Chapter Two: So It Begins

After the revealing bit about Ravens future, she returned to her room. She currently sat on her bed looking at the ceiling.

Her father couldn't chose her love life. Granted, he could chose her mate, but he couldn't make her love him. It was stupid and ridiculous. And pointless. And appalling. And demeaning. And...

Raven ranted for a while, never entirely calming down. So before she blew something up, she needed to meditate. She floated above her bed, repeating her mantra. Before she knew it she was relaxed and almost ready to deal with the annoyance called her team.

If her team found out, then she wouldn't hear the end of it. Robin wouldn't have it, and Beast Boy wouldn't stop joking about it. Starfire would probably be happy and confused, while Cyborg would be disapproving and cautious about the whole situation. But she could deal with their emotions; it was knowing that Robin would question her about it and be suspicious of her that made her bite her tongue.

She wasn't about to be demoted or suspended, so it was wise to keep secret. Plus, she wouldn't fall in love, so.

Love. She scoffed.

It's stupid really.

A knock sounded at her door, breaking her rant. She got up from her bed and angrily stomped to the door.

"What?!" she growled. On the other side, Beast Boy visibly deflated, and somehow he found the courage to continue.

"Hey Rae, I was um, just wondering if, uh, you wanted to maybe-"

"Hurry up and spit it out!" she interrupted.

"Ah, go to the movies with me tomorrow?" He cringed for her answer.

"No," She answered quickly, leaving no room for debate.

"But-" He tried.

"No, Beast Boy," she shot down.

"Oh, okay, maybe another time then, hehe," He chuckled nervously, then sighed in defeat and sped off.

Raven shook her head and walked to her private bathroom. Leaning on the counter for support she bit back her rage, which had long since boiled over. She pooled her hands in the tap and splashed her face repeatedly.

A part of her hoped that her mate would comfort her distress, but as soon as she thought it she cast it out. That was her Demons' thought. Not hers. Her Demon wasn't in control of her, and that's how she had to remind herself.

He will come for me… it taunted.

Raven growled and released a shock wave of energy, shattering her mirror in the process. The slivers of glass fell around her, along with a single tear drop.

The Titan's Alarm sounded.

Darkness shaded the edges of the room and concealed the cloaked figure. Red irises peered out over the display cases. He had already disabled the alarm system and cameras, but he was still leery about being in the open.

Tonight he was alone, while the rest of the HIVE ventured in separate ways in hopes that only one of them would get caught by the Titans instead of all of them.

No way in all Hells plains was he going to be the one caught, and there were eight.

He glided silently along the wall behind the cabinets to one counter that was illuminated. He waved in front of the glass and a black hole appeared. Reaching in, his fingers caught several diamond necklaces and bracelets. He pulled them to a small black drawstring bag he had hidden under his tattered cape and reached in for another handful.

Two cases and three bags later, he sighed; satisfied. He opened a portal to his room and deposited them on the bed, then teleported to the common room. It was still and silent. He had expected it to be filled with the cheer of their spoils. The big computer on the far end of the room had a red blinking exclamation mark. He tapped on the screen and brought it to life, a short message next to Gizmos photo appeared.

He sent an alert to them; he had got caught.

Just as he closed the screen, another popped up, this time from Billy Numerous.

They could sort it out without him, they had before and they could do it again. He went to his room to look over his prizes. Just after he left, a message from an unrecognized source blinked on screen.

He laid each piece out on the bed like a display and looked them over. One bracelet had thick flat silver circles as the band and birds were embedded with a dark blue stone onto the center of the circles of it as if they were in mid flight.

He laid the piece aside from the rest and smiled, then slipped everything but the bracelet back into the bag and opened a portal to their safe. He could care less of the cash value of the jewelry because he had found a priceless piece that he wasn't going to share with the rest off the bozos.

"Beast Boy?! Come in Beast Boy!" Robin shouted frantically into his communicator.

Billy Numerous squirmed uncomfortably in his bindings under Robins boot. Beats Boy had called Robin to tell him See-more had gotten away and halfway through the call dropped with a bout of static.

"Starfire?" He tried her communicator.

She didn't pick up.

"Cyborg?!" He prodded frantically.

"I'm here man, what's up?"

"Good, you're okay. I lost contact with Beast Boy and Starfire hasn't answered her T com."

"What about Raven?" There was a brotherly urgency in his tone.

"I haven't tried her yet; you're the first one I reached. Try to call Rae and I will search for the others." He snapped the communicator shut without waiting for a response.

After hauling Billy Numerous to the Police station and dropping him off, he set out for the last known place where Starfire was; fighting Gizmo at an electronics store. The front windows were smashed despite the iron bars that held in attempt to stop thieves. The alarm had been disabled, by the looks of the cut wires and the smashed box, and the shop was eerily silent. The rows of TV's had been toppled and smashed, along with everything else that had a screen.

But despite the damage, there was no sign of the villain or the hero.

"Starfire?" Robin called out, but he was met with silence..
