You lucky little things, you! Two updates in one week? I had already written this and had to post it, I couldn't wait any longer here you gooooo, enjoy and thanks to all of you who reviewed, favourited and followed!
Ruff and Astrid had been interrupted by a phone call from Tuff (and Snot, who had obviously gone to meet him after the bar had closed) to tell them the exciting gossip Snot had witnessed.
"What do you want, you ass hats?" She asks bitterly, the call had interrupted the film they had chosen.
"Guess who Snot saw kissing earlier!?" Tuff shouts excitedly.
"Who?" She replies with less enthusiasm than her strange twin.
"...Yeah, who?" Astrid adds, curious and a little worried.
"Heather and Hiccup! It was like a few months back when me and Tuff over heard what they were doing in the staff room that time!" Snot shouts excitedly. Ruff looks over at Astrids face as she looks a little pale and face palms.
"Way to go dumb asses, you just depressed Astrid, this shit is on speaker." She shouts back pointing as if they could see through the phone.
"Oh shit... Sorry As!" Tuff shouts sounding genuinely bummed out for her. Not that he even knew why.
"Wait why?" Snot asks.
"Her and Hiccup have somethinngggg—wait Astrid come back!" Ruff begins to explain but interrupts herself to shout after Astrid who just left her own house. "Shit, I'm gonna need to call you back, dick head." She says as she hangs up, she grabs her coat and runs after her friend.
Astrid had found refuge on a bench a few minutes from her house to clear her head. Surely he wouldn't do that... would he? I mean he did say they had history but it didn't sound like the good kind so maybe she forced him? She thought to herself, looking up as she heard the pants and slowing footsteps of Ruff.
"Shit girl you can run...I'm so...unfit...help me..." She gasped falling onto Astrid jokingly.
"Did they really..." she couldn't bring the right words to her lips, "do something in the staff room?" She asks in a voice that was so timid Ruff thought she had chased the wrong girl.
"Well... yeah but it was a long time ago. Yanno knew relationships... people get adventurous..." She answers, careful of what she says.
"Ah... okay..."
"Heather is crazy, she probably forced herself onto him earlier. Don't worry everything will be alright." She says in the calmest voice she has ever used.
"Yeah, I guess. Lets go back now."
Sunday had gone quickly as the pair had woken up around 2pm and had gone shopping so it reached the end of the day far quicker than it would of if Astrid had been alone. Thinking today was not an option.
Hiccup had text a few times and she had replied with minimal words to not make anything seem too off, he was clever enough to know what was wrong and left her to enjoy her day.
Later in the evening she was tiding her room and collecting bits of paperwork that had been scattered around as a distraction from her thoughts but she realised it might just be easier to sleep. And it was.
Astrid had spent all morning dancing at the college dance studio after a dreamless night. She danced pushing herself harder and harder, nothing helped to get rid of yesterday's sadness but it had now turned into anger. It was unusual for her considering she can normally escape reality for at least a few minutes when she practices.
She just couldn't get rid of the thought of Heather flirting with Hiccup. Kissing Hiccup. Her Hiccup. No, not hers...they'd just kissed a few times and shared some feels and she'd hinted...but...
Shouldn't that count for something? Obviously not in Heathers brain.
The sentence she had spat a few days before fills her head "didn't you steal my job and apparently my ex too."
She pushes her legs harder while thinking this and manages to land funny on her foot. She groans and sits back on the floor with a thud.
"Fuck!" She shouts to herself as she closes get eyes flings her head back to lie on the cold studio floor. A knock interrupts her break and she growls in response.
"Whaaaat?" She moans placing her slightly grubby hands on her face.
The door opens a bit and a nasally voice speaks up. "Erm...Astrid?"
"Hiccup?" Her surprised tone surprises them both.
"Are you okay?" He asks opening the door a bit more to walk in the studio sheepishly.
"Yeah, I'm fineeee." She answers unconvincingly.
"I-is this about Heather?"
"Maybe." She replies grumpily.
'Look you don't have to worry about her.' He mumbled leaning back on his heels with his hands in his pockets. 'Also...I've never seen you dance before.'
"Sureee I don't, I'd say you have some explaining to do and don't change the subject. You have."
"Astrid I—She is crazy. She thinks I want her more. I don't. At all. She split up with me in like... August. She is just jealous because she is one of those 'If I can't have you, no one can' kind of gals..." He explains, "Crazy bitch."
'Honestly I'm not sure I care right now... Moving on, how much did you see through the door?' She asks lifting her head to look at him.
'You leaped and fell so nothing really...is your foot okay?' She shrugs in reply.
'I need an opinion, do you want to watch?' She asks pushing herself off the ground with grace.
'S-sure.' He agrees, shit last time he saw her dance he got a little...over whelmed... She jogged to the iPod Dock next to where he stood and tapped the screen, the dock began blaring out a French song that Hiccup read as 'Papaoutai- Stromae'. She began to move to the soft intro and get more and more into it as the song progressed, throwing herself around, leaping and bending in ways he had only seen in strange art programs. The song did its last few bars as she repeated some pirouettes and finished in a somewhat beautiful organised heap on the floor.
'Astrid...that was incredible, I knew you could dance but not like that.' Hiccup cheered walking towards her and offering her a hand to stand.
'Thanks, that means a lot to me.' She smiles, while smoothing her hair back into place.
'So what was the bit that made you fall before?' He asks, intrigued as the dance she just performed was flawless.
'Oh, it was another dance... Have you ever heard of a guy named Troye Sivan?' She replies walking to her iPod Dock and water bottle.
'No, why?'
'Ahh a friend made a mash up of two of his songs and I was choreographing a dance for it, they are both amazing songs so I had to do it.' She explains scrolling through her song list and playing 'Touch- Troye Sivan then once it had finished she played the other, 'Happy little pill'.
'Wow please tell me when you need to show someone. Hey, when you're finished today we could grab some food if you like?' He offers, shrugging a little but smiling when she nods.
They ended up at a burger place near to the college and the dance conversation had continued.
'So what's your favourite song you've ever danced to?' He asked engrossed in their conversation, a half eaten burger in his hand.
'Ahh I think it has to be the one I showed you earlier, the French one oooor one I did last year for my final exam to Delilah's song 'Go'. Have you heard it?' She explains, pulling out her iPod just in case his answers no, ready to show him the song.
'I've heard that actually, so considering you danced to that and to a French song do you even have a favourite music genre?' He intently asks taking her iPod from her hands and scrolling through the seemingly bottomless list.
"Eh, not really. I love almost everything." She shrugs taking a bite of her burger.
"Astrid... are you okay? You've seemed a little off all day?" He asks showing genuine concern on his lightly freckled face.
"Ahh I've known Heather two days and the bitch already knows how to get to me." She growls poking the remains of her burger.
"Don't let her get to you, she's just known me a long time. She will say anything and everything. Just ignore her."
"How long have you known her?" Astrid asks looking him in the eyes.
"Couple of years, went to school together. Ended up together because she was being nice to me, I was far too quiet not to be picked on. I ended up growing up and she did too, she left me for another guy in August and now she takes an interest? Is she stupid? Oh noo it's just the gods hate me." He adds sarcastically making Astrid giggle a little bit.
"The gods hate you?" She enquires raising her eyebrows.
"Yes but there must be one that likes me, or I would have never of met you." He admits, not making eye contact.
"Yanno Hic', whether that was a joke or not that was one of the nicest things I've heard about me in months." Astrid says reaching for his chin to make him face her.
"It was serious, what do you mean by that though?" He asks quizzically.
"Ahh just something that happened before I left school where I used to live. Maybe I'll explain another time. Come on, we have Physics in a few minutes we should probably go.
The rest of that Monday passed in a blur, but all Hiccup could think of was what had happened to her before to make her say that.
Songs to give you a rough idea of how my brain is working:
