Chapter 11

Hold my Heart

Author's note and disclaimer: I am overjoyed at everyone's emotions towards the last chapter. I also cried while writing it so I get where everyone is coming from. I don't know if this story will have a happy ending or not, it just depends on how I'm feeling. I'll try to keep everything up beat for a while. I don't own Gundam Wing

Staying in bed wasn't as hard as Himeno thought it would be. The medication she was on made her tired 24/7, so sleeping really wasn't all that difficult. Wufei was sweet towards her every day, he would make her breakfast in bed and they'd watch the morning news. At lunch he would carry her outside onto the porch, she would pout the entire way—feeling like a child. Sometimes the others would be there, already laughing about something that happened in the office. Once a week their physician would stop by and check on Himeno's physical health. Wufei arranged for a therapist to talk to Himeno twice a week and of course his wife wasn't happy about that. She was so used to keep everything bottled up, to an extent. If she got drunk everything would spill out, like word vomit.

It was when they were sleeping that was difficult. The soft whimpers emitting from Himeno would stir Wufei awake, taking him back several years ago when she was raped and refused to deal with it head on. Luckily, Wufei already knew what to do in these types of situation. He knew Himeno had a secret passion for music. Stretching out of bed, he quietly made his way to her side and dug out her iPod and headphones. He smiled at the memory of Duo stealing this device and adding a happy playlist to her already impressive list. It mainly consisted of instrumental pieces, upbeat and calming—and a mix of artists like Josh Groban, Gabrielle Aplin and Sara Bareilles singing her back to sleep. Wufei would cradle her body close to his, listening in on the concert with the other earbud.

Those were the mornings where they would sleep in. The light breeze wafting over them as their legs intertwined with each other. The sunlight would wake Wufei, he wouldn't get up, however. He would lay there with Himeno still sound asleep—no trace of the nightmare on her face. After minutes of staring down at her, tracing every eyelash, counting all of the fading freckles and noting how her cheekbones were beginning to show again. She didn't show much during her pregnancy, yes her belly and breasts grew, but not as big as Wufei thought they would. Her face showed it well. She thought she looked like a pumpkin, he would joke that she was cute pumpkin and in return she would throw something at him.

Pain pinched at his heart. He wondered if their daughter would have had her mother's fiery temper. And continued to question his patience of having two lose cannons living with him. Kissing Himeno's fore head, Wufei crawled out of bed and went through his routine.

He decided to spoil Himeno and made chocolate chip waffles instead of the usual, and extremely, healthy breakfast he made. As much as he wanted her to be healthy, he knew from time to time that if Himeno didn't get her sugar intact she would grow to become extremely irritable.

Wufei opened the door to find that Himeno was already awake. He smiled meekly and presented her with the food. She brightly smiled up at him and thanked him. While Wufei showered she glanced over at her phone and flipped towards the calendar. Today marked the ending of the three weeks of bed rest and she couldn't be happier. Sitting there day in and day out was starting to make her lazy, she felt. And as soon as Wufei stepped out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist she let him knew right away.

"I can finally get out of bed." Himeno stated eating her waffles happily.

"Are you ready for it?" It was a rhetorical question, Wufei knew this, but his wife still gave him are-you-serious glare. "Doctor Kamiya thinks you're ready also. How about we go into town today to see her. Get out of the house before we set a flame."

Cabin fever was their nemesis; the two pilots were used to being out and about all the time. Himeno didn't know if she was ready to venture out into public, not with children running everywhere. It was just another reminder of something that they had lost.

In her train of thought she had lost sight of Wufei, but felt his presence sitting next to her. His hand clutched hers, swirling small circles over her fingers. "You can take things as slow as you want to Himeno."

Himeno set her fork down gently and sighed deeply, she looked embarrassed and guilty all at the same time. "I'm scared, Wufei. I'm afraid that I'll start crying if I see a kid running around or freak out if a baby starts crying. I don't think I can keep myself composed around anyone."

Wufei was shocked, his eyebrows raised and eyes widened. He never heard Himeno speak of fear, not in this way. Unlike the other times, she actually meant it. In the past, during the war, she spoke of fear out of anger and frustration. These past few therapy sessions must have been a huge eye opener for her to be admitting these emotions. The Chinese pilot scooted closer, cupping Himeno's face and brought their lips together for a light kiss—lingering in the moment with their foreheads together.

While Wufei dressed, Himeno decided that it would be best for her to get out of bed and out of the house. She remembered everything she had learned while she was away for those few years before joining the Preventers. The exercises she put her body and mind through. To only think of this as another challenge presented by life and find the strength to hurdle over it like everything else. But this time she wouldn't be alone. Himeno had Wufei to help her and she would help in return. Himeno knew he was suffering just as much as she was—so she knew that he needed help as much as she did.

With new found determination, Himeno swung her legs over the bed and flattened them against shaggy carpet. Wufei pretended that he wasn't watching, but he remained alert just in case she needed help to the bathroom. The Nataku pilot couldn't help but proudly smirk when she made it to the room of grooming on her own. He asked what clothes she wanted laid out, she yelled pants loudly from the closed the door.

Wufei went to his phone after hearing the shower turn on. He took a quick picture of the clothes he laid out for Himeno to wear and sent out a quick text to their friends.

Bed written no more. The Princess of Victory is on the move.

Author's note: Not as uplifting as I wanted it to be, but its only the beginning. Please leave reviews! Oh BTW the first part of Himeno's name, Hime, means Princess in Japanese.
