Fixing Mistakes

Chapter 12 - Reunion

Caroline and Klaus's eyes were locked on one another. Klaus's stare was full of anger and hurt, Caroline's was full of love and regret. She was afraid she would never see him again. Her first instinct was to run into his arms and just hold him against her but she knew that was not a good idea. If she didn't already know how Klaus, the vampire, reacts to perceived betrayals then the look in his eyes would have stopped her dead. He looks so betrayed that her heart was broken. Her eyes filled with tears at the pain in his, oh Klaus...

Klaus stared at Caroline, his heart beating a staccato at the sight of her, he believed that she was dead, and had been for the last six-hundred years. The only thing he had left of her was her wedding ring which hung around his neck on a leather strap and had never been removed in centuries. He had missed her with a wrenching pain in his heart every day since he believed she died. She had left him with a hole in his soul which could never be filled, she was his soul mate and could never be replaced. The few times he had tried had left him even emptier than he was before, when the loneliness was too hard to take and he craved just the feeling of another person, he had found himself a willing whore; not a blonde though, never a blonde as he couldn't stand looking into a face that wasn't Caroline's with hair the colour of the Sun, and took the woman to his bed for a meaningless fuck and more often than not he would drain the woman dry just for not being his Caroline. And now all that was for nothing? Caroline was alive and well before him, perfect, as if nothing had ever happened to her. And she is a vampire, his subconscious whispered, impossible! Klaus argued, We were turned after she died. He could not wrap his head around that fact. Caroline could not possibly be a vampire. It was impossible.

Rebekah didn't know what to feel, she was utterly numb. Her brother and sister-in-law were miraculously alive after over six centuries of believing them to be dead. She had grieved for them both, losing Caroline and Henrik on the same night had devastated Rebekah's entire family, Klaus had been damned near catatonic after he found Caroline's ring and Henrik's shoes in the forest with blood nearby. That had been the beginning of the end of the Mikaelson's as they were, innocent and human, soon after that night they were changed into vampires and their lives had never been the same. What were once the closest of siblings had fractured to a barely tolerable argumentative hating of one another. Klaus had become stifling, he hated when she or Elijah expressed an interest in love or God forbid leaving. His obsession with breaking his curse had torn their family to shreds, Finn was daggered and locked in a coffin, Kol had run at his earliest convenience, it was only Elijah and herself whom remained at Klaus's side through the years. Rebekah's lips curled as she gazed at Caroline thoughts running wild inside her. Perhaps now that she had returned Klaus would lessen in his overbearingness, maybe that would now transfer to Caroline, surely now that she was back in his life he wouldn't dare to let her go, would he? He wouldn't make the mistake of letting his foolish pride get in the way now that the love of his life was back. She knew Klaus would feel betrayed but, he and Caroline were soul mates, not even six-hundred years apart could break a bond as strong as that. Once he got over his hurt he would take Caroline back and never let her go. He'd be too busy with her to care what she and Elijah did. Wouldn't he? As troubling as those thoughts were Rebekah just didn't know the answer anymore.

Elijah felt torn, conflicted beyond reason. Caroline and Henrik were alive! His baby brother whom he had grieved and ached for was alive and here and human. Yet, Caroline was a vampire, one not made by his hands and surely not by Finn, Kol, Rebekah or Klaus's either, so how could she possibly stand before him as such? As vampire as he and his family but not an Original. How could that be possible? How could Henrik still be human and not a day older than when he last saw him. He creased his brow in thought, and if he was not mistaken, wearing the exact clothes as he last saw him in. There was no possible way for Henrik to be a human and Caroline a vampire. Don't get him wrong, Elijah was ecstatically happy that they were both alive and well but he needed to know HOW. How were Caroline and Henrik alive and how was Caroline a vampire when Henrik was still human. Those questions ate at him and he needed them answered. If not for his own sake then for Klaus, he looked on the verge of an explosion as he looked at Caroline. Elijah knew how much her "death" had affected Klaus, how he could not look at another blonde without wanting to rip out her throat, how he had grown colder and crueler as he made his curse his sole priority, and how he could not bare to let himself and Rebekah leave him. He was scared of ending up alone that he did not realize that he had pushed them both away, though Elijah could never give up on his brother, on any of his family. They were his greatest weakness and greatest strength all at the same time. All he wanted was for them to be whole again, be the brothers and sisters that he used to have.

The silence finally got to Caroline, the oppressing feel of the room making it so uncomfortable that she had to break the silence. Clearing her throat she tried to smile but found it impossible under Klaus's heavy stare. Her voice shaking she finally spoke, "Hi." Not the greatest opener in the world but it would have to do, "How have you been?" She could have rolled her eyes at how pathetic she sounded, really Caroline? "How have you been?" Seriously! How lame can you get? Six-hundred years apart and that's the best you can come up with?

"How have I been?" Klaus thundered, his eyes deep pools of unimaginable pain, "How do you think I'd feel after loosing my brother and wife on the same day?"

Caroline flinched.

"I have felt the pain from that moment every single day since. I have had to live knowing that my soul mate was dead." Klaus stalked closer to Caroline but not too close, he didn't think he would be able to control himself if he touched her, "I blamed myself for your deaths!" Without his permission tears clouded his eyes, "I carried the guilt inside me for decades," he looked off to the side as harrowing memories assaulted him, "until that guilt, my failures, nearly destroyed me. Nearly crushed what was left of my soul."

The Five! Caroline gasped as she understood what Klaus meant, he's talking about the Hunter's curse. Her eyes clenched shut with horror, he was tormented with visions of me and Henrik for, she felt torn apart herself as she recalled what Elena told her about how long Klaus had suffered from the Hunter's curse, over fifty years. How could she begin to make it up to him? First she left him alone and then for fifty years a vision of her tried to get him to kill himself. A tear rolled down her cheek, she could read between the lines of what Klaus was saying, SHE had been the one to almost destroy him. More tears rolled down her cheeks as guilt almost overwhelmed her, she had been one of the things to destroy him.

Klaus felt enraged at the sight of Caroline's tears. Whether it was because he didn't think she deserved to shed tears for him after she left him or because it was his Caroline whom shed them he did not know, he just knew that he didn't like it. Not wanting to show any possible weakness in front of his previously dead wife he snapped at her, "Dry your tears, love, they mean nothing to me." He felt terrible at the hurt in her eyes, but still he twisted the knife, not caring that he was twisting the blade into his own heart as well, "You mean nothing to me anymore." He smirked, hiding behind his Klaus persona as he protected his heart from further damage while also causing himself irreparable heartbreak at the same time, "Why would I want you when I could have my pick of princesses, Queen's and noble women?" He turned to leave, stopping at the doorway he turned his head and threw one last shot at Caroline, "Why would I ever want a common whore like you?" The last thing he saw before he left was absolute devastation on Caroline's face, disappointment on Elijah's and incredulousness on Rebekah's face. He had just put the final nail in the coffin of his marriage.

Caroline could only stare at the doorway from where Klaus left, tears running unchecked down her cheeks, heartbreak written on her every feature. Klaus just called me a whore, she knew he didn't meant it, she knew Klaus; past, present and future versions, she KNEW that he lashed out at the people he loved when he was hurt but still, it hurt, it hurt so damn much. She felt like she had lost him, which was ridiculous, if she wanted him she had to only just find him, somewhere in this ridiculously large castle. But what would she find? Her Niklaus? Or Klaus? Would she receive another tongue lashing or would he listen to her once they were alone. She wasn't sure. His remark about sleeping with other woman had stung, she knew that it had been centuries for him but still, the thought of him enjoying another woman's body made her want to find said whore and rip her throat out. Klaus was hers and he always would be, be it as human, vampire, hybrid and beyond. He was hers! If he even dared to bring another woman into his bed while she was here he had another thing coming, he was allowed to be mad at her but she wouldn't tolerate him cheating on her. She would kill them both! Unbeknownst to her she let out a growl.

Elijah startled at the sound coming out of Caroline's throat, the vampiric growl so foreign coming out of his previously human sister-in-law. He stared fascinated as the veins rippled around her eyes, the sight ultimate proof of Caroline's new nature. She had truly been made a vampire. But the question still remained, whom actually turned Caroline?

Rebekah sighed. Klaus was an idiot just as she'd always known. Even after six-hundred years he still loved and missed Caroline with every fiber of his being. His talk of sleeping around was absolute bollocks, she knew for a fact that he had only slept with a handful of women over the years. His heart still too broken to attempt to give it to another. He put on a show in front of other vampires, kissing and groping some random girl, but at the end of the night he either killed her or compelled her to think that they'd had sex. His heart and body belonged to Caroline and he had just let his pride get in the way of repairing his tattered heart. Idiot.

Caroline took deep breaths as she tried to stop crying. She knew the pain of Klaus's insults would hurt for a long time to come but it was time to pull on her game face and try to get the stubborn ass to forgive her. She chuckled, at least now there was a version of Klaus that she knew very well, she could handle him and his overwhelming need to hurt her, but she wouldn't take it lying down, he was going to get as good as he gives. After all, he had chased after her for years in the future perhaps it was her turn to do the leg work. Feeling somewhat better she wiped the tears from her eyes and finally asked, "Where is Henrik?"

"He is in a room on the other wing." Rebekah answered, she shared a look with Elijah before adding, "We didn't want him to hear any arguing."

"Good idea." Caroline agreed, "I wouldn't want him to hear what Niklaus said. It would only confuse him further." She glanced at Elijah and asked, "What have you told him about what you've become? Does he know that you are vampires?"

"There was not much time for talking." Elijah answered, the shock from seeing Henrik alive still not completely left his body.

"What do you mean?" Caroline wrinkled her brow in confusion, not understanding what Elijah meant.

Elijah shared a silent communication with Rebekah before answering Caroline, "When one of our vampires, Liam, came in to see us about a problem he encountered he had you thrown over his shoulder and he carried a bleeding Henrik under his arm..." He told Caroline the story of what happened earlier.

Earlier on...

Elijah, Klaus and Rebekah were each lounging on a chair in their drawing room as they relaxed the day away. Elijah was reading, the book against his foot as he placed his ankle against his knee. Rebekah was lying against the love seat as she ran a brush through her long hair, the rhythmic movements soothing her. Klaus was sat on his chair with pencil in hand and pad on his lap as he sketched. A glass of blood on the table in front for each of them. For once all was calm between the siblings as they shared the room in tranquil silence.

Until they were interrupted when Liam burst through the door with an unconscious blonde over his shoulder and a crying bloody child under his arm, "Sorry to interrupt boss but I thought you'd like to meet the bitch vampire who tried to stop me feeding on this boy." He unceremoniously dropped her body on the nearby sofa while pushing the boy in the middle of the room.

A gasp was heard as the occupants of the room took in the face of the boy. In the next second Liam was against the wall Klaus's hand wrapped around his throat like a vice. Desperately he tried to claw at Klaus's hand with no luck, Liam was trapped, "Boss?"

Klaus's eyes spit fire as he tightened his fist ever tighter, "Where did you find them?"

"In the woods." Liam answered, terrified that he was about to lose his heart at Klaus's hands. What had he done wrong?

Henrik was still crying as he clutched the wound at his neck trying to stop the bleeding. Barely seeing through his tears he could barely make out the figures in the room. He thought he must be hallucinating from blood loss as he was positive he saw Klaus holding the evil man who'd bit him against the wall, Rebekah and Elijah were staring at him as if they'd seen a ghost. Surely he must be seeing things, his family was dead, they must have been for a very long time. It had been six-hundred years.

Rebekah finally snapped out of her stupor as she gazed at her long dead brother. Not wanting Henrik's first image of them to be of Klaus's blood thirsty ways, she picked him up in her arms and flashed him to another wing of the house. She placed him on the bed and seeing the holes in his neck she grew angry at Liam for daring to hurt her little brother. Raising her finger to her lip she pierced the digit with her fang and gently brushed it along his throat, sighing with relief as the marks healed. He would be just fine.

Henrik stared in awe, "Bekah? Is it truly you?"

"Yes!" Rebekah replied, smiling in happiness as sobs caught in her throat, "It is I." Shakily she ran her hands through Henrik's brown locks, staring in awe at the fact her little brother was in fact alive, "My little butterfly came home."

Henrik grinned at the nickname.

Rebekah threw her arms around Henrik and sobbed into his shoulder, "I have missed you." Feeling Henrik's arms hold her tight she knew what she must do. She had to protect him from any shouting and arguing that may occur. Pulling back just enough to look in his eyes she caught his gaze and compelled, "Sleep, Henrik, sleep until the morrow comes."

Henrik eyes fluttered until finally closing as he slumped in Rebekah's arms. She laid him on the bed and covered him with a blanket. Kissing his forehead a tear came to her eyes as she gazed at his sweet face, "Goodnight, Henrik." She ran her finger down his soft cheek, "Welcome home, my little butterfly."

Rebekah shut the door and whooshed back to her brothers. Klaus still had Liam against the wall his vampire features on his face. Retaking her seat she asked, "Henrik is asleep in the other wing. I compelled him so he will not wake," she glared at Liam anger boiling in her veins, "no matter how loud some of us become."

Liam became terrified at the rage on all of the Original's faces. With pure desperation he cried, "What have I done?"

Klaus tilted his head and smirked, "You fed off of our brother." He dug his fingernails into Liam's throat drawing blood, "For that you die." He pounced his fangs sinking into his neck as he drained him dry, Liam's screams dying down to whimpers until finally he hung limp in Klaus's arms. Grabbing his head he twisted hard and removed Liam's head from his body, throwing the corpse to the ground he wiped the blood from his mouth and said, "Get someone to remove him." He sat back down and gazed at Caroline's prone form on the couch.

Once another vampire had come and removed Liam's body Klaus began to pace. He could not stare at Caroline any longer. His anger had been building as he stared at the beautiful face of his love. How was she here? Why was she here? And how was Henrik alive? Running his hands over his face in agitation he roared, "What is the meaning of this?"

"They should be dead!" Rebekah screamed, the roaring emotions inside of her finally bubbling over.

Elijah tried to calm Klaus as it wouldn't do for him to be in a rage when Caroline woke, "Brother..."

A sharp breath was heard.

As one Elijah, Rebekah and Klaus turned to Caroline as she woke.

"...then you woke." Elijah finished his story, a smile on his lips as he added, "I believe you are aware of events after that."

"Yeah." Caroline could not believe what went on while she had been unconscious. She was not surprised that the vampire, Liam, had been killed by Klaus for hurting Henrik. She didn't like that Rebekah had compelled Henrik but after what was done and said by Klaus she was glad that she had. All of a sudden her stomach growled, indicating that the rabbit had well and truly been used up. Tucking her hair behind her ear she asked Elijah, "You wouldn't happen to have any blood, would you? I am hungry."

"Of course." Elijah complied with Caroline's request and brought her his untouched glass of blood. Handing it over he reassured her, "I have not touched a drop. You are welcome to it."

Caroline accepted the glass off of Elijah, "Thank you." She swallowed as the smell of human blood drifted under her nose. She would have to decide very soon just what exactly she was going to drink from now on, as there was no blood bags in this time and she was not sure just what kind of animals roamed about. She was not Stefan, she could control herself around human blood. It didn't control her. Taking one last whiff of the blood she brought the glass to her lips and sighed in contentment as she finally had something substantial in her stomach.

Elijah studied Caroline closely. Even though her body clearly craved the blood she had the control to sip the blood and not gulp it down. That told him that she was not a newborn, that she had some years on her, but did she have six centuries worth of control? He didn't think so. If that were so it raised an interesting question, if she wasn't six-hundred years old how exactly did she come to be a vampire? Finally needing to ask at least something he inquired, "How long has it been since you've ate?"

Caroline lowered her half empty glass, "I had a rabbit this morning."

"Ew!" Rebekah crinkled her nose in disgust, "Why would you possibly eat a rabbit with humans everywhere."

"I was hungry!" Caroline defended, her eyes shifted as she lied, "There were no humans around."

Elijah didn't quite believe Caroline but he decided to let it rest for now, he would question her later. Returning to his earlier question he repeated, "How long was it before the rabbit?"

Caroline sighed, "That is a long and complicated answer that I think Niklaus should hear first." She frowned as she recalled his stand offish behaviour, "That is if he will listen to me first."

"My brother is a stubborn ass." Rebekah stated, Klaus could be barely tolerable at times but as much as she loathed him she also loved him. That was the curse she would never be cured from, no matter how much she wished she could forsake her brother she just couldn't, she loved him and she always would. As it was when they turned it would forever be the same. Always and forever.

"Niklaus always had a soft spot for you, Caroline." Elijah smiled at Caroline, his eyes reassuring, "No matter how long it takes I'm sure you will get through to him. You always could." He thought he should add, "In the years since you've seen Niklaus he has taken a new moniker. He prefers to be called Klaus now."

Caroline's head shot up, "Klaus?" Elijah nodded in reply. A huge grin covered Caroline's face as she released a laugh of relief. She hadn't changed the future by calling him Klaus well before he was meant to, also knowing the connotation that the name held toward Klaus in regard to her use of it she came to one hopeful conclusion. He still loved her. Why else would he use that name when it was just between the two of them when he was human, he must have taken the name to keep some part of their love alive, no matter that he was always meant to be called Klaus, Caroline took it as a sign to keep her hope. It may take a while but he would forgive her and they could be happy again.

Rebekah eyed Caroline strangely as she laughed with a huge smile on her face, "Are you well, Caroline? Why do you smile at the news of Nik's name change?"

"Something that was between him and I." Caroline kept the smile on her face as she answered Rebekah.

"Alright. If you are sure?"

"I am." Caroline finally felt the day catch up to her as she suddenly yawned. Laughing quietly she asked, "Is there a room I could use?"

"Of course." Elijah stood and held his hand out to Caroline, "May I escort you, sister?"

Caroline could not help but smile as Elijah addressed her as sister again, she was so happy that he still viewed her as family. Taking his arm she replied, "I would love that, brother." She bid Rebekah goodnight and followed Elijah down the hall.

Elijah remained quiet until he entered the spare bedroom with Caroline, "There are a few of Rebekah's clothes in the bureau." He waited for Caroline to inspect the clothing and pull out a few garments before speaking again, he had recalled a conversation from long ago, "Caroline? I think I may have an inkling as to what you are hiding."

Caroline's head shot up and panicked look crossed her face, "What?"

Elijah leant against the wall and crossed his arms across his chest, "I met a woman almost sixty years ago whom was extremely similar to Tatia," he smirked at Caroline, "and yet she was different."

Caroline's heart rate picked up. Katherine. The conversation she'd had with Elijah at the falls when she'd revealed things about Katherine and Elijah. Yes, she definitely had been too specific, damn it!

Elijah continued, "She bewitched me and I fell under her spell. She made me question my loyalty to my brother and my heart." He frowned as he recalled Klaus's accusation after Katerina fled, "I loved her and would have saved her if she and Niklaus would have let me. I very nearly betrayed my own brother for her, Niklaus to this day believes that I was the reason she fled."

The name was on the tip of Caroline's tongue but she dare not say it for fear of what it would reveal.

"Her name was Katerina Petrova." Elijah felt triumphant as he caught the recognition in Caroline's eyes. She did know her and well before Elijah did. Only when he had been getting to know Katerina did he recall that conversation with Caroline centuries ago. It had plagued him how she could possible have given him advice related to five-hundred years in the future.

Caroline could only stare at Elijah with wide eyes. How could she answer him? She couldn't, not yet at least. She needed to speak with Klaus before saying anything to anyone else.

"I will wait for you to talk to me when you are ready, Caroline." Elijah would not push Caroline, he didn't need to as she had all but confirmed his suspicions by her reactions. He smiled at her before turning to go, at the doorway he looked over his shoulder and added, "Just know that I did as you said. I kept my heart open and hope that whom I love will one day return to me." He bid her goodnight and closed the door behind him.

Perhaps Elijah and Katherine will get their happy ending, Caroline thought with a smile. She got dressed for bed in a long flowing white nightie that wouldn't look out of place on her grandma and slipped beneath the covers. Feeling exhausted her eyes slipped closed and she fell into a deep sleep.

Klaus stood at the end of the bed and watched Caroline sleep. He was fascinated at the steady rise and fall of her chest, the sign that she was here and alive! Unable to stop himself he inched closer until he was at the side of her bed, the moonlight glowing off her perfect features. With a shaking hand he reached out and ran his knuckles down the side of her face. He clenched his eyes shut to prevent the tears but it was no use, the salty water made tracks down his cheeks despite his efforts. Caroline was truly alive! His only love was here in front of him and he had called her a whore. A sob escaped him as he recalled the devastation in her eyes, he didn't think he'd ever forget it.

Pulling up a chair Klaus sat beside Caroline, never removing his hand from her soft cheek, "I am so sorry, my love." He hung his head in shame, "I regretted the words the moment they left my lips. You are as beautiful and perfect as you were back then." He swallowed as he admitted, "I have lain with other women, I'm am sorry but I thought you were dead. I hope you can forgive me."

Klaus reached behind his neck and grasped the leather strap that held Caroline's wedding ring, he pulled it over his head and held it in his hand. He stroked his thumb over the lapis stone, as blue now as it was when he bought it. He reached for her right hand and intertwined their fingers, "I will give this back to you when you can find it in your heart to forgive me." He brushed a kiss across the back of her hand, "I am now and forever will be your husband." He placed the leather back around his neck and settled in the chair for a night of watching Caroline sleep, "I have never stopped loving you."

Klaus didn't leave until sunrise.

A week later

Caroline was sick and tired of Klaus's Houdini act for the last week. Whenever she entered a room he made a quick exit, avoiding her at all cost, occasionally spitting out a snide comment before bolting. She knew it was all an act, she knew he visited her room at night, it smelled like him in the morning and her cheek or hand, or both, would still tingle from his touch.

Caroline was done being ignored. She was going to find Klaus and force him to listen to her.

Klaus was in one of the drawing rooms, his fangs dug into some random blonde he needed to take his frustration out on. His fingers dug into her arms as he tore at her throat uncaring of the mess he was making as he killed her. One week! One week and Caroline didn't even bother to try and speak with him, granted he left the room whenever she entered but still, she could follow him! At least give him some indication that she still loved him. But no, she swanned around without a care in the world laughing and joking with Elijah and Rebekah while he wallowed in his own misery. Throwing the now dead blonde on the floor he growled in annoyance.

"Seriously?" Caroline looked at the dead girl in front of her with a heavy heart, "You're mad at me and you take it out on some innocent girl with the same colour hair?"

"What of it?" Klaus snarled, his heart jumping at Caroline's presence while also pissed that she passed judgement on him, "I am a vampire, sweetheart, I kill."

"You don't have to." Caroline pushed away from the wall and made her way toward Klaus, "We need blood to survive but we don't need to kill." She stared at Klaus with a sorrowful expression, "We don't have to be monsters!"

"But I am, aren't I?" Klaus hissed, speeding over to Caroline so that he stood before her, "I am a monster and am nothing like the pathetic human you married." He sneered at her, "You don't know me anymore, Caroline."

"That's where you're wrong, Klaus," Caroline replied, her eyes boring into Klaus's menacing gaze, "I know you better than you think I do." She placed her hand against his chest, "I know Niklaus and I know Klaus."

"You don't know anything." Klaus snarled, moving away from Caroline's touch, "I've had centuries without you as the man I am now." He stared off into the distance as he added, "I am incapable of love. It is nothing but a weakness and I am anything but weak."

"Bullshit." Caroline retorted.

"Excuse me?" Klaus glared at Caroline.

"You heard me." Caroline smirked at Klaus, "Bull. Shit. You are as capable of love as any other man."

"What makes you such an expert on my feelings?" Klaus retorted, feeling anger stir beneath him at Caroline's knowing look, "Do not base your response on that weak human whom hung off your every word."

"Alright I won't." Caroline agreed, "I will base it off the man stood before me today. The man whom loves his family so much that rather then allow them into the world where they could possibly get hurt despite them being Original's you cart them around in boxes so you can always keep an eye on them."

Klaus narrowed his eyes at Caroline, "How could you possibly know about that? Elijah or Rebekah would never discuss that with you. With anyone."

"Do you want to know how I know?" Caroline sat down on one of the other chairs, "Because I met the man who'd done that for centuries and was left with a family that loved him and despised him in equal measure. I met the man who hated that I wasn't afraid of him but still drew me a picture thanking me for my honesty after I threw the jewellery he gave me in his face."

"What!" Klaus looked confused, what was Caroline trying to say, "What do you mean? Have you found another?" He felt vengeful at the thought, he would tear any man whom touched her to shreds. She was his wife.

"No, I haven't found anyone else." Caroline rolled her eyes at Klaus's stupidity, "I am talking about you, you idiot!"

"Huh?" Now Klaus really was confused.

"I'm from the future, Klaus." Caroline held her breath and waited for Klaus's explosion.

There was a moment of incredulous silence before Klaus yelled, "You are from the future?"

Time for Caroline to face the music and tell Klaus what she should have told him back when he was human.

Ara stared at Nera with concern as she tried to locate Caroline within the alter of water. The moment she was ripped from time with Henrik they had lost her and had been unable to track her. The dark magic had managed to conceal her from them thus far but Nera would not stop trying. It was their idea to send Caroline to the past, they would not give up until they sent her back to the future.

Nera concentrated as hard as she could as images rapidly flew across her minds eye. Searching for Caroline within an infinite amount of time was not unlike looking for a needle in a haystack. She limited her search between where Caroline last was and the future. The darkness could have dropped her anywhere and Nera hoped this would help her to locate Caroline faster.

Ara worried for her sister, Nera had been at this for days with no luck. She knew that she needed a break. Ara placed her hand on Nera's shoulder and shook her to bring her out of her visions, "Take a break, Nera. You have been at this for days. We shall find her but not today."

Nera was about to argue with her sister when she finally began to feel tired, "I will rest, Ara." As she laid down on her bed she vowed to herself, "I will find Caroline and bring her home." She closed her eyes and fell asleep.

Tomorrow, the search for Caroline would continue.
