Chapter 11
One morning Katherine was nowhere to be found. She was not in the Kitchen, not in the library, not in Norths office, and definitely not with Jack... Where was she? North was rather worried. Katherine was usually up and about by 11:00am. It was not like her to just stay hidden unless she was reading. So North sent a Yeti into her room to see if she was there hopefully.
Indeed, she was. But the yeti nearly had a heart attack when he saw Katherine. She was as pale as a ghost, and it didn't look like she was breathing. The Yeti immediately ran and got North to follow him back tot he room.
North gasped when he saw the pale figure of Katherine laying lifeless in bed. North rushed over to her side and lightly put the back of his hand on her head. Katherine was burning up, she clearly had a fever.
"Poor child." North sighed. "Call Bunnymund as quick as you can. Tell him Katherine is in need of medicine." One of the yetis grunted and shuffled off to call Bunnymund while North tried to wake Katherine up.
Katherine groaned and snuggled deeper into her covers. Her head was spinning too badly to open her eyes. "Katherine, sweety. Wake up for a little bit. You need to get some liquids in you." North prompted as he lightly scooped Katherine up out of her covers. Katherine curled up as much as she could in Norths arms and allowed him to carry her off to the living room.
North set Katherine gently down in the living room by one of the fires and wrapped the couch blanket around her. North had one of the elves bring Katherine some hot tea and ginger cookies if she could eat. The poor girl, it looked as if she was dying.
When the elf brought Katherine her tea she could barley lift her head to drink it. So the elves nurtured her instead, like she had done to them when a cold broke out among them two years ago. It was the least they could do. So spoonful by spoonful Katherine drank, more or less ate, her tea and passed right back out into uneasy dreams.
Katherine hated dreaming when she was sick. They were all terrible and tormenting. They legitimately hurt her, but then again that was probably just the flu working it's horrid magic.
"I'm here North!" Bunnymund called out as he burst through the doors, shivering through the cold. Bunnymund raced over to where the fire was and desperately tried to war his feet up. He saw Katherine laying passed out on the couch, looking as pale as a ghost and barley breathing. "Poor little ankle bita'." Bunnymund thought to himself as he went to check her temperature.
Katherine jumped at Bunnymunds touch, she didn't hear him come in... then again she was just asleep. "Bunny..." Katherine groaned. "Make it stop."
"Awe, I'll try my best Katherine. Just give me moment." Bunnymund smiled. Bunnymund guessed she had a fever of about 103 from the feeling of it.
Bunnymund pulled out his bag of medicines and searched through it frantically. He had a certain flower that would get rid of the fever, and another that would cure her cold in less than two days. All he needed to do was ground them up and put them into a paste. Fairly easy, but he would need to find North's kitchen. So Bunnymund had one of the elves lead him into the kitchen where he began to mash the flowers and brew his medicine.
When Bunnymund came back he found Katherine passed out once again. He hated to wake her up, but he was doing her a favor from waking her up out of uneasy dreams. Katherine reluctantly took her medicine and thanked Bunnymund. When he left to go consult North about her condition she fell right back into an uneasy sleep.
"She will be fine in two days maximum. Just make sure she drinks a lot of fluids and has plenty of sleep." Bunnymund explained to north once he found him.
"Thank you Bunny." North thanked Bunnymund with a big bear hug. "I don't know what we would do without you."
"No problem mate. If she needs anything else just shout." With that Bunnymund tapped his foot on the ground and he disappeared through a giant hole.
A couple hours later Jack popped in at his normal time to see if Katherine was ready to go play for a while. When he saw her passed out on the couch with a pale face, he went and raced over to her side. A yeti who was tending to her lifted up a finger for Jack to be silent.
"What's wrong with her?" Jack whispered as he crouched down to match Katherine's height. The yeti whispered an explanation of how she became sick, and left to get some more wood for the fire.
"Sick huh? Well, it is the flu season." Jack mumbled to himself. He lightly brushed Katherine's cheek with his hand, lightly brushing the hair out of her face. Katherine flinched at the cold hands on her face, but she didn't open her eyes to see who had touched her. Her entire body felt like it was mad out of lead, and it hurt just to move a muscle.
Jack decided to stay by her side until she felt a bit better and tend to her needs. Jack would bring her tea when she woke up long enough to get in a sip or two, and he would tell her old stories from the past to lull her back to sleep. When Katherine was tired of laying down and refused to stay there any longer, Jack put Katherine on his back and gave her a ride around the workshop.
Jack found it rather enjoyable and relaxing to look after Katherine while she was sick. Though he felt really bad that she was. But just like Bunnymund had said, Katherine began to get better with tons of sleep and fluids. Her flu didn't stand a chance against his medicine, and withing two days she got better and was back on her feet spreading fun with Jack.
Sorry guys, this was mainly just a fun chapter ^~^. But on a serious note, here is to all those who are sick during the holidays! I hope you get better soon, and have a very merry Christmas! (I might do a fun Christmas special. Who knows ^.^)
