"Out, everyone!" Pansy said and went out herself, closing the door behind her, leaving and Draco and Hermione alone inside.
"Hey wait!" Ron said once they were outside. "We are going to eavesdrop, aren't we?" he asked.
Harry smirked, the twinkle in his eye shining brighter than ever.
"Of course." He answered as they settled down in a comfortable position in front of the door to listen.
Hermione stared down at the bed, refusing to meet Draco's eyes. Draco noticed this. He nervously sat down across from her, thinking what to say.
"What the heck are they doing in there?" Ron whispered to the others outside the door.
"Dunno mate." Theo whispered back. "They're not talking at all."
Harry was about to reply but was cut off when Draco's voice came floating through the door. They smirked at each other and put their ears to the door.
"I- I'm sorry Hermione." Draco said timidly.
Hermione just continued to stare down at the bed, not answering him.
"Hermione?" he tried again, his patience wavering a bit.
"Leave." She said simply.
"Huh?" Draco asked, baffled.
"Leave." She repeated. "I don't want to talk to you right now." She said firmly, not looking up at him still.
Those outside the door gasped.
"Hermione listen!" Draco said, his patience going down to 50%, but he still controlled himself for her sake. "I said I'm sorry!" he said.
Hermione finally met his eyes. "I don't accept your apology." She said.
"Alright listen." Draco said. "What do you say we just take a walk around the castle, discuss things, and calm you down?" he asked.
Hermione glared at him. "I said I don't wa –"
"Please." Draco said in a last, desperate attempt.
Hermione crossed her hands and huffed. "Fine." She said. "But after this, we're done." She said.
Draco sighed. "Thank you." he said. "Come on." He stood up and led the way.
Outside the door, Pansy shuffled into her robes for her wand and quickly cast a Disillusionment Charm upon them all. The door opened, and Draco walked out followed by Hermione.
"Where are all these people?" Draco wondered out loud.
"How would I know?" Hermione said crossly, glaring at Draco's back. "I was too busy crying, thanks to you."
"Oh, for God's sake!" Draco said, placing his hands on his head. "Would you please drop that? I've already apologized to you haven't I?" he asked.
"I didn't accept your apology, did I?" Hermione asked back.
Draco sighed. "Come on." He said, leading the way through the portrait hole.
Pansy and the others followed them, trying their best to muffle their footsteps. The corridors were deserted, not a student was about. Draco stopped walking and Hermione ran straight into him.
"What the –" Hermione cried.
Draco turned to face her. "Alright." He said. "Let's just get this over with. Tell me Hermione. What is your problem? You ignore me every day; you refuse to even look at me! Is this because of the prophecy, or is it something I have done? Tell me whatever you have in mind and please don't hide anything from me. Say out loud whatever is on your mind." He took a deep breath, and waited for her to begin.
Hermione seemed to be contemplating her words. "I…" she hesitated. "I was scared." She said quietly.
"Scared of what?" Draco asked.
"The prophecy, Draco." She replied. "I really, really like you." she said.
Draco's eyes grew wide at the confession, and those under the Disillusionment Charm smiled.
"But…." Hermione went on. "We've fought so much in the past, and you know that."
Draco nodded.
"And this prophecy literally says that we need to have a future together. I can't help but be afraid. How do you think we, out of all people can have a future together?" she said.
"But you get along with me just fine now!" Draco reasoned. "We argue, I agree. But those arguments have never been serious, have they?" he asked.
"You're right Draco." She said. "But still, I can't help feeling scared. We were arch enemies back in the past, and now, have a future together? How can that even be possible? What if we regret it later? What if- "
"Stop." Draco said. He met her eyes with such intensity that Hermione was forced to look into those silver pools.
"Do you like me?" Draco asked quietly.
"I- I do." Hermione admitted, looking down at the ground, a blush covering her cheeks.
Draco lifted her chin with one finger and once more, forced her to look up at him.
"Same here." He said, and walked away and turned the corner.
Hermione sighed. "I'll go find him." she murmured to herself and took off along the way he had just left, missing the giggles that sounded behind her.
She turned the corner to an empty corridor. "Draco?" she called. "Dra –"
All at once, she was pulled into a broom cupboard nearby. "What the- " she struggled, but her kidnapper held with immense force.
"Hush….." said a voice that she recognized at once.
"DRACO?!" she cried. "What are you doing?" she asked.
"Nothing." He said as he leaned down, and caught her lips.
Both felt it. "I've felt this before." They thought.
All of a sudden, the door was blasted open.
"OH MY GOD!" Hermione cried in shock.
Draco merely blinked to see who the freaking, stupid intruder was.
"Well, well, well!" Blaise said. "Look what we have here!" he exclaimed, his voice laced with amusement.
"What the – Blaise!" Draco yelled at his friend, who smirked back.
"Sorry, were we interrupting something?" Harry asked innocently.
"No! You weren't!" Draco said sarcastically.
"Really?" Theo asked.
"Idiots." Draco stated, glaring at everyone except Hermione, who was taking refuge behind Draco in embarrassment.
"It's alright Hermione." Ginny said.
"Yeah." Draco said. "It's not like we were caught doing something else."
Hermione's face turned red. "Shut up!" she shouted at him. "Why did you do that?" she asked him.
"Why did I do what?" Draco asked, trying to sound as innocent as possible.
"Why did you…. did you… kiss me?" she finished in a whisper.
"Because I wanted to." Draco replied simply.
"Aren't you even a little bit embarrassed that we were caught kissing in a broom cupboard?" she asked, her anger rising up to a sufficient level.
"No." he replied.
"What if a professor had found us?" she tried again, to make him accept defeat.
"We would have received detentions, that's all." He said as if it were obvious.
"Draco we're Head Boy and Girl! I don't think being caught in a compromising position by a professor would be respectful for us!" she retorted.
"I don't care." He said.
"Huh?" Hermione asked, not understanding his response.
"I don't care." He said again. "I'll have you then. I don't care about any Head Boy badge."
"Way to go mate!" Blaise said, clapping Draco on the back, but shut up when he saw Hermione glaring at him.
"Don't you care what other people think about you?" she asked him.
"I did, in the past." Draco replied. "I wanted them to think I was great, and worship me. It bothered me when someone failed to do that. But now, I've stopped that. I don't care what others think about me." He said.
"AAAAAAAAH!" Hermione yelled. "I've had enough of you and your annoying responses!" she cried and stomped away, leaving Draco flabbergasted.
"Whoa!" Ron said, completely astonished.
"What came over her?" Pansy asked.
"I was being too annoying…" Draco sighed.
"I agree." Ginny said. "If you continue with that, you'll make her say she hates you."
"I'll try my best to be less annoying." He replied, shoving his hands in his pocket.
"There you go. Again." Ginny said exasperatedly.
"Sorry."
"Come on, let's get back to the dorm and see how Hermione's doing." Ron said.
"Okay"
They walked back to the Head Dorms in silence.
Merlin. Draco thought. I could have been a bit more thoughtful. I just had her…and lost her. I don't think she'll ever even want to talk to me again.
"It'll be fine Draco." Blaise said, placing his arm around Draco's shoulders. Draco nodded.
"I hope so." he said.
