A/N: another update this ones a bit shorter sorry, please review and let me know what you think.
Amy lay back in her bed and grinned from ear to ear. She touched her lips where Miles's had been before covering her face with embarrassment. She thought back to there first meeting. He had tried to be charming then and made a fool of him self since then. But he was persistent. Never harsh to her, never took her jokes to heart. Because they were the same in a way, she would be sweet, play innocent or charm people with her wit and he did the same. He was dashing and funny and true. Not five minutes after Miles's departure Tom entered the tent.
"Is there a reason I just saw Miles looking like the cat who got the cream?" Amy laughed,
"Well he didn't get anything from me." Tom frowned.
"You've got it to, that look." Amy raised her eyebrows and Tom dropped the point. "How do you feel?" Amy sat up instantly.
"Fine, I'm fine. How's Jamie, is he awake, can I see him." Tom laughed.
"There's a reason I came to get you, now get up lazy he'll be waking up soon." Amy jumped up quickly and had to steady her self before putting her shoes on and leaving the tent. It was much later than when she'd entered and the autumn sky was an inky blue. As they reached the wooden walkways Amy noticed the lack of staff and realised it must be dinner time. As the entered the first tent Amy gestured to the last bowl of food on the trolley and Tom nodded. She picked it up and hurried from bed to bed until she saw Flora talking to Jamie. On seeing Amy Flora grinned.
"Look who it is." Jamie turned his head and let out a big smile.
"Amy!" He called out. Amy smiled her real smile and place a finger to her lips to shh him as other patients grumbled at the noise.
"Sorry." He whispered as Amy sat in the chair next to his bed. She held up the bowl to him but he shook his head.
"Not yet."
"Jamie." Tom said in a warning tone.
"So you found 'im then." Jaimie grinned at Amy nodding towards his elder brother.
"It's me, o'course I did." She said hitting his arm. Tom shook his head.
"You got a lot to thank our sister for," Jamie looked at her and she looked at Tom.
"What does he mean Amy?"
"Nothing I helped in surgery is all." Tom laughed and shook his head.
"Come now Amy this is no time for modesty, our sister gave you her blood." Jamie looked amazed. He didn't understand the human anatomy and would have no real clue what they'd done besides sewing up the cut but he new what she'd done was big.
"You gave me your blood?" Amy was touched by his innocence. His blue eyes stared at her. In his wounded state he was like a child again. Knowing it wouldn't be long before he was up boisterous as ever she wrapped an arm around him and kissed the top of his head. He sat up now and started telling them about what had happened. His story was long and exaggerated in places and in others they all wished it was. Once he'd finished Tom insisted he ate.
"Why'd you care all a sudden." He snapped back. Amy rubbed his arm and shook her head asking him to leave it. "Sorry, I missed you Tommy." Tom smiled nodding his head briefly then he departed to check on his other patients.
"Come on you, eat up, I want you out there kicking a ball around by tomorrow." She said bringing the spoon up to his lips. He took in a swallowed.
"I can do that here." He grinned.
"This isn't a prison Jamie. You'll have a few days here then they'll send you back to a training camp." She said giving him more food.
"But I need to get back up the line." He contested. Trying to stand up.
"All in good time, what use are you injured?" Jaimie smiled and ate the rest of his food unaided. They sat and spoke for a while longer before he drifted off. Amy carefully brushed his curls of hair off his forehead. Amy and Jaimie had both inherited their mother's curls but Jamie's grew at an alarming rate. Next she pulled the extra blanket up to his chin and kissed his forehead as she stood up. Just then Sister Quayle enter the ward. She had been one of the only members of staff not to be taken by Amy, in fact she had often stated how she didn't think it appropriate for her to be working alongside her brother.
"Nurse Gillan," she remarked in a raised whisper, "what an earth do you think you are doing." Amy turned to her standing straight and proud. "I don't know what you were taught in civilian hospitals, but out here we nurses conduct ourselves with a manner of decorum." Amy suppressed a smirk.
"With all due respect, I have been in many more field hospitals than I have civilian ones, Sister Quayle." The senior nurse raised her eyebrow but Amy continued. "This fine soldier here, is my brother,"
"What is this, a Gillan family reunion?" She said laughing lightly, Amy's face stayed a blank canvas. Quayle cleared her throat. "I'm glad I found you here, Matron would like to know where you disappeared off to today." Amy frowned.
"I worked through the night."
"Then why did you not take your leave in the morning and be back to work like the rest of us."
"I was needed in surgery." She protested.
"Oh indeed and yet the surgeons seemed to be able to carry on. Your other brother only just clocked off." Amy frowned at Sister Quayle too sweet voice. Another voice interrupted there conversation.
"Hey you, my sister gave me her blood, she saved me, the least she deserves is the afternoon off." Jamie had sat back up and was staring hard at the Sister. Amy hung her head in defeat before turning to her brother.
"Go back to sleep Jamie." He fell back in to the mattress as Amy walked to leave the ward. Sister Quayle hot on her heels.
"Is he telling the truth, did you give that boy your blood."
"He'd lost so much blood, Tom was trying to save him." She said quickly not thinking.
"Captain Gillan treated him?"
"No, sorry, I meant Captain Hesketh-Thorne, Tom just took my blood." Sister Quayle nodded,
"Let's see what the Colonel has to say about this. Be outside his office tomorrow morning 8 sharp." She walked away then leaving Amy alone in the dark.
