Fixing Mistakes

Chapter 14 - Healing Wounds

Caroline was drifting to awakening in a dreamy haze, she just felt so warm safe and loved with her head pillowed on a firm chest. A strong arm was wrapped around her waist holding her tight, the other was resting on her arm which she had laid over his chest, their legs were tangled together and a thin sheet covered them. Her head raised and fell with each of his breaths. She was content to lay in his arms forever, cocooned in his embrace.

Caroline tilted her head up to rest her chin on Klaus's chest. She couldn't help but grin as she caught sight of the adorable expression on his face. His head was tilted toward her, his brow devoid of creases a peaceful look on his face, his eyelashes brushed his cheek as his eyes moved beneath his closed lids, his deliciously full lips were formed into a pout. The sight made her want to surge up and bite them, claim him as hers once again.

Dropping her head back down to Klaus's chest Caroline huffed a laugh. If he didn't already know that he was hers and she was his after last night and early this morning she didn't know what else could. Her body was still aching in a good way after they both had their fun with each other, they were insatiable, no one kiss was enough, no touch long enough, nor did they ever get close enough, not even when they were clutching one another, their chests pressed together, her legs around him as she pulled him into her. She was pretty sure that every vampire occupant of the castle must have heard them, if the thumping of bookcases, beds and dressers against the walls hadn't alerted them then her cries surely would have. She was loud, louder than she ever had been with Klaus before, and that was saying something as they had done it in an actual forest with no one around for miles.

Blushing at her thoughts, Caroline happened to glance toward Klaus's throat and froze. She hadn't noticed it last night, her mind too full of him and his touch to notice his adornments. There shining bright as day was her ring. It was attached to a well worn leather strap. With trembling fingers she reached out, and as she touched the precious stone a sob escaped her. Klaus kept it, after centuries thinking her lost to him he still kept her wedding ring close to him.

A hand covered Caroline's, her teary eyes shot up and met Klaus's sleepy but still swimming with emotion eyes. Unable to speak for the lump in her throat, she swallowed and tugged on the necklace, a silent question that her eyes begged for him to answer.

Klaus stared into Caroline's eyes for a minute, just content to soak in her wonderful presence before shattering the peace. Sighing, he pulled the ring from between her fingers and held it in his palm. He took a moment to reign in his emotions before answering her unspoken question, "As I showed you yesterday, I found your ring on the ground covered in blood." He took a breath the memory still painful, "I was...distraught."

"Then what?" Caroline asked, her voice whisper quiet.

"I barely recall Elijah picking me up and taking me back to their home." Absentmindedly Klaus began stroking his fingers along Caroline's bare back, "I drifted in and out of consciousness for days, the only thing grounding me was your ring." He glanced down at her raptured face and quirked his lips into the smallest of smiles, "It brought me a certain comfort, knowing that it was proof that you were indeed real and the last few months of my human life had truly been the happiest."

"I'm sorry." Caroline whispered, kissing the spot where Klaus's heart resided.

Klaus squeezed Caroline's shoulder in response, unable to reply to her just yet, the wound still too raw. He wanted to share something with her, he knew she didn't want to SEE what the Five had done to him but he wanted to tell her something instead. He began running his fingers through her hair as he continued where he left off, "You saw the rest. Esther turned myself and my siblings into vampires, I killed Mikael unknowingly making him a vampire also, being my first kill it activated my werewolf gene and I transformed. I became a Hybrid." His eyes shot to hers to gauge her reaction. There was no repulsion only recognition. But how?

"From the future remember?" Caroline answered Klaus's unspoken question, "I knew what you were before we even met." She frowned, "Well, before you and I met, not before my Klaus and I met."

Klaus tensed. Jealousy sung in his veins at hearing Caroline refer to the future him as hers. Were they together? Was the only reason she fell for him because he was a version of someone she already loved? Was she the type of person to do that? He didn't think so. Needed to know about Caroline and future Klaus's relationship he asked, "Were you and him..." He hesitated, "...together?"

Caroline blew out a breath, "Short answer - no. Longer answer - it is a long and very complicated story."

Klaus narrowed his eyes at Caroline, "Did he love you?"

A beat, "Yes."

"Did you care for him?"

A longer pause, "Yes."

A pain stabbed his heart but Klaus continued, "Is the only reason you loved me because of your feelings for him."

"What? No!" Caroline sat up, horrified that Klaus could even think that, "Yes, I cared for Klaus and maybe I even loved him but," she took Klaus's hand in hers, "a lot of things happened between us. A lot of pain and hurt and anger. Then he left town," her eyes grew downcast, she had never told anyone but she had missed Klaus once he left, so much that it terrified her, "I didn't see him again for eight months when he came back for the impending death of Ka-" She stopped herself, he couldn't tell him whom he had really been there to see, "A mutual enemy."

"I feel like there is more to the story." Whether Klaus wanted to know just what that more was he didn't know, but he needed to know anyway.

Caroline chuckled, "You would be right." She tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear before continuing, "I was in the woods looking for Matt; a friend of ours well, a friend of mine, anyway, I was searching for him when you appeared before me," she didn't notice that she had now switched from saying him to you as she got lost in the memory, "and I was so happy to see you but also scared because my feelings for you were still there, buried inside under lock and key."

Klaus didn't comment on Caroline's word change. He listened closely to what she was saying. He found it strange that she had a whole history with another version of himself. A version he was becoming increasingly jealous of, she said she wasn't in love with him but just from her tone when she spoke of him he knew that wasn't true. She was in love with the future version of him.

"You told me that if I was honest with you that you would leave and never come back. So I was." Caroline hesitated a beat before revealing, "I told you that I was building a life for myself and that didn't include you. Then we kissed, well, I kissed you and it felt soo good and..."

Klaus's mouth dropped open, "You slept with him?!" His hands clenched with the desire to rip something apart, preferably this future Klaus, and wasn't that just the strangest thing he'd ever thought. He wanted to kill a future version of himself for sleeping with Caroline before she became his wife. Then a thought occurred to him, "Wait! You were a virgin when we consummated our marriage. How was that possible?"

"No idea." Caroline replied, "It shocked the hell out of me when you slid in and was met with a barrier." She shrugged, as puzzled as Klaus, "Apparently travelling through time makes you a virgin again."

That raised another question, "You were not a virgin last night. If you time travelled again shouldn't that have made you a virgin again?"

Caroline swallowed, "I was human when we married."

Klaus raised his eyebrow.

"I was a vampire last night." Caroline replied.

Klaus was confused, "If you jumped straight from our human days to now then how come you are a vampire?"

"Because I was originally a vampire that turned into a human when I travelled through time," Caroline gasped as she finally pieced together what happened, "to when there were no vampires. The blood!" Caroline grew excited as she finally understood one thing that happened to her, "Our shared bloodline! We were created with magic so when I arrived when you were human I turned human, I arrive when you're a vampire and I am a vampire again." She grinned brightly, "It all makes sense now."

"Bloodline?" Klaus asked, he had never heard the term before.

"All vampires originated from you and your siblings." Caroline explained the bloodline to Klaus, "You turn a vampire whom then turns someone else whom turns someone else and so on and so on. That's the bloodline. I originated from you."

Klaus smirked proudly, he was pleased that Caroline was a part of his bloodline.

"Or at least that's what you told us." Caroline continued, the words tumbling from her mouth before she could stop them, "We were trying to kill you at the time so it's not out of the imagination that you would lie. What with when an Original dies his whole line of vampires dies with him." Caroline covered her mouth as her eyes widened, she did not just say that to Klaus.

Klaus was trying to process several things that Caroline just said. One was that she had tried to kill him and how could she know that an entire line of vampires died when an Original died. He had to know how she knew that, "Just how exactly do you know that when an Original dies his whole line dies with them."

Caroline swallowed, she had just majorly put her foot in it. How could she explain anything without giving too much away? Then she furrowed her brow, did she really want to keep those events the same? Did she still want Kol and Finn to die when she now thought of them as family? No she didn't. But did she really want to change the future? She was torn, no real answer laid before her.

"How do you know that?" Klaus repeated, his voice turning cold.

Caroline looked down at her lap, her eyes stinging with tears as she whispered, "Because an Original died and I watched as an hour later two vampires from their line died."

Klaus grabbed onto Caroline's arms as he demanded, "Who? Which one of my siblings did you kill."

Caroline cried out at Klaus's punishing grip, "I can't tell you!"

Klaus growled and dug his fingers into Caroline's flesh, "You will tell me!"

"No!" Caroline whooshed out of Klaus's hold so that she was on the other end of the room, tears streaking down her cheeks, "I can't tell you! Not until I figure out a way to fix it."

Klaus glared, "You can fix it by telling me!"

"No I can't!" Caroline clutched the sheet tighter against her as fear washed over her, Klaus could just compel the truth out of her. She prayed that he didn't, "Do you have any idea how many future events could be altered by you knowing too much." She began to pace mumbling to herself, "I have to make sure that SHE survives so that Stefan is turned, then he can save Elena and then SHE can turn me and...and...argh! I don't know." She buried her hands in her hair as a the reality of time travel became apparent. How could she make sure that she changed the right things without irreparably damaging the future? She couldn't. She groaned into her hands, "Time travel sucks."

Klaus couldn't help it, he laughed, not just his usual chuckle but a full on from his belly laugh.

Caroline looked indignant, "You are laughing!" She crossed her arms over her chest and glared, the gesture losing its power as she pushed her breasts together making them stand out even more, "What the hell is so funny, Niklaus?"

Klaus shook his head, the smile still remaining on his lips, "We are having a fight about things that haven't even happened yet." He chuckled, "And I am jealous of my future self because you have a history with him that is unbelievable to me."

Caroline stared at Klaus incredulously, "You're jealous of yourself?"

Klaus grinned, "It would appear so."

Caroline dropped her head to her chest and snorted, "My life cannot get any weirder."

"Famous last words, darling." A new voice entered the room.

Caroline's head shot up, "Kol!" She screamed with joy and flashed towards him, wrapping her arms around him as she held him tight, "When did you get here?"

"Just arrived." Kol held Caroline tight against him as he relished feeling her in his arms, he had missed her so much, "Rebekah sent word of the miracle of you and my brother." He pulled back and grinned at her, "I came as soon as I could. I had to see for myself."

Caroline grinned, her eyes bright from happiness, "I missed you."

"I have missed you too." Kol shot a smirk at Klaus, "These lot know nothing of fun. But you and I," he held her hand up and spun Caroline around, "we know how to entertain ourselves." He raked his eyes over Caroline's naked but for a sheet form, "Though dressed as you are I am sure there are all types of fun we can indulge in. Preferably with both of our clothes off."

Caroline suddenly realised that she was only dressed with a sheet. Screaming she flashed over to the closet and hid behind the door, "Kol! Get out!"

Kol chuckled, "Don't be coy, love! I haven't seen you in near on six hundred years." Seeing the glower on Klaus's face he couldn't help but grin, "Let a man enjoy the sight of you in a sheet."

Klaus whooshed over to Kol and held him off the ground by his throat, "Look at her again and I'll rip out your eyes. Touch her bare skin again and you shall no longer have any arms to touch anyone with again."

Kol rolled his eyes, "Relax, Nik. She's not exactly your wife anymore, is she?" He smirked, "I don't see your ring on her finger anymore. She's fair game, brother."

Klaus growled before throwing Kol through the open door. He walked to stand over his prone form, "Just think about touching her and you'll see just how," he smirked, "fair I can be, brother."

Klaus slammed the door and marched his way back into the room. Seeing Caroline still hiding behind the closet door he growled, "You can come out now."

Caroline peeked out from behind the door and sighed as she saw only Klaus. She walked over to the bed and sat down, "You know that part I said about my life not getting any weirder?" She shook her head and chuckled, "Yeah, never going to happen. Like ever."

Klaus smiled.

"A smile!" Caroline gasped, a grin curving her lips, "Didn't think I was going get one of those for at least a few decades." She shot him a knowing look, "You do know how to hold a grudge, after all she did chase after K-" Caroline stopped herself by biting her lip. Glancing apologetically at Klaus she added, "Better not mention that."

Klaus let out a frustrated huff as he pushed himself away from the wall, "Do you have any idea how frustrating it is that you know what happens in my future?"

Caroline did feel for Klaus, she herself hated to not be in control just as he did so she could understand his ire, "I understand, I really do."

"How could you possibly understand how I feel?" Klaus glared at Caroline, "I am the only one in control of my future. I choose the path to follow to achieve what I desire."

"Yes you do! And in the process you grew and started on the path to become a better man." Caroline swallowed, tears in her eyes, "You became a man I could love and not just a psycho whom would kill anyone who'd get in the way of what you want."

"Sounds like you know that from experience." Klaus observed from Caroline's speech.

Caroline hesitated before revealing, "The first time we properly met you killed my boyfriend. Then he came back to life as a...vampire." She sighed before adding, "I was supposed to be the sacrifice in your ritual. Before a...friend," she winced at referring to Damon as her friend, "rescued me." She glanced at Klaus out of the corner of her eye, "So you can see why I thought you were a psycho when we first met."

"What is a boyfriend?" Klaus knew he should concentrate on everything else that Caroline said but he couldn't help but fixate on that particular word and what it implied

Caroline raised her eyebrows, "Seriously? That's what you say to me after everything I just said!" She shook her head and mumbled under her breath, "Unbelievable!" Staring at Klaus defiantly she answered, "Boyfriend means suitor, the man I was courting."

Klaus's hands balled into fists and his jaw clenched. Caroline had courted another man. He felt a sense of pride at hearing that he had been the one to kill his competition, he frowned, though if he made him a vampire that would have just made him an eternal rival for her affections which seemed rather idiotic to him, "Why would I turn him if he had you? That would have given him forever with you."

"The why is not important." Caroline would not tell Klaus why he turned Tyler, she did not want to reveal anything about making Hybrids after his curse was broken, "You didn't even know me when you killed him. That was the first time we had met face to face."

Klaus opened his mouth to reply.

Caroline cut Klaus off, "We seem to have gotten slightly off topic." She continued speaking before he could, "What I was trying to say was that I understand your frustration." She clenched her hands into fists, "I have been pulled away from my home not once but twice. I have no idea who sent me to the past and I have no clue if I'll be sent back to the future again." She ran her fingers through her hair as she growled, "I hate the uncertainty of not knowing."

Klaus took a moment to think about what Caroline said. She did not know whom sent her back or if indeed they would send her somewhere else again. Her time with him may not be permanent, not until their true path in the future. Did he want to spend what little time he had with her fighting? Resenting and holding a grudge for something that he was realising wasn't even Caroline's fault in the first place. He knew there was secrets she kept from him, things about his future she was afraid to reveal, but he could overlook that or at least wait until she told him. No matter how much he wanted to keep her with him he knew that their path lied five centuries in the future. He wouldn't waste that time by being angry with her. Not anymore at least, he had already wasted an entire week where they could have been together.

Caroline gasped as Klaus suddenly appeared in front of her, his hands coming up to cradle her face, "Klaus?"

Klaus took the time to take in Caroline's beauty. Her wide soulful eyes shone bright with a depth of love that took his breath away. Her mouth was tempting in its perfectness, full soft lips that were made just for him. Stroking his thumbs against her cheeks he whispered the words he should have spoke the moment he was reunited with her, "I love you, Caroline Mikaelson." He bent his head to rest against her forehead, "I always have," he tenderly brushed his nose against hers, "and I always will."

Tears spilled down Caroline's cheeks as she choked on a sob, "Klaus Mikaelson..." she raised her hands to cover Klaus's hands, "I love you too." She bit her lip as a grin exploded onto her face, relief overwhelming her as he spoke the words she had been dying to hear.

A beautiful smile took over Klaus's features, he had unknowingly been waiting for Caroline to reaffirm her love for him ever since she returned. A weight lifted off his chest, she had truly returned to him, the years of torment gone in an instant just because he knew she loved him still, "I believe I have something of yours."

Caroline looked at Klaus with curiosity, wondering what he had of hers.

Klaus reached his hands to his neck and grasped the leather pulling it over his head. He untied it and released a breath as Caroline's ring dropped into his palm. He felt strangely naked without it resting against his breastbone, it had hung there for so long that now it was gone it would take him some getting used to. He stroked his thumb along the ring before revealing, "Your ring didn't just ground me, it also brought me hope in my darkest days."

"How?" Caroline asked.

Klaus stared at the ring, brushing his thumb along the lapis as he replied, "You said you knew of the Five." Caroline nodded, "Everyday I was assaulted with visions of the people I killed, Finn and Kol wishing me dead, Elijah and Rebekah saying that they wished they could be rid of me once and for all, Esther and Mikael regretting the day I was born." He swallowed before revealing, his voice full of anguish, "The worst by far were of you and Henrik. The both of you reminded me of my failure to protect you both."

Caroline's eyes shown with sympathy, her heart breaking at what Klaus must have gone through. She could only imagine the terrible things she'd said.

Klaus slipped his fingers between Caroline's and held tight. He draw comfort from her hand in his as he continued, "It was your words that almost broke me, torturing my soul and driving me to the brink of insanity. You were so loving and gentle whenever you first appeared to me. You would hold me in your arms and tell me how much you loved me." He took a shuddering breath, "And I gloried in it. No matter what you said I looked forward to just seeing you and touching you. Just being near you again was a sweet torture all in itself. You were never mean with what you said, you would tell me that you needed me, that I belonged with you, that we would be reunited in death." He clenched his eyes shut as he remembered feeling wrecked, absolutely torn apart that he couldn't be with her, that he couldn't kill himself because he could not die, "But no matter the promise your voice held, of a forever spent in your arms, as I clutched your ring it grounded me in reality. You were dead and would never say such things to me or anyone. You are so full of life that you would never try and get someone to die." He smiled at Caroline, "Your wedding ring gave me hope, hope that I would survive and hope that one day I would see you again." He brought his other hand to her cheek and stroked it, "Which I have."

"I am so sorry for what you went through." Caroline held Klaus's gaze in hers, her arm going around his waist to hold him, "I never wanted to leave you. Even though my life was in the future I wanted to stay with you and live out our human days together." She dropped her head to his shoulder and nuzzled into his neck, "I love you so much and however much I wish I could promise you my eternity but the truth is that I can't. I can't guarantee that I won't be thrust through time again. And that kills me because I," a tear slipped down her cheek as her voice shook, "I just want to be with you."

Klaus crushed Caroline against him and buried his face in her hair, "You know all I've ever wanted was to be with you." He ran his hands along her back as he vowed, "I can promise you that no matter how long it takes, I will find you and I will never let you go again."

Caroline pulled back, her heart in her eyes as she whispered, "Really?"

"Yes." Klaus replied, honesty shining in his eyes, "I will wait a lifetime for you, my Caroline."

"Mystic Falls." Caroline smiled.

"What?" Klaus asked confused.

"2014. Mystic Falls. Meet me there." Caroline's eyes shined bright with renewed hope for their future.

Klaus returned Caroline's smile, his head resting against hers as he vowed, "I'll be there."

Caroline tilted her head up and captured Klaus's lips with hers. She sucked gently on his bottom lip as she indulged herself in him, drowning her senses in him, his taste his smell just him.

Klaus sighed with pleasure as he buried his hand in Caroline's hair. He massaged her scalp as his tongue tangled with hers and he tasted her, moaning at the feel of her against him, her lithe body fitting against his perfectly.

Caroline tilted her head to give Klaus better access. Loosening her arms she allowed the sheet to fall from her body, her naked body against Klaus's, the heat coiling in her belly as her need for him increased.

Klaus broke the kiss with a groan as he felt Caroline's naked body beneath his hands. Looking down his eyes sparked with lust as he eyed her full breasts, his hands coming up of their own accord to palm them, his thumbs brushing against her nipples, his cock hardening as they pebbled in response to his touch, "You're going to be the death of me, Caroline."

Caroline couldn't help but giggle in response, which then turned into a lusty moan as Klaus laid her down on the bed and roamed her body with his hands, the touch sending her nerve endings crazy and turning the heat in her core into a raging inferno. She wanted to be joined with him, wanted to feel his body pressing into hers and the smooth glide of his dick in her pussy. She just wanted him, always. Unable to express her desire she dug her nails in his back and growled, "Klaus..."

Klaus smirked, knowing instantly what Caroline desired, not wanting to give into her just yet but still wanting to keep the flame alive he cupped her pussy with his hand and massaged his palm against her clit, "What do you want, sweetheart?" He nibbled her ear as his voice turned sinful, "Tell me and it's yours."

God, Klaus's husky whisper shot straight to Caroline's core, the muscles clenching with need for him. Tightening her thighs together she rubbed herself against his palm, "You." Her breathing quickened in anticipation of his touch, "I want you inside of me."

Klaus smirked, "As you wish, love." He ran his finger over the lips of Caroline's pussy, teasing them open before slipping a finger inside. He groaned against her ear as he felt the slickness surrounding him, his cock twitched at how wet she was. Dragging his lips from her ear to her pulse point he sucked on the skin as he slipped a second finger inside her.

Caroline gasped, her muscles contracting around Klaus's fingers, her clit throbbing with desire, a moan escaping her. Her hips moved with the rhythm of his fingers, groaning as he teased the bundle of nerves inside of her, her channel growing slicker as he brought her ever closer to orgasm.

Klaus adored the sounds Caroline was making as he fucked her with his fingers, his cock was almost painfully hard, wanting to be buried in that tight heat and feel her come undone around him, but he wanted something else first. Kissing and licking his way down her chest he removed his fingers from her pussy, smirking as she whimpered in protest. Kneeling between her thighs he took hold of her legs and pushed them toward her chest, her lower body almost completely off the bed, her pussy angled perfectly for him. Smirking at Caroline he lowered his head and licked a path from her centre to her clit which he sucked into his mouth.

Caroline threw her back and groaned as Klaus sucked on her clit. Her hands flew out and grabbed onto the sheet as he nibbled, licked and sucked her tender flesh. Her pleasure building low in her belly at his relentless mouth, the way he held her legs prevented her from thrusting against his lips, helpless under his talented mouth. Cries escaped her as her eyes fluttered closed.

Klaus moaned against Caroline as he feasted on her, his tongue circling her clit before sucking on the nub, loving the way she was reduced to cries and moans. Not wanting her to come just yet he left her clit and slid his tongue along her folds until he reached her entrance. He pushed his tongue inside her as he kissed her in the most intimate way, his jaw working frantically as he ate her, moaning at the taste of her. Pushing her thighs further apart his mouth moved over her flesh, his nose brushing over her clit as he brought her closer to orgasm.

"Oh fuck!" Caroline whimpered, her body twitching frantically and a constantly litany of moans falling from her lips, "Oh God!" Her pussy was on fire, throbbing constantly as her orgasm rose from her toes to her belly to her pussy. Arching her back off the bed the heat exploded as she finally came, her walls flooding with her juices as she screamed, "KLAUS!"

Klaus groaned against Caroline as he feasted on the evidence of her orgasm, never letting up the movement of his mouth he lapped up every drop until she was a twitching mess underneath him. Not giving her time to recover he stood up and slammed his cock into her still fluttering pussy. Groaning at the way her inner muscles gripped him, he pulled back out and thrust forward, setting a punishing pace as he pounded her pussy.

Caroline could only clutch the sheet as Klaus rode her pussy, his balls slapping against her ass as he fucked her roughly, pushing against her legs until her feet were almost beside her head. Suddenly she was pulled up, her arms automatically going around his neck as her legs wrapped around his waist. Unable to resist any longer she captured Klaus's lips with hers, groaning as she tasted his essence on his tongue, her hips bucking wildly against his as she felt another orgasm building.

Klaus swallowed Caroline's cries, his hands on her ass pulling her onto his dick, her tightening walls drawing him to orgasm. Wanting her to fall over the edge with him he abruptly ended their kiss and sunk his teeth into her neck, his hips pumping frantically as her sweet blood coated his tongue.

Caroline screamed as her whole body shook, her walls clenching around Klaus's cock as she came. Sinking her fangs into his shoulder she groaned as she tasted his rich blood. Her womb flooded with warm as Klaus came within her, coating her in his essence, his fingers digging into her ass, her own clinging onto his shoulder as the pleasure threatened to overwhelm her.

Klaus panted into Caroline's neck as he attempted to come down from his high, the pleasure her body brought him was indescribable, they fit together like two puzzle pieces. Now that they were vampires it felt even more right than it had when they were human. Taking her blood had been euphoric, better than the first drop of blood to touch his lips, his whole body was humming with her, her whole being now sung within his veins. She was part of him.

Caroline hugged Klaus to her as she recovered from her multiple orgasms. She wished she could stay forever like this, wrapped around him and connected to him. She brushed a kiss against his neck, a smile in her voice as she murmured, "I love you."

Klaus smiled, his hand coming up to bury itself in Caroline's sex mussed hair, "And I love you." Nuzzling his nose against her ear he reminded, "I still need to give you something." Still holding Caroline he reached across the bed where the ring lay discarded, bringing it to where she could see it his heart jumped at the light in her eyes.

Caroline's heart thumped wildly in her chest as she placed her left hand between them and watched as Klaus slid the ring back onto her finger. She felt like she'd come home, finally compete as her ring sat proudly on her finger.

Klaus released a breath as he slid the ring all the way onto Caroline's finger. She was his wife again, no thought had ever made him happier. Bringing her hand to his lips he brushed a kiss across the ring, "Perfect." He tangled his fingers with hers and gazed into her eyes as he repeated, "Absolutely perfect."
