They made it back to Cairo in record time, and promptly made it to the hotel where Evelyn had been living. Rick was currently throwing clothes into Evelyn's suitcase only for Evelyn to immediately take them back out. Ava watched them argue quietly from a corner of the room.

"I thought you said you didn't believe in that fairy tales and hokum stuff?!" Rick accused shooing Evie's white cat from her suitcase.

"Well I…" Evelyn stuttered. "Having an encounter with a three thousand year old walking, talking corpse does tend to convert one!"

"Well, if that doesn't nothing will," Ava muttered as Evie removed her clothes from the suitcase yet again.

"Forget it," Rick said firmly. "We're out the door, down the hall and we're gone."

"Oh no we are not," Evie argued.

"Oh yes we are," Rick returned.

"We're not!" Evie insisted. "We woke him up and we are going to stop him."

"We? What we?" Rick asked. "We didn't read that book. I told you not to play around with that thing. Didn't I say not to play around with that thing?"

"Okay, you've made your point Rick," Ava warned.

"Yes, fine then, me, me, me, me!" Evie ranted. "I woke him up and I intend to stop him."

"Oh yeah?" Rick asked. "How? You heard the man. No mortal weapons can kill this guy."

"Then we'll just have to find some immortal ones," Evie replied.

"Oh yeah, cuz those are so easy to come by," Ava said darkly.

"There goes that we again," Rick said.

"Will you listen to me? We have to do something," Evie cried slamming her suitcase shut onto Rick's fingers. "Once this creature has been reborn…his curse is going to spread until the whole Earth is destroyed."

"Yeah? Is that my problem?" Rick retorted.

"Well, it's everybody's problem," Evie stuttered.

"Evelyn, I appreciate you saving my life and all, but when I signed on I agreed to take you out there and to bring you back," Rick said. "I have done that. End of job, end of story, contract terminated."

"Is that all I am to you? A contract?" Evie asked hurt. Ava glared at her brother. His insensitivity was so hurtful at times.

"Look, you can either tag along with me and Ava or you can stay here and try to save the world," Rick replied listing her options. "What will it be?"

"I'm staying?" Evelyn replied instantly before turning to Ava. "Ava, will you stay?" Ava bit her lip. Despite her sarcastic comments before she agreed that they needed to stay and clean up the mess they'd made. But on the other hand…she had only just been reunited with her brother, and she couldn't bear the thought of losing him again.

"I'm sorry," she said remorse clear in her eyes, "but I won't leave my brother again." Evie gave her a small smile and nodded her head to show her understanding. Ava crossed the room to her brother's side. The two left the room. After a few moments of silence she finally addressed her brother. "You know you're a complete ass right?"

"What?" Rick replied.

Ava sighed in frustration before pulling on his arm and bringing him to a stop. "She was more than just a contract to you," she said.

Rick gave her a bemused look. "I have no idea what you're talking about," he said.

"Oh please, Rick, I know you're not as dense as you look," Ava snapped. "I've seen you around a lot of girls, Rick. I know how you behave towards them…how you feel towards them. Evelyn was not just a contract to you."

Rick glowered. "Yeah she was also a colossal pain in my ass," he shot back. "Let's just go to the bar."

"I can't go to the bar," Ava protested. Rick gave her a confused stare. "Half my customers will be at the bar."

"Then tell them you're out of business," Rick returned.

"You know as well as I do that men don't care if they have a hooker's consent or not," Ava replied.

Rick sighed and unholstered his gun. "Then I'll shoot any man who comes near you," he said.

Ava smiled and lowered his gun. "Maybe you should just threaten them," she replied. "Alright, let's go." The pair reached the bar and made their way up to the bar. Ava kept her head down and prayed no one would notice her. She either got lucky or the men thought she was already taken by Rick. She sighed in relief as they sat down on their stools and ordered their drinks.

"Hi Winston," Rick greeted an old man who'd been telling a local harlot about his time in the war.

"You know, O'Connell, ever since the end of the Great War there hasn't been a single challenge worthy of a man like me," Winston replied stumbling over to the bar.

"Oh yeah?" Rick replied faking interest. "We all got our problems today, Winston."

"I just wish I could have chucked it with the others and gone down in a flame of glory instead of sitting around here rotting of boredom and booze," Winston sighed. "Oh well, back to the airfield."

"Well that's sad don't you think?" Ava asked. "You'd think he'd be glad he survived. He was lucky."

Rick glanced sadly at her. "Would you be glad if you felt you know longer had any purpose in life?" he questioned.

"Well, you can always find a new purpose," Ava replied.

"You're just like mom," Rick laughed. "Always the optimist."

"Well one of us has to be," she replied before smiling bitterly. "She worked so hard after Dad left, but she always had a smile for us. Do you think if we had helped out more she'd still be alive?"

Rick smiled sadly at her and shook his head. "She was sick before Dad left, Ava," he sighed. "No matter what we could've done…what anyone could've done…she still would have passed on."

Ava nodded and blinked furiously to hold back tears. "I miss her," she sniffled.

"I know," Rick said squeezing her hand gently. "Me too." They sat quietly together lost in their thoughts. They didn't even notice the Americans sit down beside them until one of them spoke.

"We're all packed up, but the damn boat doesn't leave 'til tomorrow morning," Henderson griped as he sat down at the bar.

Ava smirked. "I see we've come down a peg or two," she taunted.

"You can talk!" Henderson shot back. "You don't have some sacred walkin' corpse after ya."

"So, uh, how's your friend?" Rick asked.

"He had his eyes and his tongue ripped out," Daniels replied bitterly. "How would you be?"

Ava frowned as a wave of sympathy washed over her. She placed her hand and squeezed Daniels shoulder comfortingly. "I'm very sorry about your friend," she said. "Will you please send him my best wishes?" Daniels smiled slightly and nodded.

Rick, and Jonathan who had joined the group also, sent there regards. "Good luck boys," Rick said and they all clinked glasses in a cheer before knocking their shots back. Immediately they all began to cough and spit out their drinks.

"Sweet Jesus!" Henderson exclaimed.

"Tasted just like…" Daniels choked.

"Blood," Rick finished staring at the fountain that was now spewing blood. Ava trembled and grabbed onto the bar for support.

"And the rivers and waters of Egypt ran red and there was blood," Jonathan quoted from the Bible.

"Rick," Ava began but he shook his head and grabbed onto her arm before pulling her out of the bar.

"He's here," Rick said stating the obvious.

"I guess it's time to find Evelyn," Ava replied and the two headed back to the hotel.

"Yeah, it's definitely that time," Rick replied as they rushed to the hotel. They were almost there when they caught sight of their friend. "Oh Evelyn!"

"Evie!" Ava called.

"Oh, so you're still here," Evie said snidely glaring hotly at Rick. "Well, at least it's nice to see you Ava."

Rick ignored her as he pulled her along. "We've got problems," he stated just as fire began to rain down from the sky.

"Oh my God," Ava murmured weakly as people around them shrieked as they fled for cover. Ava suddenly saw a slender man with a red cap running down some stairs nearby. "Rick, isn't that you're old friend."

Rick glanced over to where she was looking and glowered. "Hey!" he called sharply causing the scrawny man to jump. The man tried to run away, but Rick grabbed onto him. "Beni, you little stinkweed, where've you been?" A loud growl suddenly sounded from the building nearby and Beni was able to struggle out of Rick's grip and flee.

"Coward," Ava muttered as she, her brother, and Evie dashed up the stairs and into the building to see what the matter was. They barged into the room before freezing as they saw the mummy from the temple, only now the mummy was regenerating. "That's impossible!"

"We are in serious trouble," Rick stated flatly.

Ava's eyes wandered around the room before they spotted a dried up carcass sitting on the couch. She gasped. "Burns!" she cried and started to hurry towards him before her brother pulled her back.

"I'd prefer it if you didn't leave my side right now," he said taking out his gun and shooting at the mummy. Ava quickly followed suit but their bullets had little to no effect on the mummy. The mummy quickly stalked towards them and threw them both clear across the room into Jonathan and the remaining Americans. Ava groaned as she tried to raise herself off the floor.

"Are you alright?" Henderson asked as he untangled himself from her legs. Ava opened her mouth to answer when she saw that the mummy had now approached Evie. She frowned, puzzled, to see that it almost looked tender at the British woman. She herself squeaked when the mummy leaned in to kiss the other woman. Ava jumped back to her feet and rushed at the mummy shoving him off her new acquaintance. The mummy roared and reared back an arm to hit her when he suddenly the mummy roared, sounding terrified, and turned into sand vanishing from the room. Ava blinked in surprise looking around the room for what could have caused the mummy to react in such a way, but all she saw was Evelyn's white cat on the piano keys.

The room was silent for a few moments as everyone tried to compose themselves. "We are in very serious trouble," Rick said again.

Ava glanced over at him, still breathing heavily. "You don't say," she quivered.

"Are you alright?" Evie asked concerned placing a comforting hand on her shoulder.

"I can't believe you're asking me that after that thing just tried to kiss you," Ava laughed, a tone of hysteria entering her voice.

"Forget that!" Henderson suddenly shouted. "What the hell are we supposed to do now?"

Evelyn looked thoughtful for a moment. "The museum curator I work for might be able to help us," she said slowly. "Oh he's going to be terribly angry."

"Yeah, well, I don't see any other options," Rick stated grabbing Evie by the arm. "Let's get going." They all quickly scurried to follow him to the museum tossing theories about the mummy around on their way.

"He does seem to like Evie," Jonathan said from where he stood beside Ava.

"Yeah, what's that about anyway?" Rick questioned hotly.

"What's this guy want anyway?" Daniels cried.

"Well there's only one way to find out. I'm sure the curator will have answers for us," Evie said before they all turned into the main room of the museum, and froze when they saw the leader of the man in black speaking to the curator. Ava gasped, her heart flying in her chest. She was unable to look away from the handsome face of the man and his dark eyes. The man in turn seemed to be looking directly at her.

"You!" Evie suddenly shouted. Everyone quickly whipped out there guns and pointed them at the mysterious man and the curator.

"No don't!" Ava cried, but no one seemed to even hear her.

"What is he doing here?" Evie asked the curator demandingly.

"Ladies. Gentlemen," The Curator greeted them coolly. "Do you really want to know, or would you prefer to just shoot us?"

"We really want to know," Ava said firmly glaring at her comrades.

Rick glanced at her and nodded, lowering his gun. The rest followed suit. "After what I just saw I'm willing to go on a little faith here," he said holstering his gun. Their group quickly made themselves comfortable. Ava, found herself sitting near the man in black. She blushed when he caught her staring.

"We are part of an ancient secret society," the Curator explained. "For three thousand years we have guarded over the City of the Dead. We are sworn at manhood to do any and all in our power to stop the High Priest Imhotep from being reborn into this world…"

"And now thanks to you we have failed!" the man in black said angrily. Ava flinched at his hard tone lowering his eyes as he looked down on her.

"And you think this justifies the killing of innocent people?" Evie asked in disbelief.

"Yes!" the two men answered firmly.

"Question?!" Rick called out raising his hand slightly. "Why doesn't he like cats?"

"Cats?" Ava asked giving Rick a look.

"That's what freaked him out before," Rick told him. "Of course I guess you were too busy picking fights with him to notice." Ava glowered at him and opened her mouth to retort when she heard a slight growl from beside her. Startled she turned to see the man in black glaring down at her, his fists clenched tightly. She was about to ask him what his problem was when the Curator answered Rick's question.

"Cats are the guardians of the underworld," he explained. "He will fear them until he is fully regenerated."

"And then he will fear nothing," the man in black warned, still glaring down at her.

"Yeah, and you know how he gets hisself fully regenerated?" Daniels cried hysterically.

"By killing everyone who opened that chest," Henderson replied.

"And suckin' them dry, that's how!" Daniels shouted.

"W-when I saw him alive at Hamunaptra, he called me Anck-su-Namun," Evie said quietly. "And then just now he-he tried to kiss me."

"It's because of his love for Ank-su-Namun that he was cursed," the Curator said. "Apparently, even after three thousand years…"

"He is still in love with her," the man in black finished.

"A love that transcends the grave," Ava murmured softly. The mysterious man turned to glance at her again, but this time his eyes were kind.

"Yes, well, that's very romantic but," Evie replied brusquely, "what has that got to do with me?"

"Perhaps he will once again try to raise her from the dead," the man in black speculated.

"Yes," the Curator exclaimed. "And it appears he has already chosen his human sacrifice." Everyone turned their gaze on Evie who blanched.

"Bad luck, old mum," Jonathan commented insensitively.

"On the contrary," the Curator stated. "It may just give us the time we need to kill the creature."

"We will need all the help we can get," the man in black sighed staring up at the night sky. "His powers are growing." Ava turned her glance towards the window the man was looking out of. A feeling of dread washed over her as she saw the eclipse.

"And then he stretched forth his hands towards the heaven, and there was darkness throughout the land of Egypt," Jonathan said softly.

"We need a plan," Ava said after her group arrived back at the hotel. "We can't let him regenerate. He's going after everyone who opened the chest right? Well besides Burns…who opened it?"

"Well, there was me and Daniels here," Henderson replied unhappily.

"And that Egyptologist fellow," Daniels said.

"What about my buddy Beni?" Rick asked almost sounding hopeful. Ava smiled slightly.

"No, he scrammed out of there 'fore we even opened the damn thing," Daniels replied.

"Yeah, he was the smart one," Henderson added.

"Well, yeah, that sounds like Beni," Rick sighed.

"We must find the Egyptologist and bring him back to the safety of the fort before the creature can find him," Evie stated.

"Right," Rick replied standing up. "The girls stay here, you three, come with me."

"Just a moment!" Evie cried indignantly as everyone else began to protest. "You can't leave me behind like some kind of carpetbag! I mean who put you in charge, O'Connell?" Evelyn squeaked as Rick threw her over his shoulder and carried her to her room. "What do you think you're doing? Jonathan! O'Connell!"

"Uh, sorry, but he's a bit, tall," Jonathan sputtered. Evie continued to protest loudly as Rick tossed her into the room and slammed the heavy doors shut and locked them.

"This door doesn't open," Rick ordered. "She doesn't come out, and no one goes in, right?"

"Right," Daniels and Henderson agreed.

Rick turned to her then. "Do I need to lock you in the room too?" he asked.

Ava frowned. "I'm coming, Rick," she stated firmly. "Don't even try to stop me."

Rick sighed. "Ava…"

"I said I'm coming, Rick," she said. "Let's go, Jonathan."

"Oh, well, I thought I could just stay at the fort and, uh, reconnoiter," Jonathan mumbled.

"Now!" Ava called already halfway down the hall.

"You heard her," Rick said following after her.

"Yeah, we're just gonna rescue the Egyptologist," Jonathan sighed wearily. The three quickly headed to where the Egyptologist was staying, barging into his room only to find Beni turning the place inside out.

"Well, well, well," Rick said tauntingly. "Spring cleaning?" Rick tossed a chair at Beni when the man tried to flee, knocking him down.

"Nice shot," Jonathan and Ava commented.

"Oh, Beni, did you fall down?" Rick mocked picking the man up by his shirt collar. "Let me help you up." He pinned the man against the dresser. "You came back from the desert with a new friend, didn't you, Beni?"

"What friend? You are my only friend," Beni gushed.

"What the hell are you doing with this creep?" Rick demanded. "What's in it for you?"

"It's better to be at the right hand of the devil than in his path," Beni replied. "As long as I serve him, I am immune."

"You coward!" Ava cried indignantly taking a step forward, but Jonathan held her back.

"Immune from what?" Rick asked.

"I don't want to tell you," Beni whined. "You'll just hurt me some more."

"What are you looking for? And try not to lie to me," Rick said raising Beni up to the running ceiling fan.

"The book!" Beni screamed struggling to get out of Rick's grasp. "The black book they found at Hamunaptra. He wants it back. He said to me it would be worth its weight in gold."

"What does he want the book for?" Rick interrogated.

"I don't know," Beni replied, but Rick raised him towards the fan again. "Something about bringing his dead girlfriend back to life! But that's all. He just wants the book, I swear. Just the book, I swear." His gaze turned to Jonathan. "And his sister. But other than that…" Rick suddenly bent over at the waist as Beni kicked him in his nuts before jumping out the window.

"Why you little rat!" Ava called after him running to the window. "You better hope I don't get my hands on you!" A high pitched scream suddenly caught her attention and she gasped at the sight of the creature walking away from the dried of shell of the Egyptologist.

"We're too late," she groaned as her brother and Jonathan joined her at the window. Suddenly, the creature looked straight up at them. Ava gasped and stumbled back a little. A swarm of black flies suddenly vied for the window, and Rick and Jonathan quickly shut the shutters. Ava glanced back and forth between her brother and Jonathan. "Oh my God."
