Bella's POV
World Competitions
I can't believe World Competitions are finally here, and I'm going to be participating in them as part of the Volturi Royal 6. I sat in that classroom on my first day at Leonardo da Vinci Academy, listening to the Volturi introduce themselves, in awe at how beautiful, important, smart and athletic they were. And now I'm Bella Swan-Volturi, Royal 6 member, Princess of the Vampire World, and I'm dating Demetri Volturi of the Volturi guard. I would have never believed I would live such a fairytale, but here I am in Orlando, Florida, about to compete in some of the most prestigious school athletic competitions ever with the royalty of the vampire world.
Enough of my mental gushing. Competitions start Monday, but we got here Saturday. We're all staying in a hotel in the Disney Resort. Chala and Hannah gave us a break from practicing and we went to the beach, we including Chala, Hannah, and my first but not forgotten Italian friends Tori and Zoey.
"I never knew you were so nice. You always seemed kind of stuck up, to be honest." Tori was telling Chala.
Chala smiled and shrugged. "I can be a bitch when I wanna be, but I try to be nice most of the time."
We all laughed. "So, how are you and Demetri?" Zoey asked me.
"Oh, we're great." I winked. Everyone groaned in disgust.
"I didn't need to know that." Hannah complained. Tori and I giggled.
"Well," said a cold voice that made me whip my head around in dreaded recognition, "Look what the cat dragged in." Two very familiar faces glared back at me, surrounded by a few other snobbish looking girls.
"Rosalie Hale." Chala snarled.
"Alice Cullen." Hannah growled. I was surprised that Hannah and Chala knew their names but then remembered that they had all met before in Competitions.
"Oh look, they remember our names." Rosalie scoffed, and Alice and the other girls laughed. This was the first time I had seen my middle school bullies since I moved from Forks 2 years ago at the beginning of my freshman year. I felt a mixture of fear, anger, and resentment all at once. I had to remind myself that I wasn't that same weak, vulnerable girl with low self esteem that I used to be. I had a great body, great hair, a banging wardrobe, loyal friends, a hot boyfriend, a new loving family… the list was endless but overall I had a lot more self confidence. I would never be that girl that they could easily intimidate ever again.
"You are still the same old pathetic excuse for an athlete and human being that I've always known you to be." Hannah snapped.
Rosalie ignored her comment with a toss of her long golden hair, like she was above petty drama. Yeah, right. "Chala, are these your new cheerleaders?" she questioned with a look of disgust towards Tori and Zoey.
"Hey, watch it! I'm a damn good cheerleader!" Tori retorted, jumping in Rosalie's face. Rosalie pushed Tori down in the sand, and that's when all hell broke loose. Hannah and Chala jumped on Alice and Rose. Tori, Zoey, and I held Rosalie's other minions back from defending Rose and Alice. Soon after, the guys showed up. Demetri grabbed Chala and tore her off Rosalie, Alec hauled Hannah off of Alice, and Felix separated Tori, Zoey, and I from the other girls. We were all breathing hard and cursing. Alice and Rosalie had bloody lips and noses, and Chala was holding some of Rosalie's hair extensions in her hand. My blood was boiling.
"I suggest you leave, now." Felix told Rosalie, Alice, and their girls. He had Tori and Zoey thrown over both of his shoulders caveman-style, and he had my back up against his body with his arm barred across my chest. It was a smart move, cause I wanted to maul those hateful bitches. Rosalie glared at us, wiped blood off her lip, and led her and her gang of rats away.
"Chala, you know what Dad said. Any fights and you are grounded." Demetri said to Chala.
"I don't care, she shouldn't have put her hands on Tori!" Chala shouted. Demetri sighed and we all got dragged back to the hotel.
It's Monday and the tournaments have begun. The countries competing in the competitions this year are the United States representing North America, Venezuela representing South America, Nigeria representing Africa, Australia representing itself, Beijing representing China and Asia, and of course Italy representing Europe. Chala, Tori, Zoey, and I saw a lot of each other for the cheer and dance competitions. Hannah was busy with the basketball and volleyball teams as they played games and matches back to back. Felix also had basketball and baseball to dominate. Alec was focused on showing off in football and boy's track. Demetri was rumored to be wowing the judges with the baseball and soccer divisions that he had taken on earlier in the year. The week really flew by. I hardly had time to think about rivalry, as I was completely focused on doing my best. Our whole schedule was wake up, eat, compete, eat, and sleep. There wasn't a lot of downtime to be found but none of us were concerned with that. We were concerned with winning.
Finally it was Saturday and time for the formal World Competitions Award Ceremony. The Volturi dressed to impress and arrived early to the huge banquet hall and sat down in our section. There were hundreds of students here. Chala, Hannah Alec, Demetri, and Felix all sat in the Captains section while I sat with Tori and Zoey with the rest of our team in the cheer section. I looked at the United States section, where the Spartans from Forks High School were representing North America. My brother Emmett was there, as well as Rosalie, Jasper, Alice, Edward, and my cousin Jacob. I was surprised to see Jacob was going to Forks because he had went to school on the Quileute reservation when I was in Forks.
"Welcome to the 2012 High School World Competition Award Ceremony, hosted by Orlando, Florida." announced the speaker. We all cheered and applauded.
"First, we have baseball." The woman began. The Spartans got 3rd place, Venezuela got 2nd place, and we won first. When she called our school name, we all jumped up, screamed, and hugged each other. Felix, Demetri, and the rest of the baseball team ran up to the stage to receive the trophy and we chanted, "V-I-C-T-O-R-Y! A Jaguar Tradition!" I had a feeling we would be saying that a lot. We placed first in everything except for soccer, wrestling, and tennis, in which we all placed third. None of the Royal 6 played tennis or wrestling, so it wasn't surprising that we didn't win in those. Our captain table looked disappointed all the same. Spartans placed second, third, or not at all. In wrestling they came in first and were ecstatic. Jacob and the wrest of the team ran to the stage in elation.
At the end of the ceremony, the food was served and the dance started. We walked around and congratulated every school, even the Spartans, begrudgingly. Then we all got out on the dance floor. Chala and Alec immediately took the spotlight as usual. Hannah was talking to Jacob, while Felix stood looking in their direction with a suspicious and possessive look on his face. He was talking to Demetri over by the DJ. I headed over to talk to them when I felt hands land on my hips. I whipped around in confusion and came face to face with the most notorious face from my days of being bullied, Edward Cullen. It was clear he didn't recognize me without my extra pounds, acne, and messy hair.
"Hey hottie." he said smoothly. He was still as handsome yet obnoxious as ever. His groupies were standing behind him.
I sucked my teeth. "Girls with asses like mine don't talk to guys with faces like yours." His friends laughed and he looked shocked and hurt. I smirked and strutted away. I was glad he didn't recognize me. I was going to be on his own home turf soon, and I had some vengeful plans brewing. It would be even sweeter when he realized who was playing him.
The next morning we all got up early, got dressed, packed our bags, and headed to the airport to board our flight back home.
I couldn't stop thinking about getting back to Forks to see my dad, brother, and cousin, and also seeing the looks on everyone's faces in Forks when they realized that there was a new Bella in town.
Well, thanks to everyone for reading and reviewing my first story. 4 years after it was first published, it has been completely edited by my beta and close friend, Hannah (fanfiction pen name: Charlotte Miles). I started this story when I was only 13 and although I'm 17 now you guys have been there and continued to support me and I am forever grateful. I know you want to know what happens next, so please go read the sequel, There's a New Bella in Town: Forks. My beta is about to start editing that one, so keep in mind that it was also written when I first started writing and therefore has a lot of mistakes. Thanks again for all your reviews and support over the years. I appreciate each and everyone of you!
