A/N:
Oh hey peoples... Guess what? I'M ALIVE! *cough cough* erm sorry about that... And the seven months or so wait... But good news is I updated? And wow literally one off 1k followers? That is firstly awesome and secondly really annoying (soooo anyone want to randomly follow?) But I just want to thank you all for sticking with me and all that baloney! Also I know this is really short and that's because I've been suffering from writer's block but I assure you I haven't given up on this! SO just consider this a filler?
P.S: if there happens to be a "Danny is cool" in here please tell me? I've deleted all the ones that I could see but she's a crafty little lemon (inside joke) AND without further ado, onto the story!

Chapter Four

The first thing Harry saw was the Stark tower standing prominent against the skyline, the second thing was the blue column of light piercing vertically up from the tower and the third thing he saw was the gaping wormhole in the middle of the sky, spewing forth an army of aliens. Harry heard Natasha conversing with Stark over the intercom but didn't pay them any mind. The Tesseract was permeating the air with its energy, but what was worse was that it seemed to have locked on to the jet. The deeper into the city they went, the more perceptible the Tesseract was, following him through the streets and passed buildings. Somehow, the Tesseract had gotten stronger or at least bolder because it was seeping into the jet and aiming for the others. Harry wrapped his magic around Barton's mind first, seeing as it was the most vulnerable, then Natasha's and Rogers.

Leave!

Such a simple word yet it seemed to be the main thing the Tesseract responded to, since the opposing power stopped. It would seem Harry's gained a reputation with the Tesseract.

Do not touch! Mine! Leave what is mine!

He really felt like a kid speaking like that but Harry had the strangest feeling that speaking more comprehensively would confuse the Tesseract. Amazingly, the Tesseract retreated from the jet and he felt a subtle shift in the Tesseract's attention. No longer on all of the occupants within the jet but just him. Isn't that just peachy?

"Argh!" Harry zoned back into the situation which was now of the jet falling down.

"What the bloody Hell happened?" He asked Rogers.

"Loki blasted us with the sceptre, how did you not see?" He replied.

"Er, I was preoccupied."

"With what?" Keeping your mind yours if you must know, Danny is cooler than you lolin, Harry thought, still with half his concentration on enveloping the others with his magic. He was saved from answering by the jet crashing into the ground and coming to an abrupt halt. Without waiting for anyone else, Rogers exited the craft and ran into the fray. Harry followed along, with Natasha and Barton. They slowed down and stared at the wormhole. Harry openly gawked when a gargantuan leviathan-like creature swam, swam out of the wormhole and into the sky. As the leviathan descended and travelled over their heads, more of the Chitauri were loosed from hidden pockets within its armour.

"Stark are you seeing this?" Rogers exclaimed. He listened then asked, "Banner?" That seemed to be the end of the conversation because Rogers dived behind a taxi and the rest of them followed quite happily. Harry took that moment to slowly release his hold on the Captain's mind, ready to shield it straight away if the Tesseract pounced. But it didn't, instead, it brushed up against his own magic and Harry knew that it wouldn't touch the Avengers, or whoever he labelled 'his'. Now isn't that interesting? He hesitantly pulled his magic back within himself and held his breath. The minds of Barton, Rogers and Natasha free of all protection. Safe. The Tesseract held back from them and Harry released his breath.

"We've got civilians trapped in the-" Barton was cut off as a pod of the Chitauri flew above them and shot at anyone that moved, destroying cars and scattering the already screaming people.

"They're fish in a barrel down there." They were interrupted as a group of Chitauri fired at their position, Natasha stood up and fired right back before crouching down again and telling Rogers, "We got this, it's good, go." Rogers looked to Barton and asked, "Think you can hold them off?"

"Captain, it'd be my genuine pleasure." Barton's answer was reinforced by him whipping around and shooting an arrow directly into an approaching Chitauri's eye. Rogers then looked to Harry who was really at a loss for what to do. Having grown used to being the one giving orders and knowing what the situation called for. Letting someone else be in charge was really quite refreshing though, and it was something Harry found himself to be quite enjoying.

"Harry, come with me."

DO NOT TOUCH!

Was broadcasted loud and clear before Harry stood up. Then they were both off, vaulting over the edge of the bridge and landing expertly on the bus, running again and leaping off said bus as its rear end was lifted into the air; rolling whilst coming into contact with the ground and running yet again. Harry felt adrenaline burning through his veins as he kept up easily with Rogers, the ringing of battle thumping in his ears was both familiar and different. There were no castings of spells, nor were there flashes of different colours. There was screaming though, pathways exploding, buildings being caught in the line of fire as people were crying and huddling behind any available cover. They all stared with wide eyes as Harry and Rogers sprinted past them. Some with curiosity, some with accusation, and all with terror. Harry looked away, this was not the time. First, he had to help Rogers, do as he was told, follow the orders. He wasn't in charge here, the fight wasn't about him. There was no him and Voldemort. No, there was Loki and the Avengers.

Gunfire brought Harry out of his thoughts, directly ahead of them was a barricade of police cars and policemen. Rogers landed on the hood of one of the police cars and was instantly shown the inside of two gun's barrels. Déjà vu seemed very fitting in this situation, Harry thought.

"You need men in these buildings," Rogers started, pointing to said buildings and ignoring the guns aimed at him. "There are people inside, and they're going to be running right into the line of fire. You take them through the basement, or through the subway, you keep them off the streets. I need a perimeter as far back as 39th." He finished.

"Why the Hell should I take orders from you?" The man Harry dubbed as the one in charge demanded. Almost as if orchestrated beforehand, four Chitauri attacked Rogers and the Captain counter-attacked all of the Chitauri single-handedly.

"I need men in those buildings, lead the people down, and away from the streets. We're going to set up a perimeter all the way down to 39th street." Was instructed by the police officer as he walked away.

"Nicely done." Harry commented as Rogers stepped off the car.

"Thanks." Rogers assessed the situation in front of him and adjusted his shield.

"You know, I have the feeling that I'm really not needed here." Rogers gave him an incredulous look.

"What makes you say that?"

"Well, you appear to have everything under control and I'm just following along like a groupie."

"Groupie?"

"Yeah, you know, people who hover after someone famous, hoping to become a part of their inner circle so they can brag about it to their other friends-" Harry stopped suddenly and darted behind Rogers, quickly firing a sectumsempra at the alien creeping up from behind an upside down SUV. Harry dodged to the left and twisted around, firing two more spells at the aliens re-aiming. Both went down soundlessly and Harry levitated an abandoned taxi and smashed it into the three remaining Chitauri.

"-And they could even do the whole name-drop thing, like, "I know Captain America! He looked straight at me and said "Hello"! He talked to me!" You getting what a groupie is?" Harry finished returning his attention to Rogers who was non-too discreetly staring at him with his mouth quite literally open.

"What?" Harry asked, walking back over to the Captain and loosening his grip on the Elder Wand.

"Just following? Really?" Harry looked over his shoulder to the five – six – now either dead or wounded aliens on the ground. He opened his mouth to reply but nothing came out, he really didn't have a comeback to that.

"Let's get back to Natasha and Barton, I'm sure they might want some help." He said, changing the topic. Rogers shook his head but nodded and they were both off, Harry occasionally casting spells at the Chitauri that got a little too close.

Leaping straight into the action, Harry took out an alien that was about to shoot Natasha and landed beside her in a crouch. Spinning around he paused as the remaining Chitauri were electrocuted by lightning. Thor crashed more than landed and leaned onto an overturned car for support.

"What's the story upstairs?" Rogers asked.

"The power surrounding the cube is impenetrable." Thor supplied.

"How do we do this?" Natasha inquired.

"As a team," Rogers answered.

"I have unfinished business with Loki," Thor reminded.

"Yeah? Well get in line," Barton said, fiddling with the head of an arrow.

"Save it, Loki's gonna keep this fight focused on us, and that's what we need. Without him these things could run wild, we get Stark up top, he's gonna need us to-" Rogers trailed off as the sound of a motorbike drew closer. Turning around revealed Dr Banner on said motorcycle looking quite determined. He parked the motorbike in the middle of the destroyed road and got off, when he was about a meter away he said, "So, this all seems, horrible."

"I've seen worse." Natasha commented.

"Sorry," Banner apologised,

"No, we could use a little worse," Natasha stated with a smirk about her lips. Banner then turned to Harry, "How are you still standing? Not that I'm glad, but, the Other guy hit you really hard." Harry shrugged and leaned against one of the many strewn about cars, "It was nothing Dr Banner, just a tap, that's all."

"Just a tap? You were punched into a wall five meters away from your original position. That is not just a 'tap'." He reprimanded.

"Relax, Dr Banner, as you can see, I am fully functional with no broken bones or sprains."

"Or scratches, or bruises, or-" Natasha was cut off by Harry's hand clamped over her mouth.

"Yes, well, since we've agreed that I'm fine, let's get back to business shall we? Captain, I recall Stark mentioning Dr Banner?"

"Yes," Rogers seemed to come out of daze, "Stark? We got him." A pause, "Just like you said," Harry really should've gotten one of those earpiece thingies.
