Chapter 8
-Beth's POV
I could feel daddy glaring at us.
"Angel stop shaking," Merle whispered. "Yah gonna be alright m'kay." I nodded.
"He's staring at us," I said back.
"I know angel. Everyone is basically starin at us," I gulped.
"Not helpin Merle," I hissed.
"Sorry," Merle squeezed my hand.
All the sudden I heard the sound of my daddy's crutches nearing us. I could feel my pulse quicken and myself breathing harder.
"Bethy?" I didn't look. "Beth what are you doing?" His voice wasn't raised, but it was firm.
"What do yah mean?" I asked softly.
"What are you doing with this man?"
I knew that everyone had their eyes on us and their ears.
"I'm I not allowed to be with the man I love?" I retorted, my voice a little stronger.
"Love?" I still didn't look up at my daddy. "Bethy you don't know anything about love. You don't even know-"
"Don't," I cut him off. I was angry now. "Don't tell me I don't know what love is." My daddy looked taken back.
"Beth-" Maggie's voice echoed.
"No. Don't you even start Maggie," I snapped. "I don't need any of your shit. Not now and not ever. I don't need any of y'all bullshit. I can love anyone I want to. I ain't a little girl anymore. So stop treating me like one. This is my life, my choices, not yours."
"Calm down," That was Glenn's voice.
"No. I'm not goin to calm down! I can't. If you don't approve of Merle and I… we don't give a damn. If you want to hurt him… y'all gonna talk and get through me first." Glenn looked at me like I was crazy.
"Does he love you?" That seemed to throw me off balance.
"What?"
"Does Merle love you?" Glenn asked again.
"Yes," Mine and Merle's word synced. Glenn eyed me.
"Is it real?" I nodded.
"Do you love him?"
"Yes," I said barely above a whisper.
"Then I guess there's nothing wrong with you two being together," Glenn said. That astonished me, left me in shock.
"Glenn why would you say that?" Maggie barked.
"If they really love each other… then I trust him to make the right decisions with her," Then Glenn turned and left. Maggie turned back to us and glared before running after Glenn.
"When?" I looked back at my daddy.
"For months now," Merle answered.
"Why just now expose yourselves?"
"Don't wanna hide no more," My daddy nodded.
"I'm not gonna give you my blessing," Daddy growled. After that he walked away.
Everyone went back to their own things.
"They all hate us," I whispered feeling hot tears sting my eyes.
"No angel," Merle whispered softly and calming into my ear. "They hate me."
-Glenn's POV
I walked, more like stormed out of the cafeteria. I knew Maggie was going to be angry as hell at me for what I said, but I don't really care.
Don't care? I asked myself. Why wouldn't I care… Maggie's my wife. Yeah well, if you don't remember Glenn you LIKE the other Greene girl. Stop. Why stop… you know if I stop I'll just send some pretty little pictures of the younger Greene girl, right? Stop.
"Glenn!" I continued walking ignoring Maggie's call. "Glenn, stop." I turned to face my wife.
"Why?" I snapped.
"Why what?"
"Why do you want me to stop?" I barked.
"Glenn," She paused. "What you just gave the 'okay' to isn't right." I glared at Maggie.
"Isn't right?" I asked. "What isn't right is that you keep making my choices." Maggie glared at me.
"What did you just say?"
"All you ever do is control my life! Even during sex Maggie! Do you think that's fun or even pleasurable for me? Do you think I like being controlled?"
"Well if I get so controlling for you… why don't you just leave me!" She yelled. I flinched at the words that came out of her mouth. She seemed to notice too. "Glenn… I-I didn't mean it like-"
"No that's what you meant Maggie," I whispered. "I guess I'll just leave then, right?" Maggie shook her head.
"No. I didn't mean it," She tried. "Please." I looked Maggie right in the eyes.
"No," I said, turning and leaving her alone.
