Chapter 6
Their Butler's, In London
-Raven-
"YOU WHAT?!" I screamed at the top of my lungs my voice ringing through our pretty much empty mansion as I stood before my sister out raged and eye twitching. "I said I told Ciel well be accompanying him on his trip to England- He has a case there and her majesty wants to meet us. Now I don't know about you but I don't want to be disrespectful and not show up at the invite for afternoon tea with her majesty," she said with very small amount of emotion. Honestly I can't believe my sister actually believed his story. No matter how authentic that letter looked it still could have been a very believable fake, I mean it's not hard to fake a family seal royal or not. I've done it a million times.
I groaned annoyed as I scratched at my head furiously- I felt like I was the last person to know about this because I could see Demetri grin as he reached out and set down a tea cup in front of my sister before pouring her some freshly made morning tea.
"Melody- I can't believe you honestly said we'd attend. Why didn't you talk to me first?"
"Because I know you Raven, You aren't exactly a reliable second party when it comes to something like this which was why I agreed to going with him to London with him today. Oh and you will apology for rushing out of his party a few days ago." She informed me my mouth dropped to the ground as I stood there staring at her. To think I just came in to let her know I was going to go into town with Lucian to pick a few items and be bombarded with such heinous news.
"I knew I shouldn't have told Lucian that if I ever see him again it'll be too soon," I grumbled under my breath, "I just completely jinxed myself- why does the world hate me?" I blurted out by accident as I drowned in my own remorse and regret. "The world isn't against you Raven- I am this time and before you think you can get out of it I've made full well that Lucian, Demetri and the other servants keep a close eye on you so you don't do something stupid to try and get out of it."
Lovely- my sister has me on mansion suicide watch, well guess this is what I get. Damn Karma.
I groaned annoyed before I faced my sister. "Fine I'll go but don't think I'll be saying a word to anyone though," I said before I turned and left the room angrily and slammed the door behind me shut and stomped my way down the hall. If only she knew what really happened that night at the Phantomhive manor with me-then I'm sure she'd changed her mind. But I wasn't actually a willing party to blurt out and say 'oh by the way melody, Ciel's butler kissed me."
Wow just the way I said it in my mind there I don't think I'd even believe it. Oh well guess ill be the good girl my parents always wanted me to be and swallow my pride and attend.
Continuing on down the hall I saw Lucian emerge from a room dressed in the nice suit I had asked our tailor to make for him and ran over smiling. "Wow that turned out better than I had expected it to!" I practically screamed as I hugged Lucian tightly, "You look like a normal butler now." Lucian's eyes wandered over to me as he straightened his tie and gave me a twisted smile as if he felt funny dressed the way he was.
"You really think so Lady Raven?"
"Of course, why would I lie to you? You're my butler- Ill treat you with respect as long as you treat me with respect." I chimed gleefully, I hope he doesn't notice that I only act this way when I'm extremely sleepy, I thought smiling up at him. Lucian returned the smile.
"Why thank you Lady Raven- so have you've decided on what you're going to wear to the to the Phantomhive manor?" I looked at him. "Damn," I mumbled knowing full well my sister had got to him before I did.
"No- not yet, but knowing my sister she wants me to look respectable so we don't come off as cheap wannabe nobles."
"Oh? Well I'm sure we can pull something together for you. Shall we go take a look at your wardrobe?" I blinked staring up at him like an idiot before smirking trying to stifle my laughter. 'Has he not seen my wardrobe?' I wondered before clearing my throat. "Sure- I'd love to see what you would throw together for me." I answered grabbing a hold of his arm and pulled him in the direction of my room. Once there I pulled him inside and ran over to my closet throwing open the doors to find a whole new wardrobe inside. Everything clean- unscaved, untorn, unstained inside and no boy clothes in sight. My eye twitched as I watched Lucian look through my clothes to find something nice for me to wear.
-Demetri-
"Mind telling me what happened to the tea set I had just washed and put out on the counter to dry you three?" I growled aggravated as I stared at the three servants in complete and utter anger. Jazz and Mika hide behind Nick.
"We didn't do it Mr. Demetri- It was all Nick."
"Yea- we tried to stop him, honest, but he kept saying that he could remove the cloth from underneath the dishes without them moving."
"I could- I've practiced it a few times before and did it with no problems. It's not my fault that tea set was so fragile. "They each answered individually everyone but nick sounding frantic and afraid of what their punishment was. "Is that so? Well then aren't you lucky that the tea set you broke wasn't lady melody's favorite and most prized possession in the world. Cause if it was you wouldn't only have me to deal with but her as well." I said in a threatening tone as nick shrugged carelessly.
"Eh- like it matters much to me. What punishment could she give me that you haven't already put me through?"
"She could fire you, or have you mamed or worse. Now for your punishment," I said as I began to contemplate what I should do to teach the three a lesson in being careful. "Ah- I've got it," I answered with a grin and my eyes sparkled cunningly before I dragged them up the stairs and placed nine buckets filled with water in front of them. They stared at me confused.
"What's those for Mr. Demetri?"
"I'm glad you asked Mika- You three will be standing here arms outstretched holding two buckets filled to the top with water and try to balance a third on your head. "
"The three of us sir?! But why the three of us?"
"Simple really- you didn't try hard enough to keep Nicholas from being an idiot and breaking a perfectly fine tea set so you are as much to blame as he is, now then please position yourself." I said as calmly as I possibly could with an uninviting but devious smile etched on to my face. Gulping in fear the servants lined up one by one in a row and prepared themselves for their punishment. Once I was finished setting them up I went off on my way to see how my mistress was doing only to be stopped by a loud ear shattering scream. –heh, guess she found her new wardrobe- I thought smirking to myself and continued on my way up to my mistresses study as if I had heard nothing.
-Raven-
"DEMETRI!" I screamed as loud as I could before jolting out of my room and searched through the mansion for the monster that calls himself a demon. "DEMETRI VETIS!" I screeched at the top of my lungs as I busted through my sister's study doors once again where Demetri stood at her side. "WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS DEMETRI? WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL MY OLD CLOTHES?" I continued to scream as I stormed over to him and glared. I knew I shouldn't have been doing this seeing as he was a demon and I was a human but I was furious and when I get furious I go on a bloody rampage.
"Your clothes? I don't know what you are talking about lady Raven?"
"Liar! You changed out my old clothes with new ones, why?"
"Because I told him to-"
"What?!" I wined looking at my sister in surprise, "But why?"
"Because your old ones were all ruined and now that we are partners with Ciel I thought it best you look nice from here on out in case he comes by to visit with guests,"
"But that's stupid melody- Have you've seen him? He doesn't even look like he goes outside to get sun- why would he come visit? The only one who'll probably visit is us visiting him."
"You have room to speak raven, you look worse than he does; Either way I thought it was time you needed new clothes, so if you want anyone to yell at you can yell at me for it." I groaned in utter distress scratching furiously at my head again. I can never get as break here, can I? Sometimes I wished I had been born a boy, or at least into a family in the lower part of the social ladder. Staring at my sister long and hard I came to terms with the fact that I wouldn't be able to fight against her wishes seeing as we were both the head of the family company she got put first because she was the one who went to all the company meetings while I stayed to the background of things.
After the situations I went through there was a reason I wanted to stay hidden from the public eye. Letting my head fall in regret I sighed. "Fine you win this time but next time-" I started to say before Demetri interrupted while looking at the time on his pocket watch.
"Oh dear, look at the time Milady if we plan to make it to the earl Phantomhives before they head out for London we best get on our way or we'll be late,"
"Oh? Alright then," My sister answered as she finished her tea and set it down on the silver platter Demetri was caring, "Demetri please hurry and pull the carriage around and Raven I beg of you please put on one of the dresses in your closet. I don't ask for much and this meeting really means a lot to me." She gave me a sympathetic look before turning it into her signature puppy eyes. Clenching my hands tightly I huffed turning away, "Fine," Was all I said before I stomped out of the room and back to my room where Lucian was waiting with a beautiful light purple and white dress. Oh did I know I would regret this day.
-A few hours later-
After a few hours of riding with my sister and her butler in a small cramped carriage I hurried out as soon as we stopped and graveled at the ground. "SALVATION! THANK YOU GOD!" I dramatically screamed to the sky as the earl and his butler walked towards us and looked down at me like I was insane. My eyes panned upwards at them and sweat dropped. "Ah- Hello there," Was all that spilt from my mouth before I got up and brushed off my dress.
"Surely your travels weren't that bad,"
"Maybe it wouldn't be for you but I don't exactly like sitting in one place with my sister's butler for long hours. Especially a small compact area. He isn't exactly great company."
"IS that so?"
"Yes-"
"Hello Earl Phantomhive, I apologize for us coming late my sister was being rather picky on what she was going to wear to this gathering." Melody chimed in before I could finish my sentence and motioned to the attire I had picked out. I don't see what she was complaining about, atleast I was wearing a dress, and it was one of the many dresses she had Demetri replace my old clothes with a few alterations if I must say so myself. But altogether it turned out rather nicely. I could feel as Ciel and Sebastian eye my clothes before returning their attention to my sister.
"its fine, you made it just in time actually we were just about to leave."
"Oh is that so? Well Its good to hear we've made it in time," She answered ever so respectfully I tsk under my breath and rolled my eyes crossing my arms and turned away with a slight huff. Wasn't the Earl engaged to another? Why were those two acting so friendly with one another? I mean if he wasn't engaged to another I knew for a fact my sister was so neither had no place to be so friendly. I stood there watching as the two started off inside talking up a storm. I had no idea what their conversation was because I wasn't close enough to hear em but I mouthed blah blah blah until they were behind doors. Nice to know I was a third wheel.
"Is everything alright Milady?" Lucian chimed worriedly as I glanced up at him. "Yea, I'm fine let's just get going," I said bluntly as I stormed off inside the Phantomhive mansion with Lucian in toe.
After a few minutes of talking in the Phantomhive mansion we made our way out to the carriage and entered starting on our way to London for tea with the queen. As we traveled the long road Melody and Ciel talked up a storm and I sitting there ever so quietly staring out the nearest window boredly thinking of random things that came to my mind. You can't really blame me though- when you're trapped in a moving carriage with two people talking you get rather aggravated, especially when you were up the night before running for your life from the two people you traveled with. Kind of funny neither of them had figured out I was the infamous thief "Ace." What a fun game we had been playing for the past three years.
I giggled at the thought before having my thoughts interrupted. "Raven you've been quiet this whole ride, is something the matter?" my eyes wandered over to Ciel and my sister who both stared at me. "Forgive me if I'm not in such a talkative mood like you two," I chimed turning my attention back to the carriage window and sighed watching as the beautiful scenery passed by. I could see Ciel smirk from the corner of my eyes.
"Well I feel rude I haven't brought you into our conversations. you're just as much important as your sister is."
"Funny- that's not what everyone else says," I grumbled under my breath, "Really it's fine- Im use to being the ghost in the room," I commented in a rude tone still keeping my eyes on the moving scenery. "Really? Well I disagree- I'd love to get to know you as well," he said as I turned my attention to him and stared him down. He still had that stupid smirk etched on his face. "Please don't pretend like you care about me. You and I both know you don't and to be truthful I don't care much to get to know you. It isn't like you'll remember anything I tell you anyways." My sister's eyes widen in shock as her mouth fell in disbelief.
"RAVEN!"
"What?! I'm only telling the truth- you can't tell me he gives a care about anyone else but himself? Its human nature."
"I don't care if it is human nature to lie or not- you need to be respectful. He is a noble."
"So- we are to. In fact we're the daughters of a duke and duchess, and he's just a petty Earl. If anything he should answer to us."
"RAVEN STOP SAYING THINGS LIKE THAT! ITS NOT NICE- YOU WERE BROUGHT UP BETTER THAN THAT."
"No- actually I wasn't. Mom and dad never babied me like they did you." I said to my sister bluntly as I watched her face turn red. Across from her Ciel sat there watching surprised like this was the first time he had seen someone be blunt about the truth infront of him. Is it bad that I didn't care I was upsetting my sister by how I spoke right this minuet? "Mom and dad never babied me! They treated me the same way they treated you." I shook my had, "You must have been dreaming then- cause I remember them always taking you with them to parties and other little things while I got stuck home with Demetri and the servants because of my heart problems."
I watched as Melody went to open her mouth but then shut it again and looked down at the carriage floor sadly letting me know full well that she was getting where I was coming from. I could feel Ciel eye the two of us curiously before he went to open his mouth. "What are the two of you talking about? Surely Your parents didn't treat the two of you any differently. You are sisters- let alone twins," he chimed rather bluntly blinking continuously as he spoke. I smirked and let out a rather silent chuckle as I sat there my arm rested on the seal of the window before I turned my attention towards him. The usual look of a child playing a game they had set before them who had already had the winning move set out in their minds before the game had even started which Ciel wore most all of the time was now plastered on to my face.
"You sure don't know my family, do you?" I question Ciel as our eyes fell on to each other and all went silent. "Our family are nobles, yes, that will never change. And yes, nobles must treat all their children the same way, but our family is rather different from that of a normal noble family. The Valentines have always been the odd ball out for they are the only noble family who have had twins born each generation. One was always the stronger of the two and the other weaker. A curse placed upon them because of their ancestor who was said to have made a contract to a demon. Ledgan states that somewhere down the line the ancestor had promised a set of twins somewhere down the family line to belong to him. These twins will be known as the evil king or queen and their servant of evil. And these twins will be set to play their roles the servant obediently tending to their masters wishes till the end of their time together and so each generation was said to be treated differently. The only problem with this was that one, no one knew which generation would be that set of twins except for the demon who had been promised them and two our father never had a twin like others in our family. Long story short our family had treated all sets of twins differently than the others which was why Melody was allowed to go out and about with our parents and I had to stay home." I watched as Ciel's stared at me in surprise and his eyes began to twitch at the old tale Demetri had told to us when we were younger. Melody reached out and smacked me in the arm.
"Raven that's not nice to say! You know that's an old wise tale our butler use to tell us to scare us in to being good girls," I busted out into laughter as the carriage finally pulled to a stop.
"Sorry Melody, It just seemed like the perfect time to scare Ciel, and boy was it worth it." Ciel let out a deep sigh letting his head fall before the carriage door opened to show all three butlers outside waiting for us. "Is everything alright in here my lord and ladies? I thought I heard some arguing in the cab while I was driving," Sebastian sounded sincere even though I knew otherwise before he helped Ciel out of the carriage. "It was nothing, Raven was just entertaining us with a story. If I might say so myself she has quiet the imagination," Ciel answered as Demetri helped melody out and I jumped right out afterwards grinning the biggest grin I had ever grinned. "Why thank you my dearest Earl Phantomhive. You start to gather a sense of adventure and imagination when you're locked up in a empty mansion alone," I replied happily as I jumped in the hair and looked over the motley crew. Two demons, a reaper, a boy and a set of twins. It was obviously we all stuck out like a sore thumb. Spinning away from the others I ran forward about raising my arms above my head stretching. Good ol' jolly London- it's been years since I had stepped foot in this city and boy had it changed since I was a young child
