2. Blame it on the Pizza

Back in 2105:

"Are you sure you're doing that right?" Freddi took a step back and eyed Samantha nervously.

"Of course! How hard could it be to cut a pizza? If mindless robots do it for us all the time, I should have no trouble." Samantha waved the knife around as she spoke, making Freddi step back further. Freddi thought about making an excuse to leave, but decided it wasn't worth it. She and Samantha were supposed to be studying for a math test together, but had chosen to take a break for the time being.

"Maybe we should just use one of those 'mindless robots' instead. It is part of their job after all. They're less likely to break objects… or us for that matter." Freddi's nervousness was showing in her voice.

"Don't worry so much. It'll be fine!" Again, she flung the knife around in her hand without a care in the world.

"Okay..." Freddi took another step back just to be safe. She bumped into a small table. Freddi gave it sidelong glance, noticing what was laying on top of it. "Why do you have The Book?"

"Hmm?" Samantha looked up from her concentrated effort of cutting the pizza. She'd managed to cut two very uneven pieces and pull off half of the cheese so far. The pizza was beginning to look a little pathetic and Freddi didn't have much hope for it being much of a meal. She made a mental note to grab some food on the way home.

"The Book. Why is it here with you and not with Jodie?"

Samantha didn't look up from her mission. "Oh! I have a history research project due in Mrs. Tuft's class next week."

"Ah." It wasn't uncommon for the girls to use The Book for school. After all, why not take advantage of the best history research tool in the space-time continuum? Unlike the boys, they knew how to use it properly. "So, what's the paper about?"

"She wants us to write about Garibaldi and the unification of Italy in the nineteenth century." Samantha paused momentarily. "Aha!" She triumphantly threw her arms into the air. "I told you I could do it!" She beamed proudly down at what was left of the pizza. No one slice matched another and the pizza only had two pepperonis left that hadn't been pulled off in Samantha's epic struggle with the pizza. Sauce and cheese were splattered everywhere.

Freddi however, did not notice. She was distracted by something a bit more frightening than Samantha's pizza cutting skills, or lack thereof. "Um, Samantha?"

"Hmm?" Samantha looked up with as piece of pizza stuffed in her mouth and another one in her hand. "Oh." Both slices fell to the floor. "Oops."

The knife had sliced through the cover of The Book with ease. Green mist slowly filled the room.

Freddi shook her head and looked down. "Jodie is going to kill you."

The Book quickly sucked them away in a flash of bright green light.

A/N - So I decided to continue this story as well. I don't know how often it will be updated because it's more a side-project. I know this chapter was short, but this story is being written in a more episodic format. Feel free to check out my other stories. A review or favourite would be very loved. Thanks for reading!
