Ch. 10: The End…?
Tails was looking through a pair of binoculars. He saw the small explosion that caused the Death Egg to start falling. Then he saw something falling from the Death Egg.
"Sonic! Hang on, pal, I'm coming to save you!"
He rushed into the Tornado and took off.
Meanwhile
"Well this is gonna suck," Sonic said, as he fell through the air.
"I wonder if I can tap into the Chaos Emeralds without any rings, even for a brief moment."
Sonic concentrated…
"And I've got nothing…okay then."
"Need a lift?"
"Huh? Tails, you genius!"
"I know I am. I figured you could use a hand."
Sonic landed on the plane wings.
"Looks like we won again, buddy. I am excited now!"
*FLASH*
"Whoa! I went super!"
Sonic took off and flew next to the Tornado.
"You didn't need rings? Interesting…"
"I don't think it'll last very long without them. Now let's go home. I need food and a nap."
"But what about Robotnik and the Death Egg?"
"What about them? The Death Egg collapsed on its own because the doc wouldn't spring for a better battery."
"Yeah, but wouldn't people notice something that big falling to Earth?"
"It's probably at the bottom of the ocean by now, Tails. We'll deal with it later."
"Well, I guess you're right, but I think the doctor's got another trick up his sleeve."
"If he resurfaces, we'll take him down again. You and me, partner."
Tails gave a thumbs up as they headed home.
Back on the Death Egg
"All my fine work. All my brilliant planning. All of it ruined by that stupid hedgehog! Okay, so I might have launched the Death Egg prematurely, but he had all the Chaos Emeralds. If only I could have obtained one of them, it would've more than powered up my Death Egg. Well, I might as well pick up the pieces of my robot and Mecha Sonic and start thinking of a new plan. Still, it seems such a waste than my Death Egg crash into the ocean and be lost. It's still mostly intact."
*BOOM*
"What was that?!"
"It seems we've hit something, Doctor. A body of water."
"The ocean, you mean?"
"No, sir, smaller and shallower. It also appears we have not touched down on the planet."
"Not on the planet? How can that be? Where are we? Send me an Eggmobile."
Robotnik headed outside to check the damage.
"It seems we've landed in a lake."
He surveyed the Death Egg.
"These repairs will take a while. This is still all Sonic's fault. I hate that hedgehog!"
He landed on the ground and began kicking dirt, throwing rocks, and just screaming into the air.
"This is just so frustrating!"
Suddenly, he felt like he was being watched.
"Is someone there?"
He looked around. He thought he saw a pair of eyes in the bushes.
"Forget it. We're on land that isn't the planet. How is that possible? Wait…if I remember correctly, there was a legend about an island floating in the sky. It was said to hold a great power. Could this be…?"
"Who are you and what do you want?" said a voice.
Robotnik whirled around to face where the voice had come from.
"You're a…then it must be true. This must be that floating island from the stories."
"Yes, this is Angel Island. Now answer my questions."
"Calm down, my friend. I'm not here to cause trouble. You see, my spaceship is in need of repair."
"Well…fix it and get going."
"It will take some time. Perhaps with your help we can speed it along."
"I guess I'll do what I can."
"I am Doctor Ivo Robotnik, greatest scientific genius of all time! And you are…?"
"My name is Knuckles the Echidna, guardian of the Master Emerald."
A sneaky smile spread across the doctor's face.
"Master Emerald, you say? He, he, he, he, he."
