thanks to GUEST for this prompt! I was having a hard time thinking of what to do, and I got swept away in my SuperWhoLock obsession again. I'm writing this now, though. J It's not exactly what you suggested, but it's good enough…right?
WG2
Clara was pulled into the TARDIS roughly, the Doctor pushing her over to the console. She gripped at it, panting for breath and trying to stand up as the Doctor slammed and locked the doors. He rushed over and set a reassuring hand on her shoulder quickly before running around the console and getting them the heck off of that planet.
"I thought you said that planet didn't have cannibals!" she shouted, fighting to get her breath back. The Doctor's new body was an older man's, but it was still quick and nimble, and a bit taller than the last one, which meant she had an even harder time catching up with him when they ran. He'd practically dragged her along just now, scared for her life.
"The TARDIS scanner said it didn't!" he defended himself as the machine started to leave the planet. "I made sure to read the scanner! See, it's still open to the page. It says right here that it doesn't have-" he broke off, and looked harder at the screen.
His face went red and he started to whistle, looking elsewhere but her furious face.
She could just kill him sometimes.
Clara looked past the rotor to look at him, since he had stopped whistling. He had his hands up to his head, his face scrunched up in what could only be pain. Worry sparked in her stomach, and she quickly walked over.
"Doctor, are you alright?"
"Um," his mouth sounded dry as he replied, "Yeah, I'm just a bit…woozy."
"Woozy?" she echoed, then furrowed her brows at him questioningly, "When was the last time you went to sleep?"
He frowned slightly.
"A couple of weeks ago?"
Clara face-palmed. He started to stumble when he tried to walk away, and she reached out to stabilize him.
"Doctor, you are getting some rest."
"I need to do the, ah.." he waved his arms around, trying to remember what he was going to do, "ah…the um, the thing, the phone thing that I meant to do last time, the ah…replacing the console unit thing."
"I'm very, very sure you were not going to do that, and even if you were, I'm not letting you do that until you get some rest."
The Doctor gave her a look that was a third amusement, a third annoyance, and a third exhaustion. He sighed and turned around, sarting to walk away.
He crumpled to the floor.
Clara's eyes went wide as a mattress popped up under the Doctor's body, and she heard the TARDIS humming. Smiling, she patted the console and started to look at the controls.
"Now, how do I get him to my flat?"
Clara slipped into her oversized pea-coat, which was a warm red that made a nice contrast with her hair. She swung her purse over her shoulder and grabbed her helmet, walking out of the school, locking the doors behind her. She got onto the motorcycle that the Doctor had given her after their first visit to Trenzalore, and started to drive home.
The second Clara opened the door to her flat, she was blasted by a strange smell. It smelled good, but it also smelled a bit strange, nothing she'd ever experienced before. She closed the door behind her and hung up her coat, dropping her purse in the hallway. She heard grunts and walked down the hallway and into her bedroom, where she'd dragged the Doctor onto her bed a couple of days earlier.
He was sitting up now, looking around with a confused look on his face. He caught sight of her and she smiled at him widely, and his eyes went wide.
"Am I in your flat?"
"Yeah. Dragged you here myself. Had to go to work, decided to leave you somewhere safe, somewhere I'd know you'd be. Somebody has to keep an eye on you."
He smiled at her, and she tilted her head a bit, smiling even wider.
"What's that smell?" he asked, his nose going up in the air a bit. Clara furrowed her eyebrows and smelled the air again.
Huh.
What was that smell?
Clara wandered into the kitchen and found her Dad standing there, stirring some sort of strange thing in a pan.
"Um, hi Dad." she said. Her Dad turned and gave her a big smile.
"Hello, Clara."
"So, um, whatcha doin' here?"
"Going through town and I thought I'd make dinner for you like the old days." He replied, smiling as he continued stirring the strange mixture.
Clara heard her bedroom door creaking, and she started to back out of the kitchen when her Dad heard it and his eyes narrowed immediately.
It was never easy to hide things from someone who believed bad things about the government.
Then again, it wasn't hard to believe that he would think the government was a conspiracy. Considering her mother and the love of his life had been killed by live gunner-dolls, it wasn't too far-fetched.
"Have someone over?" he asked suspiciously.
"No, I got a cat." the lied slipped easily off her tongue. She had to stop herself from furrowing her brows at her own lie. How had it slipped so easily?
"A cat." her father repeated, staring at her. "You have…a cat."
"Yeah, I'll go get the kitty." Clara replied, smiling at her dad. She backed out of the kitchen and turned towards her bedroom, walking quickly. It was a good thing the TARDIS had parked itself inside of her bedroom. She walked through the door and bumped into the Doctor, who almost made an oof sound, but she grabbed his shirt and brought his lips down to hers. She deepened the kiss, but it was a short one that had originated from her need to have no noise come out of him.
It felt good.
She smiled up at him, and he smiled back sheepishly, his face reddening, Clara pointed past him at the time machine, and he walked into the machine, her following. She closed the door.
"Okay. Ignore what we just did for a moment. I need a cat."
"You need a cat?"
"I need a cat."
"Why would you need a cat?"
"JUST GET ME A CAT." she snapped. He flinched and flipped a lever, she was extremely grateful when the TARDIS made no noise while disappearing from her flat.
After getting an adorable kitten from the local pound, the TARDIS reappeared inside of her room a second after they left. She took the kitten out of the machine, motioning for the Doctor to stay inside.
Clara showed her father the cat, and he nodded approvingly.
"Doesn't look like a robot."
She almost face-palmed at her dad's comment, but she was too busy cooing at the cat.
After dinner, Mr Oswald left and Clara took the kitten back into the TARDIS.
"So, back to the pound?" the Doctor asked.
Clara felt horrified at the suggestion, and it must have showed on her face. She held the kitten to her chest and giggled when it climbed up and curled up in the curve of her neck.
The Doctor grinned and came over, running his finger lightly over the kitten's tiny ear. The little cat perked up and purred, rubbing its tiny head all over the Doctor's hand.
Clara giggled.
"It's so adorable." she cooed, "We need a cat around the TARDIS, anyway." she looked up at the Doctor, and he nodded, still smiling down at the purring little kitty.
His eyes looked up from the cat to her eyes, and their gazes locked.
Shivers ran up Clara's spine when she noticed his eyes. Icy and always intimidating to their enemies, but always so kind and loving towards her. He was leaning in towards her a bit. Was he?
No, she was leaning up towards him. He was simply leaning down to meet her halfway.
Just as their lips were about to meet, the most adorable little meow came from Clara's neck, and they looked down to see that the kitten had been squished between the Doctor and Clara, the two had gotten that close. Clara let out a soft laugh and set the kitten down on the console, where it immediately started to purr and rub against the console. The TARDIS started to hum and chortle happily. Clara grinned, and the Doctor chuckled.
"She likes the cat too." he murmured. Clara nodded and they resumed their previous position, except this time there was nothing to stop their lips meeting.
Needless to say, the Doctor, Clara, Kitty, and the TARDIS made one big happy family.
