Chapter 12
What Kelly did not expect the next morning when she walked into the kitchen was to see Payson passed out on the sofa in the same clothes as she'd been in last night.
"Payson" calls Kelly as she hurries over to Payson frantically checking for breathing and a pulse, then Payson mumbles something and Kelly breathes a sigh of relief.
Then she looks at the bottle of vodka and sees it's almost empty and the shot glass was on the floor in pieces.
"Crap" swears Kelly as she sits next to Payson.
She tried to decide what to do.
"Payson, Payson you need to wake up" calls Kelly shaking her friend who doesn't even stir.
"Payson" yells Kelly a little louder light slapping Payson's face, still no response.
"Crap" repeats Kelly.
Then Payson mumbles something.
"What?" asks Kelly leaning closer.
"Sasha" mumbles Payson.
"Oh shit" sighs Kelly as she realises Payson drunk herself into oblivion because of what she had said.
"I don't know" mumbles Payson.
Kelly knew she had to get Payson into bed and get some water into her, but after a few attempts she realised Payson outweighed her in muscle mass and she wasn't going to be able to move her.
Kelly ran through her options.
Rigo was out of town, and she needed another person to help her move Payson.
"Shit" sighs Kelly again as she realises she only has one option and it was the very reason Payson was in this state to begin with.
Well she couldn't leave Payson like this, she'd just have to hope Payson didn't do or say something she'd regret.
Kelly picks up her phone and dials Sasha.
"Hello" he answers.
"Hi Sasha, it's Kelly, I need your help" she says.
"With what?" asks Sasha.
"I need you to help me move Payson" she replies.
"Move her, oh my god did you kill her?" asks Sasha.
"No she's still alive, but she's currently in drunken oblivion and I can't move her myself, please help" pleads Kelly.
"Alright" says Sasha.
"I know it's weird I promise I'll explain just hurry please" begs Kelly.
Ten minutes later Sasha knocked on the door and it was opened by Kelly.
"Oh thank god" sighs Kelly as she pulls him inside.
"What the hell is going on?" demands Sasha.
They walk into the living room and he sees Payson strewn on the couch, a shatter shot glass under her hand and an almost empty bottle of vodka on the table.
"She's in a drunken stupor" supplies Kelly.
"I can see that, why, I've never seen Payson touch so much as a glass of champagne at parties, why the hell is passed out from vodka?" clarifies Sasha.
"It's a long story" replies Kelly.
"Well tell me" says Sasha.
"Okay I got a letter from my mom and it wasn't pleasant so Payson and I had a few shots to comfort me, and then I may have said some things I shouldn't have and then I fell asleep, next thing I know this morning is that Payson drank most of that bottle of vodka and is in the current state she is, so this is probably very largely my fault" admits Kelly.
"What could you have said that would've caused Payson to do this?" demands Sasha.
"Can we get her into bed first?" asks Kelly.
"Fine" sighs Sasha as he walk over to the couch and pulls Payson up and into his arms as he carries her to her room.
He lays her gently on the bed; Kelly pulls off her shoes and slides the blankets over her before setting a glass of water by the bed.
They walk out and shut the door behind them.
"Now tell me what did you say" orders Sasha.
"Why does that matter?" asks Kelly.
"Because like I said Payson doesn't touch alcohol and whatever you said upset her enough to cause her to get drunk, I want to know because I care" replies Sasha.
"Well I may have mentioned you and her, and how you feel about each other and maybe told her that you two have feelings for each other" mutters Kelly sheepishly.
"You did what?" he almost yells.
"I'm sorry I was tipsy and we were talking about how the people Payson had to support her and then we got onto the subject of you and I asked her if she still had feelings for you and she didn't answer and her already slightly addled mind may have turned to this option in order to stop thinking about it" says Kelly.
"Jesus Kelly, really?" he asks running his hand through his hair.
"Like I said alcohol and I wasn't in a good frame of mind anyway, I never dreamed she'd do this, I was kind of trying to help because I've seen how you two are with each other, you love her Sasha I can see it, and she loves you as well, but she's hiding from her feelings because she loves Rigo and she remembers what happened last time" says Kelly in a rush.
Sasha just looks at Kelly open mouthed.
"Don't bother denying it, I know okay, question is what are you going to do about it?" asks Kelly.
"Nothing, she has Rigo and I won't have her name sullied by me, if anything happened and the press got wind then it could cause untold fall out, what if people assume we've been together since that moment, it could bring so much into question and not to sound like a parrot but she's in love with Rigo Kelly, he's better for her than I am, he's her age, their relationship isn't a public scandal, and it isn't tainted by the fact millions of people are judging it, last time it almost cost us everything and it hurt Payson, a lot, I won't do that to her again, I won't drag her down that road Kelly, so nothing is going to happen, yes I love her Kelly I always have but I shouldn't, she is ten years younger than me, she was still a girl when I fell in love with her, it is wrong for me to feel this way about her, it isn't healthy or normal or right, Rigo is, and she loves him, not me" says Sasha.
"She loves you as well Sasha, I know she does, she never stopped and yes she loves Rigo but what she has with him isn't the same as what she has with you, he may have been the first guy she slept with, but you were her first love and that doesn't go away, no matter how hard you try and convince yourself otherwise, and you know how I know because I may or may not have given her huge grief over it after you left, and she never denied you being her first love, and if you don't deal with it then at some point it is going to explode out of both of you and then god knows what the fall out will be, your not her coach anymore Sasha, the NGO no longer controls her fate, you're both adults so for god sake stop acting like children" snaps Kelly.
"We're done talking about this Kelly, so please stop going on about it, there is nothing romantic between Payson and I, nor will there ever be" says Sasha standing up.
"Fine, but when this blows up I'll say I told you so, now I'm going to take a shower, so you can let yourself out" says Kelly as she turns and stalks into the bathroom.
Sasha rubs his hand across his eyes, with a sigh he's about to leave but then decides to check for himself Payson is alright.
He walks into her room and sits next to her sleeping form.
"This is not how I ever expected to see you" he chuckles.
"Sasha" she mumbles.
"I'm sorry Payson, this can't happen" he sighs as she strokes a stray strand of hair from her forehead before standing up and kissing her forehead.
"I love you" she mumbles.
In that second his heart stops as he looks at her.
"I love you too" he replies.
Then just like before he pushes the joy away, she didn't need him, like this, she needed a friend and that was all they'd be, she wouldn't remember any of this anyway.
He walks out and heads home.
As he leaves Kelly walks out of the bathroom having heard what he said.
"This is going to be such a shit storm" she sighs.
A/N Due to the very short nature of the last chapter and the fact I'm feeling a bit stressed here is the next one as well, this is one of my favourite chapters in the whole story, so please enjoy and let me know what you think, reviews make me feel better :)
