Hey guys, heh heh. Sorry for the wait, I've been watching Fairy tail and Naruto... along with other thing but no need to get into that. Anyway, if anything seems familiar, that's probably because it is.

Hope you enjoy the chapter.

Six years ago (9 years old)

"I hate this smell. Why are we hear?"

"Because Max, you need a check up every one in a while." My mom replies with exaggerated patience. She drags me along the long white corridor, my shoes, wet from the rain outside, squeaking along the tiled floor.

"But it smells funny." I complain.

"That's because it's a hospital and they use a lot of antiseptic." There's an edge of annoyance and a small smile pushes to my lips, enjoying watching my mom lose her cool.

"Okay, I get that. But why is he here?" I gesture my head to Fang, who has his hands stuffed into his pockets and is easily keeping stride. He sticks his tongue at me and I stick it back.

Mom doesn't say anything but her hold on my wrist tightens considerably. Then her hold relaxes.

"His parents asked if we can watch him while they're out and I said yes, completely forgetting about our appointment. Hence why we're late."

I ponder that for a moment as we enter a door into a waiting room.

"What does 'hence' mean?"

She drops my hand, ignoring me, and walks over to a lady sitting at a desk.

I drop into a chair in the middle of a row and Fang stands with a sense of arrogance. Then my mother returns with a nurse by her side.

"The doctor is ready to see you now Maximum."

"Just Max will do." I get up ignoring her ignoring me. Heh heh, that's kind of confusing.

She leads us down yet another white hallway and stops at the third door on the right. I'm the last to enter, and even then, it's hesitant as the wave of chemicals invade my nostrils.

A doctor turns as we enter, flicking a needle. "Ready for your shots?"

My mother opens her mouth and lunges for me as I turn on my heel. I sprint down the pale corridor, heart pounding as loud as my feet. The tile turns to carpet as I turn a corner and enter the waiting room again, tripping on the edge of the corner.

Not thinking straight, I crawl under the rows of chairs as my mother, the doctor, and laughing Fang turn the piller.

"Max, get out from under the chair."

"You didn't tell me I was coming to get a shot." I slap her hand away as it reaches past a leg.

"If I had told you that, you would have crawled out on the roof and never come down." I kick as she makes a grab for my legs.

"So?"

Fang sits in the chair above me and hangs his head over the side.

"Come on Maxie, it's just a little needle." he grins, which looks like a weird toothy frown.

I snap my teeth at him, silently warning him that I was about to bite him if he didn't get his stupid grin away from my freaking face. In response I get his stupid tongue an inch from my nose.

I think he's actually trying to lick me! Grrrr.

Hands wrap around my ribs and I'm being dragged from underneath the stupid chair. I probably got rug burn on my stomach.

"I wouldn't get too cocky Fang. Your parents told me to get you your shots too." I see his face pale as I'm finally yanked from under my cushion shield.

Now

The constant irritating high pitched beep is the first thing I'm aware of. Then the throbbing spin of my head makes itself known. I lift my arm and feel a slight tug on my skin, a prickling sensation.

I open my eyes to the blinding white of a hospital room and I become aware of the burning smell of chemicals.

As my heart speeds up the beeping increases to an erratic drum until I rip the needle from my arm and all the wires attached. The sound turns into one long even ring.

There is a commotion outside my door, doctors hurrying around. I roll out of the uncomfortable bed and my bare feet hit the cold tile, my hospital gown floating around my knees. The open back does nothing to keep out the cool air and I thank what ever God out there that I still have my undergarments on.

The heavy wooden door opens and about five men in white coats bustle into the small room.

My head spins for a moment as the white coats rush towards me. I slap their hands away in a panic, elbowing a few as they yell incomprehensible things at me.

I push past the bleak whiteness of them all and stop as a tall black figure stands in front of the door, arms crossed over his chest. I meet Fangs eyes for only a moment, long enough for him to see my panic, and he steps to the side, allowing a clear way for me to escape the confinements of the room.

I run down the hallways, pushing past doctors in white lab coats and nurses in blue scrubs, until the world starts racing around me in loops.

I go down hallway after hallway at random until I see stairs. I take them two at a time until I burst out the door to the roof inhaling big gulps of hazy summer heat.

I walk on unsteady legs to the edge of the roof and lean on the low rail running along the edge.

My world steadies, and with it, I become aware of the throb in my skull and ache in my shoulder. I take a deep breath and let it out slowly.

"I thought this would be the first place you would go."

"And why is that?" I turn and cross my arms over my chest, the rail pressing into my lower back.

Fang steps closer and smirks.

"I know you." He leans forward and rest his hands on the rail either side on me like it's the most natural thing in the world.

"Mmm. Then you ot'a know I found this place completely by accident."

"When your running away from something, you always find your way to some place high up and out of reach of others. Even if by accident." I nod my head slowly as I realize that that is completely an utterly true.

"How long have I been out?" I ask, purposely changing the subject.

"You slept the rest of the evening and through the entire day today." I glance at the afternoon sky and feel the warm wind dust across my back, making me feel so completely naked.

I suddenly want to just cover myself and not let anyone seen me. My arms tighten around myself.

"I saw him Fang." I meet my best friends eyes. "I saw Ari."

He doesn't say anything, just keeps on watching me.

"I saw that bus coming on to that little girl and I thought, 'It's happening again. It's happening just like before and all I can do is watch'." My hands move to Fangs forearms and I grip them tightly.

"But I did save her and then I thought, 'If I could save this little girl, why couldn't I save Ari'?"

His arms pull away from my hands and I feel bare again. My arms drop in defeat, limp by my side. Large warm hands cup my cheeks and force me to meet dark eyes.

"Because you were small and weak." He says. "You couldn't save Ari because he wasn't meant to be saved. You were a tiny weak little girl and there was nothing you could do." I flinch at each harsh word, but he continues forcing me to stare at the fire in his eyes. "Now you're big and strong and you could save that girl because of that. It's because of what happened all those years ago that you were able to help that little girl, so you need to suck it up and except that you couldn't save him." He releases my face.

I swallow the lump that had risen in my throat and take a deep breath. "Fine. You're right."

He sets a large hand on my head and rubs it gently, almost as if I'm a dog. My cheeks get hot for no apparent reason.

The world tips around me again and I rock back on my heels, then forward. I have to brace a hand on Fang's chest to keep from falling. He supports me by gently holding my shoulders.

Stupid head injury.

"You should go back and rest. They say you have a mild concussion and though you didn't dislocate your shoulder, there's a nasty bruise that's gonna hurt for the next few weeks." His thumb gently brushes under my hospital gown over the aching joint in my shoulder, and once again, I feel naked standing in front of him.

I pull away hastily, cheeks flushed, and walk to the roof top door, my mind whirling.

Fang leads me to the room I woke up in and it takes less time than it did to get to the roof. A doctor immediately grips my arm when I enter and leads me back to the lumpy bed.

I unwillingly lay down.

"I understand your fear of needles Miss. Ride but we're going to have to take some more tests." a white coat says pulling out a gigantic needle.

My eyes get wider the closes he gets and my heart rises to my throat. I start to sit up to run but Fang shoves me back down by the shoulders.

"I don't need anymore tests. I'm fine, really."

"Oh it's just some simple stuff we need from your blood to make sure there's no damage to the brain. You can't really tell right after but some times it shows up later on and it can become a problem. We just need a little blood."

At the word 'blood' a crimson color flashes in the back of my eyes.

I shrink away as the needle comes closer and as it comes an inch from my skin, my arm snaps out on its own and the needle flies across the room, shattering against a wall.

"I'm sorry!" I cover my mouth because I almost laugh at his facial expression.

I sit up and slap Fang's hand away as he tries to push me back down. "I really should go thou-"

There's a prickling sensation in the side of my neck and I forget what I was going to say.

I wanted to go? Why? The lights are so pretty and bright. Mesmerized, I fall back onto my back and reach up to the sparkling lights. I giggle a little.

"What's wrong with her?" Fang asks and bedraggled voice replies.

"I gave her a sedative. She'll be a little loopy for about twenty minutes."

I feel a prick in my arm and I look down at it to see a red liquid flowing from my arm and into a tube thingy.

The funny guy in the white coat removes a sharp thingy and puts a bandage over where it was.

"I'll be back with the results in an hour. Don't take anything she says too seriously either. It's like she's drunk. She won't remember anything after she crashes." He exits the room and the door closes behind him.

I grin at Fang. "He's goooofy." I giggle.

"Your goofy." He taps my nose and I try to lick his finger as he pulls it back.

"Nuh."

He pulls out a thin box thingy and points it at me.

"Who's happy?"

"Me!" I raise my hand.

"Who thinks they're drunk?"

I raise my hand again. "Me!"

"Hey Max, say I'm sexy."

"I'm sexy."

"No, no. Say, 'You're so sexy Fang,' and do a weird pose."

I sit up and pull my knees up a little and put a finger on my bottom lip, loving this weird game.

"You're so sexy Fang." He stifles a laugh with his hand. he turns the box around and faces it at himself and starts talking to it.

"This is what you get for not just getting the shot."

"Who ya talkin to?" I ask him.

"The future you that wont believe any of this happened." He turn it back to me. "Say 'hi'."

"Hi!" I wave happily at the odd box.

He laughs again.

A wave of heat washes over me and I feel something wet appear on my forehead. I wipe it off with the back of my hand. My gown feels sticky and I feel heat in my cheeks.

"Are you alright?"

I reach behind me and untie the strings while kicking the covers off the bed.

"Max, what are you doing?"

"I'm... hot." I pull the fabric from my body and drop it to the ground.

"Shit." I hear him choke.

My legs pull closer to my chest and my hands grip my damp hair.

A sheet drops around my shoulders and I meet Fangs eyes. For some reason his face is all red.

"It's.. hot." I say horsely, trying to wiggle my way out of the sheet but Fang just pulls it tighter around me. Finally I stop struggling and burro my face in the pillow sniffling.

"You're a meanie." I whine.

"I know."

I fall asleep.

And that's it. Sorry, I know they're not quit in character. But boy is Fang going to die when he shows that video to the flock.

Please leave a review and let me know what you think.
