"WHAT ABOUT US!?"
Draco turned to see Theo, Harry and Ron(his mouth stuffed with 4 cookies) glaring at him incredulously. "Oh come on!" Draco said, laughing. "How could I leave you!?"
They gave each other a pat on their shoulders, and went up to Harry's room to try and complete their Transfiguration essay.
Everything was going well, and that was the way it had to be.
"McGonagall will have our heads if we make a mistake!"
"Oh shut up Weasel, we obviously do not have the book we need here and I don't have the bloody patience to walk to the library right now, and moreover, it would only make us late for Snape's detention."
"I wish you would stop calling me that." Ron sighed.
Draco smirked. "Remember the deal we made at the beginning Weasel?"
Ron sighed again. "Of course."
Draco widened his smirk and opened his mouth to make a comeback.
"Boys! It's time for the golden moment! Detention with Snape! Come on down!" Ginny's voice floated to them.
They all sighed. "It's only a matter of time before I shave off all of Snape's greasy hair while he's sleeping." Harry grumbled as they walked down the stairs.
The girls were ready and waiting.
"Are you girls elated to serve detention under Snivellus or what?" Blaise asked, irritated at their promptness.
"No, we just want to make sure that we are on time so that Snape doesn't dock points off of our houses." Ginny retorted.
"Alright, alright, people!" Theo said, deciding to play peacemaker. "Let's get going! I honestly do not want to write a 6 foot long essay for being late!"
"If it ever comes to that, I do believe that Mrs. Malfoy can be of great assistance." Blaise said, receiving a jab from Hermione the next instant.
"Hermione will never write our essays for us Blaise, if that's what you were expecting." Harry chuckled.
"Oh, I don't have to be told that!" Blaise laughed. "I was merely suggesting that she would surely help her sweet, caring, loving husband, and he, in turn, would show some compassion towards his friends."
"I doubt that Hermione would do even her favourite, McGonagall's homework if she gets any, let alone Draco Malfoy's." Ron said, laughing at old memories of Hermione chiding Harry and him for not completing their work.
"Oh, but I have my own ways of getting her to do it, I assure you!" Draco said, his lips forming a devilish smirk. "I'm sure I can work up a scheme to have Hermione do my work." He said, applying extra emphasis on "scheme", so that the others got his point.
"DRACO MALFOY!" Hermione almost screamed. "What in the world are you implying!?"
"I didn't think you were so dumb, wife."
"Ugh, Draco stop that!" Hermione said, silently smiling to herself. She was really happy at the fact that she and Draco were getting along wonderfully.
Ever since they had left the dorm, whispers, and pointing fingers had followed them until now. But Hermione and Draco found themselves oblivious to all of these, feeling content and happy with their friends and fun.
Draco opened his mouth to say something, but didn't have a chance, as at that moment, they found themselves outside Snape's office, the door wide open, and the Professor at his desk.
"Boy, I never even knew when we even got here!" Theo murmured under his breath, making sure that the Professor couldn't catch his words.
Professor Snape looked up from the papers he was grading. Without a word, he stood up and led them to the room where all the ingredients were kept.
"You are to arrange all of these serially." He said, pointing to the ingredients. "I want this job done quickly, so no lollygagging. I will be back after a while to check the work." With that, he left the room, his robes billowing after him.
"Snape's seems to be in form today." Harry commented.
"I suppose so." Ginny said, laughing.
They quickly divided the shelves among them, deliberately giving Hermione and Draco two adjacent ones, as Blaise and Theo took two others, with Harry and Ginny, and Ron and Pansy taking the rest. Half an hour of hard work followed. Everyone already felt tired, and was praying silently for some kind of break. As if answering their prayers, an owl came swooping in through the open window, and landed gracefully.
Pansy gave a little laugh. "From the regal mannerisms of that owl, I'd say it belonged to Narcissa."
"It is mother's." Draco confirmed. He walked forward to get the letter, but Blaise beat him to it. He quickly untied the letter and opened it.
"Blaise, I really do believe that was for me." Draco said, smiling slightly.
"Oh, that's alright mate." Blaise said, tearing open the envelope. "We're best friends, aren't we? I sure can open a letter of yours."
"Hmm, well al-" Draco started to say as Blaise began to read the letter out loud.
"Draco, I heard from Pansy all that has progressed at Hogwarts. I am extremely happy for you, son,-"
"Give me that letter!" Draco interrupted, trying to snatch it from Blaise.
"Nuh-uh!" Blaise said, dancing away from Draco, waving the letter behind him.
"Read it Blaise!" Pansy said excitedly. "I owled Narcissa the night we saw those memories regarding the prophecies. I want to hear what else it says!"
Draco finally gave up. "Have it your own way." He said, knowing that his friends would get their hands on the letter one way or the other.
"Now, that's a good boy!" Harry praised. "Go on, let's hear it!"
Blaise cleared his throat. "I am extremely happy for you, son. I want to tell you that sometimes, maybe you and Hermione will experience a few things because of the prophecy, and may also think that you only feel something for each other because of the prophecy, as it happens in many cases. Something of this nature may have even happened by this time, but let me tell you this, prophecy or not, you two are meant to be together. So don't let this get in your way.
I hope all the others are doing well. Good luck with your new start, Draco. Father also wishes you the best.
Mother."
"That's exactly what Professor Dumbledore said." Ginny said softly.
"Yeah.." Hermione said, a slight smile tugging at the corner of her lips and her cheeks turning a bright red.
"Someone's blushing!" Pansy teased.
"Oh, stop it Pans –"
At that point Snape swept into the room. Surveying them standing in a group, he remarked coldly, "Like I said, I want this work completed quickly. If you dunderheads don't get to work immediately, I will not hesitate in assigning a ten foot long essay to each of you for not serving detention properly."
"We- we're sorry, Sir." Hermione said.
Snape gave a curt nod of his head. "See to it that this is not repeated, or you will find yourself doing more than just writing ten foot long essays." With his robes billowing behind him, he left the room.
"Phew!" Theo said, flopping down onto a nearby chair. "I'm quite surprised that he let us off so easily."
"Maybe he's had a change of heart." Harry said, laughing.
"Or maybe he's in a 'good mood' today." Draco said, joining in.
"Well, whatever it is, we were damn lucky have gotten off so easily so I suggest we start working." Ginny said, walking up to her shelf.
"Oh alright," the boys conceded and started working on their assigned shelves.
As Hermione placed the jar of Dung Beetles in their place, she felt someone's hot breath on her neck.
"Draco..?" she asked softly.
"Mhmm." He said in reply.
"Everything's going wonderfully, isn't it?" she said.
"I never expected it." He admitted. "Things are turning out to be better than I thought they would. I'm really happy for us Hermione." He said, and she could feel his smile behind her.
"Me too, Draco." She said, smiling as well. "Me too."
"But I think we need to get back to work." She said.
Draco sighed. "Right." He said and stepped up beside her to put in a bottle of Dittany, and, to place a quick kiss on her cheek. Hermione smiled shyly in return and looked away quickly, trying to concentrate on her job.
Meanwhile, their friends, for once, were pretending that nothing had happened and let the two carry on, enjoying listening to their conversation and grinning happily to themselves.
After a lot of concentration and hard work, the job was finally completed. Professor Snape inspected the room.
"Good." He said with a curt nod of his head. "You may leave now."
Everyone sighed and left the professor's office, glad to get some rest. Just as they reached the dorm, they found two envelopes addressed to Draco and Hermione lying on the coffee table.
"Guess what Professor Dumbledore wants now." Hermione said, opening hers.
As they read their letters, Draco gave an exclamation. "But the ball is still months away!" he said exasperatedly.
"What ball?" Theo asked, interested.
"The Graduation Ceremony Ball." Hermione answered.
"Let me guess." Ron said. "Dumbledore wants to meet you two to help plan it?"
Draco nodded. "I always knew the man was a little weak in the head…." He murmured.
"Draco!" Hermione scolded. "We do not speak of the Headmaster that way!"
"Yeah, yeah whatever.." Draco replied nonchalantly.
"He wants us to come to his office tomorrow right after breakfast." Hermione noted, looking at her letter.
"Now that's a great idea, isn't it?!" Draco said happily. "We can skip most of Snapey's Potions class!"
Hermione sighed. "I feel bad about missing Potions." She said.
Everyone looked stunned.
"Only Hermione is capable of this atrocity!" Blaise exclaimed.
"Tell me Mione, HOW in the world can you be upset over missing Snape's class?!" Harry said, almost pulling at his hair in his excitement.
Hermione gave all her friends a well placed glare.
"I just want to make sure tha-" she began.
"Oh, never mind," Ron said, waving a hand. "We get it." He grinned.
"Fine." Hermione said, huffing. "I'll be going upstairs to do the rest of my homework now." She said and went up the stairway.
One by one, they all went off to do their respective jobs, and then, had a peaceful night's sleep until they heard Draco's cry for help in the middle of the night!
