Chapter 10
For weeks the Guardians didn't leave Jack alone about how irresponsible he was for allowing Katherine to be involved in such a dangerous situation. Jack did his best to explain what had happened and how Katherine took down so many fearlings with just one attack. But they didn't listen. Of course they didn't, Jack was only just an irresponsible stupid teenager. Or according to Bunnymund at least who was most upset about the whole ordeal. He refused to allow Jack anywhere close to Katherine for a long while.
But Katherine was getting beyond fed up with everyone. So she went up to North and demanded that the whole ordeal be forgotten. She was sick and tired of everyone's bickering, plus she missed having fun with Jack. Katherine didn't understand why this was all blown out of proportion. If anything she was the one who was supposed to be freaked out considering all the freaky recent events with Pitch and her nightmares. It never left her mind how similar he was to those eyes... in fact she was sure that Pitch was the eyes ion her nightmare! After all... he is the nightmare king.
The Guardians reluctantly let the grudge go and allowed Jack to take her out and have fun again. But they made Katherine promise not to get in anymore sticky situation, like she ever wanted to in the first place. Katherine rolled her eyes and flew as fast as she could out of North's workshop. She was so tired and felt enclosed. She had to be free for just a little while.
So Katherine flew to Jack's lake where she knew he would be. Indeed, she found him sitting in the middle of the frozen pond drawing frost designs on the surface of the ice. Katherine lightly flitted out to join him and lightly sat beside him. Jack gasped at the sudden appearance and quickly covered the picture he had drawn.
"Ha, what are you trying to hide you lil punk?" Katherine laughed as she pushed Jack away from the drawing. She could barley make out the shape of a heart and two initials. Katherine saw Jack blush a little, but she just smiled at him and hugged him.
"Come on, lets have some fun." Katherine grinned. Jack grinned back and they both jumped to their feet.
Jack tossed a handful of snow into the air and thousands of mini butterfly's burst out of the snow. They flew around Katherine and lightly landed on her, creating a white layer on her dress. Katherine laughed as she made over a dozen snowy wolves dash out across the pond and howl at the crescent moon. She made golden dream sand flow from their howls and turn into small dragons that tackled Jack to the ground. The butterfly's flitted off of Katherine, and turned into a personal; snow cloud as Jack struggled to get up.
Katherine giggle and had the dragons fly off of Jack and banter off into the woods along with the wolves. Jack laughed as he brushed all the dreams sand off of him and got to his feet.
"What is it with you and dragons?" Jack asked laughing. Katherine shrugged and gave a sweet innocent smile.
"Are they real?" Katherine asked as she formed a small baby one in her hand. The dragon growled and shot golden flames at Katherine. Katherine laughed and snuggled the golden dragon.
"Well, yea. Just like us, they have always been real. They are hard to find, i'll give you that. But they are dangerous yet magical when you see them." Jack explained, eyeing the odd golden dragon that Katherine held.
"Have you ever seen one?" Katherine exclaimed looking at Jack with bright eyes.
" Once, and I got chased out of the woods by it to! Apparently dragons don't like there cave frosted up." Jack shrugged as he leaned on his staff. Katherine laughed as she released the dragon, letting it fly to its friends who were frolicking in the forest. Covering every tree with golden dream sand.
"There loss!" Katherine shrugged. Jack snickered and shook his head.
"How about the next time I see one I'll take you to go see it. Sound good?" Jack inquired. Katherine's eyes got bright and instantly embraced Jack.
"Yes! I'd love to see a dragon!" Katherine exclaimed with a giddy smile. Jack laughed and hugged Katherine back. He gently kissed her on the head and moved a piece of her hair out of her eyes.
"Umm... Katherine. I hope you know those dragons will have the entire forest golden before dusk." Jack informed Katherine. In fact, while Katherine and jack were talking the tiny dragons were busy covering every speck of the forest in dream sand.
One tiny dragon even found the entrance to Pitch's lair. The dragon instantly swooped down into the lair and began to reek havoc and cover the cave walls in golden sand. It even chased one of Pitch's nightmares around the globe where Pitch was relaxing, watching as the Guardians gained and lost believers here and there. Pitch instantly became aware of the chaos and captured the tiny nuisance in a cage forged of nightmare sand. Pitch sneered as the tiny dragon shot golden flames at him, and coiled into a tiny ball in the back of the cage.
Pitch growled at the thought of the sandman sending such a beast into his layer, chasing his nightmare and covering his walls in dream sand. What nerve! But... only one thing was off. The sandman didn't work during the day...
"Katherine..." Pitch breathed in realization. In fact, right then he heard her childish laugh echo through out the forest from a distance. Pitch shook his head and dissolved into the shadows, bringing the caged beast along with him.
Pitch re-appeared in the shadows of the trees, right at the edge of the pond where he released the tiny dragon. He watched as the dragon found his friends again and began to join them in there destruction once more. Pitch sighed, he would have to send out thousands of nightmares to clean up the golden mess they were making in his forest. Suddenly another laugh emanated from the center of the lake, and another annoying laugh follow it right after.
Pitch turned and saw Katherine and Jack bent over laughing about some old joke. Pitch scowled at the sight of Jack near his daughter, how dare he have the nerve to do such a thing. Pitch was about to teach Jack yet another lesson when Katherine flew off into the sky with Jack at her heals. In fact, they were off to go bother Bunnymund and try some of his new chocolates he had made.
Pitch growled and shook his head. With a flick of his wrist he sent out an army of nightmares to destroy the dragons and clean up the mess they had made. All but one though. One dragon Pitch kept and turned it into a nightmare. There it sat on his shoulder, as a reminder of Katherine...
"Okay Katherine! This one is for you! It is made with mint, rosemary, a dash of cinnamon, and vanilla." Bunnymund described as he handed Katherine a freshly made tray of chocolates. Katherine took one and popped it into her mouth.
Katherine instantly sighed in delight as the tasty chocolate melted in her mouth. "Bunny that is amazing! I can't believe those flavors work together." Katherine cheered as she clapped her hands in approval. Bunnymund smiled and got out a different tray of chocolates.
"Jack, this next one is for you. though you have to guess what flavors they are." Bunnymund explained as he handed Jack a tray of white chocolate eggs, with what looked like shaving of dark chocolate on it.
Jack took one and let it melt on his tongue. Jack's eye's light up and took another egg. "Umm... I can taste a tad of orange dark chocolate, cinnamon, and... rosemary?" Jack guessed.
"Close, I have shavings of dark orange chocolate in there, a dash of cinnamon, cookie crumbs, some vanilla, and of course eggnog. I call it the snowy day by the fire, it is based off of what I think North's workshop smells like." Bunnymund explained. Bunnymund offered Katherine one, and she gladly took it.
"Bunny this is amazing! You have to let me take some to go." Katherine exclaimed. "Though I must ask, where did you learn to make chocolate like this?"
Bunnymunds nose twitched, and his ears twisted at the question. It took him a moment to answer, bu then he seemed to snap back into reality. "Well my dear, I learned how to make such fine desserts from my ancient people! We loved to dabble in the arts of desserts, especially chocolate. Ever since I came to this strange planet I have experimented with all different ingredients to make the best chocolate every! But there is one that I have yet to master, the dandelion..." Bunnymund trailed off as he dashed off to one of his tunnels.
Jack and Katherine gave each other a confused look. But shrugged and continued to eat some more chocolates from the tray Bunnymund had left out. A couple minuets later Bunnymund came bounding out of the tunnel carrying a tray of bright yellow, purple, and green chocolates. Jack nearly stumbled backward at the sight of the neon bright chocolates.
Bunnymund held out the tray for Katherine, and she took a yellow one. "That my dear is the dandelion chocolate I have yet to master. Is it good yet?" Bunnymund asked.
Katherine let the chocolate melt in her mouth, and instantly she wanted to spit it out. It was soo bitter, and tasted like pollen! It was something that maybe bee's would like, but Katherine restrained from spitting it our and just smiled. "Excellent!" Katherine nodded.
Jack took one of the purple ones and hesitantly popped it into his mouth. "That my friend is my newest experiment. It is made with Indigo Milk cap mushrooms I found in East Asia the other day. i had never seen such a curious mushroom before. is it good?" Bunnymund explained.
Jack's face grew a sickly green as he heard Bunnymunds description. Jack didn't really care about insulting the Pooka, he just wanted the chocolate out of his mouth now! Jack spit it out and wiped his tongue on his hoodie trying to get the flavor out of his mouth.
"I'll take that as a no! Anyone care to try the green one? It's a new moss I found in the Rain Forest!" Bunnymund exclaimed as he held out the tray once more. Both Katherine and Jack held out the there hands and violently shook their heads.
"I think I have had enough for today, I don't want to spoil my dinner..." Katherine lied.
"yea, same here." Jack agreed. Bunnymund just shrugged and handed the chocolates to his little egg warriors.
One of the tiny eggs brought a bundle of freshly wrapped chocolates that Katherine had asked for, and handed them to Bunnymund. "Well, it's about to be dusk. I think it's time you get Katherine home Jack." Bunnymund stated as he handed Katherine the chocolates. Katherine hugged Bunnymund, and stood on her tippy toes to kiss him on his soft furry cheek.
"Aw, Love you you little ankle biter! Have a good night, Katherine." Bunnymund smiled as he hugged Katherine back.
Katherine let go after a couple seconds and grabbed Jack's hand. "Ready?" Jack asked. Katherine nodded yes, and Bunnymund tapped his foot. A big whole appeared beneath their feet, and Katherine and Jack fell threw. They laughed all the way down the tunnel until they came tumbling out in North's office where North was chowing down on cookies.
"Gah! Katherine! There you are! Where have you been?" North muffled as he hurriedly tried to chew his cookie.
"I was with Jack, who else?" Katherine shrugged as she brushed off her dress. "And I thought I told you to stop eating so many cookies! There bad for you..."
"...So. They are made by yetis. How could I resist? And Jack, was there any trouble?" North demanded as he swallowed the cookie.
"Nope, none at all. Only Bunnymund trying to poison us with his new chocolates." Jack grinned as he leaned on his staff.
"Yea... I'm surprised I didn't barf at the dandelion one." Katherine sighed as she stuck out her tongue in disgust.
"Yes. Dandelion has always been failure chocolate." North mused as if thinking of a bad memory. "Anyway, it is almost time for dinner Katherine. You may stay if you like Jack."
"Nah, I've got a snow storm for Michigan thats begging to break loose. I'll see you later guys!" Jack said as he picked Katherine up and hugged her. Katherine laughed and hugged him back.
Jack forged an ice hat and tipped it to North. Then he shot out of the office and out into the night. North chuckled to himself as Katherine took the cookies from him and gave them to the elves that stood nearby eyeing them with watery mouths. Katherine and North later sat down for dinner and ate until their hearts content. Later on Katherine allowed North to tell her old story's by the fire until she eventually fell asleep. Things were back to normal for now. No nightmares, only sugar plums dancing in her head...
