Lecture Hall. Atlantia.
In the Lecture Hall the highest ranking within the SGC had once again gathered in a short time, on the podium at the front was Samantha Carter.
"Listen up, since the last of the Ba'al clones got his symbiot extracted the Tok'ra have been searching for any Goa'uld's which might have escaped the crusade we've lead against them. They haven't found any traces of them since then, but as you've probably heard by now there was a skirmish three days ago between SGC personnel and Goa'uld forces, since then we've been analysing a database we captured during that skirmish, in that skirmish we also managed to rescue three people which have provided us with much information.
After much work we've managed to establish that there's at least two more Goa'uld in existence, one of them most of you should be familiar with, its name is Ba'al, the other is a Goa'uld which we've never encountered before, it's name is Nephtys, she's suppose to be some sort of death god of the Egyptian mythology and also the mother of Anubis, of course not everything the old Egypt's wrote down might be correct, but this Goa'uld is apparently one of the oldest ones and she also uses really old technology, possibly the earliest pieces of Goa'uld technology which where made using Ancient technology, which might suggest some truth behind the stories, either way she's got a cross-hair on her back.
These two are also the last names on Daniels list of the old Egyptian gods who might have been Goa'uld, so far every Goa'uld we've encountered has been found in their mythology in one way or another, this means that if we manage to kill these Goa'uld there's a good chance that we can finally extinct the Goa'uld once and for all.
The plan we've come up with involves all of you, we need to strike at the same time against all planets in their control, as we're speaking automated probes are racing towards all of the planets which we've found evidence of having Goa'uld activity, hopefully most of these planets won't be guarded by ships as they are minor planets in, which case we may simply send through a portable shield to block the DHD, doing that will stop them from dialling out, the planets which have guarding ships will have ships sent there to take care of them, against Nephtys ships we will send on ship for every twenty that the enemy has, but a minimum of two ships for safety, to Ba'al's planets we'll send one ship for every five they have but a minimum of three ships, if any ship leaves the planet a second probe will be following closely behind in the hope that we can find additional systems.
While the ships are being cleared from the planet a task-force will be sent to the planet to capture the stargate in anticipation for an army of four brigades to move in and clean out the planet, the task-forces will work in pairs to keep the gates occupied, after capturing the gate they'll attach a device to the DHD that will dial back the moment a stargate is deactivated, leaving a gap of only a nanosecond for the enemy to dial in.
On the screens in front of you there's information about your assignments as well as that of your men, make sure everyone gets their orders, cause their friends will be going through the gate with or without them. As I'm sure you understand the gate on Atlantis will be sending people constantly, so we'll begin to ship out the soldiers tonight to other planets make sure everyone gets there on time, using both the gate and ships. We expect all of you to be there on time.
Dismissed."
After the mission briefing Sam got of the podium and hurried away, soon she was going to lead the largest operation ever attempted by the SGC, while the mission to retake the repair ship had been massive it still had only been two brigades if both soldiers and androids where counted, less than one percent of the military personnel within the SGC, this time around two hundred brigades would be deployed to make sure that it didn't take to long, of course reserve troops would be standing by in case an army needed extra support or if a brigade needed to be replaced.
Also since the minor disaster on the repair ship the androids had been taken of active duty while the science division tried to fix the security hole which had allowed the Ancient AI to hack them, this meant that no androids would participate in the assault, except for a few which had gotten prototype programming, these would be placed under the command of soldiers who had requested androids to be placed under their command, the prototype programming meant that they would be able to receive orders from visual input or voice command from their direct commanding officer, that way a single person had access to the unit at any given time thereby limiting the number of accesses to the system, these androids would however only be used against Ba'al, since he was known to be good with technology, so by sending these against Ba'al they would give the security system a good challenge.
But what worried Sam the most was the spear they would drive into the heart of the Goa'uld, she would be at the tip of the spear as well as the hand guiding it, that was not the problem however as SG-1 had done so many times before in a much smaller scale, the problem was that Jack wouldn't be there to save her when things when to hell, instead she'd have to be the one to save everyone else if something went wrong.
But all that doubt in herself was swept away when she arrived on a balcony which overlooked the area between Atlantia and Atlantis, there she could see the soldiers which would be moved within a few hours flowing out of both cities to rendezvous with their brigades, there she could see thousands of brave men and women who would do their best to end the threat of the Goa'uld once and for all, there she could see the future hope for mankind throughout the galaxy and the universe, there she could see the soldiers who would share her burden, there she could see people who would do everything they could to see this mission through and that eased her mind to some degree.
Ten floors bellow a different scene was playing out.
Daniel and Janet's apartment. Atlantia.
"Daddy, why must you go away now?" Claire asked her dad who was holding both her and her mother in his arms as they sat in front of the TV on a couch.
"To make sure that no other girl has to suffer the same way you and your mother did." Daniel said as he stroke a tear from her cheek.
"But daddy will return as soon as he's done." Janet said to her daughter.
"I came for you sweetheart without knowing that you even existed, of course I'll return now that I know about my beautiful daughter." Daniel said.
"Now go to bed honey, tomorrow is your first day school here in Atlantia so you'll need to get a good nights sleep." Janet said as she got of the couch.
"Ok. Good night dad." Claire said as she followed her mother into her own room.
"Good night sweetheart." Daniel said as his daughter left the room.
After his daughter and his beloved had left the room he looked around inside it, there was the TV, a new kind which could show 2D, 3D and holograms, there was the couch they had just used, a console with middle level clearance and that was it, the apartment had been assigned to Janet and Claire so that they could adjust to their new surroundings and the new people at their own pace while having a place to retreat to if they needed solitude, solitude was however not what Janet had in mind, at least not if that meant that Daniel wouldn't be around their daughter and her, so without further discussion she'd dragged Daniel inside her bedroom and fastened him to the bed using straps she'd borrowed from an old sickbed, before she ran of to Daniel's quarters to get the stuff he needed to stay at her place. Essentially she kidnapped him and held him hostage by making sure he returned to her apartment every night.
The four doors in the living-room lead to Claire's bedroom, the hallway, the kitchen and Daniel and Janet's bedroom, in Claire's room there was a bed, a console with low level clearance and a bathroom, in the kitchen there was a table with four chairs, a food machine which would either beam in or synthesize the food depending on what was available and the guest bathroom, in Janet and Daniel's bedroom there was a bed, a closet and a locker for Daniel's armour, this spartan décor of the apartment came from the short time that it had been used and over time more things would surely finds its way into the apartment, Daniel's things included.
As he looked around the apartment he felt strange inside, a feeling of not belonging there, his own apartment was so different, it so much smaller than this one and it was filled from the floor all the way to the roof with artefacts, writings or something else which came from other civilizations, but this was the exact opposite, but all those thoughts where wiped away when Janet returned to the living room an hour later.
"She's asleep now. Time for us to get ready too." Janet said as she walked up to him and gave him a kiss before walking into their bedroom.
But when Daniel tried to follow he found the door to be locked, but after a few minutes of trying to override the lock he found himself staring at Janet who opened the door from the other side, but rather than the regular uniform she was wearing a black outfit which didn't leave much to the imagination, in fact it covered about two square decimetres of her body.
The effect it had on Daniel was greater than that of any stun weapon that had been tested on him and while he was standing there, almost drooling with his tong out, she pulled him inside and locked the door behind them, she then pushed him onto the bed.
"If you want this." She said while drawing her hands down her body. "you'll have to promise that you'll stay with me and Claire no matter what, she needs a dad who will always love and care for her and I need a man who will do that for her and me. Are you that man Daniel?"
"If you want me to be that man then I will be that man honey." Daniel said as he got of the bed and kneeled in front of her.
"Then get of your knees or are you planing on starting down there?"
"Before I get of my knee I have to ask you something, you want me to be Claire's father and your man, but I don't want that, I want to be Claire's dad and your husband. So Doctor Janet Fraiser, the Napoleonic power monger, will you become my wife?" Daniel said and held out two identical rings, each creating an advanced golden and platinum pattern of strings as they completed the circle and between some of the threads several gems had been fastened, on the outside the three face of the apartments inhabitants could be seen and on the inside their names where engraved.
"Of course Daniel. This is further than I've dreamt about us going." Janet said as Daniel got up from his feet and slid the ring onto her finger.
When both rings had been placed accordingly Janet and Daniel quickly removed what little cloth Janet was wearing as well as Daniel's uniform before the two landed upon the bed.
Bridge. Daniel's Command ship. P3X-256.
As the ship dropped out of hyperspace above Ba'al's homeworld Daniel was faced with the sixty upgraded Ha'taks and the two Anubis motherships which the probe had detected as well as several hundred gliders and six dozen Al'kesh which came from the surface, but coming out just a few seconds behind him where a fleet of fifteen ships, four command class, five 304's five 305's and one 306, the arrival of these ships made the Goa'uld ships which had begun approaching Daniel's ship pull back.
For a few moments the two sides simply stood there, then Daniel's ship received the signal that the planets stargate had been secured and so the both fleets launched their assaults at the same time, the Al'keshs and gliders turned around and begun to return to the surface, most likely to assist the Jaffa there, while the Ha'taks and motherships approached the attacking fleet with their plasma cannons working overtime shooting of volley after volley of orange plasma, while the Goa'uld fleet was doing that the 307 of Tau'ri fleet broke formation and descended towards the surface of the planet while deploying fighters to chase down the gliders and Al'kesh, meanwhile the rest of the fleet opened up with rail guns, plasma beams and drones.
At first the Ha'taks shields seemed to absorb the plasma beams and the drones and rail guns shoots exploded upon impact, but then the shields gave up and their hulls followed the shields moments after, it only took the Tau'ri fleet five minutes to clear away all of the Ha'taks, but still the motherships where standing their ground without any signs of their shields weakening.
"Why are those ships still there?" Daniel asked his weapons officer.
"Sir their shields appear to still be working, but their weapons have stopped firing, it's possible that we've destroyed their weapons." The weapons officer reported.
In truth the weapons had stopped firing because all energy the ships reactor could muster was being diverted to the shields to keep them from failing, cause while Ancient shields could maintain their strength as long as there was power the reactor could only create so much power at any given time in contrast to ZPMs which could give of all of it power if needed but instead was limited in the amount of power it could provide.
"Have the fleet focus their fire on a single vessel." Daniel ordered.
"Yes sir." The communications officer replied as he relayed the orders to the rest of the fleet.
A few seconds later the weapons of the entire Tau'ri fleet turned against one of the motherships and only five seconds later the ship exploded into hundreds of pieces, but not directly through the actions of the Tau'ri fleet, instead it was the actions of a Jaffa who tried to increase the output of the reactor just a little, which caused the reactor to go into meltdown and before the shield had even disappeared the ship exploded, but as it did so its own shield stopped the shock wave before it could get anywhere, ten seconds later the second mothership was destroyed as it tried to enter hyperspace but was overwhelmed by the Tau'ri fleets weapons.
While the two fleets had been battling it out over the planet the 307 had chased down the gliders and the Al'kesh using its rail guns and fighters, by the time the last of the gliders had been eliminated the 307 was hovering just over three hundred meters above the ground, when its task was done the 307 begun to rise towards the rest of its fleet, but while it was doing so the much faster fighters it had been carrying begun to assists the newly arrived army, then they broke of landed on the carrier just a minute before it and the rest of the fleet jumped away to assist another army which needed help with breaching a shield on a well defended planet.
But just before the fleet jumped away six jumpers and twelve combat jumpers where launched and when the fleet was gone they made their way to the planet, when they reached the ground the jumpers landed and the soldiers in the back rushed out before they took of again to assist in the battle by bombarding the enemy from above.
As he left the back of the jumper which he'd been carried down in Daniel was greeted by Mitchell.
"Welcome to the front Daniel, your fighters made quite the dent in the enemies ranks." Mitchell said.
"Thanks, how's it looking?" Daniel asked.
"We're pushing back the enemy fast and soon our tanks will be coming through the gate."
"Good, now lead the way to the front, I didn't come half a galaxy for a status report."
"This way." Michell said as he ran of with Daniel closely behind.
A minute later the two arrived at the front where the two armies where fighting each other, on one side where the Tau'ri army which had just finished of the last of the Jaffa and was now facing the mighty walls of the fortress the enemy had built, on top of those walls a staff cannon defended by a shield could be found every four meter.
After a few attempts at storming the walls which ended with several soldiers losing their shields the Tau'ri army fell back out of range of the cannons and waited, thirty minutes later their waiting stopped as the Hydras arrived and begun to advance on the walls with devastating result, only a minute after their arrivals the Hydras had managed to take down the cannons on one wall as well as blowing some rather large chunks out of the wall it self, they then split up and headed down along both of the other walls.
When the tanks moved on the soldiers resumed their assault with Daniel and Mitchell at the front, by the time they reached the wall several heavies had gotten within weapon range and opened up with their rocket launcher on the wall which created a nice hole straight through the wall, once inside the walls they faced surprisingly little resistance until they reached the a building which stood in the centre of the fortress and had a few meters of open space around it.
On the roof of the buildings several cannons swung around from all over the roof, then as Daniel took a single step onto the open surface they all opened up on him, thankfully he was able to jump out of the way before more than three hit him, standing behind the cover of a wall Daniel could see the shield above which kept the jumpers out sparkling as they opened up with different weapons.
"Mitchell see if you can find the generator or the emitter which powers the shield that keeps the jumpers out, with any luck it's outside the main building."
"I'll see what I can do." Mitchell said as he sneaked away from Daniel, bringing a platoon with him.
An hour later the shield above disappeared just as the cannons on the roof exploded, ceasing the chance Daniel charged over the open ground with the soldiers closely behind, when they reached the entrance they found it to be completely black, but they pressed on slowly and after a minute or two Mitchell caught up with them.
"I see you managed to find the generator." Daniel said.
"No, but we short circuited one of the cannons, looks like it overloaded something." Mitchell answered.
"Good work, now lets find Ba'al and end this." Daniel said as they hurried on.
After many twisting corridors and a few Jaffa they arrived in what was the heart of the fortress, both a throne room and a control centre, sitting in the middle of the room was a man the knew all to well, Ba'al, and running around him where Jaffa, who took up defensive positions around the room, and slaves, who tried to find a place to hide.
"I guess it was to much to ask that you would give me some more time before you come rushing into my palace?" Ba'al asked from his throne.
"You know us Ba'al, as long as you still live we'll always crash your parties." Mitchell answered.
"And as long as you hurt our friends we'll hunt you down." Daniel said.
"And which of your friends might that be?"
"Vala."
"Oh, yes, she was quite lively that one, it was to bad I traded her for a few Jaffa to clone." Ba'al said amused.
"You traded her for a few Jaffa?" Daniel asked.
"Yes, I needed something to begin cloning with."
"Why clone them, you must still have had an army of Jaffa."
"No, when you extracted the symbiot from me my empire fell, not a single Jaffa followed me after that."
"But if we extracted you from your host then you shouldn't be alive."
"You still haven't figured it out Daniel? The cloning technology we used was never meant for the Goa'uld, it was meant for humanoids, so when we where cloned the mind of the Goa'uld where transferred to the human brain. So technically I'm no more Goa'uld then you are Daniel."
"Is that what the original Ba'al told you? Ancient cloning technology works on any species, but I take it he never showed you the equipment?"
"That liar, I should have killed him myself."
"Let me take care of that for you."Daniel said as he levelled his PP-90 and fired against Ba'al, not surprisingly a shield appeared around him, but when Daniel had begun to fire the rest of the troops inside room did the same but against the Jaffa, all except one, Mitchell, who instead rolled a grenade through the shield when it hit the throne it exploded, completely vaporising Ba'al and his throne.
It didn't take more than a minute before all of the Jaffa had been killed too and then the work of cleaning out what little resistance remained begun, but on a planet several hundred light years away the battle was only just beginning.
P3X-350
Not surprisingly the capital of Nepthys was heavily fortified, more so than even Ba'als, but that was not the work of the current inhabitants but instead the work of the city's builder, the Ancients, unlike other Ancient cities the gate had not been placed inside the city, so when Sam and Teal'c arrived through it they found themselves overlooking the city from a cliff with a path leading down to the city, on that path the Unas had placed several barricades and emplacements to keep the attackers out, but the strike team which had captured the gate had reported it in and so a fleet was already on its way.
So two minutes after Sam and Teal'c had arrived through the gate ahead of the army the first of the emplacements disappeared in a beam of blue light which left a hole through the path which the duo jumped over just as the army begun to arrive through the gate, before long all of the emplacements had been removed through either plasma beams, beaming or drones, leaving large craters which the army had to jump over, but before long they reached the bottom of the cliff and was assaulted by the yellow energy beams clearly not of Goa'uld origin and in front of the turrets which shot the beams where a shield which encompassed the entire city.
In an effort to help the ground troops the fleet in orbit fired of several plasma beams at the shield which crackled upon impact, almost like it laughed.
So Sam opened a channel to the fleet above "Admiral I'd say that we're facing an Ancient shield to the kind used on Atlantis, try hitting it with a few drones and see what happens, if they make it through the shield I want them to hit the emitter or the power conduit which feeds the emitter."
A minute later twenty drones came rushing through the atmosphere like small kamikaze pilots, but upon reaching the shield they passed straight through and continued towards their targets inside the shield, on their way a few of them got hit by the turrets placed around the city, but the ones who made it to their targets created enough damage to weaken the shield to such a degree that the plasma beams which the fleet followed up with had enough power to continue through the shield and into the city itself, levelling an entire block but also creating an opening in the shield which now only encompassed three quarters of the city.
So through that opening the army rushed and once on the inside they quickly found cover between the houses from the turrets on the roofs, when they where sure that the entire army had made it through the opening they moved on into the city, taking out any Unas they came across in the process.
After an hour of slicing and shooting they arrived in the throne room of the Goa'uld who sat there, a very old and dried out woman.
"You know who I am? You dare disturb me?" She hissed.
"You are Nephtys, mother of Anubis." Teal'c answered.
"But I'm so much more than that, I'm the empresses of the Goa'uld. I'm the first queen." She continued to hiss while rising.
"That is not possible, Apep killed both of his parents."
"He thought he did, but I saw it coming and so he instead killed one of my other children. For thousands of years I worked in the shadows before my true son, Anubis, finally managed to kill him, but my traitorous children rose up against their brother and exiled him, so I breed a queen to oppose them. I was the first to take a host and I know that I'm the last of my species, now I guess it's time to move on from this world." She said as she walked down from the throne and removed her Kara kesh and golden robes.
"Indeed." Teal'c said as he lowered his staff and fired, leaving the woman with a large hole through the torso.
Control Room. Atlantia.
"Welcome back. I heard you got your hands on a really old Goa'uld." O'Neill said from the control room as Sam and Teal'c came up the stairs from the gate room.
"Yes, we hope she was the last one and she said so herself." Sam replied as the couple walked away from the control room while Teal'c walked the other way.
"Good work. Daniel and Mitchell have vaporised Ba'al, with any luck we got the last of the Goa'uld this time."
"Yes, but I'm glad I'm not in Elizabeth's shoes when she has to deliver the news to the Tok'ra."
"And why is that?"
"There's a slim chance that Nephtys was the mother of Egeria and that she breed Egeria just so that she would create a force which would oppose the Goa'uld, hence the Tok'ra would be a product of a Goa'uld plotting against another."
"Then I pray they don't know that, but just in case might I suggest that you have a platoon standing by in case she needs backup."
"She'll have eight of the best soldiers we have with her at all time, they can't touch her without her allowing it."
"Since we found this city there's been an increase in the number of deaths which we've been involved in, make sure the Tok'ra doesn't get their heads added to that."
"I fear things will only escalate over the coming years when the cyborgs arrive."
"That might be so, but that doesn't mean we have to use everything we see as target practice."
"Of course not sir."
Daniel and Janet's apartment. Atlantia.
"Hello." Daniel asked quietly as he entered the apartment.
"Daddy." Claire screamed as she heard her dad's voice and came running from the couch where her mother lay sleeping.
"Such, don't wake up your mother." Daniel said as he picked up his daughter and carried her into her room.
THE END
I guess that's it then, last one this year.
Please leave a review.
Happy new year.
