"In three words I can sum up everything I learned about life: it goes on." -Robert Frost
4 years later...
This was the definition of a beautiful spring day. Birds were singing. The sun was out, with no clouds in sight. There was a light breeze that mixed with the warm air.
This was heaven.
Two companions were walking side by side down a dirt trail. One was an older man with two red lines on his face. His long white spiky hair was tied up and he wore a head band that read 'Legendary Sanin' inscribed on it. He had a green shirt kimono with matching pants.
The other one was a young girl of the age of sixteen. She had emerald green eyes and shoulder length brown hair. She wore a purple kimono like dress that reached her knees, and she wore fishnet under it.
They were father and daughter.
"Are we there yet?" The young girl whined, clearly exhausted from the journey the two were making.
The older man chuckled, glancing at his daughter. "Almost, we have a few more miles before we reach where we're heading."
The young girl nodded.
"Now before we get there, I need to explain some things to you." The man stated.
The two kept walking down the dirt trail.
"Don't ever show those eyes while staying there. Who knows what will happen if they see them."
She nodded in acknowledgement.
"Also, it's probably best not to associate with them."
"I got it, dad." The girl stated, understanding where he was going with this conversation.
The man nodded.
The two walked onwards till they reached their destination.
The girl looked up at the familiar pillars in front of her. She smiled at the sign as she read what it said.
Konoha.
"Welcome home, Sayuri."
Sayuri's POV
"Ah, I see you guys have finally arrived. I'll escort you two to Lord Hokage." a Konoha nin stated, while gesturing us to follow him.
Father and I followed the nin.
I glanced at the landscape before me. It seemed the village hasn't changed since I left.
"Jiraiya-sensei! You're finally here. I've been waiting for quite a while now." a deep voice spoke out behind me.
I turned around and looked where my father was glancing at.
It was a tall blond man with blue eyes. He wore a ninja outfit with a white and orange cloak. He must be the Fourth Hokage. He looked familiar.
"Ah, Minato, it's been awhile. How are Kushina and the baby?" Father spoke out.
My eyes widen. It was Namikaze-san!
The blond man chuckled, scratching behind his head. "She's doing fine and so is he. He is due real soon."
Father nodded and smiled.
Minato glanced behind father and saw me. "Is this her?" he said.
Father moved to this side, so Minato could get a good look at me. I shied away, not liking the attention I was getting.
"Yup, this is my daughter. Sayuri, no need to be shy." Dad chuckled.
Minato's eyes widen in recognition. "Sayuri?! It's been a long time since I last saw you!"
I smiled up at him. "Hello Namikaze-san. It's great to see you again."
Minato smiled and opened his mouth to speak, but stopped when he felt a presence behind him.
"Hokaga-sama, you have a meeting to attend to." another Konoha nin said, while bowing.
Minato sighed, but nodded. "Well, it was nice to see you two. Sayuri, your apartment is already set up. Stop by my office later to get the key. Enjoy your stay here." and with that, he was gone in a flash.
Father turned and faced me. "I have to get going now. Remember what I said earlier about you know what. Don't forget. I'll be back soon, I promise."
I frowned and nodded. Dad pulled me into a bear hug. "I love you, Sayuri." "I love you too, Dad."
-
After receiving the key to my apartment, I headed towards the graveyard.
I reached a certain grave. I frowned at the sight of it.
Rin Nohara.
I crouched in front of the grave and placed flowers on the grave.
"Rin-chan, I miss you. I never got to say goodbye to you. Please forgive me for not being there for you. You were like a sister to me. Rest in peace, Rin-chan." I muttered out, with tears falling down my face.
I gripped the cherry blossom necklace that lay on my chest.
"You'll always be there for me."
I sat up and headed the other side of the graveyard, to see another grave.
Obito Uchiha
"Obi, I miss you too. I never got to say those words back to you. You knew I was in love with someone else, but you still loved me no matter what. Please forgive me."
I bowed my head in a short prayer and sat up.
"Goodbye Obi and Rin-chan."
I turned around, only to hit a hard wall. I opened my eyes and looked up at the wall. My eyes widen when I saw someone I never expected to see.
"K-Kakashi-kun" I stuttered out, backing away from him.
He looked down at me, dark eyes widen at the sight of me.
"Sayuri?" His deep voice spoke out from behind the mask he always wore.
I nodded, still in shock from seeing him. I wasn't expecting to see him so soon. I blushed as my eyes roamed over his face and body.
He was taller now. His hair was still spiky, but now he had his hitai-ai covering his left eye. I wonder why it's like that.
"It's been a while, Kakashi-kun." I said shyly.
He nodded, while placing his hands in his pockets. "It has. Did you just arrive back?"
I nodded, placing a stray hair behind my ear. "Yeah, I came back to start a new life."
There seemed to be a silence after I spoke those words. Kakashi was looking up at the sun setting sky. I followed his gaze to see the beautiful sky. The sky was a nice orange-pinkish color.
"It was my entire fault that they died. I didn't save them." his deep voice broke the silence.
I glanced at him in shock. I looked at his shaking figure. He wasn't looking at the sky no more but at the ground, covering his face as he spoke.
"Obito died for me. Rin...she wanted me to kill her. I-I couldn't save them. It's my entire fault. I-"
I closed the distance that I had with him and wrapped my arms around his neck pulling him close to me.
"Shut up, Kakashi-kun." I whispered in his ear. "It's not your fault. Stop blaming yourself."
He froze as I hugged him.
After a few moments, he gained his conscious and slowly wrapped his arms around my waist.
This was the first time I ever seen him cry. It truly broke my heart seeing him like this. But I was happy deep down because I was there to comfort him.
He slowly pulled away from me and looked down at me, with his cry-striking eyes.
"Sayuri, there's something I've been wanting to tell you-"
All of a sudden, there were shouts and screams coming from the village.
Kakashi was on full alert now. He looked upon at the village. His eyes widen at the sight before him.
Worried, I followed his gaze to see the most horrifying thing ever.
It was the Nine-Tails Fox.
"K-Kakashi..." I muttered out, completely frightened.
Kakashi seemed to notice and pulled me closer to him. "Come on Sayuri, we need to leave and find shelter."
I nodded, still in my scared state.
Everything seemed to go blank from there on out. Kakashi called my name a few times, but I didn't seem to care. I wanted to get out of here.
"Kakashi, we need to put this shot in her. She's in a state of shock. If we don't, who knows what she will be like." a person stated, holding a medical utensil in her hand.
Kakashi nodded and looked over at me. "You'll be alright, Sayuri." He squeezed my hand that he was holding.
I felt a slight pinch on my arm. My eyes started getting heavy. I slowly closed my eyes, bringing myself into the darkness.
I opened my eyes.
Mom...Obito...Rin...they were all there in front of me.
Tears fell down my face as I gazed upon them.
Obito walked up to me and smiled. "Sayuri, wake up."
Rin stood beside him and placed a hand on my shoulder. "We forgive you, Sayuri-chan. don't blame yourself forever."
Mom stood between the two and placed a kiss on my forehead. "Take care of yourself and your father. Goodbye darling.
"Wake up Sayuri. Someone is waiting for you on the other side."
"Sayuri! Wake up!" a deep voice spoke out.
I smiled as I knew whose voice that belonged to.
Kakashi.
_
I opened my eyes, wincing at the brightness that surrounded me. I felt warmth in my hand. I glanced down, seeing a navy blue glove wrapped around my hand.
"K-Kakashi." I mumbled.
The gloved hand squeezed my hand in response.
"You're finally awake, Sayuri. I was starting to worry that you wouldn't. It's been a full day already." Kakashi said.
I sat up slowly and smiled at him. "I'm awake now."
He gave me an eye crinkle.
The sound of a door opening broke our gaze from each other.
"Finally wake I see. Good. You are free to leave whenever you wish. Kakashi, you should walk her home." The doctor stated, leaving the room.
Kakashi sighed and sat up from the chair he was in. "I'll let you get dressed. Met me at the front when you're done."
He left the room, leaving me to get dressed. I got out of the hospital bed and made my way towards the folded clothes on the table across the room.
After I got dressed, I headed to the meet up place to see Kakashi leaning on the fence outside of the hospital.
Kakashi seemed to feel my presence and turned around. "Ready?"
I nodded and walked beside him.
The feeling in the air didn't feel right to me. It felt eerie. Like something bad had happened.
"The village was under attack two days ago. You had a panic attack so I took you to the hospital to get you treated. You've been asleep for two days." Kakashi broke the silence.
That explained everything.
"The Hokage was the one to stop the attack. Sadly…he didn't make it."
I looked over at Kakashi and frowned. It must have been hard on him to deal with that loss. He was the last member of his past team now.
I reached down and grabbed his hand, giving him a reassuring squeeze.
He gazed down at me.
"I'm here if you need me. I know I'm not the closest friend you got, but I'm still here for you." I spoke out softly.
All of a sudden, I felt my body collide with a harder one. I felt strong arms hold me tightly and warm breath fan across my neck.
"Thank you, Sayuri."
I smiled and wrapped my arms around his neck. My heart pounded at the closeness we had. The feelings I had for him were blossoming again.
I still loved him with all my heart.
