A/N: Oh hi everyone, it's been what... fifteen days since I last updated? I'm so sorry...honestly, I have been super busy with school starting again. I hope you enjoy this chapter even though it's kindof filler. Thank you technoWriter15 for favoriting this fic.
Link continued to lead Ghirahim and Midna through the forest. The path was getting thick and full of spiny vines, but he proceeded steadfastly. He heard a hiss of pain and a curse from Ghirahim. "Stupid vine," the other teen snarled. Midna chuckled and even Link broke a smile.
"How much longer, Link?" Midna asked as she neared the Hylian.
Link turned around to see the two, "It should be around here." The knight turned to see the remains of an old flag pole. "It's this way," Link called out, swiftly moving through the brambles. The two followed less successfully; he could hear Ghirahim's growls and Midna's hmmphs. Finally, after a five minute battle with the flora all three were standing side by side in front of a large moldy stone gatehouse.
"I will look around the perimeter to see if there are any enemies," Ghirahim offered, "You two can spilt the inside." The prince ran off to check out the perimeter. Link watched he disappear around the corner before entering the stone gatehouse.
He walked slowly on the stone floor. The pair's footsteps echoed in the dark hall. A small light began to flicker against the stone walls. Link turned to see Midna with a glowing ball of light in her hand. He nodded his thanks and pulled a torch off the wall. It sprung into flames and Link lit another along the wall.
He continued to light torches until the room was visible. Seeing no one in the room, he continued into another room. After a long hour of searching, Link returned to the gatehouse with Midna following behind him.
Ghirahim walked through the archway. "There is no sign of anyone outside," he announced putting his hands on his hips.
Link nodded tiredly, "We will be safe for tonight. I'm going to sleep. You two can do whatever." The knight turned around to find room in the very far corner of the fort. He didn't want to face the other two; it wasn't that he was angry with them, but he didn't want them to see him cry.
LOZ-LOZ-LOZ
Ghirahim watched Link stomped off to some back corner. He knew that the other teen was very depressed, but didn't know what to say to him. "I guess, I'll find us something to eat," Ghirahim said softly. He turned to leave the fort.
Midna looked at him disappointedly. "Aren't you going to talk to him?" she asked crossing her arms.
"And say what?" Ghirahim asked slightly angry.
The Twili girl sighed, "You're the last one who saw Pipit alive, and you've experience loss before."
Ghirahim exhaled a pained breathe, thinking of his guard and father. "I'll see what I can do, but don't expect too much." The white-haired teen walked to follow where Link went to.
Ghirahim could hear soft sniffles. They stopped as soon as Ghirahim's feet kicked a small loose pebble. "I would like to be left alone," Link's voice said with a slight sob.
"I know that you said that, but I think you need help," Ghirahim said sitting beside Link who remained facing the wall. Link sat up and pulled his knees to his chest. Ghirahim shifted uncomfortably. "I never had a brother, but I think I understand how you feel."
Link looked at the other teen. "I know. We have all lost people that mean a lot for us. I shouldn't put up such a scene."
Ghirahim sighed, "When I heard about what happened to … you know, I didn't handle it well. But I took comfort in the fact that they are safe from whatever dark future Demise plans. They will be safe."
Link looked at the older teen. Ghirahim was sure the Hylian hated what he said. "Ghirahim," the blonde began, "That really didn't help, but you have a point." Link lowered his gaze.
Ghirahim sighed and wondered if he should have Midna speak with the Hylian. "I'll be going to bed then," Ghirahim said getting to his feet. He walked away slowly.
"Thank you for trying to help me," Link said. Ghirahim spun to face the Hylian and gave him a smile.
"That's what friends do, Link," Ghirahim said and continued to find an empty room.
LOZ-LOZ-LOZ-
Link woke up slowly. He stretched out his stiff muscles as he sat up. He sat blinking for a couple of minutes. He could smell something cooking. He hummed as the smell filled his noise. "Ghirahim, you're overcooking it," Midna's voice complained.
Link could hear the other teen sigh, "I, unlike some barbarians, eat my food cooked." Link laughed at the comment. He pushed himself onto his feet and walked to where the others were making breakfast.
Ghirahim was pushing around some sort of questionable meat around a pan over a small fire. Midna was looking over his shoulder as she was slicing fruit in her hand. "Midna, you can take over if you would like," Ghirahim suggested.
"Mmmm, something smells good," Link spoke up suddenly causing the two to turn toward him. "It looks good too," Link said as he walked closer and sat crosslegged beside Ghirahim.
The white-hair teen jutted out his chin proudly. "Of course, I cooked it," Ghirahim said cockily. With these words, the older teen put some of the food on three plates that already held sliced fruit. Link picked up one plate and began to eat. He hadn't realized how hungry he was until he started eating. He scooped up the meat with such fervor that Ghirahim and Midna were chuckling. "See I cooked it perfectly," Ghirahim said with a grin. Midna mumbled something and Ghirahim laughed.
"We need to figure out what we are going to do," Link said seriously. The mirth on the others' faces died. "We may be safe for now, but Demise can find us and if he doesn't find us, we will run out of supplies soon enough," Link said.
"Can we go back to Castle Town and see if everyone else was able to defend it?" Midna asked.
Link shrugged his shoulders, "That's a good idea, but we would have to go at nightfall. Just in case Demise and his minions have conquered it."
