Disclaimer: -silent tears- If I owned Warriors and/or Teen Titans, I would probably die of a heart attack, but I would die happily. Too bad that won't happen…. The owning thing, not the dying part, of course.
Rise of the Titan Warriors
Chapter 5: New names
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join here beneath the highrock for a clan meeting!"
Robin looked up from his teammate's huddle as a familiar cat came into view. He watched carefully as cats from around the camp began gathering under Oakstar's den. He waited a moment while his teammates waited for his word. Soon enough, a new cat approached them.
A white cat with black splotches made her way over to the Titans. Her eyes were a bit cloudy, and her pelt was a bit ruffled, but she walked over strongly. He heard Raven give a little hiss of annoyance just as he noticed a pale tabby tom, about their age by the looks of it, padding behind the she-cat. "My name is Halfpelt, and this is my apprentice Beechpaw. Oakstar asked me to tell you five to wait at the bottom of the highrock." She paused then continued, "Listen to what he says, and don't call attention to yourselves. You're causing enough turmoil as it is." With a curt nod, she turned away.
Beechpaw opened his muzzle, but was slapped on the head by Halfpelt's tail. He blinked his eyes and scuffed the ground before turning away and padding after his mentor.
Beast Boy laughed a little when the tabby tom looked back to glare at him. He quickly shut his muzzle and looked towards Robin.
"I guess we better listen to what she says…" Robin murmured.
The five made their ways over to the group of cats and looked around confusedly. "Over here!" They simultaneously looked over to Silverpaw, who gestured for them to sit where she currently was.
After everyone was settled, Oakstar began to speak. "As you may have noticed, five cats came yesterday with an unknown mission. I have decided that they may stay here as apprentices and train to become warriors of Thunderclan." The clan immediately disrupted into growls and protests, but were cut off by a wave of Oakstar's tail. "I know what you may be thinking, but we need the apprentices. These cats may provide Thunderclan with new strength for this upcoming Leaf-bare. I have already made my decisions, but before they receive new names, I have another announcement."
He turned his head to the apprentice that had first pinned Raven. "Petalpaw, you have not completed your assessment, but without hesitation, you stood up to strangers in our territory to try and stop what may have been a threat. Although you could have been outnumbered, it was a very brave act. Petalpaw, come here to receive your warrior name."
Petalpaw's eyes widened with excitement and with a proud nudge from Rubywing, she bounded up to Oakstar with shining eyes.
Oakstar looked at the sky and began to speak ancient words, "I, Oakstar, leader of Thunderclan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. She has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend her to you in her turn," he paused to look at Petalpaw,"Petalpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your clan, even at the cost of your life?"
Petalpaw didn't hesitate as she mewed loudly, "I do!"
Oakstar purred and went on, "Then by the powers of Starclan, I give you your warrior name. Petalpaw, from this moment on you will be known as Petalleap. Starclan honors your bravery and loyalty, and we welcome you as a full member of Thunderclan." With that, Oakstar touched his nose to Petalleap's head as she licked his shoulder respectfully. The clan lifted their muzzles and cheered, "Petalleap! Petalleap!"
Robin has watched the entire thing carefully. These cats are more similar to us then we realized. He smiled as Petalpaw puffed out her chest before lifting his own muzzle and joining in. The other Titans looked a bit surprised, but after a moment, followed suit.
After the clan's cheers died down, and Petalleap went to sit down equally besides her clanmates, Oakstar continued the announcement. "We are proud of you Petalleap, and tonight, you will sit vigil and guard the camp." Oakstar turned his head towards the Titans. "Now it is time, you have received your apprentice names. Please, come here."
The superheroes got up and padded towards Oakstar. They stopped a few paces away and waited for Oakstar's command. Oakstar didn't hesitate as he mewed, "You five were sent here on an unknown mission by an unknown source. Starclan may have sent you here for a purpose, and we hope you make Thunderclan stronger. Robin, step forward."
Robin responded immediately by stepping up to his new leader. It seemed strange to him, not being leader of his group. He certainly hoped the Titans wouldn't think of it as a chance to not listen to him. Though, he mused, it probably will.
He was snapped out of his thoughts as Oakstar continued, "By the looks of it, you are older than six moons, but you will still go through with complete training. Until this cat has earned his warrior name, he will known as Robinpaw." Robin, no Robinpaw, was surprised at the pride he felt. Oakstar then smiled, "And until you receive your warrior name, I will be your mentor, and I know you will not disappoint me."
Robinpaw perked up, not expecting that, as Oakstar leaned in to touch noses with Robinpaw. The apprentice complied and went back to sit with his teammates.
Oakstar then called forward Cyborg, then Starfire, then Beast Boy. Cyborg had become Stonepaw, and was now sitting beside a proud-looking Cedarflight.
Starfire was purring loudly as Sunpaw now while she practically bounced by Stormheart, who looked amused at his apprentice's enthusiasm.
Beast Boy was now sitting smugly as Treepaw beside a pretty looking she-cat named Ambercloud, who had been excited to receive her first apprentice.
Now, all that was left was Raven. "Raven, please come here." Raven silently made her way to Oakstar, looking around warily. Oakstar narrowed his eyes in the slightest, but brightened up and repeated the ceremony. "Raven, from this moment on until you have received your warrior name, you will be known as Ravenpaw. Raggedears will be your mentor." Ravenpaw's fur bristled a bit, but she leaned in to touch noses with Oakstar. She then turned to look at Raggedears as Oakstar said, "Raggedears, you are a strong and brave warrior and I know you will pass on everything you know to Ravenpaw."
Raggedears' face looked blank as he and Ravenpaw padded over to one another. The Titans were silent throughout this as the clan cheered all of their names; they knew how Ravenpaw was suspicious of Raggedears since the very first moment they met the clan cats.
Cedarflight cleared his throat to try and break the silence. "Why don't you all follow Beechpaw and find yourselves a nest. Then in the morning we can begin to explore the territory."
The other mentors nodded in agreement and dismissed the new apprentices. Treepaw began to chatter excitedly, "Can you believe this!? Just a day ago we were sucked into this freaky place and now we're going to train to be warriors!? This is so cool! I hope we get to train soon. What do you think we'll be doing? If we're fighting, then we'll be naturals! I wond-"
He was cut off as Stonepaw grabbed him and put his big paw over Treepaw's mouth. "Well we won't be able to find out if you talk us to death!" Stonepaw's eyes held excitement too, though, as they searched for Beechpaw.
Sunpaw and Ravenpaw walked side by side behind the three toms. "My mentor, Stormheart, seems like a kind cat! I am very excited to partake in this interesting lifestyle; what do you think, friend Ravenpaw?"
Ravenpaw had been silent since before the ceremony, but now she spoke again. "These cats seem kind enough, although I still don't exactly trust them… I'm surprised you can call me by a new name, though."
Sunpaw looked confused and said, "Well since we were given these names by the ancestors, I suppose we should uphold them."
Ravenpaw thought carefully about her words and nodded, but still looked skeptical. "I know they obviously follow this Starclan with much passion, but how are we to know they actually exist? It seems like their religion, of course, but have they actually seen their own ancestors? Especially the medicine cat?"
Sunpaw smiled, "Maybe, maybe not, but they may have more similarities to us than you realize."
Ravenpaw was about to reply, but realized the five had reached a den. She hadn't even noticed that they had found Beechpaw. Ravenpaw was last to enter the den, and she took one last sweep of the camp. The entire clan was retreating to their dens, and she saw Petalleap walk towards the entrance to guard the camp. Ravenpaw began to turn back when she noticed Raggedears' blue eyes on her. She stared back for a moment before Raggedears turned away, and Ravenpaw entered the den.
She watched as her clanmates began to gather moss and prepare dens. They looked funny as Beechpaw tried to show them how to properly make one, and ended with a groan. The black she-cat's violet eyes gleamed with amusement before she, too, prepared her nest. Do the others realize that we may literally be stuck here for a lifetime? Will they be able to handle it? Of course, they can handle it… but lifetime means it ends in death. If we stay here, does that mean we will all eventually die? I hope we can finish our purpose soon, without any death, and just go home…
