Fixing Mistakes

Chapter 19 - Ripped Apart

2014

Katherine shut the door behind her. Her heart ached at the clear devastation on Elijah's face, his grief was plain for all to see. She didn't know what to say to make him feel better.

Elijah dipped his head down and subtly wiped the tears from his eyes. He faced Elena, affecting his usual calm and collected exterior, his eyes however reflected the pain in his soul, "What can I do for you, Elena?" He tried to push away his grief for the moment, to shut away his pain until he was ready to deal with the loss of Katherine, "Your friend and Niklaus's crush is missing. Caroline Forbes, is it?"

"That's not important right now." Katherine moved to sit beside Elijah, "I am sorry that Stefan broke the news to you that way. We thought you knew." She gave him a questioning glance.

"I did not." Elijah straightened his suit sleeves as he felt the anger at his siblings boil under his skin, "They told me they had unfinished business in Mystic Falls. As they had spent the most time there I did not question them." He shook his head at his stupidity, "I should have." His gaze moved off to the side, in the direction of where he'd left Hayley, "I suppose I was needed to protect Hayley and the child."

"Stop justifying their actions!" Katherine burst out, unable to hold back her annoyance as Elijah once again tried to excuse the deeds of his siblings, "They lied to you, Elijah! Just to keep you where they wanted you." She pushed off her chair and paced the room mumbling to herself, "Like always."

Elijah eyed Elena intently, her behaviour was not what he expected from her, she could not stand Katherine and he knew that their was no love lost between them, "I know that you would not have shed any tears for Katerina, she did kill your brother after all."

"And we killed your brothers." Katherine shot back, "Should you not wish us all dead?"

Elijah creased his brow in confusion, that was very much unlike Elena to say that, "A subject which you have never once touched upon before." He glared at her in anger, "Do you wish to wound me deeply by cavalierly mentioning my fallen brothers and dead girlfriend?"

"Ex, Elijah." Katherine replied throatily, unable to keep her emotions in check and reminded Elijah of their former lover status, "Katherine was your ex-girlfriend."

Elijah swallowed back his pain, "The reminder was unnecessary. I am well aware of Katerina and I's status as former lovers."

"You did abandon her in Mystic Falls to run off and play happy family with your siblings." The distaste was prominent on Katherine's face, "And from what I just saw, you've taken to sampling from the same cup as Klaus as well." She wrinkled her nose at Elijah, "Again. Was Tatia and Katherine not enough? Must you repeat this destructive cycle with Klaus and share women yet again. You are lusting after Hayley, whom is pregnant with his child for god's sake!"

Katerina... Elijah thought with shock and hidden hope, those are Katerina's words. He examined Elena from head to toe. Her hair was stylishly messy, a streak of red running through it just as when he saw her last, his breath caught, when Elena was pretending to be Katherine. Her clothes were Elena's but her posture screamed Katherine, her hands on her hips, her head cocked to the side as she looked at him from under her lashes. It can't be...

Katherine carried on, unaware of the turn Elijah's thoughts had taken him and of how close he was to figuring out the truth, "You need to start living for yourself, Elijah, or you will be cleaning up Klaus's messes for the rest of your eternity." She pierced him with a glare, "Is not a thousand years enough? Leave him to his own devices, I'm sure he will survive, he is similar to Katherine after all." She swallowed hard and dropped her gaze to the floor, "Live your own life, Elijah."

Elijah stood in front of Elena, he placed his hand under her chin and raised her face up to meet his. He looked into her eyes for a moment, wanting to deny but unable to at what he saw reflected back at him, Katerina.

Katherine gazed back at Elijah, looking straight into his eyes made her heart ache in remembrance of their love. His thumb brushed against her cheek and her eyes closed of their own volition, his touch setting her soul on fire as it always had. Why was he touching Elena in this way?

Elijah lowered his lips to cover Elena's, just a simple melding of their lips together as he tasted her. Her body went rigid as stone, he began to pull back as he started to doubt his own reasoning. Perhaps the lure of hope, however sweet, was just to avoid the sorrow in his heart. The pain returned to his eyes.

As Katherine felt Elijah pull away from her she debated with herself, do I keep playing Elena? Or do I share a kiss with the man I loved? Her heart raced with anxiety, if she allowed him to leave her now she knew her secret would be safe but she would still be heartbroken at losing him yet again, even more than when she had to leave Stefan in 1864. Her eyes widened as a realization hit her, I loved Elijah more than I ever loved Stefan.

Elijah closed his eyes as the pain of Katherine's death hit him yet again. His pathetic hope had him latching onto Elena's words and seeing Katherine. He was over a thousand years old, surely he must be past such emotional illusions. He was about to apologize to Elena for his kiss when he heard her whisper, "Screw it!"

Katherine cupped Elijah's cheeks and pulled him down to meet her lips. She sighed with the pleasure of kissing him again after almost a year without him. She slipped her tongue in his mouth and groaned, her hands sliding into his hair as she held him against her.

The passion that coursed through Elijah's veins as her tongue danced with his left him in no doubt, KATHERINE was the one kissing him and not Elena. Somehow she was still alive and posing as Elena. That was his last conscious thought before his desire for Katherine took hold of his body. His arm curled around her lower back as his other hand dived into her silky locks, I miss my Katerina's curls.

Katherine growled and bit Elijah's lip drawing blood, sucking on the cut she moaned as his rich blood ran down her throat. She jumped on him, wrapping her long legs around his waist. She continued to kiss him, their tongues tangled in a duel of equal passion. She ran her nails down his scalp, across his neck before coming to take hold of his shirt in each hand. She smirked into his mouth just before a tearing sound was heard. In one swift movement she had ripped his shirt in two.

With the hand he had in Katherine's hair Elijah yanked her head to the side, causing her to gasp, her eyes dark with lust. Elijah ran his nose along the exposed skin of her neck until he reached her ear, he nibbled on it before whispering huskily, "Do you wish me naked?"

Katherine gasped, a shudder running through her body, Elijah's sexy timber causing her womb to clench in need. Before she went any further she had to be sure that he knew just whom he was seducing, she wouldn't, no she COULDN'T, go any further until she was sure he knew that she was Katherine and not Elena. Flicking her eyes to the side she allowed her gaze to become serious despite the desire in them, "Elijah, I'm..."

"Katerina, I know." Elijah finished Katherine's sentence for her. He let go of her hair and moved his hand to tenderly cup her cheek, "I would know your kiss anywhere, my dark temptress."

Katherine clenched her eyes shut, emotions overwhelming her as she leant into Elijah's touch. As she ran her hands along his bare chest her breath became ragged, she needed to feel him, to fall into his embrace as she so often had in the past. She could deny it no longer, she still and probably always would love him.

Elijah smiled softly at Katherine's reaction to his knowledge of her secret. He spread kisses across her neck, down her collarbone and across her shoulders until his mouth brushed the strap of her top. A smirk crossed his lips before he took the strap in his mouth, hooked his fang in the material and jerked his head back.

Katherine giggled at Elijah's bold move, "You broke my top." She looked down at the remains of her top, her left strap was in two and had pulled the front of her top down to expose the top of her breast and her erect nipple. She looked at him from under her lashes and grinned, "If you rip anything else I won't have anything to wear."

Elijah grinned, "Good." He placed Katherine on top of the desk, he took hold of her top and ripped off the remains. He took a moment to gaze at her luscious breasts, his hands twitched at the need to palm them but he had one more thing to do. He danced his fingers across the side of her breasts, over her stomach to hook his fingers in her jeans, one flick of his wrists and the denim was flying across the room to land on the couch. In the next second he was also naked and finally palmed her breasts in his hands, "Now you can't leave." Me, was left unsaid.

Katherine placed her hands behind her on the desk and leant back, "I wasn't planning on it." She ran her foot up Elijah's thigh to tease his rapidly hardening erection. She licked her lips at the sight of his long length. She moved her legs over his hips to wrap around his waist and pulled him to her.

Elijah's mouth descended to cover Katherine's pouty lips with his, moaning as her tongue played with his. He circled her nipples with his thumbs as he devoured her mouth, his hardness nudging against Katherine's pussy lips.

"Elijah..." Katherine gasped breathlessly.

"Katerina..." Elijah huskily whispered back.

Klaus was in his study, a glass of bourbon in his hand; one of several he had consumed, as he stared at the painting of Henrik and Caroline that he had finished barely a few hours ago. He looked the canvas over with a critical eye. Every part of this scene was crystal clear in his mind; the sweet smell from the apple orchard, Caroline and Henrik's laughter joining together as one, plus the echoing sound of his brother singing the lullaby that Rebekah had taught him.

It had been a dream, hadn't it?

Klaus swallowed back the amber liquid in one. He looked at the image one more time before roaring with rage and throwing his glass at the painting. The bourbon left in the glass mixed with the not yet dried paint making it run, the shards of glass left holes and scratches. The once perfect painting of his brother and Caroline was ruined.

Klaus raged in his studio once more. He tore other paintings of his in two, also breaking the frames which held the torn scraps of fabric. He picked up his chair throwing it at the wall and smashing it to pieces. He upturned his solid oak desk and kicked it sending two pieces in opposite directions until it smashed into the wall. After he was done he fell to his knees in the middle of the destruction he had caused.

"You're there, aren't you?" Klaus asked the ruined image of Caroline, "It was not a dream but a memory." His chin fell to his chest and he choked out on a sob, "You met Henrik." He blinked rapidly as hazy images of Caroline went through his mind, fragmented and distorted, hard to make out but he knew. They were memories of Caroline from his human past, "You met us all."

Klaus fell forward on to his hands, shards of glass pierced his skin which he did not even feel. A hug from Caroline, her beautiful smile, her sweet voice as she sang, werewolves, blood, Mikael hitting her, his lips caressing hers, a ring, a ceremony, making love, fear and death.

"No, no, no, no, no." Klaus chanted brokenly as he was assaulted with broken memories of a new past. Tears streamed unchecked down his face as his heart ripped apart in his chest. Caroline was gone, she had died the night Henrik perished, werewolves taking them both from him. He had loved her, he had MARRIED her, he was happy and now he was dead inside.

Veins rippled beneath his eyes, his fangs lengthened and his fingernails grew into claws. He was blinded by a white hot rage. Werewolves had taken his love from him, he had but a taste of her before her light was snuffed out forever. His lips pulled back in a snarl, his fangs glistening in his mouth, "I will avenge you, Caroline." He stood on trembling legs and almost fell into the ruined painting. He placed his hand on Caroline's paint smeared face, stroking his fingers across the image, smearing the paint even more, "I swear this to you. The wolves will pay."

Klaus strode across the room and threw open the door. He stalked through the compound, growling at any vampire that attempted to get in his way, until he came once again to Davina's room. He didn't bother knocking he just barged inside and demanded, "Find the witch whom cast the spell."

Davina was still groggy after coming around from the locater spell, her mind hadn't quite reached equilibrium just yet, "What witch?"

Klaus growled, "Do not try my patience. I could quite literally crush your skull in my hand and I would relish the feel of your blood and matter dripping from my fingers." He flashed to the bed, his golden eyes full of hate as he glared at Davina, "Do you wish to find out?"

Davina swallowed. Klaus's stare was inhuman, intense with anger and as evil as she had ever seen him. She knew that this time his threat was not idle, he would kill her without a second thought. Her heart raced as she truly felt fear in Klaus's presence. As her hands began to tremble she tucked them around her waist to appear brave, his sneer proved that it was useless, he could smell her fear.

Klaus smirked, "Thought not." He smoothly got up from Davina's bed and walked to the open door. He turned his head to look at her and repeated, "Find the witch that sent her to the past. Call me when you know." He turned to leave when her shaky voice halted him.

"Where are you going?" Davina pursed her lips until they were white after asking that, great work, stupid! He was LEAVING before your mouth called him back.

Klaus tilted his head to the side, a slow smirk curled his lips, revealing his razor sharp fangs, "I'm going to kill every werewolf I can get my hands on."

"Wait." Davina blinked, her brow creasing in confusion, "What?"

Klaus was already gone.

"Ohh!" Katherine moaned, throwing her head back as she rode Elijah on his desk. He was perched on the end of the desk, one hand cupping the cheek of her ass, the other palming her breast as his mouth sucked on her nipple. She had her hands on his shoulders, her feet flat on the wood behind her, moans falling from her mouth as she rocked wildly on his cock.

Elijah was lost in sensations. Katherine's taste saturated his mouth, his hands were full of her soft flesh, his nose was filled were her sweet and spicy natural scent, her pussy gripping his dick tightly as she took him deep. He groaned as he bucked up inside her, going even deeper as she surrounded him.

Hayley leaned back against the wall, her hands cradling her bump. She pursed her lips as she watched Stefan sit anxiously across the room, "Looks like another friend has abandoned you."

Stefan glared at Hayley, "Like you know anything about friendship. You led twelve of your supposed," he used air quotes, "'friends' to their deaths. What do you even know?"

"Great." Hayley rolled her eyes, "Yet another disciple of Caroline's. Do you sit at her feet and worship her too?" She cocked her head to the side as she smirked at Stefan, "Just what do you think Ty and I were doing in the mountains all those months, just helping him to break the sire bond?" She chuckled, "All work and no play make Tyler a very frustrated boy."

Slap!

Stefan gritted his teeth and glared hatefully at Hayley, "You're lucky your pregnant otherwise that would have been a snapped neck."

Hayley cradled her stinging cheek, "I'm still a werewolf, jackass, I could kill you with one bite."

"You could." Stefan smirked darkly, "However I am Caroline's best friend. Do you think that Klaus would have any problem giving me his blood? Especially if it would hurt Caroline to lose me?"

"Not if I told him you attacked me!" Hayley yelled, the urge to hurt Stefan flowing through her veins. Living with Elijah, Rebekah and occasionally Klaus's protection had elevated her sense of importance. The Original's wouldn't let anything happen to her.

Stefan leant forward until his face was inches away from Hayley's, "Try it. Make Klaus choose between the girl whom opened her legs for him and just happened to get pregnant, or the girl he still loves and has chased after ever since he met her." He pulled back and smirked, "See who he chooses."

Hayley growled in anger, "I'm getting Elijah." She threw open the door, "He will definitely rip your heart out for me." She stalked off to Elijah's study.

Stefan followed behind Hayley. He didn't regret a thing he'd said and definitely not the slap. She has done nothing but hurt Caroline since she arrived in Mystic Falls, he had unfortunately been too preoccupied by Elena and Damon's betrayal to kick Hayley's ass last year, now he was more than willing to torture Hayley and tear her down if she so much as bad mouthed Caroline. Best friends stick up for one another.

Hayley opened the door to Elijah's study without looking. She opened her mouth to speak but it hung slack as her eyes grew wide at the scene before her.

Elijah sat on his desk with Elena in his lap, their arms wrapped around each other, their mouths fused together in a passionate kiss. Both of them were naked, they were moving against each other with fluidity, fucking without a care in the world.

Stefan almost bumped into Hayley as she stopped frozen in the doorway. He was about to ask her why when he happened to peer over her shoulder and choked. Elijah and Elena were having sex. He reached over to his arm and pinched himself, it hurt, so he was in fact awake and Elijah was in fact boning Elena.

Hayley felt tears prick her eyes threatening to fall, she covered her mouth with her hands to prevent the sobs from escaping. Elijah had been falling for her as she had fallen for him, she was sure of it. He protected her, he had killed for her, he had looked at her with lust more than once. She loved him and though it was unspoken she knew he loved her too. Didn't he?

Katherine ripped her mouth away from Elijah to cry out. Her fingers dug deep into his shoulder muscles as she undulated her hips faster, moans fell constantly from her lips as groans escaped his throat regularly.

Hayley couldn't watch the man she loved fuck another girl any longer. She spun around pushed Stefan out of the way and ran. She went past her room, past the Original's rooms, down the stairs and straight out of the compound. She needed to be away from that toxic environment. She needed to cry, scream and nurse her broken heart. She needed her people, her newfound family, and she needed them now. She went to the bayou.

Stefan wanted to confront Elena, with every inch of his being he wanted to, but instead he chose to take hold of the door and closed it quietly. He made his way back to the study, quickly found some bourbon, unscrewed the lid and swallowed the liquid straight from the bottle. He wiped his mouth and tried to wrap his head around what he just witnessed with his own eyes.

Elena and Elijah having sex.

Elijah having sex with Elena.

Elena and Elijah.

Elijah and ELENA!

No matter how Stefan worded it in his head it just didn't make sense. Elena may be going through a rough patch with Damon but she would never cheat on him. Didn't she do the same thing with you? His brain supplied unhelpfully, no! She never slept with Damon when we were together, he winced as he remembered the sting of that old betrayal, just barely a day or two after we broke up.

Stefan shook off the old memories and the pain associated with them, and started to think logically. Elena had been acting weird for days. She suddenly didn't want anything to do with Damon, she didn't seem to care enough about Caroline's disappearance, she had attached herself to him and flirted with him on and off, occasionally she moved differently and talked differently, her exchange with Hayley was uncharacteristic. Ever since Katherine died she had been acting so differently.

Stefan's eyes widened.

Katherine!

Elena was acting like Katherine. Elena was the last person to see Katherine before she died. Bonnie; as the anchor to the Other Side, only saw Katherine once before she died but not afterwards. Katherine was descended from traveller's, whom could possess other people, her own daughter had been in love with one of them. Nadia knew how to call Gregor out back when he was possessing Matt before Katherine killed him. Nadia had to know the passenger spell.

Katherine was a passenger inside of Elena. It all made sense now. There is no way that Elena would sleep with Elijah, Katherine however would most certainly sleep with Elijah.

Now, how to deal with the problem on top of the Caroline situation. Stefan knew that Klaus would not allow himself or Katherine to leave the compound for anything other than a way to find Caroline. He needed the knife they used to remove Gregor from Matt. Should he risk asking Damon and Bonnie to bring the knife to New Orleans to use on Katherine, Klaus wouldn't care but Elijah will pose a problem. They would need to get him away from her.

Stefan made a decision. He took his cell phone out of his pocket, unlocked it, scrolled through his contacts and swiped 'Damon'. He held his cell to his ear and waited for his brother to answer.

Damon picked up, "Damon Salvatore speaking, the hotter older brother."

Stefan couldn't even find it in him to roll his eyes at Damon's typical greeting, "Brother, we have a problem."

Damon grew serious, "What is it?"

Stefan told Damon everything that happened; leaving out Katherine and Elijah's sexcapades, he explained the changes he'd noticed in 'Elena' on the drive to New Orleans and since they'd arrived. He told Damon how he came to the conclusion.

Damon was silent for what Stefan felt was an age. Finally his voice was gruff as he asked, "You are sure?"

"I am." Stefan replied, his voice as serious as it had ever been.

"I will find that knife," Damon vowed, already making plans in his head, "Then Bonnie and I will make our way to New Orleans."

"See you soon, brother." Stefan said before Damon hung up.

Stefan sighed, now he only had to pretend that Katherine was still Elena without alerting her to his suspicions until Damon and Bonnie arrived. He snorted, that was easier said than done when dealing with the extremely paranoid Katherine Pierce.

Should be an interesting few days at Chateau Original's.

"Grrr!" Klaus growled as he ripped the throat out of one of the Crescent Moon wolves. His threw the body of the male to the ground and already had his hand in the stomach of the next werewolf that attacked him, with one tug he pulled out his intestines before stomping on his leg breaking it.

Klaus was surrounded by the bodies of the werewolves he had slaughtered. He was covered from head to toe in the blood of his victims. He cut a path through the bayou at inhuman speed, first dead was Eve; her head ripped clean from her shoulders, then Jackson; his arms ripped out of his sockets and his eyes crushed in their sockets. After them it was kill after kill after kill, he wouldn't be satisfied until every werewolf in New Orleans laid ripped to shreds at his feet.

A horrified scream was heard, "Klaus..." Hayley's voice was tight from holding back her screams, "What have you done?"

Klaus whirled around, his hand immediately wrapping around Hayley's throat lifting her off the ground, "Avenging my love, little wolf." He surveyed his handiwork with a feral grin, "Do you not like what I've done to your family? I think it is some of my best work."

Hayley clawed at Klaus's hand around her neck, trying desperately to gasp for air, terrified at what Klaus would do to her and her baby, "You're a monster."

Klaus smirked as he leant forward menacingly, "You didn't complain when you were writhing beneath me, you little whore." He licked the blood off his lips, "In fact you screamed for my monster to fuck you harder."

Hayley sobbed in terror, finally realizing that Klaus was going to kill her, "I'm carrying your child, you bastard."

"A child I never wanted, nor even wanted to acknowledge." Klaus tilted his head, a sneer on his lips, "A child you would happily allow Elijah to become the father of." He moved closer and brushed his lips against Hayley's ear, "Though I must warn you that my dear older brother has the tendency to leave his women once they no longer need his protection." He shrugged his shoulders, "He is a fixer, after all. Why else would he still be after my redemption after all these years."

"Because he loves you." Hayley spat out, "Though for the life of me I cannot figure out why." She glared at Klaus with every ounce of disgust she possessed, "You are death, Klaus."

"What an excellent idea." Klaus roughly pulled Hayley to him and kissed her forehead, "Goodbye, Hayley." He twisted his hand.

CRACK!

Hayley fell limply to the ground, her head angled at an unnatural angle, her neck bulged from where Klaus broke it. She was dead.

Klaus looked at Hayley's corpse with contempt. He could not understand what possessed him to fuck her in the first place, his original intention when he brought her to his mansion was to get all the information he could from her before killing her, not to shag her and let her go. Oh well, he had rectified that mistake now.

RING!

Klaus pulled his cell out of his pocket and answered, "Yes?"

"I know who cast the spell." Davina replied.

Klaus waited a beat before growing inpatient, "Well? Don't keep me in suspense, witch. Out with it."

"It was Sophie." Davina revealed, the slightest of hesitations in her voice.

A slow grin curled Klaus's lips, "How...fortuitous." He stepped over the limbs and bodies of the fallen werewolves as he left the massacre behind him, "I may just have use for you yet, harvest girl." He hung up and returned his cell to his pocket. He was still grinning as he headed towards Sophie's. It was about time he taught the little bitch about what happened when you tried to control an Original, especially Klaus, the Original Hybrid.

Sophie was absolutely terrified. The spell she performed with the darkness had not gone as planned, she had felt something else as the magic flowed through her, another person's magic she thinks though she was not completely sure. As happened before the darkness disappeared as the spell was complete, she did not expect to hear from them for another day at least. She had no idea if it worked or not or if the other magic she sensed had changed the spell or not. She would have to wait until the darkness reappeared, if it didn't work then she was sure she was dead. The man had said that there would be no third chance, she knew the risk but, what would happen to Jane-Anne and Monique? Would they take their anger out on her alone or would they punish her family. She didn't know and it petrified her.

Knock.

Sophie went to the door and opened it. There was nobody there. She stepped outside, "Hel-"

Klaus had his hand around Sophie's throat and held her roughly against the wall, "I have been waiting for this moment for a long time."

"Klaus," Sophie choked out, her eyes wide in shock, "why are you doing this?"

Klaus slammed Sophie against the wall and hissed, "You know why."

It took Sophie a minute to catch on. Her eyes filled with dread. Whatever the darkness had made her do to this Caroline Forbes had finally reached Klaus.

Klaus wrapped his arms around Sophie and whooshed off. He returned to the bayou and threw Sophie onto the bodies of the wolves he massacred.

Sophie felt herself thrown onto something hard squishy and wet. She opened her eyes and screamed. Hayley's dead eyes stared back at her. She crawled backward only to find her hands touching ripped limbs, blood and she didn't want to know what else. Tears streamed down her face at the horror in front of her, she looked up at Klaus; he was drenched in blood and gore, and he was SMILING, "You are a monster!" Her eyes fell to Hayley's bump, the foetus would be long dead now, starved of oxygen once she died, only struggling for mere minutes before dying itself. There were no words for the revulsion she felt. As she felt the bile rush up her throat she scurried as far from the mass of bodies as she could and emptied the contents of her stomach. Wiping her mouth she turned her head to look at Klaus and screamed, "That was your child! You KILLED your own child! There is nothing human in you, abomination!"

Klaus continued to smile, "Did you not once threaten to do the same thing?" He gestured to Hayley, "You said you would kill Hayley and the child if I did not do what you asked. Personally I couldn't care less if you did or not. If Elijah had not badgered me constantly I would have snapped your neck myself thus taking care of Hayley."

"You protected Hayley! You wanted to kill Agnes for placing the curse that would have killed your baby." Sophie couldn't understand how Klaus could protect Hayley and his child one moment and then brutally kill them the next, "Was that a lie?"

"An act." Klaus dismissed his previous actions toward protecting Hayley, "To keep Elijah and Rebekah on my side while trying to find a way out."

"So is this is it?" Sophie sobbed, waving her hand at the bodies that littered the ground, "Your big get out plan. You murder Hayley and her entire pack."

"No. This was revenge." Klaus finally lost the smile and menacingly stalked toward Sophie, "A thousand years ago werewolves killed my youngest brother and as I today discovered." He grabbed her ankle, "My wife." He twisted the ankle in his hand, not satisfied when he heard the snap so he continued twisting until the bones were nothing but dust and the skin was wrinkled, her ankle barely still attached.

Sophie screamed, high and loud and full of unimaginable agony. The pain from her ankle was pure gut wrenching agony, the slightest movement of her leg caused her eyes to roll back in her head and screams to begin again. Klaus wasn't just going to kill her, he was going to torture her to death.

Klaus watched Sophie writhe with agony with satisfaction, "A little witch told me that you were the one whom sent Caroline to my human past."

It wasn't a question but Sophie answered it anyway, there was no point in denying it as she was dead anyway, "I did."

"Why?" Klaus stepped on Sophie's hand and pushed the full weight of his body on it, "How did you find out about her?"

Sophie howled in agony, "Th-the darkness." She screamed as he began twisting his foot further crushing her hand, "They told, ARGH, me about C-Carol-line," she whimpered tears falling down her cheeks, feeling nothing but pain she screamed, "SHE'S YOUR WEAKNESS!"

Klaus kneeled on Sophie's chest, his hand wrapping around her throat, "Why did they want to send her to the past?"

Sophie coughed up blood and wheezed out under the pressure on her chest, "They want to destroy you."

"Why the past though? What would having Caroline there do?" Klaus pushed his thumb deeper into Sophie's larynx.

"I don't know." Sophie voice was barely above a whisper, her body almost giving up, death was coming to claim her.

Klaus slammed Sophie's head into the ground, his unbalanced emotions finally showing, tears leaking from his eyes, "WHY KILL HER?"

"What?" Sophie could hardly keep her eyes open, her heart was slowing down, if she shut her eyes again she would be dead. With her last ounce of life she croaked, "She's...n-not...de-de-dead..." She released her last breath and died. At least she would finally be reunited with Jane-Anne and Monique in death.

"YOU LIE!" Klaus screamed at Sophie's corpse, sobs escaping his throat as he stood, "I remember. She and Henrik are dead. I lost her before I ever really had her and it's all your fault." He kicked Sophie's corpse before whirling to Hayley's too and kicking hers, "AND YOURS!"

The pain engulfing Klaus was too much to handle. His switch hovered in his mind, the urge to flip it was almost overwhelming. He saw Caroline's face. His eyes turned golden, his fangs lengthened and he growled. His bones broke, black fur grew on his body, and then he was transformed into his wolf.

Klaus's wolf threw his head back and howled out his pain at the loss of his mate.

He turned and ran deep into the trees.

AN - I am so sorry but I had to end it there. This chapter was originally supposed to be the present and the past but the present kind of got away from me and it would have been entirely too long so I ended it here. So, I am going to try as hard as I possibly can to get the next part out as quick as possible.

I really really hope you liked it! I really enjoyed writing the Kalijah. Stefan's figured out that Katherine is possessing Elena. Klaus has remembered some of the past and shall we say...has gone a bit crazy. The 2nd half was rather on the dark side - some of you will like Hayley's death and some of you will not - I even shocked myself as I wrote it. Let me know what you think. Until next time X X X
