Zane POV
We just got to the roof, and Crawlers, are already swarming the building. I look for a way out and see it. Roof jumping.
I sling my rifle over my back and take off running.
My foot hits the edge of the roof and I keep moving, landing on the next roof, and looking back at the others.
They all have looks on their faces that obviously think I'm crazy. Then Zara smiles and follows after me.
Soon the others are all over, and the last one over jumps just as crawlers get to the roof.
I stay as the others run. "I'm not leaving." Zara says. "Zara..." I fire my rifle dropping three crawlers with one bullet.
"I'll find you, no matter how many crawlers. I will be ok. I'm immune, I should be dead. That is the one thing I didn't tell you. I've been bitten many times. I will be fine, and I will find you. There's too many now, for us all to make it. I'll survive, I'll distract them. Just go." I say shooting more crawlers.
"Just, come with us as far we we can go. I'll die to stay with you." She says.
My gaze lifts from my rifle scope and I look at her from my kneeling position. I stand and sling my rifle.
"Then lets get moving." I say and start running across the roof. As I am running I hear a scream behind me.
I see Lilly, lying on the ground and crawlers approaching.
I pull my rifle up to fire. *Click* Empty. I drop my rifle and run at the crawlers. I tackle one, but get bitten. This bite feels different, it burns more.
I snap it's neck, and quickly kill the others. Then I help Lilly up. We start running again, and I pick my rifle back up and load it.
As we run, I look at my arm and see ooze slipping out of it.
I change my focus to something else. An armored building. Crawler proof.
I run too it, and the others follow me to it. I get the door open, and the others file in.
Then I shut it, and secure it with the bolts. We check the building and it's clear.
I find a generator and get it going. Then lights flicker on. Now I look at the bite, and it looks bad. I clean it up, but now, I feel weak, and sick.
I walk around the building and find a room. Upon entering I see it is empty, other than a bed. I lay down and close my eyes.
(Next Morning)
I am awoken to a scream and a load crash.
Slow to get up I look at the bite on my arm, but am horrified. The bite was gone, but my arm was black...
Realizing how bad this looks I find a hoodie and throw it on.
Putting my hands in the pocket I leave the room to see what was going on.
As I walk downstairs I see a crawler...
This crawler looks at me hatred thick in it's eyes.
Then I see who screamed and see Zara on the ground.
Luckily unharmed.
Looking at the crawler I notice something familiar about it.
Then it speaks.
"Miss me Zane?" He asks in a raspy voice.
In shock and fear I fumble for words.
What was there to say?
I left him die a long time ago and now... By some stroke of wicked fate, he showed up here.
"B-But h-ow? I thought you were d-dead," I sputter out.
"Oh, I thought I was too, but then, well truly I am dead, I have no pulse, but you see, I over came being a mindless crawler," He says.
Still in shock I lose my words, I feel bad for leaving him to die but he deserved it, at the time.
"Look I'm sorry for ditching you. We shouldn't have done it, but we did, now I wish we hadn't," I say.
"You knew him?" Zara yells out.
Then Garth comes over and takes her out of the room. I don't know where they all go, but I do know they left the main room.
Probably to hide from the two of us.
"You're sorry? Sorry? That's it?" He snarls out.
"What else do you want from me? You made a move on the girl I loved!" I yell
"Well where is she now?" He asks.
"I don't know and I don't care. She cheated on me. So I left her." I say.
"So you left me to die only for the two of you to hate each other not long after?" He asks in disbelief.
"Yeah, and that is a big reason I regret leaving you to die, now that I think about it, it wasn't worth it. But if it makes you feel better, I'm pretty sure I'm dying now, becoming a crawler," I say in a low tone.
"Why do you think you are dying?" He asks with a big grin on his face.
"I was bitten by a crawler, and normally it doesn't affect me, but this bite looks horrid," I say as I take my hand from my pocket and pull the sleeve up revealing the oozing and green bite mark.
His eyes widen in shock, but then he laughs.
"So the very invincible Zane might die, oh this is good," He says.
"But this time so will you Dec," I say as I jump at him and tackle him.
For a moment he is taken by surprise, then starts fighting back.
Humphrey POV
I hear the yelling of Zane and the laughs of the other wolf.
Seeing him was a shock, scary, and so much else.
We all thought we'd never see him again and now here he was, seeking revenge on Zane.
"Zane's gonna be ok fighting Dec on his own right?" I ask worried about my friend.
"I hope so, the reason we aren't helping is that this is his fight, him and Dec are enemies and we don't need to get involved, or I hope not." Garth says.
"Ok, what is going on?" Zara asks.
So we explain to her everything that happened with Dec and him being the reason Zane was covered in bite marks, what Dec did to Zane's old love, and to all of us leaving Dec to die.
"That's messed up, but it's also messed up that you just left him to die," Zara says.
"Yes, we are all aware of that, Zane more than us, he regrets leaving him to die, but it's to late to take it back, and now they are fighting, I just hope Zane wins," Garth says.
Then we heard a shout of pain. We go silent, not sure who's shout it was. Although the fight is still going, we know one of them is hurt bad.
A/N: Well there it is chapter 16. I am sorry for the wait, and I am trying to keep this one centered around the A&O characters as much as possible, but anyways, hope you enjoyed the chapter.
