Yamato

My mother basically tackles Taichi. First she kicks my guitar though, which I guess is my fault for leaving it on the floor. When she pulls away from Taichi, the brunette looks..scared. And confused. My cheeks heat up instantly.

"Mom!" I snap, annoyed.

"What!? I'm allowed to hug Taichi! he was like my third son once, you know!" She says back. I roll my eyes. Then I notice my mom looking around the apartment.

"What is this?" She asks. I can hear the horror in her voice. Apparently Takeru does, too, because he takes a step away from her.

"Er. My house?" I ask. Taichi eyes are on me. They're wide, and scared.

"It's so...plain. How do you live here? I'm fixing it! That Hiroaki. Ugh! Men! Where's your clothes? I bet you need new clothes, don't you?" Yep, I knew it. Mini-tornado mom. I watch as my mom disappears into the hallway that leads to my room.

"Now you've done it, Yama. You do have decent, mother approved clothing in there, don't you?"

"Er." I say, I have all the clothes I brought with me, but that wasn't much.

"YAMATO ISHIDA!" My mom suddenly screeches. We all flinch.

"Yes, mummy?" I ask, scared of what I did.

"What the hell is this? We're going shopping! Your room! The furniture! Yeesh!" My mother reappears, a look of disgust across her face. I laugh.

"Okay, mom. We have to wait for Kari though." I say. My mom lights up immediately.

"Oh! I'd love to spend money on dresses! When is Kari going to be here?" She asks, suddenly excited.

"Not too much longer." I say, moving to take my spot by Taichi again. I don't say anything about kicking my guitar. There's no point, because it is my fault. I left it on the floor. Even if it wasn't actually in kicking range. My mother sits in the chair Kari normally sits in, and stares at Taichi until he shifts uncomfortably.

"So! Tell me about your life, Taichi!" She says. Taichi tells her about his life, mot of it skirting around the edges of reality. Skipping the abuse, Justin, and currently living here. At some point, Takeru took up residence beside me, and is leaning to look around me to watch Taichi. I notice he's dressed in designer clothes. He looks too good to be a twelve year old. I pull on the leg of his jeans. They're the skinny jeans.

"What?" He asks, turning his attention to me.

"You're pants are too tight." I inform him. I am his big brother, after all.

"They're designer." He says, saying the word like it was a God or something.

"And they're too tight. Someone's going to rape you." Takeru's eyes go wide, and he looks at his pants.

"You think?" He asks quietly.

"Yes."

"Yamato! Don't scare your brother." My mother snaps, Taichi jerks beside me. I laugh. Takeru hits me. It's not really a hit, he just flicks his arm into my chest with a grunt. It makes me laugh again.

"I'm going to get you back for that," he promises. I grin at him. God, I missed my brother. There's a gentle tap on the door, and it opens.

"KARI!" Takeru yells without getting up. I hear her little laugh.

"Hi, Takeru!" she says, even though she can't see him. A second later, she appears in the hallway.

"We're being forced to go shopping with my mom. Apparently my clothes are appalling." I tell her.

"I never said that." My mother says automatically. Taichi shifts beside me. He opens his mouth, probably to protest.

"Oh, really? That sounds fun!" Kari says cheerfully. Takeru and I share a look, before my mom is ordering us to get ready. Fifteen minutes later, we're following my mother to her car.

"You can sit in front." I tell Taichi. He looks like he's going to argue, but then changes his mind, after looking at Takeru. I sit in the middle of the backseat, Takeru sits behind my mom, and Kari sits behind Taichi. My mother always plays the same song in the car first. Every. Single. Time. It's just a matter of when she turns the music on.

"Shouldn't you tell dad were you went?" Takeru asks as we pull away from my apartment. I shake my head.

"We'll be back before him, probably." I say. Which is true. Takeru gives me a strange look. I always have hated being alone. Even he knows that. We both see our mothers hand going for the button that turns her CD player on.

"Baby, you song, you make me wanna roll my windows down, and cruise!" Takeru and I sing together. Taichi immediately spins around to watch us. Takeru and I both mimic the country accent, earning a slightly annoyed look from our mother in the review mirror.

"Yeah, when I first saw that bikini top on her

She's poppin' right out of the South Georgia water

Thought, "Oh, good lord, she had them long tanned legs!"

Couldn't help myself so I walked up and said

Baby you a song

You make me wanna roll my windows down and cruise

Down a back road blowin' stop signs through the middle

Every little farm town with you

In this brand new Chevy with a lift kit

Would look a hell of a lot better with you up in it

So baby you a song

You make me wanna roll my windows down and cruise"

Takeru continues to sing, but I'm more distracted as to where we're going. I notice my mom singing, too.

"Where are we going?" I ask, curious, mostly.

"I did leave her once, Yamato. I do know where all the good stores are."

"Oh," I say, leaning back against my seat. The song changes, and I join my brother in singing that one, too. Occasionally, Kari sings a line or two, but that's it. My mother's mouth is in a tight line when we finally stop.

"We're doing Kari first." She informs us. We follow my mother into an expensive looking store. She says something to Kari about anything she wants. Takeru, Taichi and I venture away, looking at some of the dresses. I can't imagine Kari wearing any of these, honestly.

"Oh, God." I hear Taichi mutter.

"What?" I ask, coming to stand beside him. He shows me the price tag of the dress. I nod.

"That's about right, yeah." Taichi looks at me like I'm crazy.

I don't know how long we spend in the store, shopping for Kari, but awhile later, Takeru, Taichi and I, are piled with bags, and stumbling back to the car. We go to a different store that's near by for Takeru. He doesn't get much. He only takes fifteen minutes. Then it's Taichi's turn. My mother is circling him, hmming. He looks nervous. I have all intentions of intervening, should she go overboard.

"I think," she says. "that these would look on you." She holds up a pair of pants for Taichis inspection. He pales.

"Mom, no!" I whine, pulling a pair at random out, and thankfully, they're more like the pants Taichi's wearing now. "These." I say. I think it might be the look in my eyes, but she takes them, and holds them up against Taichi's waist, then she smiles.

"I like it!" She decides, then sends Takeru, Kari and I to find more pants like the ones I had shown her, and shirts to match. I'm the last back, because I found a shirt with stars on it that I knew would look good on the boy, I just wasn't sure what color to get. I picked blue and yellow. As I approach them, I hear Kari's cell phone ring.

"Hi, mom." The girl greets. There's a pause. "We're shopping with Yamato, Takeru and their mom." Another pause. "Okay. Bye."

"I think that's the fastest conversation I've ever heard you have." I tell her, appearing from around a clothes rack. She gives me a dirty look, before turning her attention to my clothes.

"You took forever." She points out.

"Yea, I couldn't decide on colors for a shirt."

"Which one?" Kari asks, pulling them from my hands. I indicate the one with the stars.

"Oh, I like it.." I hear Taichi mutter quietly. I smile.

Taichi

When Natsuko finally finishes with my clothes, she turns her attention to Yamato. She circles him, like she did me. He doesn't seem nervous though. He actually seems..bored. Natsuko sighs.

"You look good, but they aren't designer, are they?" Yamato shrugs.

"Why do they have to be designer?" He asks.

"Yes!" Natsuko shouts. I flinch.

"Well, go!" Yamato says, sitting down on the ground. He makes a shooing motion, and his other takes Kari and Takeru, and they go in search of clothes for the blonde.

"Sit?" He asks me. I sit beside him. "Sorry. She's excited.." He mutters.

"It's alright. It's kind of fun." I say.

"Pfft! Yea, as fun as shopping can be." He says with a laugh. I nod. Natsuko flits around him for awhile, then decides he has enough.

"Does she always spend this much money?" I hear Kari whisper to Takeru, who shrugs.

"Yea, I guess." Neither of the blonde siblings seem worried about the money Natsuko spends on us. Kari and I spend most of the car ride back to Yamato's thanking her, which she brushes off.

Back at the Ishida apartment, my mother and Yamato's father are waiting for us. It takes two trips to bring up all the stuff she bought, even leaving Takeru's in the car.

"So, why did you move out of your moms, again?" My mother asks Yamato. I turn in time to catch is vague wave towards Kari and I. My eyebrows shoot up in surprise. My mother just kind of nods, but doesn't say anything. Yamato begins pushing his pile of clothes into this bedroom, with his feet.

"Yamato Ishida! You better pick those up, right now!" His mother snaps. Yamato bends down, giving me a very nice view of his butt. Then he scrunches all the clothes up, and carries them all into the room.

"I will beat you if you put those on the floor!" Natsuko calls.

"Yea, I know!" The blonde calls back. My mom laughs and turns her attention to Kari and I.

"So, it's safe for you guys to come home, tonight. We'll be moving at the end of the month, though." I nod my head. Kari shrugs.

"Okay, mom." She says quietly. I don't think she wants to leave, either. We have dinner together, on Natsuko, who insisted. Then Kari and I gather the clothes we'd had in Yamato's bedroom. Even though the blonde had taken like, half an hour to come out of his room, the clothes we're piled on the dresser. To give him credit, though, they were folded. We gather our things, and leave with a good bye.

Home feels weird. The house is silent and empty. Scary. It's still home, with everything there. Everything except my father. A shiver runs through me, but I push it away. I take my shoes off, and head into my bedroom. I drop the dirty clothes in my bag into the laundry, get clean clothes, and go to shower. No one stops me. After my shower, I collapse on my bed, and sleep, dreamless.

I wasn't expecting Yamato at school, since his brother is here. To my surprise, the blonde's waiting for us outside the school property.

"Hi." I say. My God does he look good in his uniform.

"Hey. How was home?" he asks, as we walk onto school ground, and up steps into the front doors. I chew on my lip.

"Strange." I admit. "It feels empty, even though everything is there." I tell him, eyes casting across the body's in search of threats. There are none. I turn my full attention to Yamato, whose chewing on his lip now. It's kind of attractive.

"I bet." He says slowly. "We're having a movie night, if you want to come." He adds. His lip gets left alone, now.

"Oh. I'd have to talk to my mom." He the school day begins, and we don't get much time to talk. Everyone wants to know about me. But I don't want to tell anyone about me. Yamato helps me evade most of the questions, thankfully. I'd kiss him, if I could.
