Chapter Three

October 19th 2014

Stevie sat staring at the TV, three days had passed since Greg had left and her feelings were very much up in the air, Sunday 19th October, despite the time of year the weather wasnt too bad and Stevie was unimpressed at just spending her time sitting on the sofa, her motivation was gone though, she had been angry with Smithy for doing the third night shift in a row, when all she really wanted was him to be close by. It was now fast approaching 9am and she knew it wouldnt be long until the Inspector arrived home. They had a blazing argument before he had left the night before, in which she had told him she didnt know why she had married him in the first place, of course she did know, she loved him and he was the only man she had wanted. Glancing over her packed suitcase she could feel the pang of guilt in her chest, her actions were laying heavy on her heart but she knew what she had to do. Hearing the front door crash open she gulped back her fear and rose to her feet, Smithy entered their living room and smiled, he hadnt noticed her bags and she was a little thankful she could tell him before he worked it out. "Hey.." he spoke as he moved towards her, he kissed her cheek and sunk down onto the sofa "I am so sorry about last night... I have got a few days off now.. and I have made sure I am not on the graveyard for at least a month... I will not be neglecting the needs of my wife again..." he smiled and she sunk down next to him, "Smithy we need to talk..." he sighed "No more talking.." he moved into her lips and she pulled back from him, her subconsious made her take a glance at her bags and his eyes followed, he glanced back to her "You going somewhere?" he asked and she nodded "Im leaving you Smithy". He shook his head "I dont understand... it was just a stupid row.." she sighed "I dont know what to say.." he cut in "We only got married three months ago... I just... I dont get this... I love you.. I thought you loved me.." she glanced down "I do"
she spoke quietly and he grabbed her chin and forced her eyes back to his "Then why are you ending our marrige.. whats so bad that we cant work it out?" he asked. "I just need some space... please dont make this difficult". He rose to his feet "Make this difficult... you are leaving me.. what am I supposed to do... just wave you off". She frowned "We can talk tomorrow... I will call you" she moved to her suitcase and pulled it out into the hall, he appeared behind her and grabbed her arm "You cant do this... tell me why Stevie?" she shook her head "Smithy please.." anger covered his features "Is there someone else?" he asked. She sighed "No" her face fell to the floor and he instintaly noticed the regret "Has there been someone else.." she looked into his eyes and nodded "Yes". He released his grip "You've cheated... I gave you everything... why?" he shouted. "Its not how you are imagining it.." he frowned "Why did you marry me?" he asked and she glanced down, he moved towards her "People warned me.." he shouted "Once a slut always a slut... and I thought no.. not my Stevie.. she wouldnt do that... she wouldnt hurt me like that". Tears rolled down her face "I am so sorry" she whispeared "Sorry dont really cut it Stevie... you are my wife.. and you.. you let another man.. get out". Tears rolled down her face as she gripped for her suitcase, she took another glance up at him "I.. I dont know what to say Smithy.." he stared at her "I hate you" he spat "After everything.. you have ruined my life.. your a skanky little tart". She headed out the front door and heard it slam behind her before she broke down in tears, dragging her suitcase to her car.

The next day at work Stevie felt uncomfortable, Smithy wasnt here, he had the day off but she was sure everyone was talking about her. Her heart was breaking, she couldnt make a smile trace her lips. Seeing the door open she glanced to Nate as he headed inside, he did a scan of the room before he looked at her, she waived and he ignored the wave before he turned from the room and walked back out and so it begun she thought to herself, from now on she was to be an outcast, she was sure of it. She turned to her computer and glanced over the screen before grabbing her phone, she had text Smithy, to ask if he was ok to which he had ignored her, but what did she really expect. Hearing the door bang once again she glanced to the DC "Mickey am I glad to see you" she smiled. The blonde man headed to his desk and she turned to him "Is everything ok?" she asked and he glared up at her "What do you reckon?" he asked "I know what you did... everyone knows what you are Stevie.." she cut in "This isnt all down to me.." he laughed "You cheated... you telling me Smithy has too?" he asked and she spun back to her desk. Feeling him lean over her shoulder she sighed as he spoke "Smithy may not by perfect... but he worshiped you.. you are a lying two faced little cheat... I want nothing more to do with you". She watched him go and turned back to her computer, it seemed Smithy was capable of turning the whole station against her without being there. This was bad, infact this was worse than bad.

"Open up mate..." the man shouted through the letterbox "Its bloody freezing out 'ere" he paused taking a glance at the neighbour watching out the window, he wanted to stick two fingers up at her but thinking better of it he turned back to the closed door "Smithy" he shouted. The door opened abroubtly "You are in... I thought you couldnt hear me.." Smithy frowned "I should imagaine they could hear you in bloody Australia... what do you want Stone?". The sergeant frowned "I wanted to make sure you were ok Smithy.." he pushed his way inside and Smithy frowned before closing the door "You did text and tell me your wife cheated on you.." Smithy nodded "She is a.." he paused "How could she do this?" he asked and Callum shrugged "Tramp... I have made sure everyone hates her... teach her a real lesson". The Inspector frowned "And is that going to make me feel better... a few people call her some names... is that going to stop me feeling like my life is over... that I have lost my soulmate Callum?". He shook his head "No.. but it will make her feel worse". He glanced over Smithy and smiled "Go and get your glad rags on... we are going on the pull mate... best way to get over the little slapper is to get under another one". Smithy shook his head "I cant.. I dont want anyone else". Callum smiled "Well it will still help to get pissed up... go and get ready".

Arriving at the pub Stevie knew instantly it was a bad idea as her and Smithys eyes met before she had even made it to the bar, but she had never been one to back down she ordered her beer. He was watching her, she could feel it. His eyes were burning into her, she glanced over and noticed his werent the only ones. He was sat with Callum, Nate, Mickey, Jo, Kirsty and Leon. She gulped back a mouthful of her drink before moving towards them. She went to sit in the vacet chair between Callum and Jo but he grabbed it, pulling it under the table "Its taken" he spoke. She nodded "I'll get one from a different table". Callum shook his head "Dont bother... you aint welcome here" she frowned "This is nothing to do with you..." she replied "Its none of your buisiness.." he smiled "I am making it my buisiness so do one". Jo frowned "Callum.." he glared at his fellow sergeant "She aint welcome.." Stevie sighed "Its nothing to do with you Callum... Smithy?" he finally looked at the small blonde and his eyes already told her what was coming "Jog on Stevie" he spoke "No one wants you here". She nodded slightly placing the glass to the table and turning away "You have never been Mr Innocent Smithy.. d'you remember Louise?" he shook his head "That was completely different" she smiled "How?" she asked and he glared at her "Because it is us Stevie.. I never thought you could hurt me.. so do the right thing and walk away". She nodded and began to head to the door and hearing Callum behind her he laughed "Watch out for that slut boys.. you might catch something" she paused on the spot to recompose herself before making her way outside.

Once outside she heard Jo call her back "Stevie... hey wait up.." she turned back to her and smiled slightly "Dont get to close Jo... you might catch something.." the sergeant laughed "Dont be stupid.. come here" she pulled her into a hug and Stevie sobbed "Why do they all hate me... its between me and Smithy". Jo nodded "I know... but you must of known it was going to be like this.. where are you staying?" she asked. Stevie sighed "Last night in my car... Smithy stopped our cards..". Jo nodded pulling her keys out "Take yourself back to mine and I will be there later... grab yourself a shower and I have a spare room for as long as you need". Stevie felt the tears rise in her once again "Thank you... it means so much". Jo nodded "He may be popular Stevie... but I dont believe he is completley innocent in this.." Stevie nodded "He is.. he has every right to hate me but... its not how it seems... how he is making it out to be.. I never set out to hurt him.. and I love him more than I could ever say.." Jo smiled "How did it happen?" she asked and Stevie shook her head and sighed "Thanks for this... I will see you when you get in" she turned and headed away as Jo made her way back inside the pub.
