John was leaning against the bar with his Green Lantern cocktail in his hand, he was looking into it deeply and watching it swirl as he lazily stirred the decorative stick with a replica of the ring Hal and he wore as the handle. He looked up and spotted Shayera across the room in a huddle with Mari, Diana and Zatanna talking animatedly. He smiled inwardly at how she seemed to light up when Diana pointed at her then gave her a big thumbs up sign. Then her face fell and she shook her head vehemently. Suddenly all the women surrounded her and wrapped her in a group hug and started bouncing up and down excitedly cheering, "Shay, Shay, Shay, Shay".
This caught the attention of everyone in the room who turned to see what the noise was all about. Shayera suddenly burst out from the huddle and yelled, "Allllllllllllright…..sheesh you guys never give up eh?", she glared at them.
They all separated and smiling sweetly at her said, "Nope", with a decidedly loud pop in pronunciation.
"Fine!", Shayera stomped over to the DJ area and started talking to him. The ladies excitedly fist pumped the air and ran over to sit down. Everyone else followed suit wondering what was going on but eager to find out. John stayed by the bar wanting to watch from there. Hal, Greg, Clark and Bruce walked over to join him.
"What's got into them?", Hal asked him. John merely shrugged his shoulders at him.
They all turned to the DJ area as a microphone was suddenly turned on loudly and tapped vigorously by Shayera who looked as uncomfortable as the DJ who was attempting to assist her. She glared at him and he stepped back in fear, then they all saw her take in a deep breath, visibly relax her shoulders and smiling at the DJ handed the microphone back to him. The DJ warily took it back from her doing a quick sound check then handed it back to her with a thumbs up. Shayera took the microphone and then smiling at him returned his gesture. Turning to the crowd she walked to centre stage.
She raised the microphone towards her and began nervously, "Ummmmm sorry everyone….I'm not one for speeches or standing in front of large crowds addressing them….or even using a microphone as the last few moments have shown", she grimaced. This drew laughter from the crowd.
"You can do it Shay", Diana yelled from the crowd. Shayera smiled warmly in gratitude at her best friend as Diana excitedly gave her two thumbs up and winked at her encouragingly.
Wally started to clap and chant "Shay, Shay, Shay, Shay", he was joined by the crowd who cheered with him.
Shayera's heart warmed at her colleagues who were giving her the boost of confidence she so sorely needed. She drew herself upright looked at John who smiled at her, then turned to nod at the DJ before facing the crowd with a big smile. As the song began to play, she took a deep breath and sang.

Shayera looked at John with all the love in her heart singing to him as if he was the only one in the room. Everyone was mesmerised by the love they could see between John and Shayera. Diana had tears rolling down her face and fingers crossed that John would finally take the leap of faith they had all prayed for so long he would take. Suddenly she felt a soft touch on her face. She turned to see Clark standing next to her gently wiping her tears away. She smiled at him and once he finished and lowered his hand, she grabbed it and held on tightly as she turned back to face Shayera. John couldn't believe it, she was singing for HIM. His Shayera was singing with so much love shining in her eyes.

Shayera had been nervous when she began singing but seeing John staring back at her with joy in his eyes spurred her on to keep going. She willed him to take the final step and accept the love that had always been there. John's heart was set, but his mind kept throwing doubts in his head. John closed his eyes and took a deep breath, clearing his mind he opened his eyes again. With steely determination he put his drink down on the bar and slowly but surely walked towards Shayera. Shayera's heart skipped a bit watching the scene playing out before her. The crowd held their breaths and waited in excited anticipation.

John had now reached Shayera. He slowly reached out with his right hand to gently brush her hair over her left ear as she continued to sing. He then gently bowed at her and raising his arms took her gently in his arms and began to sway as she sang.

Shayera laid her head on his shoulder, singing as they danced. John turned his head slightly to whisper in her ear, "I love you Shayera Hol, always have, always will". Her heart leapt with joy as tears streamed down her face at John's revelation. She squeezed him with all her might and felt a responding squeeze from John. She raised her head with tears shimmering in her eyes to look at her Operation Sucker Punch teammates to see them all crying from happiness for her. Diana was being consoled on Clark's shoulder. Zee was blubbering into a handkerchief on Bruce's shoulder. Dinah, Helena and Bea were all standing with hands clasped together and tears streaming down their faces. Mari was sobbing into Greg's chest and using his face mask to wipe her face. Wally was grinning from ear to ear and giving them both two thumbs up signs.

The crowd was swaying from side to side in time to the music as John and Shayera danced. Shayera looked up at John and sang to him with happiness shining in her eyes.

Suddenly John spun Shayera away from him and then brought her back into him. This made Shay laugh with delight and kiss him on the cheek. They continued to sway looking into each other's eyes as the music faded away. So lost in each other's eyes they forgot where they were until Wally yelled, "FINALLY!"
Their heads snapped up remembering where they were. They sheepishly released each other and turned to face the crowd who rose in unison and applauded enthusiatically and cheered at what they had witnessed. John and Shayera turned to each other, shrugged then turned and bowed to their audience. Eliciting whistles and yells of appreciation from the crowd.
John then pulled Shayera gently into his arms and said, "Are you sure, Shay?"
In response Shayera just said, "Stop thinking and just do, Soldier", she then grabbed him and kissed him.
