A mound of disheveled hair rose as a singular ray of sunlight shone through the slightest opening between the curtains of the hotel room. With a sore body from her beating last night, Kaitlyn slowly lifted herself off the bed and ran a hand down to smooth her messy bed head. She rubbed at an eye as she looked behind her to find that the spot usually occupied by Roman was empty. Which was odd, Kaitlyn was always the first one up between the two. Her hazel eyes scanned the small room before coming to the conclusion that Roman was not in the room at all.
Her bare feet padded the ground as she step towards the bathroom, checking inside to see if Roman was in there but was only meet with darkness. She shrugged as she entered, taking a look at herself in the mirror before going along with her morning ritual. She couldn't help but wonder where Roman had wondered off to though. She was not worried. Roman had gone off on his own before, albeit it was rare when he did, but Kaitlyn had been through this before. Nine out of ten times Roman was in the gym with one of the boys and he had snuck out as not to awaken Kaitlyn. Other times he had just gone out for a walk to clear his head of things. And lately there's been plenty of things to be sorted out, especially now with the newest trouble for The Shield.
It wouldn't make Kaitlyn feel bad if it wasn't her fault again but it was. Someone was targeting her and they weren't owning up to their deed. Kaitlyn brought a hand to her face, wincing slightly at the bruise that had formed on it. She ran another hand over the fabric on her shirt before pressing down on random spots of her abdominal and wincing ever so often. The attacker had gotten her good and she knew this was going to hold her back a lot. A bitter feeling arose in her as she pulled her hair up into a ponytail before exiting the bathroom. The thought of not being able to wrestle for a while was one she didn't want to think of.
To escape that thought she finished in the bathroom and made it back to their bed before she reached for her phone to call Roman. She stopped when the door opened up quickly. She jumped slightly as the door banged the wall, nearly causing the doorknob to ram through it. Heavy footsteps were heard as Roman walked in, mumbling away at something as he pushed a hand through his hair. Kaitlyn arose slowly, smiling over at him.
"Good morning, Muscles." She greeted, grabbing the attention of the furious Samoan.
"Morning." He grumbled at her as he threw his cellphone onto the bed and sat down. Kaitlyn sighed, hating to see Roman so upset and wondering when Roman would be at least kind of happy again. She sat down next to him and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"What's wrong, Ro?" She asked, leaning her head down to try and catch his attention.
He looked over at her, examining her face before speaking. "Does that hurt?" He asked, delicately taking her cheeks in his hand and examining the bruise. It was sweet but Kaitlyn didn't want this right now; she wanted to know what was wrong with him.
"Kind of." She answered as she placed her hands over his. "But, I don't want to talk about that. I want to know what's wrong with you."
Roman let out a soft breath before shaking his head. A quick aura of defeat surrounded him as he shrugged. "Apparently everything, at least to Jessica." He took his hands off of her face as he looked down at his lap. "She called to make this battle official…she sounded like she was gloating about winning and keeping Alliyah to herself. She said I was a horrible father because I was always on the road."
Roman looked up at the ceiling, shaking his head before continuing to speak. "I always thought I was a good father, ya know? I couldn't be around but I stopped by when I could and I took her when I could. But…I missed so many things. Her ballet recital, her fourth birthday, her time at Sesame Place and who knows what else I'll miss…"
Kaitlyn's eyebrows furrowed. "No! You're an amazing father! You're constantly calling her and skyping her. And you visit in almost all your free time; you're an amazing father and you'll win this battle." Kaitlyn spoke with determination. She didn't want Roman thinking he was a horrible dad.
"I don't know…" He muttered, his eyes landing on hers. She tried to smile at him but his eyes downcast before she can even think about it. His hand rubs over his face before he continues to speak. "I should just let Jessica have her…she'd be better off."
Kaitlyn rose with those words, a sudden wave of emotion hitting her. "Better off?" She asked, catching his attention at how sharp her tone was. "Are you implying that a little girl would be better off without her dad?"
"I'm never around anyways Kait—" Roman was cut off by Kaitlyn smacking his arm. He rubbed at it as his arm stung, his face in pure shock.
"I can't believe you, Roman! I can't believe what you're saying! Do you know how much I would've killed to have a father in my life? A loving strong father figure like you? Do you want to know what being fatherless is like? It sucks! I love my mother and she did great but I still would see little daddy princesses walking hand-in-hand with their dads and I'd wonder what the hell that felt like." Kaitlyn felt her eyes burning as she spoke but she couldn't stop; she had to tell Roman that his decision to leave his daughter was so idiotically infuriating. "I wanted to know what it was like to have someone to celebrate on father's day and have a man there to hold you close and tell you that daddy's got it covered. But I don't…and I just can't imagine the girls who do know what that feels like but got it selfishly ripped from them because daddy couldn't step up." Kaitlyn paused at those words, wanting the full effect of her emotions to sink into him. "…Don't give up, Ro. Alliyah needs you."
Roman stood slowly and Kaitlyn couldn't tell if her words struck the man at all at first, but as he grabbed her hand in his and brought them up to his lips she had a feeling they had. "I won't give up. I'm just freaking out, I'm…fuck, I'm scared as hell." He admitted, bringing her hands down. "But I won't give up on Alliyah. She deserves me."
Kaitlyn smiled slightly, letting go of his hands before wrapping her arms around his torso and hugging him close to her. "I'll be here for you all of the way."
"Thank you." He muttered as he buried his face onto the top of her head.
"No problem, Ro."
"Do you really have to follow me all day?" Kaitlyn groaned, turning around to face Seth who was on 'Ass and Tits Watch Duty' as Dean so caringly dubbed it.
"Yeah! Gotta make sure no one tries anything funny." Seth answered, crossing his arms as he looked around them. Kaitlyn appreciated what they were doing for her but it only made her feel even more on edge. Maybe because the boys had glared at everyone she passed by like they were the criminal.
Kaitlyn had entered the arena very much a mess. She had walked closely by Roman and kept darting her eyes around, making longer contact with the Divas and immediately feeling guilty about it afterwards. They were her friends, right? They wouldn't hurt her right?
"I just want to breathe…" She muttered at his answer, turning around to continue walking towards catering. Seth didn't respond, only walked with her. She could only assume Seth was glaring down anyone they passed and she had to fight off an urge to apologize as he did it.
"Kaitlyn!" A voice called out. Kaitlyn went to look towards it but her view was obscured as Seth pushed her behind him.
"What do you want?" Kaitlyn heard Seth question at, well, Kaitlyn didn't know who he was speaking to because he wouldn't move! Kaitlyn tried to tippy toe as she saw a strand of black hair whip back as the person reacted.
"Excuse me?" The person sassed and Kaitlyn instantly knew who it was. Naomi. "I'm here to talk to my friend. Why are you questioning me?"
"Friend? So she's your friend?" Seth asked, leaning down to her face level. The motion was enough for Kaitlyn to see Naomi's face and she could tell she was far from enjoying his interrogation.
"Yeah she is." Naomi answered, placing a hand on her hip.
"And that's why you're always eyeing her belt—"
"Listen here, Cruella de Vil-"
Kaitlyn cut through, pushing Seth to the side. "Okay, you're done Seth!" She looked at Naomi with apologetic eyes. "I'm sorry about him he's just being extra protective."
Naomi glared over at Seth who was righting himself up before looking over at Kaitlyn. "It's okay…I get it especially with what happened to you yesterday. Are you okay, by the way?"
Kaitlyn nodded. "Yeah. I've got some bruises but I'm still moving!"
"I'm happy to see they didn't knock you down, girl." Naomi crossed her arms as her eyebrows furrowed. "Did you get a look at who attacked you?"
"No. They had a hoodie on with a bandana covering their face; plus I was getting my face rammed onto a wall so even if they didn't have that on I wouldn't have gotten a good look anyways." Kaitlyn answered.
"We'll figure out who it was though." Seth interjected, catching the attention of both of the Divas. "We'll interrogate every Diva in this building if we have to."
"Starting with me, huh?" Naomi asked. "And either way, how do you know it was a Diva for sure?"
Seth shrugged. "Kaitlyn is the Diva's Champion. A Superstar wouldn't be going for that unless it was Santino's "sister" Santina."
"Unless a Superstar is trying to get on a Diva's good graces then maybe they'll do her dirty work or something." Naomi shrugged, looking over at Kaitlyn. "Either way, whoever this person is needs to step up and stop being a…excuse my French, a pussy."
Kaitlyn smiled at that as she nodded. Naomi rarely ever cursed. "You're right. I can't wait to get my hands on them, male or female I don't care I'm going to spear the crap out of them."
"If you need someone to help with a nice rear end, I've got you girl." Naomi joked lightly, causing Kaitlyn to smile. Naomi always had a way with making tough situations better and she really liked that about the woman. Naomi was shaping up to be one of Kaitlyn's close friends that weren't The Shield and she was really happy about that.
"Thank you, 'Omi." Kaitlyn smiled, placing a hand on her friend's shoulder.
"No problem, Kait." Naomi smiled back. "Anyways, I'd like to stand around and chat with you but I have to go find Cameron. That girl is always running around the damn arena doing god knows what."
"You know, I think we passed by her…she was talking to Damien I think?" Kaitlyn shrugged, not really remembering.
"Alright, I guess I'll go find…Damien? …Okay." Naomi raised her eyebrows at the thought of Cameron talking to Damien of all people. The questioning look quickly left her face though, as she turned to Seth and pointed a finger to him. "If you ever imply that I would do something as petty as secretly attack Kaitlyn ever again, I'll show you just how wrong you are by attacking you in broad daylight without hidin' anything."
"Hiding nothing? I don't think Jimmy would like that." Seth joked with a careful smile.
"Funny." Naomi's voice did not match the comment she just made. She turned to Kaitlyn once more with a smile. "See you around and be careful."
Seth and Kaitlyn watched as Naomi left, waiting until she turned around the corner before Kaitlyn turned around to Seth. "Well she seems to like you." Kaitlyn said with a smirk.
"I honestly think I did nothing wrong." Seth shrugged, pushing at Kaitlyn's arm as he tried to walk forward with her. "Let's get to the locker room."
The rest of Smackdown ran smoothly. Kaitlyn stood by the sides of Roman, Dean and Seth despite her protesting but she figured it was all for the best because no one had bothered her. There was no surprise attacks, no odd confrontations and people generally kept to themselves. Of course, there were a few that asked her, or well tried to ask her, of the attack but they were harmless and seemed generally concerned. So concerned that she couldn't imagine who in the hell attacked her at all.
"What about Zack Ryder?" Dean cut in, slipping his head into his t-shirt that Kaitlyn was sure he's been wearing for 3 weeks straight now. "Hear me out! Zack likes to get the chicks so maybe, I don't know, a Diva worked her vagina magic and got him to do their dirty work."
"You really think Zack is smart enough to disguise himself?" Roman asked with a skeptic tone.
"Dolph Ziggler?" Seth questioned, looking around at his teammates.
"He's my ex and we left on good terms, I don't think he'd do this." Kaitlyn spoke. "He didn't attack me once when AJ was trying to get at me and anyways he likes attention. He wouldn't hide behind anything during an attack."
"Then who the hell could it be?" Roman nearly growled, growing more frustrated at every minute passing by without the knowledge of who attacked his girl.
"We don't know!" Dean exclaimed. "And we're not going to know like this!"
"What do you mean?" Kaitlyn inquired.
"I mean, the only way we're going to know is if we catch the person as they're about to attack Kaitlyn." Dean answered, shrugging on his leather jacket. "Look, we were with you all day right? So maybe the person decided to lay low. But if we just followed her in a safe distance, enough where the person thinks she's alone, then we can catch them when they spring at, Ass-N-Tits."
"That's actually not a bad idea…" Seth said, looking over at Kaitlyn.
Kaitlyn shrugged. "I think you're right. People kept away from me all day because of you three. Maybe I just need to be alone for you guys to catch them—"
"No." Roman's voice interrupted. "I'm not gonna have Kaitlyn vulnerable out there."
"She'll only look vulnerable." Dean mused. "We'll be around the corner, ready to strike."
"I want the person to know I'm ready to strike."
"Roman." Kaitlyn walked over to him, placing a hand on his chest. "Don't worry, okay? They're right. With you guys around, especially you, the person must be scared shitless. Especially if this person is a Diva, they can handle another girl but they can't handle three guys. I have faith in this plan and you you should too."
Roman mulled over her words. Kaitlyn could tell by the clenching of his jaw that he didn't necessarily like where this was going but his lack of a response proves that he knows that he'll have to accept it. Kaitlyn smiled slightly. She rose on her tippy toes and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
"Don't worry, okay? I'm a big bad girl who can take them on until you guys swoop in."
Roman nodded. "Fine. Okay fine."
"Alright." Dean clapped his hand together. "Then it's settled. At RAW we'll ghost around Kaitlyn until the person reveals themselves. We'll be like fuckin' ninjas."
"Which is no problem for me." Seth grinned. "I'm like, a certified ninja."
Kaitlyn grinned at Seth's words before turning back to Roman. "I'll be fine, alright Big Guy?"
Roman looked at her with a half-smile. "You better be, Big Bad Girl."
