Title: New Blood of a Lost Age
A Halo/HTTYD Crossover
So it's been a while... since my last update which was on the 14th of February. Hope you did something nice for Valentine's day? Did you treat them to a nice meal? A good movie? Or did you send yourself a card again and wonder why life hates you? I certainly did! How about the recent Earth day? It's our planet we need to keep it clean, it's not uranus. Here's another chapter for you and please, please keep reviewing and following my little story so we can become the number 1 fandom on the intertubes! In case you couldn't guess, the battle for Berk as I call it in my mind begins here but enough spoilers because you're about to find out what happens anyway!
They landed on the wooden pontoon of the Viking village's docks. Around them, they could see their fellow troops doing the same, there was a chilly breeze blowing into the harbour making the Elites, that were used to the 55 degree heats of Iruiru on Sangheilios caused by three suns, shiver in their armour. Saso waited for the rest of his unit to form up before joining the large parade of Covenant troops marching up the docks towards the Viking village above. He contemplated why he was here, on this cold, weak island being sent to destroy a foe that by all means didn't deserve the punishment it was about to receive. Sure, it was unfair for them to just walk in and say 'hi' by destroying their homes and killing their children, but he wasn't one to question orders. That's what kept him and his squad mates alive, by knowing when to follow orders and when to turn and run. It was thought to be dishonourable, but it kept him and his battle brothers alive. The impending onslaught worried him greatly, his target was effectively unarmed, undeserving and contained the ancestors of some of the UNSC's soldiers, which would mess up the future. Behind him, he could hear some of his Grunts chattering away about how their enemies were giants that could pick up Wraiths and throw them as if they weighed nothing. Then he heard one of the Minors harshly disciplining them about their stories. If it were him, he would've simply let them believe their stories, but that's only because he'd heard much the same thing in the mess hall.
They were nearing the top of the slope up to the village and could hear the sounds of the first squads engaging with the UNSC/Viking forces. Soon they would join them in the battle to take the island. When they reached to top they could see several squads using buildings and barricades as cover. The unit split into three with the two minors taking five Grunts each and Saso taking the remaining Jackals off to one side. They found an empty barn with an upstairs level and a set of windows looking all around for the Jackals to snipe from. They had a clear view of part of the UNSC's wall of sand bags and some of the marines behind it. The Jackals armed with Beam Rifles got straight to work on three Marines talking into their communicators.
Back outside, Saso rejoined with one of his Minors, who'd lost two Grunts to Marines. All around them, new squads joined the fight. A squad of Elite Ultras charged on some Marines who were having a bit of trouble because of a lack of ammunition, cutting them down gracefully with their Energy Swords which turned to lightning on an enemy when used by a properly trained individual.
Suddenly a warning in the form of the Operations Commander's voice came on the comm. "Beware, my brothers, the Demon has been spotted in the area. May the Ancestors shine upon you today."
Some Grunts from other units squealed at this news and darted away from their Elite leaders, only to be gunned down from the rear. It was a terrible sight, the forces of the Covenant had been driven back successfully and the beats in the sky hadn't even attacked them yet, thankfully. One of the Minors from Saso's regiment bounded up to him with a look of distress written on his face. He and Saso had been through a lot together and had a strong friendship, they looked to each other for emotional guidance and found that they could rely on the other to carry them through tough times. He spoke: "Saso, our forces to the east have met with difficulties that throw spears. Meanwhile, our men in the west had reported tracks leading into the forest, which could lead us to wherever the tribe is hiding it's civilian population."
Saso's eyes focused and hardened on him. "Had?"
"Yes, unfortunately, they exposed themselves to the Human's Gauss turrets up on the hill and-". At that moment, the brains of Saso's best friend flew out the side of his head in a gruesome red splatter, covering a Grunt that was crouching in fear, followed by the menacing crack a sniper rifle. Saso looked down at the motionless corpse in sadness, but, now was not the time for mourning, he would do that later, as now was the time for action.
Hiccup and Toothless were gliding over Berk, below them, they could see the two armies fighting savagely for the land. Hiccup looked at the invading force's troops down on the ground. Little specs running around and jumping in and out of cover. From this altitude he could also see others marching up through the docks with more being delivered. Below him alien flying machines weaved and dodged the white hot shots coming from what he overheard the Marines describing as 'Gauss Cannons', well, whatever they were they did their jobs as another craft was blasted to Odin knows where.
Just then he heard a fragile sounding female voice in his ear that was louder than the chatter from the Marines, it was addressing him too. "Hiccup this is the UNSC Indigo Terra, do you read me? Over." He wasn't sure how he was supposed to read a voice, but it sounded important.
"Uh... Y-yeah I-I hear you, I guess." He spoke hesitantly, not sure if the voice really was a person or just his imagination, until it replied.
"I've been assigned as your personal radio operative for the time being. My name is Katie Pearson, if you need any assistance just say Ms Pearson and I'll hear you at any time. I will also issue any tasks that are specifically for you. Regarding that, I have you your first job, over."
"Uh, go ahead." At this point Hiccup was beginning to wonder why he really needed a personal... something. He had his best friend Toothless to sort out anything he couldn't handle!
"Look over to the alien ship, can you see it? Over."
He looked behind him to the massive purple war machine that cast a dark shadow over his very soul. "Yes".
"Three of the carriers like the ones bringing more troops to the island have just left and are flying towards Berk, can you see them too? Over" The voice sounded kind, caring and patient, unlike most of the Marines who spoke in a concise manner. It took Hiccup a minute to focus, but eventually he saw them.
Three Phantoms loomed into view, each was carrying a Wraith under its belly. Miss Pearson's voice crackled through the radio once more. "Those three ships are carrying some specialist equipment which can flatten your village in the blink of an eye. I need you to use Toothless to do dive bomb hit and runs on all three of them, take them out in any order as they aren't very manoeuvrable so you don't need to be overly precise. Take out the engines on the side and the rest of the ship will be destroyed with the explosion. Over."
"Take them out, do it quickly. Got it." Hiccup's determination flooded right back to him.
"One other thing Hiccup, they can drop the equipment from their current altitude, so take them out before they get to Berk or we'll have a whole new problem on our hands. Any questions? Over." It took him a minute to process all of this, but one question did make itself present in his head, and since she was asking...
"Why do you keep saying over at the end of everything?" he innocently inquired.
Miss Pearson chuckled to herself, then answered. "When I say 'over' at the end of a transmission it simply means I've finished talking and am open to communication from others. When I say 'out' It means I've finished but you shouldn't talk to me unless you've finished your mission. Over"
"So, what if I said 'over and out'?"
"Ah, well that doesn't make sense if you think about it really because you're basically saying 'talk to me don't talk to me', which makes no sense, so over and out means nothing. Good luck, Pearson out."
"Thanks". He looked down at Toothless, who grinned back at him. "I guess you heard that, bud?". He nodded. Let's show them just what dragons and vikings can do! He thought to himself as Toothless surged forward.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH I AM THE KING OF CLIFF-HANGERSSSS!
