Hermione was still shocked when she came to the compartment in which Harry, Ron and Ginny were sitting. Ron noticed her face. "What's wrong Hermione? You look as if you came face to face with a Blast-Ended Skrewt!" Harry and Ginny turned towards her. "Well…." Hermione began but she had not yet completely recovered. "ARE YOU GOING TO TELL US OR NOT?" this yell from Ginny woke her up completely. "Alright, alright." She told them all about it. No one spoke for a while. They were just staring at each other from shock.
Harry broke the silence. "Look. Either Hermione was day-dreaming or the whole Malfoy family have lizard eggs in their brains." "I was NOT day-dreaming!" Hermione cried indignantly. "That's it then." Harry concluded. "The Malfoys have lizard eggs in their brains." Ron joined in. "Nah Harry. They've always had eggs in their brains. It isn't anything new. They've just completely lost it now." It was Ginny's turn now. "I think the Malfoys are under the Imperius curse or something." They began to laugh and joke about it. Hermione was exasperated. "Alright. Enough fun, okay?" No one seemed to hear. "THAT'S ENOUGH!" Harry, Ron and Ginny turned to face a very angry Hermione. She was fuming. They all remained silent for a while.
Hermione calmed down at last. "Look," she started. The other three turned to look at her. "I don't think the Malfoys have eggs in their brains. I don't think they are under the Imperius curse." She said. "Well.. What do you think then?" Ron asked. "I think they've changed." At once, they began shouting.
"The Malfoys have changed? Go tell that to a madman."
"Yeah. A madman will certainly believe you."
"I still think there are eggs in their brains."
"I think we should take them to 's."
"You're right. We have to do this before Malfoy starts talking to us Gryffindors."
Hermione was getting more and more ferocious by the minute. She was going to shout at them all, but decided to keep her cool. "Quiet guys, Quiet!" Again, no one seemed to hear her. They were just babbling on their. Her decision to keep her cool was shattered to pieces. "SHUT UP!" Immediately, there was silence. No one moved a muscle. Hermione understood that this was the right way to quiet them. "I'm trying to be serious here! Stop making jokes and listen to me for once!" she shouted. She had expected them make some joke out of it and start laughing again. But the opposite happened. None of them spoke anything. Hermione continued. "I really do think that the Malfoys have changed. Their behavior today temporarily shocked me. It's completely abnormal for someone like the Malfoys to act so cordially towards The-Boy-Who-Lived, The Weasel and Weaselette and a Mudblood, as so lovingly calls us." Silence. Again.
The silence was broken by Harry again. "Sorry." He said. Ron and Ginny also apologized. Hermione had calmed down by then. "Look guys. I know all of you have seen this article in The Daily Prophet. I really do believe they have changed. The Malfoys are not people who apologize to people! Especially to people like us! Plus, Voldemort's dead now. They can now express their feelings clearly. I think that we should forgive them for everything that they have done in the past, as difficult as it is, and give them A CHANCE!" she exploded.
Harry spoke again. "You know Ron, I think Mione's right. Malfoy would never apologize to us. He wouldn't even acknowledge us. Moreover, he wouldn't even be wandering in a park where only muggles can be found. I think they have changed too."
Ron spoke next. "Sorry Hermione. You know how much we love to crack jokes on Malfoy. We just got carried away. I know you're right. We'll definitely give them a chance, that is, if they want it."
Ginny came next. "Yes. I agree with you Hermione. They really have changed. They would never acknowledge us and would never wave to someone who they thought was so below their blood status. No offence taken Hermione. We'll certainly give them a chance. We'll be civil with them as long as they're civil with us. Boys?" she nodded at them, looking at them for their approval.
"Of course we will." Came the reply.
Ginny then smiled at Hermione. Hermione smiled back. "I'm sorry guys." She said. "I shouldn't have flared up like that, but I just couldn't stop myself."
"Leave it." Harry said abruptly. "Let's just leave the topic of the Changed Malfoys and change into our robe shall we?" he said. "I expect we'll be arriving soon." He mimicked Hermione from their first year when she had first come into their compartment looking for Neville's toad. Ron laughed at that. Hermione laughed too, and hit both of them playfully. "I'll go get changed." She said and left. Harry and Ron continued laughing. "What am I missing?" Ginny asked. "Oh, Nothing. Go get changed." Ron said.
Ginny laughed at them and left to get changed too.
"Our last year at Hogwarts Ron." Harry said sadly.
"Yeah." Ron replied. "Better make the most of it. We'd better forgive Malfoy if he ever asks for it."
"We'll surely forgive him." Harry said.
"I hope they truly have changed." Ron said.
"Yeah yeah. Enough talk. Let's get change now, shall we?" Harry said.
"Okay."
Another exciting year at Hogwarts awaited them.
Hopefully, Hermione will meet Draco in the next chapter. Will update as soon as possible!
