Two Steps Back
Disclaimer: I'm not RIB, so I don't own Glee or any of the characters. If I did, I'd be rich and probably not writing fanfiction! This fic will dive into MPREG, so I'll be using my go-to MPREG explanation like I did in When We're Older aka the Reddin gene. The gene is based on the Reddin character from the 1994 movie Junior. You should really watch it if you like mpreg. It's a good movie, I promise (I also don't have any rights to it either!) I also don't really own anything mentioned in this except for the crazy storyline so... I OWN NOTHING. The title is inspired by a Paula Abdul song called Opposites Attract by the way.

"I'm going to miss you."
"I'm going to miss you too."
"Oh my god, you guys! You'll see each other in a few days! It's not like you can't come over to visit, Kurt!" Rachel huffed, rolling her eyes as her brother and his boyfriend said their goodbyes before Blaine and Rachel got in the car with their dads. Hiram and Leroy were already in the car, having swung by for a few minutes to thank Burt and Carole for their hospitality before they got ready to head back home. Their kids stayed back for a second, wanting to say goodbye to their significant others, but Kurt and Blaine were taking exceptionally long as neither wanted to be out of the others sight for too long. At that moment, they were wrapped around each other in front of the door, Blaine tucked against Kurt as his boyfriend held him a little tighter. They were both still wearing their pajamas, having gotten out of bed when the sound of Hiram and Leroy's talking out in the hall jarred them from their nap. Kurt was incredibly sleep mussed, multicolored hair limp and falling in front of his eyes as he nuzzled his cheek against Blaine's unruly curls. Blaine, poofy haired and tired eyed, was rumpled looking as well, tiredly leaning against his boyfriend as the two of them slowly swayed in their embrace.
"Okay. I'm pretty sure Hiram just honked the horn. You've gotta let him go, Kurt. He can call once they all get home, right Blaine?" The boy in question nodded against Kurt's shoulder and Burt rolled his eyes fondly, watching as the two reluctantly pulled away, Kurt pressing a kiss to Blaine's hair before they parted.
"Call me when you get home?"
"Okay."
"I love you."
"I love you too."
Rachel scoffed, gagging over the sappy moment and then she grabbed onto Blaine's hand, a smile spreading across her face as she bid her goodbyes to the blended family before her. Blaine also offered his thanks and then they were out the door, climbing into the SUV with their dads before they disappeared down the street and around the corner. Once they were gone, Kurt turned and went back upstairs, grunting under his breath when his dad asked him if he wanted anything to eat. He didn't care. He was missing Blaine.
He didn't want Blaine to go even though he knew his boyfriend needed to spend some time with his dads after such a difficult week in their family. Honestly though, he would've rather had Blaine stay with him, especially with as far along as the pregnant boy was. Being able to hold him, to be close to him at all times was a god send really, despite his non-belief in higher power. Watching Blaine walk out the door was painful and he never expected it to be so hard. Sure, it wasn't like they wouldn't see each other for a while, but after spending the last few days getting closer and closer, it was just difficult to lose that much desired presence at his side. Sighing, Kurt climbed back into bed and pulled the pillow Blaine slept on against his chest, inhaling the spicy scent that Blaine left behind. His cologne lingered on the fabric along with the scent of berries (from his hairgel) and if Kurt could just bottle up that smell and swim in it forever, he totally would.
When did I get so sappy? He wondered to himself, glaring at the wall before he inhaled another whiff of Blaine and closed his eyes. The lack of sleep he'd gotten over the last week caught up to him and he fell back asleep, jerking back to consciousness when his phone began jingling on his nightstand. "-'ello?"
"I'm home." Blaine yawned on the other end and Kurt smiled to himself, rolling onto his back to look at the ceiling. His free hand clenched into a fist, fingers wishing to be pressed against a warm belly to feel his child kick, but Blaine was all the way across town in his own room. It sucked.
"I miss you."
"I miss you too." The other boy breathed, a smile evident in his tone. They sat there in silence, the only noises being their soft breathing and before Kurt knew it, Blaine's breathing evened out and he could hear his boyfriend napping on the other line.
"Honey?"
"...huh?"
"You're falling asleep. I'll call you later, okay? Get some rest. I love you."
"Love you more."
Kurt hung up seconds later, shutting his eyes as he thought about having to go back to school in a few days. His holiday break went by way too fast and he really didn't want to head back to McKinley for the next few weeks until Christmas break. Just the idea of having to deal with his idiot classmates made him want to hit someone plus Sectionals was coming up and they had to prepare for that. Having to practice for their competition would cut down his Blaine time, but he knew it had to be done. So, before they got into the swing of things, he'd spend all the time he could with his boyfriend. Because Blaine was the most important part of his life right now.
::::::::::
Coming back to McKinley High following the best Thanksgiving break ever was a killer. The school smelled of clorox and gym socks, the students were bitter, and the faculty were just as annoyed to have to be back. Kurt, leaning against the chainlink fence by the skanks lair, watched as piles of students entered the building, several immediately flocking to their cliques as they began to talk about their break. Across the way stood the jocks, all of them high-fiving and laughing about something irrelevant as they blocked one of the entrances to the school. Apes, the rainbow haired boy thought to himself, puffing out a long stream of smoke as he glared at the group of guys. Karofsky, who was standing off to the side of the group, looked at him for just a second, a frown tugging at his lips before he turned back, and Kurt rolled his eyes, tired of the other guy's moping glances. It had been weeks since the incident at Scandals, weeks since Dave and Sebastian (and Blaine) caught him in a bathroom with some random dude and ever since then, fucking Karofsky kept looking at him like he wanted to say something.
He saw your dick. He probably wants to talk about it, Kurt's mind joked and he scowled, dropping his cigarette on the ground to stomp out. Once it was snubbed, he picked up the butt and tossed it in the trash, trudging his way through the crowds of people to head inside. Quinn and Puck were already at the door, talking quietly to themselves as they waited for him, and once the three of them were together, they entered the building as a group, eyes glaring at the people who always seemed to stare at them whenever they were around.
"Like what you see?" Quinn mocked at a random girl, winking before she ran a hand through her newly redone pink hair. It was darker this time, but still very Quinn, and Kurt smirked at her.
"They're probably impressed by your dye job. I know I am. Who did it?"
"You know what? I did it myself. You actually think it looks good?"
"Yeah. It looks pretty badass. You did a nice job. You should do mine."
"Oh. You want yours done again? Finally leaving behind the rainbow?"
"I haven't decided yet. Blaine mentioned something about-"
"...Blaine? Blaine as in the boy you knocked up who definitely hated your guts before Thanksgiving break Blaine?"
A tiny blush tinted Kurt's cheeks and Quinn's smile brightened. Behind her, Puck muttered something about it being fucking time. "Yeah. We... umm, spent the holiday together."
"Oh my god. Finally. I'm happy for you. Are you guys-"
"Yeah. He's my boyfriend now."
Again, Puck said something about fucking finally and the group laughed, stopping at Quinn's locker to wait for her to swap out her bag for her books. As they waited, Kurt told them about what happened over the holiday and how he and Blaine were working on everything. By the end of the story, Quinn was watching him with a soft smile and he smiled back, ducking his head when she patted his forearm. "This is all we've wanted for you, you know? For you to get your head out of your ass and be with him. I know it's been difficult and everything, but I'm glad you two are together now. You guys make a cute couple and I'm sure you'll make a pretty fucking adorable baby too."
"Thank you."
"I call dibs on being-" Puck said, dropping his voice into a terrible impression, "-the godfather."
"Oh my god, Puck. Shut up."
His mohawk styled friend slapped his shoulder as he hunched over laughing, ignoring the eye roll he was receiving from Quinn. While the three of them quietly joked to one another about Kurt's future child's godparents, the pack of athletes he saw earlier came creeping by, Azimio at the head as he led the guys through the hall. For a moment, the hulking jocks paused in front of Kurt and his friends, leering eyes watching the group before they stalked off, snickering laughter trailing behind them. Once they were gone, Kurt blew out a shaky breath, anger burning through his skin as he heard one of them make a joke about Blaine.
"Only two more weeks until Christmas break," Quinn whispered in his ear and he calmed a little, disgust still written on his face as he walked with her to their first class. Only two more weeks.
::::::::::
As it turned out, two weeks was way too long for him to deal with that shit. In fact, two days was too much too. On the second day back at school was when disaster struck and before Kurt knew it, he was being yanked off of a bloody Azimio Adams and thrown into a locker, fists flying at him in all directions.
::::::::::
"Well well well if it isn't the pride flag fag."
Rolling his eyes, Kurt shut his locker and turned towards the annoying voice that was grating his ears. Azimio stood across the hall from him, smirking as he crossed his arms over his chest. There were three other football players with him, just some random underclassmen who followed the guy around like puppies, and they were also mirroring their leader's pose, glares and all.
"The fuck you want, lardass?" He sneered, fingers twitching as he watched all of the guys around him cautiously. Azimio's face schooled into something ferocious; Kurt must've hit a nerve calling him fat. The big guy stepped forward, slamming a fist into the locker next to Kurt's face.
"Saw your boy toy at Breadstix with his faggot parents last night. What a disgusting group of people! Two queers and their lame ass kids. Gross." The athlete pushed forward, standing right in Kurt's face as he continued. "They kept talking about that nasty ass baby you two are having and I almost threw up my meal-"
"Shame. You could stand to lose a few pounds."
The fist smashed back into the locker as Azimio edged closer, breath hot and smelly on Kurt's skin. "Fuck you, you shithole licking cunt. It's bad enough I've gotta deal with your ass here at school and now I've gotta deal with whatever disgusting freak of a kid you and that flaming cocksucker decided to spawn." His words pissed Kurt off like none other and he struggled not to leap forward and choke the shit out of the guy before him.
"Fuck. You."
"Dudes should not be having kids together. It's not natural and it's sick as fuck. Do you know what you two are doing? Bringing a kid like that into the world? It's bad enough it's gonna be the spawn of two faggots. With its luck, I hope it comes out like that retard Becky Ja-"
Before the rest of his sentence finished, Kurt hauled his fist back and slammed it into his bully's face, kicking him hard in the leg before he knocked the guy down and threw himself on top of him. Several punches flew (most of them from Kurt himself) before he felt his body get lifted up and thrown into the lockers behind him. Azimio's loons cornered him, smacking him left and right while he tried to dodge their punches, tossing his fists as well when the guys were at their most vulnerable. Around them, the rest of the school came to investigate the sounds of yelling from outside and the lunch room became empty as everyone gathered into the hall to see Kurt Hummel getting his ass whooped by members of the football team.
"Leave him alone!" Someone yelled and Kurt looked up, not surprised to see Finn and Puck running straight at him, arms darting out to toss the boys attacking him off like they were pathetic little rag dolls. Puck immediately went to start beating the shit out of two of the guys while Finn took care of the other and once the guard dogs were called off, Kurt leapt back onto Azimio, kicking and punching with all his might as the other guy did the same. For several more moments, the fight continued on, glee kids and skanks alike fighting athletes as more and more people jumped in to try and stop it up until Coach Sylvester and Coach Beiste entered the hall and were somehow able to stop the fight completely.
By the end of it all, Kurt was leaning against his locker, arm tucked over his throbbing ribs and blood trickling down his face and onto his clothes. Puck and Finn were a little banged up (not as bad as their friend) and the football players who started it all were also looking pretty rough. It was a mess in the hall and Rachel, who was standing off to the side with her phone against her ear, did her best to try to explain what was happening to a very worried Burt Hummel.
::::::::::
"He's in his room. He's probably still knocked out. They gave him some pretty strong painkillers so be careful."
Blaine nodded at Burt's words and quietly climbed up the stairs, walking slowly down the hall towards Kurt's room as he thought about what happened earlier that day. He'd been sitting at home working on his homebound assignments when his dad came rushing out of the kitchen, breathless and wide-eyed. He took one look at Blaine then at the tutor before he asked the woman to follow him to the hall for a chat. Within seconds, the woman came back in to dismiss the rest of the tutoring and then Hiram was back, sitting on the sofa next to his son, head shaking as he took Blaine's hand in his own and told him some very shocking news.
Kurt had been jumped, beat up by members of the football team.
From what Rachel told everyone, she and the others were at lunch when they heard shouting. Finn instantly recognized Kurt's voice and he took off, everyone else behind him as they ran towards the screaming. There they found Kurt surrounded by some of the underclassmen football players and he was getting the shit beat out of him. Azimio was in the background, nose bloodied and swollen, and he kept on yelling things about Kurt, Blaine, and their child. Just the sight and sounds alone were enough to spur Finn and Puck into action and before Rachel knew it, the whole school seemed to be in on the brawl. By the end, Kurt was struggling to stand and everyone else was getting pulled away from each other and dragged to the principal's office.
Now Kurt was home and resting, having went to the hospital about his injuries just in case. Hiram, who drove Blaine to the Hummels' house, told him that Burt said that Kurt had some bruised ribs and various cuts and knots on him from the punches, but he wasn't hurt too badly. He'd just be in some pain for a few days. Oh, and he was suspended from school and banned from performing in Sectionals that upcoming weekend. Miraculously enough, his suspension would end once Christmas break was over and he'd be able to come back all thanks to Sue Sylvester, who took Kurt's side after she found out what Azimio said about Becky Jackson before the huge fight broke out.
Blaine heard about that too - what Azimio said - and it broke his heart to know that someone would wish something like that on an innocent child. As if having a child like that would be the worst thing in the world. Blaine knew Becky and he thought she was nice (a little mouthy sometimes, but still nice nonetheless) and for Azimio to say something so awful about people like her... it disgusted him. Shaking his head, he pushed all thoughts about the annoying bully from his mind and carefully opened Kurt's bedroom door, sneaking into the dark room as he listened to his boyfriend's soft breathing. Kurt was laying in the middle of the bed on his back, one arm laying across his belly while the other sat limp at his side. His rainbow hair was flat and falling in his eyes; he had a busted lip that luckily didn't require stitches (and Blaine was incredibly thankful that those guys didn't rip out any of Kurt's piercings either.) There was bruising on his jawline and cheek and all along his arms and collarbone. Also the area around his left eye was dark and swollen, puffy from trauma, and Blaine frowned, his heart throbbing in his chest as he took a seat beside Kurt's pajama clad leg.
"Oh honey."
This wasn't something he wanted to see, not ever. He'd been in this position before; getting jumped sucked and even now he wouldn't wish it on his worst enemy. Yet there was Kurt laying in his bed, body bruised and hurt and all Blaine wanted to do was go find Azimio and the other guys who did this and beat the living daylights out of them. He hated them, hated what they did to the love of his life, and he sniffled, crawling up the mattress to lay down next to Kurt, arm outreached to touch his sleeping love's hand.
"I'm so sorry they did this to you."
::::::::::
Did anyone get the license plate number of the idiot who ran me over? Kurt thought as he blinked his aching eyes open (or eye as he realized the other was swollen shut) and looked around the room, surprised to find himself resting in complete darkness. The room was toasty, heat blowing from the vent in his wall, and there was another larger warmth against his side, tucked incredibly close to his arm. It was also breathing.
"What-"
Whatever is was against him stirred, twitching a bit as it moved and stretched. The next thing Kurt knew, his bed was sinking as whatever (no, it was a person not a what) sat up, arms pushed towards the sky as they popped the kinks from their back. As they shifted, Kurt breathed in the scent of raspberries and he gasped, leaning up as well as he could without stressing his aching side.
"Blaine? Is that you?"
"Yeah, it's me." The boy said softly, body hunching over as he sweetly pressed a kiss to Kurt's lips. Fingers threaded through his hair, nails gently scraping against his scalp as his eyelashes fluttered shut and he leaned against Blaine's warm body, smiling when he felt his boyfriend's lips pepper kisses all along his face.
"I'm sorry."
"I'm really not sure why you're apologizing. You aren't the one who started the fight."
"But I blew up without thinking. I should've just walked away."
"Azimio deserved it. Finn said you broke his nose again. I'm glad you did. I would've broken it too." Under his breath, Blaine muttered something about snapping someone's neck and Kurt chuckled, nuzzling his nose against the juncture of Blaine's throat.
"So young. So angry."
"He shouldn't have done this to you, Kurt! He deliberately went up to you knowing that you would fight back and then he got his punk ass friends to finish the job while he stood back and wussed out! They hurt you and I hate seeing you hurt." Blaine's voice was shaking with anger, tense and sharp, and he himself was trembling against Kurt, body shivering as Kurt pulled him into an embrace.
"Oh Abs, I'm fine. They got some hits in, yeah. But I'm fine. I'm okay. I'll heal up and be back in school in no time." Together, they laid down on the bed, Kurt wrapped around the smaller boy as he tried to soothe his upset pregnant lover. Blaine was clinging to him like if he let go, Kurt would run off and get hurt again and deep down, Kurt wondered if this whole ordeal brought about a whole new set of fears in his boyfriend's mind. "Honey, it's okay."
"It's not okay. Do you know how scared I was when my dad told me you got beat up? All I could think about was that I hoped it wasn't like what happened with me. I prayed like crazy that you weren't stuck in the hospital in a coma or stuck in surgery because they jacked you up. God, I'm glad you're alright, but I'm so... so mad at those guys for doing that to you."
"Blaine-"
"And for the school to suspend you after those piece of shit guys were the ones who started it... it really pisses me off. Nothing's ever gonna change. They're always gonna side with bullies and let kids get picked on until they snap and then it's all I don't know why they hurt my kid; it's so sad how some people can't handle society today everybody gets bullied blah blah blah. But nobody understands. Why do people let their kids act that way? I would never- I will never let our daughter treat anyone like that. Not ever."
"I know," Kurt whispered, kissing the shell of his lover's ear as he hugged the younger teen a little tighter. Blaine's tremors calmed after he took in several deep breaths and once he was still in Kurt's arms, Kurt gently turned him so they were face-to-face. "We'll raise her to be a good person. She won't be like any of those neanderthals and she'll grow up to change the world."
"She will."
"But we will teach her how to fight too because I'm not letting her get hurt just because some idiot with numbskulls for parents decides to pick on her."
"I agree."
Kissing Blaine slowly, Kurt dropped one of his hands to the other boy's stomach and softly stroked the roundness, smirking against Blaine's lips when the baby kicked hard at his hand. "I missed this."
"We were only apart from each other for a few days."
"Well it was a few days too many." The baby kicked again and Blaine laughed, bumping his nose against Kurt's. His fingers brushed up against a cut in Kurt's hairline and the injured boy hissed a bit at the contact, hand twitching against Blaine's belly. "One of them was wearing a ring; that's why I got cut."
"He got you good. At least it wasn't deep enough to have to need stitches."
"Tell me about it."
"And your eye is all swollen too. Does it hurt much?"
"It just throbs a little. You know, for football players, those guys hit like pansies. Seriously, I think our daughter hits harder than them. It wouldn't have been so bad if they hadn't jumped me all at once. If it had just been Azimio or one of the other guys instead of all of them at the same time, I probably would've came out without a scratch."
"They tag-teamed you because they're scared of you."
"You know it. Punk ass bitches." Blaine chuckled against his shoulder and cuddled closer, his belly bumping Kurt's bony hip. At once, the baby began flutter kicking more, teasing her other dad with the soft bumps against his side and he smiled, patting Blaine's stomach again. "I think she's trying to say we need a nap."
Blaine yawned beside of him, earning a chuckle from Kurt. "Shut up. She's right, but still... quit laughing at me. I'm always tired nowadays."
"You are, but I don't mind it. Naps are pretty fucking amazing."
"That they are. Especially with you," the younger boy cooed and Kurt kissed him, pulling Blaine closer to him so that they were practically inseparable. Once they were molded together, he tugged his comforter over their bodies and closed his eyes, humming low in his throat as Blaine's soft voice joined his. Within moments, they both drifted off to sleep, content to be with one another after the horrible events of the day.
::::::::::
The weekend of Sectionals came fast and the New Directions were in a tizzy since Kurt had been banned from performing with them. His absence made it so the group had to rearrange the solos they'd planned plus the dynamic of the group shifted when two of their voices were out in the audience instead of up on stage with them. While Blaine hadn't been in the group long before he left school for homebound, his voice contributed quite a bit to the baritone/tenor parts of their songs and Kurt's high wipsy voice had such a special quality to it that for once in his whole choir career, he had a chance to shine on a Jackson 5 number.
Now he was sitting in the audience with Blaine, their hands linked together while they watched their group sing and dance their asses off without them.
"You okay?" Blaine asked when their friends finished singing and the applause finally died down a bit. Burt, Carole, Hiram, and Leroy were still cheering and all Kurt could do was clap politely while his group exited the stage and went back to obviously celebrate their kickass performance.
"I'm fine. Annoyed that I'm not up there. But I'm good."
"I understand. I wish I was up there too."
"Yeah. You dancing around with your very pregnant belly would've been pretty freaking hilarious to see."
"Shut up," Blaine grumbled, smacking his boyfriend's arm before he settled back in his seat and turned his attention to the front of the auditorium, lips turning downward as the curtains opened and a group full of blazer wearing boys filled the stage.
"And now," the announcer bellowed, "all the way from Westerville, Ohio - the Dalton Academy Warblers!"
Instantly the auditorium filled with sounds of perfect harmony. There wasn't a noise (talking or otherwise) in the place minus their voices and Kurt paled considerably, glancing over at Blaine as he watched his love's face turn from sad to a little bit happy. Kurt knew what he was thinking, how bittersweet it was to see this performance right now. If he hadn't of transferred last spring, he'd be up there right now singing. Probably singing lead since he told Kurt stories of how he was the main soloist for the Warblers for quite a while (Kurt also saw the videos and he totally understood the reason why.) The Warblers were good.
Sebastian, who Kurt immediately recognized, was leading them, voice blazing through a pop number that had the audience on their feet. Just watching him (and the other guys) sing made the whole row of people sitting next to Kurt very nervous. Those guys performing right then were amazing and based on the look on Blaine's face, they were blowing it out of the water.
When the final notes rang out and the group took a bow, Blaine was the first to jump up, screaming and applauding like a madman as he cheered for his friends. Sebastian spotted him and nodded and some of the other guys (who Kurt was able to recognize from the pictures of Blaine's wall) were grinning wide, waving at him before the curtains closed and the last group of the evening went to set up.
"I think I'm going to go see them," Blaine said softly, scooting out of his chair. "Do you want to come with me? The guys are dying to meet you and I told them that maybe they could at Sectionals. If you don't want to, you don't have to, but-"
"I'll go," Kurt agreed. He knew how important it was for Blaine to introduce him to his best friends. Dalton was all Blaine had for the longest time; it was his safe haven, his favorite place, and after he transferred, it was hard on him to leave his home behind. The Warblers, according to Blaine, were like the rockstars of Dalton - everyone respected them. They were friends with almost everyone and for quite some time, they'd been Blaine's only friends. To meet the guys who helped mold Blaine into what he was today... it was the least he could do, as strange as that sounded. "C'mon. Lead the way."
Standing up, he took Blaine's hand into his own and they carefully snuck out of the concert hall, sliding past students, faculty, and others who stopped by to see their respective choirs perform. Once they were out in the fray, Blaine whipped out his phone to text Sebastian, tugging Kurt's hand a second later to lead them towards the green rooms where the Warblers and New Directions would be waiting while the third group performed. With ninja like precision, they darted past the partially open door to the New Directions' green room and rushed over to the one with the Warblers, knocking just once before they opened the door and were greeted with cheers of BLAINE and BLAINE'S BABY DADDY. Kurt's cheeks flushed as he glared at the prep school boys before him, but his anger quickly dissipated when Blaine laughed happily and was quickly encased in a bear hug.
"Look how big you are!" One of the Warblers, a blonde boy, joked, stepping back to admire Blaine's belly. Some of the other guys quickly commented on it and Blaine asked them if they'd like to feel the baby kicking, of which plenty of them excitedly agreed. Several sets of hands landed on the swell of Blaine's stomach and Kurt smirked when his boyfriend began beaming as his friends cooed and laughed over feeling their friend's belly move.
"This is the coolest thing ever."
"Oh my god, David, she may just be a dancer like you. You could teach her how to dance!"
Blaine nodded along with Jeff, "You totally could, David."
"Dude, what if she's, like, a baby ninja and she comes out all hi-ya!"
Kurt's brows furrowed at what this other guy said. Blaine and the other Warblers chuckled at him, teasing him for his silliness and one of them called the guy Meatbox, which quickly clued Kurt in to the fact that this dude was the one who did all the beat boxing for the group. He was tall and somewhat burly, but he seemed nice and when he turned and found Kurt staring at him, the guy nodded before he came over and started making small talk with the quiet, lonely boy standing near the green room door. Within moments, a bunch of Blaine's other friends came over to introduce themselves (even Sebastian, who was much more cordial than the last time they saw each other) and by the time they were leaving ten minutes later on their way to see the New Directions, Kurt realized that not one of them said anything about the black eye he had or the numerous cuts and bruises that littered his skin.
"None of your friends said anything about my-"
"Because I told them what happened. Well, at least the gist of it. They respect you, Kurt. I like you so they like you and after they heard what you did for me and her, well... they wanted to meet you even more." Blaine tightened his hold on Kurt's and stopped him before they hit the door to their other friends' green room. "Did you like them?"
"They're a pretty unique group, but so are the New Directions, so I'm cool with them."
"Good, I'm glad. They're some of my best friends and you're my really, really best friend so I need you all to get along."
"I'm your really really best friend?" Kurt teased in a baby talk-like voice and Blaine smacked him again, much like he had earlier.
"Yes! Now shut up. We need to go wish them luck before the judges come to call them backstage."
When the couple turned and stepped into the green room, they too were greeted with cheers from their friends and Kurt couldn't help but smile at his friends' enthusiasm for the competition as well as seeing him and Blaine even though a lot of them saw them quite frequently. Seconds later, Blaine was swarmed by the glee girls (and surprisingly enough, Rory) who all wanted to touch his belly and after he was successfully able to fit everyone's hands on his stomach, he glanced back and gave Kurt a smile that could light up a room.
Kurt couldn't help but smile back.
::::::::::
In the end, the Warblers and New Directions tied. It was what Blaine hoped for and even though he was shocked as hell to hear that the judges were deadlocked and decided to send both groups to Regionals, he did feel bad for the third group. Oh well though.
"So," Kurt started, one hand gripping the steering wheel of the Navigator as he drove them down the highway. "Are you excited for our date?"
"I would be excited even if we were heading back to your house for a night full of movies, junk food, and naps."
"You would be." His other hand was linked with Blaine's, fingers squeezing his boyfriend's as he drove them to a secret location just twenty minutes from Lima. It was a favorite eatery of his that he occasionally went to with his dad, but tonight he wanted to share it with Blaine, to celebrate their friends' win at Sectionals. Smiling, he lifted Blaine's hand close to his mouth and kissed the smooth skin on the back, lowering it to rest back on Blaine's thigh before he put his attention back on the road again. Blaine sighed happily next to him, snuggling down in his seat as he watched the signs speed by before they finally got off at an exit and Kurt drove them through a small town.
"I am so hungry right now. All her bouncing around is making me nauseous for food."
Kurt glanced over at him for a minute as they sat stopped at a red light. He slid his hand from Blaine's and patted his lover's belly, scolding in a warm voice. "Quit kicking your daddy before he pukes in my car." Like that, the kicks ceased and Blaine burst out laughing, rubbing his belly with both hands as he tried (and failed because he could barely breathe from laughing so hard) to explain why he was cracking up. Before he could finish his story, Kurt pulled them into a small parking lot that sat right outside a tiny looking diner.
"Mammy's Place? Never heard of it."
"They have the best food, I swear. It's all country cooking and me and dad love it. You'll love it, I promise. Now come on, let's feed you before you decide to ralph all over the place." Rolling his eyes playfully, Kurt helped Blaine out of the car and led him into the restaurant, smiling at an older woman who came up to him with two menus. "Hey Rhonda. Got a table for me and my boyfriend?"
"Oh, so this is the Blaine your dad's been telling me about? He's a cutie. Oh and he's got the cutest baby belly. You look great, sweetheart. How far along are you?"
"I'm almost eight months. I'm due in February." Blaine beamed back, hand resting on top of his bump. The waitress nodded at him, turning on her heel to have them follow her towards the back of the restaurant. She seated them in a corner booth, sliding a few menus across to them before she ran off to get the pen and pad of paper she'd forgotten at the register. While she was gone, Kurt ran through the menu with things he'd tried (and loved) and things he thought Blaine would enjoy. By the time Rhonda came back, they were both ready to order.
Blaine got a strawberry milkshake and the macaroni and cheese dinner. Kurt got a chilli burger with a mint shake (which made no sense to Blaine until Kurt explained that the mint cooled down the heat from the chilli) and since the shop wasn't too busy, their food came out ridiculously fast and they ate quietly, occasionally glancing up to smile at each other before they went back to eating.
"I'm glad we did this," Blaine murmured, sipping on a glass of ice water before he went to drink his milkshake again. "It's been a lot of fun."
"I agree. I'm glad you decided to come out with me."
"It's our first official date. Why wouldn't I come out with you?"
"Because I look like a punching bag-"
"You look amazing. You look brave and I love that. I love you. Now, umm... can I have one of your fries?"
Kurt laughed, "You can have whatever you want." He meant it.
::::::::::
For the first time in weeks, Kurt felt light, happy. He and Blaine had a wonderful date; they spent the night eating good food and talking about random things like their childhood hobbies or favorite tv shows. After dinner, Kurt took Blaine to see a movie, something that they barely paid any attention to because they spent the majority of the time sharing soft kisses and staring at each other through the darkness of the theater. By late evening, Kurt was driving them back home (to his house) because Blaine was going to spend the night and the date wouldn't be over until he went home to following morning.
It had taken quite the persuading for Kurt to get permission from Burt as well as Blaine's parents about the whole date/sleepover deal, but when Kurt noted the fact that Blaine was already pregnant and nothing more extravagant could happen between them, the adults relented and Blaine was allowed to stay.
However, him spending the night wasn't about to be anything sexual. Kurt wasn't sure if Blaine was ready for that kind of intimacy right now, especially after what happened the last time they'd been together (after Kurt ran out following his meltdown in the bathroom) so, Kurt was going to give his boyfriend the time and space he needed.
"What movie do you want to watch?" He asked, turning around to face Blaine with a handful of DVDs. Blaine was stretched out on his bed, pajamas already on and rumpled, and he was flopped out flat on his back, hand scratching his belly as he squinted at his boyfriend.
"I can't see what you're holding. Read them off to me."
"Well, you'd be able to see if you just took your contacts out and put your glasses on. I can't help it that your eyes are tired. Your contacts are going to melt and stick to your eyeballs if you don't take them out, sleepy head. Go on. I'll pick out a movie that you'll inevitably fall asleep to while you're gone." Behind him, Blaine flipped him the bird and he coughed out a laugh, smirking as he picked a slower film to play since no matter what he chose was going to lull Blaine to sleep anyway. A minute or two later, Blaine came dragging out of the bathroom, lazily draping himself over Kurt as he peppered kisses along his lover's neck.
"Did you find a movie? I want to snuggle."
"It's already in the player. I've got the remote right here-" He waved the device around, "-and the bed's all ready for us to climb into." Turning, he kissed Blaine's forehead and then ran across the room, snapping the light switch to off before he hopped on the bed and burrowed under the covers with Blaine. Once they were settled in the bed, he started the movie and cuddled up around his boyfriend, arms linked over the boy's round belly. It didn't take long for Blaine to doze off at all and once he was fast asleep, Kurt slunk his arms out from around Blaine, took off the sleeping boy's glasses to set on the nightstand, and climbed over him, kneeling down so that he was eye level with the swell of Blaine's tummy. "Hey baby girl. I love you," he cooed at the bump, leaning his cheek against it as he began to sing a quiet lullaby to the child growing inside. His voice was soft, soothing, and as he sang to his unborn baby, he slipped away to his thoughts where he was standing over a crib singing this very same song to a very adorable infant.
Above him, not as asleep as Kurt thought, lay Blaine, a sleepy smile on his face as he admired the loving way his boyfriend sang to their child. Months ago, he never expected to have this and yet there was he was, resting from the perfect first date while his boyfriend sang to their unborn child.
It was perfect. Kurt was perfect and Blaine never wanted the moment to end.
A/N: Filler, filler filler (I'm singing this to the tune of a very popular video game. I'm pretty sure you can guess what it is if you sing it!) Anyway, there wasn't much in this chapter minus Kurt getting beat up (of which I actually had planned before Bash aired... creepy.) But stuff still happened, right? Plus the boys went on their first real date and soon they've gotta discuss more baby stuff and everything. Yay! Anyway, thanks for the response last chapter and I hope you like this one. Keep sending me those baby names too! I'm loving what you guys are thinking of (and, as you already know, if there's anything in regards to the baby/pregnancy/their relationship that you might wanna see in future chapters - drop me a line! Thanks!)
