It had been a week now with no ambushes. But, how could there be? JoJo had been away working on NXT shows and for those few days she felt like she could breathe. She hung around Devin and Sasha a lot, and they made her forget about Eva and her problems. If anything, they had spent the time singing and laughing and training up some. Sasha was great help to JoJo and she had managed to work in what Seth had helped JoJo with. Altogether, it was a great week and she was kind of bummed to have it end. The only thing keeping her head up was Seth.
Seth. She thought fondly to herself. He had been texting her all week, asking her how she's been and keeping up conversation with her. She still felt the guilt in her when they'd speak but she had pushed it aside to enjoy their friendship or "flirtationship" as the girls down in NXT called it when JoJo had shown them her text. Hell, even Bayley had to agree that he was being "way way way friendly!" JoJo didn't see it, as far as she was concerned he was just being a friend. They had grown closer over their training sessions and this was just him being a bud.
JoJo's phone buzzed in her palm as she parked her car in the drive way of the Performance Center. She put her car in park before checking out the text. It was Seth.
"Are you here yet?"
JoJo smiled, quickly texting down her response of "yeah!" before making her way to the building. She felt guilty, being this excited to see him despite what she's been doing but the energy and emotions of her fellow NXT ladies rubbed off on her. She was feeling giddy despite denying all claims that he had any ounce of romantic interest in her. Because he didn't…maybe. Hold it together, girl. You're just here to train.
She opened the door, looking around and spotting Seth instantly. He was leaning on the ropes, a smile already on his face as JoJo waved to him bashfully. She had taken the liberty of already changing into her workout clothes before arriving so they could jump into training quickly.
"Hey, treasure troll." Seth greeted her with a smile.
"Treasure troll?" She scoffed out a laugh, touching her bunned hair. "I do not look like a treasure troll."
Seth shrugged. "Hey, take it as a compliment! Treasure trolls are kind of cute."
There it was. A comment like that. He was giving them to her often; calling her things that were 'kind of cute' or saying things like 'hey, cutie!' She had seen them as innocent, and she still did, but she couldn't help but wonder if they were. Oh no those girls are getting into her head…
Quickly trying to calm down the sudden wave of nerves that flooded into her, she nodded at his words. "Fine." She looked around the ring, deciding that this was a great way to steer clear from her thoughts. "So what are we doing today?"
Seth motioned up towards him, instantly causing her to walk into the ring. "We're starting off with the usual warm up, you know running the ropes and working on things like taking a fall and stuff. And then I was hoping on going over some basics with you, just to make sure you've got them down. Like the hip toss, rolls ups, basic submission and stuff like that."
JoJo nodded. "When will we get to the more complicated stuff?"
"Soon." Seth answered, setting himself up on the ropes adjacent to her. "I promise."
Nearly an hour had past and JoJo was already feeling the burn. Working with the ladies and some male wrestlers in NXT had really wiped her out, but she didn't want to take a break now. They had just finished practicing some roll ups and were now moving on to some hip tosses. This was pretty basic and JoJo knew she could handle something like this just fine; this was something she learned right away during Diva's training.
"Okay." Seth clasped his hands together, as he breathed in deeply. He always did the same amount of work JoJo did when they trained together; he deemed it as being the only fair thing to do. Plus, he had said something about feeling uncomfortable about being in the ring and not doing anything. "Let's get into roll ups. I don't have to explain right?"
JoJo shook her head. "I know. Grab their body and toss them over."
Seth nodded, preparing himself before looking at JoJo. "Alright flip me."
"Flip you?"
"Yeah."
JoJo bit her bottom lip. "I don't know if I can…"
Seth chuckled. "Come on, Offerman. I'll go easy on ya!"
"Alright, but just don't get mad when…" JoJo grabbed Seth's arm, performing a shaky but solid hip toss. "…I embarrass you." She smiled smugly at him. She watched as Seth looked at her, she couldn't tell what exactly his expression was but she could bet it was surprise. Hell, she even kind of surprised herself. She didn't know she had something like that in her.
JoJo was going to keep rubbing in her move when she felt her feet get swiped from under her. Before she knew it she was on her back. Seth moved quickly to pin her down, grabbing her by her wrists. She tried to squirm her arms free. A feeling of success overtook her when she felt Seth let go back it was quickly lost when she felt his hands push down her shoulders.
JoJo thought quick, realizing that he had her gripped by the shoulders but her arms were still free. She gripped his arms and pushed, feeling Seth's grip slip as his hands feel on the canvas. JoJo was going to try to push him off when she realized her actions had placed them in a rather interesting position.
With bated breath, JoJo locked eyes with a rather close Seth. His breath hit her face, which wasn't too bad because Seth had the curtesy to chew some gum before every session. Her eyes scanned his face, her bottom lip being bitten down as her eyes landed on his mouth. It was open slightly as he breathed slow breaths. For a split second the thought of how those lips would feel on hers teased in her mind; she tried to push it away but the close proximity crippled her usual sense of self-control. JoJo decided on letting her eyes roam elsewhere.
His hair was in a tight bun but strands had escaped, letting it frame his face. She almost wanted to reach up and brush a strand but she didn't dare touch him in case she did something else entirely that she probably shouldn't. Hell, this whole position lasting this long was something that really shouldn't be happening.
Her eyes shifted to his and she felt her breath stop. Well she thinks it stopped because she was feeling lightheaded. His brown eyes bore into hers. What he was feeling, JoJo didn't know. But there was a softness in them. Seth slowly smiled down at her; the action made JoJo's heart flutter again.
"You look cute when you're flustered." He spoke softly. JoJo's face flushed at those words.
"I…I'm not flustered…" JoJo replied back, making a lame attempted to sound confident.
Seth's eyes scanned down her face. She felt exposed and she nearly wanted to shout 'just kiss me already, you idiot!' but the confidence to do so was something JoJo did not have right now.
"I'm going to kiss you." Seth spoke once more. "If you don't mind?"
JoJo was surprised at the question. Not at the actual question but more at the fact that he was even asking or telling her what he was going to do. She swallowed before nodding.
"O-okay."
Seth studied her face a final time before dipping his head and capturing her lips on his. JoJo's brain went from hyperactive to a completely useless muscle as Seth's lips moved with hers. The kiss was soft and sweet, Seth was clearly testing the waters. As seconds passed, Seth started to move faster and hungrier or maybe JoJo had made the kiss like this. JoJo wasn't sure anymore. Seth's hand had slid into her hair, pulling her closer as she moved her hands to his cheeks.
Seth's other hand was gripping at her waist, pulling her hips up. The aura around the room quickly shifted to one much more heater as he started to kiss down JoJo's jaw and to her neck. Sharp breaths escaped her lips as Seth nibbled and kissed at the skin.
"Seth…" She breathed out, trying to gain his attention. "Seth we-e shouldn't do this here."
Seth pulled back, looking at her. "No one will walk in. And if they do? Well…let 'em." He moved to kiss her again but she placed her hands on his shoulder, pushing him away.
"No." She said, proud of herself at being able to muster up a stern tone. Seth groaned as a response, moving off of JoJo.
She sat up when he moved, her hand's instantly working over to her mass of curls. Despite having him at full view just seconds earlier, she found herself not wanting to look over at Seth.
"You kissed me." She whispered, as the realization of what just happened really hit her.
He kissed her.
He kissed her.
He kissed her.
"Well, I did ask." Seth responded, crawling over to sit in front of her. She was suddenly all but forced to look at him now. She slowly looked up at his face, it was flushed which was a surprise to her. Was he as flustered about this too?
"You did. I just…" JoJo fiddled with the hem of her shirt. "…I didn't think this would happen today. Or ever."
"Me too." He answered, scratching his beard before smiling. "I wanted to kiss you but I didn't want to do it this way…"
JoJo nodded. "Yea- wait! What?"
"I wanted to probably take you out first. I mean, I don't usually do dates but it could've just been a hang out…"
JoJo shook her head furiously. "Wait! Pause and rewind! You wanted to kiss me?"
Seth nodded. "Yeah…wasn't it obvious? I uh, I thought I was being pretty obvious."
"No! No you weren't!" She exclaimed, momentarily taking time to think about whenever Seth had laid out big hints to her but she couldn't think of anything.
"You're pretty dense then…"
"I'm not dense!" She retorted. "You're just horrible at dropping hints. Especially ones you're trying to make obvious!"
"What was I supposed to do? I flirted with you through text, I flirted with you to your face…I think I even asked you what would happen if I kissed you."
He was right. He had done those things but JoJo never took them seriously. It was easy to assume Seth just wasn't into her. She wasn't blind, she has seen him with a couple of ladies before and they always looked older than here. They probably were older than her. And they filled out and they had all these curves and length and she…she didn't have any of that. She was small, young and was still mistaken for a 17 year old wherever she went. Just yesterday a guy told her "have a good day, little lady" and she almost wanted to whip out her ID and shove it in his face.
"…I guess you were obvious. But wait, a date– "
"Hang out."
"Is date too intense of a word or…?"
Seth rubbed the back of his neck. "I don't do dates. They sound…yeesh, you know?"
"Okay…" JoJo answered slowly.
Seth sighed. "I just don't like the word, alright! It makes it sound like a sure commitment and I don't do that– "
"You don't have to explain." JoJo cut him off. "I get it."
"Yeah…well…I wanted to hang out first before kissing you because I wasn't sure if you were into just kissing like this."
"Oh I'm into this." JoJo spoke without thinking. Embarrassment filled her as Seth simply let out a chuckle. "I…I thought that was obvious…?"
"It was." Seth answered. "But you know, I just wanted to be sure…"
"We can still go on that da –we can still hang out." JoJo smiled at him. "Even though we kissed…we can act like it didn't happen?"
Seth scoffed. "I'm not forgetting this trust me. You're an exceptional kisser, Offerman."
JoJo coughed in her hand, blushing once again. "Thank you. You're pretty good too. A bit tickly with the beard but I like it."
Seth smiled. He did have a gorgeous smile.
"So how about we forget this class and just hang out?" Seth suggested.
JoJo shook her head. "Nope."
Seth's face fell. "What?"
JoJo stood, brushing herself off and fixing her clothes. "Sorry, Rollins. But I actually want to get better and be able to wow the crowd while I kick someone's ass. We can go after this though." She stretched her hand out for him, a smile on her face.
Seth smiled. "Alright. I like that thinking." He took her hand, letting her raise him up to his feet. Before JoJo could even think about pulling away, Seth pulled her up to him and she felt herself nearly collide with his chest. She looked up to find his face close to hers. "Can I get one more kiss though?"
"Sure." JoJo leaned it slowly before smirking and catching him in a standing hammerlock.
"Hey! Ow! Ow! Ow! Ow!" Seth whined.
"Never let your guard down, Seth! Wasn't that the first thing you taught me?" JoJo spoke innocently, holding the hammerlock tight.
Seth let out a laugh. "Yes! Now can you please let go? This hurts!"
JoJo let go, watching as Seth righted himself and shook his arm out. JoJo kissed his cheek softly, smiling as she saw him smile at her. "To help you feel better."
"Thanks." Seth placed his hands on his waist. "Let's get back to the hip toss, Shortcake."
