Mikau: Hi there, guys! Long time no see! But I guess that's a good thing considering that I write these when I have writer's block. Which I don't actually have, by the way. I was bored the other day and came across some word of the day prompts that someone…Kagami or something? ^.^; was doing for Poirot Café. I think you're supposed to pick one of the five words of the day and write a fic based on that, but I decided to take all five words and fit them into one story. For this one it's: shooting, wig, morning tea, memory, and rash. Before we get going, I want to thank all of my reviewers from last time: Bunnyz-chan, MeitanteiRose, GeekyGenius (times three), and Miss Emotion (times two). And on with the show.
Disclaimer: If I owned it, I'd have a lot of fun playing dress up with Kaito. (Insert evil smile.) I've always loved stylish guys' clothes, but I've never had a boyfriend to dress up, and my brother could care less about looking good, so I think I'd play dress up with Kaito.
…
Forgotten Escapades
It was morning, and Kaito was not sleeping in his own bed. That was about as much as he could tell you. There was a shooting pain in his head and his side…make that his ribs. His ribs were definitely bruised, and now that Kaito was conscious, those ribs were lodging their complaint with full force.
And everything smelled like pine for some reason. Hold on. Kaito knew that smell. He sat up (as his ribs protested), and a long, blonde wig slid off of his head. He blinked until things stopped being blurry, and, sure enough, his hypothesis was confirmed: he was sitting in Hakuba freaking Saguru's bed at the Hakuba Manor.
And the bastard was right there, sitting at his desk on the other side of the room, typing away merrily, reading glasses perched on his nose. He turned around when he heard the covers rustle. He took a sip of his morning tea and smirked.
"Well. Don't we look lovely this morning?" the jerk snickered, giving Kaito an appreciative once-over.
Kaito groaned, flopping back down on the bed. His ribs screamed, but he ignored them in favor of snatching the wig the rest of the way off and chucking it at Hakuba.
"Are we in a mood?" Saguru teased, not even having to dodge, Kaito's aim was so off and his throw was half-hearted.
"Shut up. My head hurts," Kaito whined, trying to think. What had happened? "You look awfully smug; mind telling me why I have no memory of what happened last night?"
"You were drugged." Saguru shrugged, taking sadistic pleasure in his friend's current situation.
"Yeah? And then what?" Kaito growled. He felt itchy all over. Realizing that he was still in the sleazy cocktail dress he had been wearing the evening before, he reached behind himself for the zipper (RIBS!) and shimmied out of the dress. This left him scantily clad in women's lingerie.
Saguru rolled his eyes, getting up and tossing a cover over his shameless companion. "After that? I took you home with me. You woke up in my bed. You should be able to fill in the blanks, I think?"
"Prick," Kaito hissed. He was still itchy. He moved to scratch at his abdomen.
"I wouldn't do that," Saguru called in an annoying, sing-songy tone as he sauntered back over to his desk.
Kaito opened one eye to glare at the blonde. "Yeah?"
"Yes," Saguru confirmed. "I'll get you some Benadryl and some calamine lotion in a minute."
Kaito's other eye slowly slid open, and he lifted up the cover Hakuba had placed over his body for modesty's sake.
There was an irritable red rash on Kaito's stomach, left thigh, and right arm.
"The hell is that?!" Kaito squeaked.
Saguru shrugged. "You may have landed in a bush containing poison ivy after you fell out the window."
Kaito stared at the Brit incredulously.
Saguru frowned. "How much do you remember from last night?"
"I remember posing as your girlfriend and getting you into that party to help out with the drugs bust. We schmoozed, made googoo eyes at each other, and then split up to gather intel. I flirted with a couple of the higher up members of the cartel, and then…I was working on the right hand man, wasn't I? Things get fuzzy after that."
Saguru nodded. "You make a very convincing woman. He spiked your drink with plans of taking you upstairs."
"Oh." Kaito gulped. "And?"
"I intervened," Saguru assured.
In all actuality, "intervened" was an understatement. When Saguru had seen that bruiser with his paws on Kaito, pulling him towards the stairs leading to the back rooms as Kaito stumbled and tripped drunkenly, Saguru lost it. He'd beaten the tar out of that guy with his judo skills, at one point using the man's own enormous weight to sling the guy into a wall hard enough to crack the plaster. Not that the walls were made of high quality materials, but still.
And that had caused quite the scene, unfortunately. Thugs had come out of the woodwork to do their own little "intervention" and get in on the action, converging on Kaito and Saguru. And just before the police could bust in and completely blow their cover, Kaito regained some of his motor skills and decided to get in on the fight. In the brawl, he'd been sent out the second story window, colliding with some distinctively un-soft tree limbs before landing in the patch of poison ivy.
"Yeah? And then what happened that ended in me with bruised ribs and poison ivy?" Kaito grumbled.
"There was a bit of a conflict, and you were thrown out a window and into a tree followed by a bush in the fray." Saguru shifted uncomfortably. "I rushed to your aid, of course."
"Of course," Kaito snorted. "Thanks for having my back, buddy." Kaito's words dripped sarcasm.
"Anything for you," Saguru replied cheerfully, almost sounding sincere as he turned back to face his laptop.
"So you just brought me home with you as is?" Kaito curled back up in the covers in a position that would best accommodate his injured ribs and itchy skin.
"Pretty much." Saguru shrugged, face coloring slightly as he remembered what had happened after the poison ivy but before coming back to the Hakuba Manor. He wondered if he should tell Kaito or keep it to himself.
Part of him was enjoying knowing something that his long-time rival didn't. And part of him was afraid that Kaito had just been under the influence of alcohol mixed with illegal substances at the time.
He bit his lip and kept his eyes glued to the computer screen as he quietly continued. "Actually…you were the one that insisted I take you home with me."
Kaito rolled his eyes. "Yeah right. Why would I do that?"
"Because…you really scared me. When I found you, you were unconscious and not breathing. I sort of…I did CPR." Saguru gulped.
Kaito's eyes slowly widened, and his face went as pink as the Barbie aisle of a toy store.
"Only you woke up just a split second before, and…" Saguru nervously scratched at his arm where he had a rash of his own from rolling around on the ground, lip-locked with his long-time rival and crush.
"And?" Kaito stayed as still as a corpse.
"You were drunk and drugged. I'm sure you didn't know what you were doing at the time when we k-kissed, so…I'm perfectly willing to pretend that the kiss didn't happen," Saguru offered.
"Oh. Thanks." Kaito's blush deepened as he shifted awkwardly. Well. That was one way for your crush to find out that you're tsundere and that you've just been playing hard to get this whole time.
But wait a minute.
"Hakuba, you weren't drunk at the time," Kaito managed to piece together despite his pounding head and screaming sides. "Why did you let me kiss you?" He sat up and stared at the back of Saguru's head.
The blonde tensed and then sighed in defeat. "Because I've been waiting for you to kiss me for five years now," he confessed.
Kaito slowly got up and walked across the room to Saguru's side, blanket draped across his shoulders.
Saguru gathered the courage to turn and face Kaito, but he was so sure that he would be rejected.
Kaito smiled softly and leaned in to kiss Hakuba on the cheek. "Sorry for keeping you waiting."
…
Mikau: Yeah, that was silly, but how else was I supposed to make all of those prompts fit together? Besides, I had a lot of fun with this one, and I'm actually quite pleased with how it turned out. I hope you enjoyed it too! Thanks in advance for your reviews! Have a great day guys!
