Heavy lids began to flutter open slowly, letting in the painful morning light. Goosebumps started taking over her body as the fan above her gently moved the frigid air around the room. Reaching over to pull the sheets farther up her body, her hand lightly grazed over something other than bed sheets and pillows. Sleepy eyes focused harder on what was in front of her. Shifting onto her back, so her arm could reach out farther she grasped the tiny piece of paper between two fingers and brought it close to her face.
Arizona,
I had to go into work to finish up a few things for you, and some patients. Will be back in a couple hours. I made you some breakfast, and coffee downstairs in the kitchen. The bathroom is to your left, and feel free to look around in the closet and dresser for some clothes. (:
P.s. I made you breakfast because you're a terrible cook and I don't want you to burn down our house (;
Love, Callie
A wave of happiness slapped the blonde silly. A huge grin spreading from ear to ear as she read Callie's note. One thing she did remember though, was that she is a VERY bad cook. It warmed her heart knowing how hard Callie was trying, even if she wasn't here doing it physically. She folded the small piece of paper in half and placed it on the night stand sitting next to her side of the bed. Moving so that she was diagonal in the bed, she stretched her body, limb by limb. Curling her toes under, waving her right leg out as far as it could, and grabbing onto the corner of her bed and pulling her body down so it would stretch her arms. She let out a content sigh, and sat up removing the thin sheet that was covering her body. Looking around the room, she noticed the bathroom on her left and the closet right next to it. Happily, she got up out of bed, put the crutches under her arms, and hobbled over to the bathroom.
It was pretty cute, she thought. The shower had glass doors that she loved, the walls were painted a light color, and everything had its own place on the counter and in the medicine cabinet. She scared herself when she looked into the mirror, making a deep laugh rumble around the bathroom. Arizona hadn't really been able to do anything to her hair since before the accident, so her natural waves became even wavier day by day. Except today she was a hot mess. Blonde hair sticking up in every which direction, some matted to her head and most just sticking straight up. She must have slept hard last night, then it hit her. Arizona didn't wake up in a cold sweat or shaking, she woke up like any normal person would on a day like this. She did have at least one bad dream, because in the middle of the night without realizing what she was doing before it happened, she shot up breathing heavily, looked over and cuddled into the Latina for warmth and safety.
Man, was she warm. Arizona loved the feeling of being in Callie's arms, and once she placed her body next to Callie's, strong arms naturally wrapped around her trembling body. The feeling of not having Callie in the bed when she woke up made her heart sink, but the little note she left definitely picked up the pieces. She noticed that the brunette snored ever so lightly when she first fell asleep, and when she was dead asleep, her body was spread eagle across the bed. At some point during the night Arizona woke up with one arm and leg thrown over her body, while she was on the edge. But when she moved Callie tightened her arm and brought Arizona into her body, nuzzling her nose in blonde hair. She remembered giggling and falling back to sleep soundly. If only she would have figured these things out sooner, she would've made Callie sleep with her every night after the accident, if it meant she would wake up feeling this good. When she thought about it she knew that's probably what Callie wanted to do all along, and instead Arizona pushed her out the door every night when she felt too close to the Latina. With this knew found knowledge, that for sure was not about to happen anymore.
Taking a quick shower, she wrapped the fluffy towel around her body and went back into the room. It was really hard trying to keep a towel on when you're walking around with crutches. The towel fell for the umpteenth time, so she decided it was probably time to put on her prosthetic. Strapping it tight around her thigh, she began her search for clothes. It was fun looking at all the clothes they had, it was like a mini retail store in this closet. She giggled when she thought this must what it be like for all lesbian couples, having twice the clothes and make-up and all that fun stuff. Oh yeah, she could get used to this. The only bad thing was she had no clue what was hers and what was Callie's. She glided her pale hands over all the shirts, and landed on a sky blue V-neck. Then, moving to the dresser she opened the top left drawer first, seeing it had all their socks in it. The next two drawer's over had a ton of underwear, making another giggle dance across pink lips. She chose black lace boy shorts and one of what she assumed was her bras. The bottom drawer had their jeans in it, she looked through them like she was shopping in her own home, finally choosing a dark pair of skinny jeans.
Feeling very satisfied with her choices, she began her decent down the stairs. It was a lot easier than she thought it would be, but stopped dead in her tracks when she entered the kitchen. Just like Callie said, there was a plate of pancakes and sausage sitting on the table, with a vase of roses in the middle. She was pretty positive those weren't there last night, the best part was that they were white roses, her favorite. Looking to the counter she saw the coffee maker with a sticky note hanging off of it.
Arizona, you like it black with a crap load of sugar.
Love, Callie (:
Callie's choice of words made her chuckle, and blush slightly. She did remember how she liked her coffee, but it was still cute that Callie felt the need to tell her. Arizona made her coffee and sat down to eat her amazing breakfast. Callie was totally right, hospital food was freaking terrible compared to hers. I could get used to this, she thought to herself yet again. When she was done cleaning up, she decided to be nosey for a while not really knowing when Callie was going to be home.
She limped into the living room, and took a deep breath. Last night's events re-playing in her mind over and over again. Even though what happened in here was awful, what happened afterwards was… amazing. She noticed how many Disney movies they had on the book shelf next to the television, maybe they had a thing for cartoons? She shrugged and moved to the hall. There was an array of picture frames hanging at all different levels on the wall, each one a memory she couldn't remember. There was one specific picture that made her heart skip a beat, it was a picture of her and Callie at their wedding, standing side by side in their wedding dresses. Callie looked so beautiful it took her breath away. Arizona rose her hand and traced the outline of Callie's dress, when a flash of bright lights invaded her mind, making her stumble backward. Her entire body setting itself on fire, then going numb. It was fuzzy but she could hear music playing and could smell the sweet smell that was purely Callie, and then it became clear. Arizona could feel the Latina's body pressed against hers swaying and could hear Callie whisper sweet nothings into her ear. When she moved her head back she could see Callie as plain as day in her big white gown, grinning her incredible, car stopping smile.
When Arizona came to, she felt tears running over her cheeks and falling to the floor. Her heart was pounding, as she reached up and clutched at her shirt. The feeling of pure love that she had on that day was rushing through her veins, making her entire body shake violently. Even though she had a cast on, she reached up grabbed a hold of the railing so she wouldn't fall to the ground, there was so much that happened in that moment. The feelings she had for Calliope, the way Callie felt while dancing, the way she smelled, the sound of her voice, the way her eyes sparkled and turned darker, and the way she looked in that dress. It was so much better than the picture, and it literally took her breath away this time, as she was trying to gasp for air.
After a few moments, Arizona was able to stand straight up on her own and calm down. She didn't know what to do, should she call Callie? Should she call her doctor? Arizona was so confused, it was a memory right? Callie did say they were married, so that's what it was their wedding day… right? Arizona started pacing up and down the hall way, trying to bring the memory back. She wanted to feel all of that happiness again, and wanted to see Callie's smile shining bright, because of her. She stopped and looked at all the other pictures, suddenly becoming frenzied and running her hands all over the other pictures, hoping it would spark something else. But when she got to the last picture she realized it wasn't going to work, and felt very frustrated. Wiping away the angry tears that had just fallen, she blinked and looked up at the large picture. It was of her and Callie, and a very dark haired little girl sitting on her lap. Arizona took the picture off the wall and held closer to her face, recognizing the dark eyes on the child. She was a spitting image of Callie, and couldn't help but smile.
She noticed that her own fingers were laced with the little girls, and her other arm was wrapped tightly around her waist. Callie wasn't even touching the girl, which meant somehow she knew the child. Right? She had to have known this girl at some point in time just by the way the dark haired beauty clung to Arizona's hand and arm, her smile just as big as Callie's was. She remembered that Callie had a small teddy bear in the crook of her arm when she came back into the room. Positioning the picture back on the wall she quickly moved up the stairs, and started searching rapidly for the bear. Flipping the covers off the bed, and throwing the pillows to the ground. She rounded the bed and looked underneath Callie's side and went through her drawers in the night stand. Coming across something that was definitely not a teddy bear, she shut the drawer with wide eyes and laughed so hard she had to hold her stomach, "Calliope Torres…"
"Yes?"
Arizona snapped her head around and saw a very amused Latina starring right back. The blonde got off her knee's and smoothed down her shirt, trying to play it off like she wasn't just going through Callie's private things. But they were married, so what's Callie's is Arizona's. That thought made a smile crack onto the blonde's face.
Callie put her hands on her hips and raised perfectly shaped eyebrows, "What are you smiling like that for?" It was nice to see Arizona happy, but the way things were going it was probably because she was caught doing something naughty. Which made her grin as well, and the outfit she picked out made her throat go dry. "You chose my favorite outfit…"
Arizona blushed hard, and took a step over all the blankets she threw on the floor almost falling on her face, before Callie caught her and drew the blonde in closer. "Well… that was supposed to be more seductive… but that failed." Arizona was blushing so hard her ears were turning red now too.
Callie thought Arizona blushing was so adorable, because she hadn't seen it since they started dating and became comfortable with each other. "Do you know why this is my favorite outfit?" She wanted that blush to stay as long as she could get it to stay. Arizona glided her hands down from Callie's shoulders and landed right above her elbows, arching her back when Callie's hand moved the small of her back. "This was the outfit you wore when you asked me if you were my girlfriend. We made it official that night." Just like that Arizona's cheeks were burning bright again, and dimples were flashing bright in Callie's face. Callie's breath hitched in the back of her throat when Arizona giggled.
"I need to tell you something." Arizona's voice was low, but Callie could tell that there was a hint of excitement peeking through. "I remembered something today…" Her voice was cut off by the sudden shock on Callie's face.
"What! Wha… what did you remember? How did you remember? When did it happen? Why didn't you call me, I would have come home sooner!" Callie ranted on.
Arizona's heart started fluttering violently in her chest, but in the best way possible. She reached up and placed her pointer finger on Callie's plump lips, silencing her goddess. "If you would shut up, I will tell you what is was…" She whispered. Callie smiled against her finger and kissed it away. Tightening her embrace to encourage her blonde to go on. Arizona bit her bottom lip and looked deeply into brown eyes, "I remember dancing with you at our wedding…" She spoke softly, just for the two of them to hear, even though they were the only two in the house.
For sure Callie knew Arizona saw her heart leap out of her chest. It wasn't a big memory, but enough to erase all the doubt she had boiling inside her. "You… that's what you remember?"
Arizona's eyes fell as she cocked her head to the side confused, "Is that not enough for you?" She took her eyes completely off the Latina and drew lazy circles on Callie's bicep.
Callie's mouth dropped open and quickly recovered her statement. "Enough? Arizona, that is so much more than enough. I just… I figured your first memory would be something like… I don't know what you ate the night the accident." Callie chuckled realizing how stupid she sounded and now she was the one blushing. "This is sooo much better."
Arizona gave Callie her best super magic smile, and wanted so badly to lean in and taste those plump pink lips that were just on her finger that was still tingling from her touch. But they both knew that it probably wasn't the right time just yet. Being this close to each other was a huge step in the first place, so another big step wasn't very ideal. Callie let Arizona out of her arms and turned her attention back to the messy room.
"What were you looking for?" Callie asked amused. Even when the old Arizona couldn't find something, she tore the whole house upside down until she found it.
Arizona, still recovering from the loss of contact, ran her fingers through messy blonde hair and giggled. "Uhh, well I got the memory back by touching our wedding picture. So… I went kind of crazy touching everything." She shifted her weight so that she was leaning against the wall, patting herself on the back for the nice cover up. She didn't want Callie to know that she kind of recognized the little girl in the picture, because she wasn't all too sure herself if she really did or not.
Callie nodded her head understanding, and started to pick up the blankets. Arizona quickly flew to her side and placed both hands on Callie's arm, "No! No, let me do it. I made the mess, let me do it!" Her tone was very serious and it made Callie laugh.
"I will help you, I really don't mind Arizona." Callie shook the blonde's hand off and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
Arizona blushed again and a small smile started to itch its way onto her face. They put the room back together and headed back down stairs. Callie noticed how good of a mood Arizona was in, and wanted to take advantage of it. Even if it was a bad idea, she wanted to revel in it while it lasted.
"How about we watch a movie?" Callie asked hoping she could just cuddle up with Arizona on the couch all day long.
Arizona's eyes grew a shade lighter and started sparkling. She didn't know why it made her so happy that butterflies were dancing in her stomach, but it did. "I would love that."
Callie grabbed two blankets just in case, and popped in Thelma and Louise. It was Arizona's favorite non-Disney movie, and it was one of the very few actual adult movies they had in the house. The brunette plopped herself on the couch and covered up with one of the blankets. Arizona came into the living room with two cups of coffee and set them down on the table in front of them. She stood straight up and looked at the couch, she saw the other blanket sitting there for her, but today she wasn't going to let her pride or whatever was holding her back get in the way. So, Arizona lifted the side of Callie's blanket and shifted her body so the she was molded against Callie's, gently putting the blanket over her body as well.
Callie's body went still once she figured out what Arizona was doing. She was prepared for the blonde to sit at the other end of the couch, as Callie nonchalantly inched closer throughout the movie. Arizona had different plans though, and planted her fragile body right against hers. Arizona crossed her leg and shifted more onto her left hip so her leg would land in between Callie's. She then grabbed Callie's right hand and intertwined their fingers, and laid her head in the crook of the brunette's neck. She always wondered what it felt like to be this close to Callie, and right now she was loving it.
Oh shoot! And so it begins, the road to recovery (; My readers you are the best, I absolutely love getting off work and seeing all of your ideas for the story. I love how invested you all are, and I am extremely grateful you are sticking with me (: Tomorrow is Grey's Day YAY!
