"I don't understand why you want to see his apartment," Atsushi said as he pushed the door open. He kicked off his shoes and led the way farther in. Unlike in his own apartment, Atsushi didn't have to pick up after Ryou. His twin had put everything away, as usual. But the apartment seemed... abandoned, which made no sense. It had only been a couple of days since Ryou had gone to stay with him.

"I want to see what is here," Fuji said. "Just to... get a sense of the place."

Atsushi nodded. "Do you mind if I follow you around?" he asked.

"No," Fuji said, and gave him an inscrutable smile. Atsushi figured Fuji knew he would follow anyway, and smiled back.

"How does it look to you?" Fuji asked after a moment.

"No different, but... it feels abandoned," Atsushi said. "It makes no sense, but it does."

"So it's not just me," Fuji said. He moved through the living room, and into the kitchen. Atsushi trailed behind him, not surprised to find the kitchen clean. Of the two, Ryou was neater in the public areas of his home. "This is normal?" Fuji asked.

"Pretty much," Atsushi said.

Fuji nodded and went on to the bedroom.

There, Atsushi noticed something wrong. It took him a moment to figure it out, and he finally did when Fuji stopped in front of the dresser. "The mirror's gone," he said, surprised.

Fuji looked at him. "What?"

Atsushi gestured. "There was a mirror over the dresser. Not very big, but Ryou was particular about his hair. It's not there anymore. I don't know how long it's been gone, either."

Fuji's eyes had opened, and he regarded Atsushi for a moment. "You'll have to ask Ryou about that," he said. "Find out when he noticed it gone."

"I can call him," Atsushi offered, and Fuji nodded.

"Thank you."

Atsushi walked back to the front room, dialing his brother. He'd forgotten that he was sleeping, so Mizuki on the other end threw him a moment. "Can I talk to Ryou?"

"I think so. Just a moment."

Atsushi breathed a silent sigh of relief when his brother picked up the phone. "Hey, Ryou. When did you notice your mirror missing?"

"The one in my bedroom?" He sounded like he'd just gotten up, and Atsushi swallowed his guilt.

"Yeah."

Ryou took a moment to answer. "It was broken. The first morning after I dreamed about Saeki."

"You didn't replace it?" Atsushi asked, brow furrowed.

"I didn't have time. And... I didn't want to."

"You didn't want to?" That didn't sound like his brother. He had to fight to keep his voice even.

"Yeah. It just... wasn't that important."

"You looked for weeks for that mirror, Ryou. That doesn't make sense," Atsushi said impatiently.

Ryou took another moment to answer, and Atsushi used the time to calm himself down. "I think Saeki asked me not to get another one."

Ah. That's what Fuji wanted. "Okay. Thanks. Go back to sleep. I'm sorry I woke you up."

"It's okay, 'Sushi. Night."

Atsushi hung up and went to find Fuji, more worried than ever. He related the conversation, and noticed Fuji had the same reaction he did. "Kojirou broke the mirror?"

"That's the impression I got, yeah."

"That gives us one more possible weapon against him," Fuji said.

Atsushi nodded. "Anything else you want to see?" he asked.

"Nothing in the bathroom, but I suppose Saeki had no reason to go in there," Fuji said.

"Not normally, no," Atsushi said, but when he went in there, it seemed normal enough. Granted, he didn't know the bathroom as much as the other rooms in the apartment. He returned to where Fuji stood. "Anything else?" he asked.

Fuji looked around one more time. "No," he said. "Thank you for showing me around."

"No problem." Atsushi followed him to the door, and they were back in the car before he asked the next question. "Will we be able to keep Ryou from him?"

Fuji glanced at him. "We will do our best," he said.

Atsushi didn't respond; he was sure Fuji knew that wasn't really an answer.
