HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
Jess ran faster than Willa was down the side walk. There were no more zombies! They just sort of...disappeared. She slowed down, and eventually stopped.
"You're...sure you saw zombies?"
"I'm positive!" Willa said, clutching her butcher knife. "They were dead! But moving!"
"Willa..." Jess sighed.
"I'M SERIOUS!"
They couldn't talk for too long. Police sirens came screaming down the streets. Jess spun around and saw three police cars. "HEY!" a police officer yelled out the window. "Fellas, she matches the picture!"
"Time to go," Jess grabbed Willa's wrist and started dragging her along, running. They ran out to a parking lot, but they couldn't outrun cars. The three cars surrounded them from either side. Willa wrapped her arm around Jess protectively as the officers stepped out.
"Set the weapons down," one cop said calmly.
Shaking, Willa laid the knife on the ground. Jess let her baseball bat just fall to the ground.
"Jessica Lockheart?"
Jess hesitated, licking her lips. That was enough for the officer. "You have been accused of terrorizing a woman by the name of Nash."
"I neve-"
"You have the right to remain silent. You will be tried for in co-" the officer cut himself off. Jess gasped as blood trickled out of his mouth and he fell flat on his face.
"JIM!" another officer yelled, running over to the officer. The last cop pulled out his gun and pointed it at Jess.
"I didn't do it!" Jess threw her hands up as soon as the gun was pointed at her. As soon as she raised her hands, the officer with the gun choked, dropping the gun and clawing at his throat.
"W-Whatever you're doing..." the last cop said as the choking officer collapsed. "P-Please stop. We mean no harm."
"I'm not doing anything!" Jess yelled. The cop's body suddenly twisted in ways a human's body shouldn't be twisted. He let out a terrifying scream and fell to the ground.
Jess screeched, stumbling away from the dead officers. "THEY'RE DEAD!"
Willa grabbed Jess's arm. "Holy shit...holy shit..." Willa never swore in her life. "OH MY GOD!"
"THEY'RE DEAD! THEY ARE ACTUALLY DEAD!" Jess fell to her knees, tangling her fingers in her hair. "WILLA! THEY DIED! THEY'RE DEAD!"
"The first human victims of the renewal of fairlies," a voice hissed through the air. Willa screamed, covering her eyes. Tears poured down her face.
"DON'T HURT ME! DON'T HURT ME!"
"Wait...fairlies?" Jess looked around. "I...I'm a fairly!"
"I know, Jessica," a girl suddenly materialized in front of her. She had the body of a ten year old but the eyes of someone hundreds of years old. Jess screeched, falling back on her butt and putting her hands out in front of her protectively.
"I should have dreamt this. This is totally a Jess kind of a dream!" she whispered to herself. "Why didn't I know this was coming?"
"You don't see everything important in the future, Jess," the girl said, almost...kind. Jess looked up at the girl. "But you power is still great. You still have much to learn."
"L-Learn?"
"You're not alone, Jess."
"What is this fairly renewal?" Jess asked, feeling more and more comfortable and brave around this girl.
"The extermination of the humans, of course."
Jess looked back at Willa. Willa squeaked in fear. Jess turned back to the girl.
"I'm a fairly! You would listen to me if I said don't hurt her, right?"
The girl examined Willa before shaking her head. "No, she would die too."
"I OBJECT!" Jess rose to her feet. "Humans aren't bad!"
"LOOK AT THEM, JESS!" the girl pointed at police officer corpses. Jess stared at the girl, not wanting to see them. "Look at them. Humans who were out to get you. Why? Because you aren't seen as special. You're seen as dangerous." The girl took a step towards Jess, and Jess took a step backwards. "You'll never be accepted on Earth. Humans fear anything they can't explain. They fear anything different than them. They fear US!" The girl paused for dramatic effect before continuing. "You are forced to hide who you really are just to satisfy the humans. Why do we do that? We're more powerful than them! They should try to satisfy US!"
"But..."
"They had their chance a long time ago. They've killed billions of us, Jess."
"Killing them is not the answer," Jess begged. "There's a better way for your goal!"
"THEY HAD THEIR CHANCE!" the girl's voice bellowed through the empty parking lot. "They lost their chance once they killed me."
"Killed you..." Jess muttered. "A...A ghost?!"
"Ding ding ding, we have a winner!"
"You sent those zombies!" Willa gasped, bringing all the attention to her. Big mistake. The girl thrust her hand out, and Willa's knife shook before levitating off of the ground and shooting towards her.
"AHHHHHH!" Willa screeched, ducking and covering her head. The knife dug into a telephone pole behind her. The ghost girl hissed.
"I'll never join you!" Jess yelled, stepping in front of the ducking Willa. "Forget it!"
Ghost girl hissed again. "Remember me, Jessica. You can be my ally or my enemy. And you don't want to make an enemy out of Mendilina Varcasso." Ghost girl dissolved into thin air. Jess panted before falling onto her hands and knees. She couldn't help but look back at they officers.
She let out another scream. Willa crawled over to her, and the two hugged, sobbing.
