Rosa was a mess. An emotional mess. She was torn between ripping her ex-husband's throat out, worrying about Dan and whether she should save him, and thinking about her relationship with Horatio. She nearly laughed at the absurdity of it all. If anyone had told her a month ago that she would discover her son was alive, fall in love with one of her greatest enemies, be reunited with one of her best friends and be on good terms with the Mastermind's exact clones, she would have shot them dead on the spot.

Unfortunately, she had been locked in Stella's office to prevent her from doing anything too crazy. Why Dan's dad had turned up at all was a mystery to her. Looking back she supposed that she shouldn't have reacted. Adam hadn't even glanced in her direction-that was what set her off, though. It had been oddly satisfying to see his eyes widen in surprise as he realised who it was.

And then, a horrible thought struck her. Maybe he wasn't looking for Rosa at all. Maybe he was looking for Dan...

A timid knock at the door jerked her back to reality. "Come in," she said coldly. Briefly, she felt like the Crime Minister again, and shuddered as a peculiar feeling came over her.

"Miss Rosa? Um... Can you help us?" asked the office junkie quietly. "We don't know what to do."

"I'll be out in a minute. Get everyone sorted and back on their jobs," she ordered.

When the girl left, Rosa took a moment to compose herself. She realised what the peculiar feeling had been.

Disgust. Disgust at what she'd done. Well, it wasn't going to happen again. She steeled herself and stepped out.

"Come on," sneered James, gun still pointed at the unconscious Keri. His voice and hand was calm, the actions of a man who knew what he was doing-and had done it many times before. Libi's blood ran cold as she took in the scene before her. Now she knew why Keri had sent her to that home. She just wasn't cut out for this.

"Listen," the boy- Dan- said, "I'm sure we can come to an agreement." His voice was laced with hints of panic. "Just put the gun down, we can talk."

"There is nothing left to talk about," interrupted the man. Libi dared not move, frightened that the sudden movement might make him pull the trigger. "I have what I need, I intend to complete my duty." She nearly held her breath.

She watched in apprehension as he moved, almost casually, towards the panel. How could he do it? Kill thousands of people?

She could tell, Dan was torn. Tom was waiting for something, being the geek she had come to like, and Zoe, her sister, would gladly die for him as well. They would all die for the good of the world. Something constricted in her chest as she realised what she was thinking. Dan turned his head slightly, a clear question.

Should I do it? The look on his face was empty, but his eyes were full of pain. It almost stopped Libi, but against her own wishes, her own morals, her own sister, she nodded a fraction.

Tom grabbed Libi and dived out of the way as Dan ran forward and slammed his foot straight into the panel. Taken by surprise, James moved out of the way, cursing as Dan chopped him in the arm. He fired the gun, but before anyone could register who was shot or hurt, science kicked in.

Because if there is one thing you never do, it's put water and francium in the same place.

Then there was nothing at all.
