In the Captain's cabin Shay had his son sit down and he began to explain "Have you ever heard of the Templars?" He raised an eyebrow wondering what their relevance was "They were a group of knights that were all killed right?"
"Hardly, the Templars have survived, I am one of them, the men who are on this ship serve our cause, and the men who tried to kill us have been our enemies for thousands of years, I cannot tell you anything further and even this conversation is opposing my oath. But I knew they will be hunting you after what I have done. And now you will have the training to stop them if you want."
"What else do I get out of this?" Shay smiled "Power, wealth, and plenty of enemies to fight which I believe is just what you need. So are you with me?" Shay put out his hand and after several moments of silence his son reached for it "I am still angry about you leaving my mother, she was going to be a nun."
"Yes I know what happened the day of the Earthquake?" Alfonso seemed horrified for several seconds "We were in Lisbon that day we were at church when we heard everything start to break and fall apart. The city was burning and my mother grabbed my hand and ran out. We reached the outskirts of the city when one of the pillars began to break. All I saw was dust, I never saw her again."
Shay remembered the pain that he inflicted for the Assassin cause. He did not want to tell Alfonso of his part in it nor about Those Who Came Before just yet. "I am so sorry what happened afterwards."
"I joined a merchant vessel for several years and when we landed in the New World I joined the colonial forces and fought against rebels and Spaniards for years I only returned home because my forces were disbanded and I had enough of that Jungle. Why are we going to New York?"
"Since the Seven Years War I had a Manor in New York city which is also where I grew up. I have cleansed the city of those men who tried to kill us but the war goes on. One of their best soldier's still hunts me and I am sure he would try to find you too."
"How do I stop him?" Shay was proud of his son "I will show you."
I heard De Costa "We can skip to New York now." The animus went forward in time and we caught a few glimpses of the father and son training on the ship but I knew more was to come as we went ahead.
They docked in the New York port and I felt like I was back at home after so many hours spent as Shay here in his home. Shay was the first off the ship into the dock that led to his manor followed by his son "You live here, even the governor of Brazil did not have such a fine house."
"Thank you, one of the perk of being a Templar but the biggest is that we truly do make a difference in the world." Shay could tell this interested his son more than anything else he had to show. "How so?"
"Well the ship we sailed in helped stop a naval invasion by the French of England itself, it also led the assault on nearly a dozen French outpost and forts. The Templars helped the English win the Seven Years War and the rebuilding of Lisbon after the Earthquake. Now come in"
H opened the door of the Manor and Alfonso saw dozens of war trophies from across the years. He went to one cabinet with odd weapons. They were knives that were connected to gloves, he counted more than twenty of them "Where did these come from."
Shay turned and saw the hidden blades and for a brief moment still felt pity for the Assassin's and shame in himself "Some were friends, others I only knew as enemies but now their blades are in my collection not the opposite way around. Night is falling soon we will go hunting."
"What do you mean?"
Shay handed him a sword and knife "I was given these from… a friend can you fight knife and sword?" Alfonso nodded "Yes I can sir." Shay nodded and also handed him two pistols while he equipped four pistols, a curved sword and knife that seemed ancient, and a rifle that seemed different."
Shay opened the doors and rushed outside, Alfonso was unprepared for his father to seem so athletic, he began climbing up an apartment and when he reached the top he looked down at his astonished son "Well are you coming." Alfonso grabbed the closest ledge and after several minutes climbed up slightly panting "Well that is one thing you will need to train in every Assassin is trained in this, they will hide in the bushes, in the market stalls and above and they will use their blades against you now come on."
They began to walk seemingly in an aimless manner but Shay turned "Can you feel it?" Alfonso looked at him with confusion "Feel what sir?" Shay took in a deep breath and he saw the blades shoot out from his gloves "Beneath us look." Alfonso looked and saw a hay pile and concentrated. In the past he felt signs that others were around and could not explain it, it helped him survive the war. "You can sense him too son?"
"Yes what is this?"
"Our inheritance stay here." With his blades still out he leapt down the apartment building into the hay pile. Alfonso became worried until his father stepped out and saw a hand stretched out "I found an Assassin initiate." Shay climbed back up "After the Revolution the numbers of Assassins and their allies spread across this country, America is theirs but I am trying to take it back. They won their Revolution but with our own they cannot stop our plans."
"What Revolution is that?"
"Oh you will see can't tell you everything, now let's continue on our hunt." Alfosno was becoming more comfortable with running across the buildings but Shay always waited to make sure he did not drop.
After several meters Shay stopped his son "You can sense enemies, it is hard to explain but you know others will try to threaten you, use it now." Alfonso nodded and closed his eyes for several seconds. When they opened for a brief few seconds the world was blue and he saw traces of red. He pointed to one alleyway "I saw them coming from there."
"Good kill them."
"What?" Alfonso felt no real reason to kill them "Those that worked with them wanted your mother and thousands of others to die they let it happen, their only language is that of death, they must be stopped, now kill them."
Alfonso could not stand against his father's determination and leapt across a separation of buildings and went by himself. He walked slowly looking down and saw four men wearing orange uniforms that looked like American militia men.
Alfonso took out his sword and knife and walked right above one and took three steps. On the last he plummeted to the ground and landed on one of the men with his knife and sword in his back. The others were shocked but responded with trained precession. Alfonso only had time to parry a blow and after the second stuck the man with his knife. He screamed in pain and leaned against a wall as Alfonso pulled out a pistol and shot another in the chest. The last one was a large man with a giant axe that swung and broke part of a window. He pulled it out but Alfonso put another pistol to the soft area under his chin and pulled the trigger splattering brain and skull against the wall.
Alfonso only realized what happened in the calm seconds after the fight was over and turned to the only survivor "What are you doing here." The man spat "Bringing freedom to the entire world." Alfonso wanted to learn more but heard the police coming and climbed up a building and fled into the night.
