Early morning, at Malfoy Manor….
"Lucius!" Narcissa shook her husband. "Wake up Lucius! I've got some interesting news from Pansy. Get up I say!"
Lucius grunted. "What is it, Cissy? Can't I have a good morning's sleep?" he asked, sitting up in bed.
"A good morning's sleep?" Narcissa asked. "Oh, never mind. Here. Read this." She said, pushing a letter into Lucius' hands.
"What's this?" he asked, rubbing his eyes.
"A letter from Pansy." Narcissa replied. "Read it, will you?"
"Hmm." Lucius said and started reading the letter. After he finished, he looked up, fully awake.
"Wow!" he exclaimed. "Just what we wanted! This is the best prophecy ever!" he said in joy.
Narcissa nodded. "I'm very much happy for them. And moreover, prophecies are not something simple. Draco and Hermione are really meant for each other. What I mean to say is that –"
"they will get together even if there was no such prophecy." Lucius finished.
"Exactly." Narcissa smiled. "I'll write Pansy a reply right away." She said and went away.
"Every prophecy has its own deep, inner meaning…." Lucius quoted. "Good, sweet, prophecy." he remarked. "Now finally, I can get back to my sleep." He said and closed his eyes. But he couldn't sleep. His excitement and happiness knew no bounds. He jumped out of bed and ran out to the garden and ran about like a little boy with his hands in the air.
Narcissa watched, amused. "This is probably the best thing that has ever happened in our lives." She decided, a tear making its way into her eye. "Draco deserves this, after all he's been through." She said to herself.
The next morning, there was deafening silence in the Head Dorms. They were all seated in the common room.
"I…" Hermione spoke up. "I'm sorry for my behaviour the previous night. I was just so… so shocked and I –"
"It's alright, Mione." Harry said. "We understand." He said.
Draco stood up and walked towards the door.
"Hey!" Blaise called. "Where are you going?" he asked.
"Breakfast." Came the reply.
"C'mon everyone!" Ron said. "Breakfast! Yay!" he cried and ran out.
Theo smacked his head and turned to Pansy. "I hope at least you can set him right. I can't bear him." he said.
"Stop it!" Pansy hit him on the arm.
They walked down to the Great Hall, Draco and Hermione both staring down at the floor. They all went and sat down at the table and eyed all the delicious food with delight. Theo and Blaise spotted Ron eyes on a plate of muffins. They nudged each other and smirked. Just as Ron was about to reach out for the plate, Theo put out his hand and snatched the plate.
"Theo!" Ron cried. "Give me that!"
"No, no!" Theo said.
"Please!?" Ron whined.
"No!" Theo said.
"Ron!" Blaise called, taking a muffin from the plate.
"Who loves muffins?" he asked, waving the muffin in front of Ron's face as the others laughed.
Ron's eyes followed every movement of the muffin. "R-Ron loves muffins." He said.
"Is it true?" Theo asked, making the others laugh even harder.
"Mhmm I do, I do, I do, I do-oooo" Ron replied, his mouth watering and his tongue hanging out like a dog's.
"You love muffins, don't you?" Blaise said. "It's pretty bad that you do, because you won't be getting any!" he said, crushing the muffin in his hand to bits.
"NO!" Ron yelled, attracting the attention of some of the teachers at the staff table. "Please don't destroy these nice, tasty muffins! Please don't!" he pleaded.
"Cool down, Ron. You'll make Professor McGonagall come here and hand us each a month's detentions." Theo said crossly and handed the plate to Ron. "Here you go." he said.
"Yay!" Ron said, happily stuffing 5 muffins at a time into his mouth.
Everyone shook their heads at Ron's childish behaviour while Pansy hit Ron on the head, who seemed to take no notice of it.
"Mione?" Harry asked.
"Huh?" Hermione asked, turning her gaze to Harry.
Harry looked as if he was about to say something serious, but then decided to drop it and said instead, "Pass me the Pumpkin juice, would you?"
Hermione eyed him strangely, but gave him the juice as well. "What were you going to say Harry?" she asked.
"What?" Harry asked fear suddenly enveloping him. If Hermione knew what he really wanted to ask, she would kill him.
"What did you want to ask me?" Hermione asked again.
"N-Nothing.." Harry said.
"Tell me Harry." She persisted.
"He wanted to ask why we weren't talking to each other." Said a smooth voice from beside Blaise. Everyone turned towards Draco, who was staring at Harry. "Am I right?" he asked.
"Y-Yeah… I.." Harry trailed off.
"Harry!" Hermione said as she turned away from Draco.
"You might as well as talk to him Hermione!" Harry burst out. "The two of you are meant to be together. Your moving away from each other will not affect this in anyway. Why are you not able to take this in a different way? Why can you not understand this?" he asked, panting.
"Harry I- I just- I… I…. can't" Hermione finished, looking down at her plate.
"Why not?" Harry pressed.
"You don't understand Harry." She sighed.
"What do I not understand?" Harry asked. "Look Hermione. Whether or not this prophecy would have been discovered, you and Draco would still have gotten together. I'll bet 10,000 galleons on this." He said.
"Are you sure you have all that money mate?" Blaise asked, butting in.
"Shut up Blaise." Theo said as they turned back their attention to the conversation at hand. But Harry decided to consider and answer Blaise's question.
"I don't know, and moreover, it won't even be necessary." He said, an odd twinkle shining in his eye.
"You know," Pansy said, turning to look at Draco. "You're the one who's usually arrogant and stupid in situations like these. How is it that you've been keeping calm?" she asked in curiosity.
Draco remained silent for a while. Then he said, "I decided that I would accept things as they were."
"See!" Ron burst out. "If Draco is able to think with a rational mind, then why can't you Mione?" he asked.
"But," Draco said. "That doesn't mean I can take in everything right now and start a relationship with her or something like that." He said.
"But –" Ron started, only to be cut off by Hermione.
"Please," Hermione said, her voice laced with exasperation. "Leave this topic Ronald. I beg you. I don't want to talk about this anymore." Just then, the bell rang and Hermione picked up her bag and ran off, leaving her friends staring after her.
"What do you think of this Draco?" Theo asked.
Draco stood up and slung his bag over his shoulder. "I think she's right. Let's just leave this topic and let things turn out as they like." He said with a tone of finality and walked off to the Potions classroom.
Harry sighed. "They're not even ready to talk about it!" he exclaimed as he joined the others on their walk to the classroom.
Ginny smiled. "They will." She said. "They just need some time to take in and accept all of this."
"Bloody hell…" Ron swore. "They're both as stubborn as each other. How are we gonna make them talk with each other?"
"It damn impossible." Blaise commented.
"We just need a plan…" Harry said, a smile making its way into his face.
