Chapter 5
June 27th 2008
Ridge Forresters relationship with Ashley Abbot had been a whirlwind romance from the start, the same as his sons relationship with her daughter, however, the sparks had been dwindling and problems had started to surface, starting with Ridge finding out about Ashley's relationship with his stepbrother Rick Forrester while Rick was in Paris causing Ridges daughter pain, although, unknown to Ridge, that pain wasn't as deep as he thought. Ridge had thought that he had found the woman for him since the disappointment that his relationship with Brooke hadn't been what he thought it was and that he had wasted so many years longing for a woman that had been so manipulative and deceiving and taking her side over everyone in his own family. Watching what Taylor had with Nick he knew that that is what he wants, but knew that he and Brooke did not have the foundation for that and so when he met Ashley he thought that she might be what would give him that. Both of them knew from the start that they didn't want anymore kids, they both had a career that they didn't wanna give up, but when Ashley's contract with Forrester Creations was up, she was planning on going back to Genoa City and since Ridge works at a family company based in LA, it's a problem.
"So, three months to go." Ridge says as he and Ashley are having lunch. Ashley looks at him with sad eyes and says "Yeah, unfortunately. I can't do a long distance relationship and I doubt you'd wanna go with me to Genoa City. We knew that in the end this might just be a short fling even though we might have wanted it to be more." Ridge sighs and agrees with Ashley.
"So what do we do? Do we just let go and try to stay friends because of our kids relationship. Because that's what I think we should do because a relationship between us just wouldn't work as we stand today and a difficult break up even when we know we won't work just doesn't make sense." Ashley takes a good look at Ridge and sees that he truly means he wants her as a friend and not just because of their kids relationship but because he really wants her as his friend. She thinks about it for a second and finds she agrees with him. "We let go and hope for the best, I have a feeling that Thomas and Abby have a better foundation than we had and they seem to be so strong in their love for one another. I really don't think we'll have a bad relationship after this since we both know we just won't work out as a couple. So we start building a friendship and support our kids in everything they decide to do."They looked at each other and thought to themselves "We've had a good five months, at least we didn't break up because of someone else. That it was our decision and not anyone elses." "I think they kind of already knows that there have been problems in our relationship, I know Thomas and Abby at least know some of it."
As their lunch was starting to wind down they talked about things that were less serious and mostly was about work and thoughts about how long it would take for Thomas to realize that Abby was the one for him. They then went about their own business and felt relieved that letting go was easier than they thought. They continued spending time together and the news they were to receive on Christmas Day that year were surprising to the both of them.
Katie Logan had been feeling a little lost since Rick had come to talk to her about what he had found out about her sisters relationship with the men in her life, because everything she had believed about her sisters feelings and personality was so far off the truth and finding out that her oldest sister was so manipulative just didn't fit the picture that she had painted in her head of the beautiful woman with the good heart that had been hurt so badly by the so called love of her live and his mother. Everything she had heard though was shattered when she heard that Brooke had kept Ridge from being with the woman he wanted to be with by lying about two pregnancies and never believing that it was her own fault that he left. Both of the younger Logan-sisters had been feeling a little lost after finding out everything what Brooke had done in Taylor's dreamland and then finding out the truth of what had happened in the past made them question their view of their sister. Katie had been sitting in the coffeehouse for the last half hour nursing a cup of coffee just reflecting on her past and her beliefs, when a dark haired tall handsome man came walking through the door and ordered a coffee, he looked around the room and seeing that there were no empty tables, he let his eyes wander and caught sight of one of the loneliest looking people he'd ever seen and he figured she'd probably need some company, he got his coffee and walked to her table and asked "Hey, is this seat taken?" "No, it's free. I'm Katie Logan." Bill looked at her a little surprised and then he introduced himself. 'I'm Bill Spencer, what's on your mind?' Katie looked at Bill and felt like this was someone she could talk to about just about everything. So she spilled her guts and he could see that as the story progressed she relaxed and the stress just left her body. As he listened he also found out a lot of details of her past and felt he needed to return the favor and told her his entire life story. At the end of their conversation both of them felt like this was the beginning of a beautiful friendship that might even turn into more. Their relationship blossomed after that and really did turn into more ending with a wedding in her old neighborhood in January two years later. It was a beautiful romance from start to present and nothing was coming in between them. Or so they thought, trouble was heading their way in the form of a boy and his friend.
Phoebe had decided that a empire cut floral dress would be the way to go, also adding a thinly knitted cardigan and a pair of flats. A small pendant necklace and some earrings that semimatch the necklace round up the whole outfit. She had been given strict instructions that she were to meet Kimberly at a specific place a little bit outside of LA and to blindfold herself since Kimberly had sent a car to pick her up! She said goodbye to her sister and her brother and skipped, yes skipped, out to the car, planted herself in the backseat, put her blindfold on and started humming a song that would later turn into their song. Suddenly the car comes to a complete stop and she hears the car door open and feels a hand touch her arm, lifts it up to take the hand of the person so that it can help her get out of the car. As she had gotten out of the car, she felt the hand leave hers and felt a smaller hand take a hold of both her hands and it was like the lightning strike shooting electricity through her entire body, she gasped and almost felt like she was falling down, but the arms that connected to those hands wrapped themselves around her and she felt secure in them.
Kimberly had also felt the electricity in her body and had almost the same reaction that Phoebe had, the reason she only had almost the same reaction is because she was sure it was coming because she had the advantage to see what she was doing as Phoebe was still blindfolded. "Hey, maybe we should take this blindfold off don't you think?" Letting Phoebe go to take of the blindfold was really hard, but she had a feeling that she'd have Phoebe in her arms again before the night was over.
After having had the blindfold taken off, Phoebe shook her hair out and blinked because the sunlight was hurting her eyes slightly. She looked around for a while and then settled on the sign above the building. Laughing a little she exclaimed "We're going bowling?" Kimberly wasn't sure if Phoebe was being sarcastic or not stated "Yeah, we are. If you don't want to go bowling we can do something else, there is nothing saying we have to go bowling." "Well, let's go try out the shoes then" Phoebe stated and practically ran into the place and up to the counter, when she got to the counter though she could hear the first notes of the song she had been humming in the car on the was playing on the radio. And as she told the guy behind the desk what her shoe size was she could hear Maggie Reilly start singing:

As she listened to the lyrics and remembered what had happened outside just a few moments ago she realized that the song reflected what she felt when her and Kimberly touched, since they hadn't kissed yet, she couldn't know about the flying part, but she could imagine what it would be like. As she stood there by the counter waiting for Kimberly to get her shoes she got this urge to kiss her, but decided not to because they hadn't even had the date yet.

Unknown to Phoebe, Kimberly was having the same urge and she, unlike Phoebe, went for it. She looked at Phoebe and placed her hand on Phoebe's cheek and placed her lips gently on Phoebe's and the feeling that came from that shocked the both of them. It was intense pleasure combined with their knees becoming weak and then came the sensation of flying high off the ground. Their hearts started racing like never before and they noticed their breaths getting caught and finding themselves out of air they let go and just looked at each other. " I need to sit down for a while" Kimberly nodded and agreed completely. "Yeah, me too."

The wind was like a hurricane
Storm clouds filled the sky
I heard a crash of thunder
The earth shook in reply
The guy behind the counter just chuckled and asked them if it was their first kiss. "Together yes, but not our first first kiss" Phoebe stated. "Infact, I believe our first first kiss was with the same guy." Kimberly looked at Phoebe curiously and then she stated "Yeah, Rick Forrester, we dated last year, it didn't go to well." Then the guy said "Well, he's got the magic touch then doesn't he, turning two gorgeous girls like you into lesbians! I'm kidding, he's quite the ladies man though isn't he?" Phoebe thought for a moment, "Yeah, I guess you could say that, I mean, he snatched my brothers girlfriend from Thomas just for fun. But let's not get into that. Let's bowl!"

And that is exactly what they did, for two hours straight, then Phoebe heard a rumble in her stomach indicating that she was hungry so she asked Kimberly if she wanted some food and that she did. They ordered a pizza and a bowl of french fries to munch on with two glasses of ice tea to drink. After they finished with the food, they went back to their lane and bowled some more. It ended with a TKO with Phoebe winning by over 50 points and Kimberly being the great looser she is, went and got two ice cream cones. As they munched on the ice cream, Kimberly said "We should totally do this again some time, I mean, I need a chance to redeem myself, I better than that I promise!" Phoebe sneaked a glance at Kimberly and said that she totally agreed.

As the night was drawing to a close and Kimberly was driving the car back to LA, they talked about a lot of things, like what their favorite television shows were and ice creams and foods and all those little things that you might talk about during a first date.

"Hey Kimberly! Do you know that we have a song?" "Let me guess, the song that was playing when we went inside the bowling alley?" Phoebe looked at Kimberly a little taken and stated "Yeah, how did you know that was the one I was thinking about?" "Well, it described how it was when I first met you, how it feels to touch you and most importantly how it feels to kiss you." Kimberly sneaked a peak at Phoebe while she talked and the look on Phoebe's face told her that Phoebe thought the same thing, however Phoebe had one more thing to add to it. "When I was in the car on the way over there, I was humming that song and it just felt right, I didn't exactly remember what song it was at the time, but it clicked when I walked up to the counter."
After their first date many more followed, in September that year, they decided to be an exclusive couple, when it came to introduce each other to the other ones parents Kimberly had the easy job being that Sally and Adam already knew about who it was that Kimberly was dating and they totally approved. Phoebe had it a little bit harder since Ridge weren't even aware that there might be a chance that Phoebe was even a lesbian, but with Taylor's help, Ridge came to see things as they were and not what he thought they were and he could see that the love shared between the two was the real deal and he stood behind them completely.
That November, Thomas disappeared for a few days and when he came back he looked really happy. He had a surprise planned for Abby and it was important for him that it went smoothly. Thanksgiving rolled around and the gathering at his grandparents were bigger then before since four more people had been added since the family dinner in June. It went off without a hitch considering how much drama there usually was during their family dinners. Zach and Bridget came with Nick, Taylor and Jack since the Marone Mansion was just a mile or so away from the beach house where Zach and Bridget were living so they had decided to pick them up on the way there. Thomas had went and gotten Abby from her apartment in the city and they got to the Forrester mansion with Steffy and Ridge. Sally, Adam, Kimberly and Phoebe came together since Sally and Adam had picked Phoebe and Kimberly up from Kimberly's place down town after a date that ended with a game of poker that lasted until the small hours of the night and Kimberly had asked if Phoebe wanted to spend the night. Thorne had picked up Felicia and Dino at their place and Ally at a friends house
The dinner was a huge success, the only mishaps were Jack spilling his milk, Abby knocked over a glass of grape juice and Pam accidentally dropped the desert. Other than those incidents nothing major happened until the end of the night when Zach decided that now was as good a time as any. He asked Eric ifhe could talk with him for a moment and then asked Taylor if she could come with them. As all three of them came out Taylor had a huge smile on her face, Eric was glowing with pride and Zach looked extremely nervous. "Bridget, can I talk to you out on the patio for a moment?" Bridget looked at him sceptically and agreed. As they walked outside they closed the door and everyone inside looked at Taylor and Eric with interest and Phoebe asked. "What's going on?" As Taylor answered with a "Look outside and you'll see" everyone looked outside and saw Zach bend down on one knee, Bridget lift her hands to her mouth., then putting them on Zach's cheeks gently helping him up and giving him a very passionate kiss. Then they see Zach sliding the ring up on Bridget's finger and everyone starts clapping their hands. As Bridget and Zach enter the house again everyone shouts "Congratulations!" Ridge stands up, goes to Zach, gives him a handshake and a hug and says "Welcome back into the family, you couldn't have chosen a better woman to spend your life with."
The first week in December brought many changes into the life of the Forrester Family, specifically one individual in particular. Eric Forrester Jr had finally realized what he wanted to do with his life and had told his father and mother that he was going to start taking law classes so that he could start law school next fall. He had been spending some time with his Uncle Storm the last few months and found law gave him a sense of sanctuary that fashion didn't give him.
As he was walking through the bookstore looking for the books he'd be needing for the next few weeks, he noticed a woman looking after books in the pocketbook section and her long pinstraight blond hair reminded him of a girl who was a few classes under him in High school so he walked up to her, laid a hand on her shoulder and recoiled due to the sheer power that the jolt sent through his body. "Seriously, what was that all about" The girl was turning around and her brown eyes were looking at him with curiosity. "I have no idea. You look familiar though. I don't suppose you went to Meadow Woods High School a number of years ago?" She looks at him surprised. "Yeah, I did. Did you go there?"
"I did actually, graduated about ten and a half years ago. I'm Rick Forrester!" "Ah, your that kid who got married at 18 cause you got your younger sisters babysitter pregnant. How did that turn out? I'm Lannie Jaks by the way, graduated about 8 and a half years ago" Rick looked slightly embarrassed and said "Didn't go very well I'm sorry to say, it'll take a while to disclose everything that has happened since then, if you'd like to hear the story I'd love to buy you a cup of coffee." "I've got time for a story, don't need to be home for at least two hours. I'll buy some muffins for that coffee, what's your favorite?" Rick thought for a while and then came to the conclusion that blueberry was it for him. After they had paid for their books, gone to the coffeehouse and ordered, gotten their order and sat down at a table Rick started telling the story and the bond that started between them was stronger than anything they had ever felt. As he finished, she looked shocked. "I can't believe all that happened, I don't get how someone can be so cruel." "I can, I've done almost the same thing to my stepbrothers daughter, I went after her because of things that my mother had told me about events in her life that included my stepbrother that my father told me a few months ago didn't happen the way she told them to me. Me and my mother had a falling out over it. But now I see that I can't do anything about it because my mother is not my responsibility, my life is. So I'm gonna go to Law School next fall and I plan on graduating with high honors." "I really hope it works out for you."
"Do you maybe wanna go out on a date with me?" Rick asked. "I'll think about it, give me your number and I'll let you know my decision." With that and the fact that their coffee was finished, Lannie said goodbye and walked out of the place leaving Rick behind with a smile on his face.
It was no coincident that they had been sitting in the same booth as Kimberly and Phoebe or Katie and Bill had months prior. Somehow that booth inspires the Forrester's and Logan's to find their significant other, and find them they totally do.
Christmas 2008 held many surprises for everyone. It started with Taylor, Nick and Jack arriving with Taylor in a gorgeous fitted red dress with white fur looking lining showing off her small bump alerting everyone that the Marone clan was growing once again. Jackie was the first one to notice them when they walked through the door and her mouth dropped to the floor, she grabbed at Stephanie who was closest to her and pointed. "Look, look, look." Stephanie looked and she almost had a heart attack. She lost her footing and landed in the couch and her mouth was almost on the floor. "Eric. Look who's here!" Practically everyone had the same reaction, Ridge had another reaction though. He stalked up to Nick, fist pumped him and gave him a big congratulations hug. Then Bridget spoke. "See, I told you all there would be more Ticky-kids coming!" At this, Taylor chuckled and said "You have no idea how right you are!" Nick looked at her confused. "Oh, I can't hold this in anymore. I had been feeling extremely big for only being 3 months along, so I booked an ultrasound just to check exactly how far along I am and guess what, I'm three months along. With twins!" To this Nick fainted and everyone came to give Taylor a hug to congratulate her.
Everyone except Brooke, who looked at her with disgust in her eyes. Those babies were supposed to be hers with Nick. After his hug with Taylor, Rick could feel that someone was looking his way and as he looked at his mother, he knew he needed to get her out of there. He stalked over to her and asked her if he could take her home because he didn't think that she should be there. Waking up from her thoughts and hearing what Rick said, she agreed, she didn't feel like she had a place there anymore and therefore didn't need the heartache of Nick and Taylor being pregnant again. "Hey everyone, my mother isn't feeling very well, so I'm gonna drive her home and then come back here." "Hope you come back soon!"
On the way to his mothers house, his mother stated more to herself then him, "I didn't even know they were trying for more kids." Rick could hear the regrets in his mothers voice and told her "Well, I don't think they were trying at all, it's probably that the shots she had to take to go through with the IN-vitro when they were planning for Jack got her fertility started, but I think that these two will be their last. I hope this pregnancy goes better than her previous ones though." "Me too, Nick deserves to have these kids and Taylor deserves to be able to watch her kids grow up." Brooke had finally come to terms with the fact that she would never be with Nick again. As Rick left her house, Brooke went into the kitchen, grabbed a glass of water and went up to bed with a book.
On his way back to his father and stepmothers house, Rick got a text from a number he had never seen before. It said:
"Yes, I'll go out with you on a date, but I can't until after New Year. /Lannie Jaks"
When he walked into the Forrester Mansion, he had a big smile on his face and what he walked in on gave him an even bigger smile.
