Chapter 4

Despite what Payson probably thought, one thing he wouldn't have changed was their kiss, yes it had been impulsive and dangerous and had nearly cost them both everything, he'd wanted her to and for a few brief seconds he'd kissed her back before his mind had reminded him how wrong it was which was when he pushed her away, but for that moment he'd gotten lost in the moment and he treasured it.

She'd grown into such an amazing woman, smart, brave, fierce, strong and beautiful, the fire in her eyes when she was arguing or wanted something badly, the way her face would set when she was going to do something no matter what, and he should've been ashamed but the way she looked in a leotard certainly wasn't unpleasant to the eye.

She'd moved on, had a boyfriend her own age who clearly adored her and loved her, he couldn't think of a single guy who would take the time to find and call her former coach because he knew he couldn't help her so he got someone who could.

That had been an odd phone call as Sasha thinks back to it.

His phone rang so he picked it up.

"Belov" he answered.

"Hi my name is Rigo, I'm Payson's boyfriend, look I know this is weird but she needs you, her coach has told her she can't go in as a front runner because she isn't strong enough, and after about twenty minutes of ranting she's decided to try and re-do her whole routine and since I'm BMX and not gymnastics I am about as useful as a chocolate fireguard, she doesn't know I called you but I know you can help her, she idolises you and right now she needs your help, badly" explains Rigo.

For a few moments Sasha had needed to process.

"Your Payson's boyfriend?" clarifies Sasha.

"Yeah so can you help her because trust me she needs it and she needs it fast" replies Rigo.

"Alright, I'll be up there by this evening, question though, how did you get my number?" asks Sasha.

"Payson's phone" replies Rigo.

"Ah, okay well I'll let you know when I arrive and I assume I will find her in the gym?" asks Sasha.

"She has yet to leave" confirms Rigo.

"How typical, goodbye Rigo" says Sasha as he hangs up the phone.

He'd gotten into his car and driven up to the training centre that day and when he'd arrived as expected he found Payson in the gym trying a new routine.

"So what did you think?" asks Payson looking at who he assumed was Rigo.

"I loved it" he smiles.

"Can you be a bit more specific?" she asks.

"The flippy bit was cool and the double Iranian" he nods.

Payson jumps up and kisses him; "I love you but your useless" she smiles stepping back.

Sasha chooses that moment to walk in.

"You're not getting the proper set for the height you need to land the double arabian, you're falling out of the switch side, the dance moves need more flow and there's no kissing during practice, shall I continue?" he asks walking into the room.

"Sasha what are you doing here?" she asks.

Your friend Rigo gave me a call, told me what was going on" explains Sasha.

She turns to look at him and he looks down at her and the love just shines out of both of them.

"You're taking a big risk defying Coach McIntire" warns Sasha.

"He's wrong about me, I'm no sacrificial lamb" replies Payson her face setting into her what he called her stubborn face.

"I know Payson, but he's the Olympic coach, and if you go against his wishes, he could keep you of the team entirely" adds Sasha.

"I didn't fight all these years just for a trip to London, isn't a gold medal worth the risk?" she demands.

"Well this may sound selfish but I would like my gold medal back" he says.

Payson looks shattered for a second so he continues.

"And that will likely only happen when you win one of your own. So let's get busy shall we?" he says.

He turns to Rigo, "Romeo beat it, we've got work to do" he orders.

Payson looks at him and places a hand on his arm they both smile and he walks out.

Payson turns back to him still smiling.

"Come on then" he says.

Her face drops to sheepish as she turns onto the mat.

As he watches her now he's glad Rigo had called him, the smile and look of sheer joy on her face when she'd received her medals had made everything worth it, and he had never felt so proud than the moment he watched three of his girls, his rock rebels step onto that podium to receive their medals.
