Chapter Eight

December 25th 2014

Stevie had opened the two small presents her parents had sent to her, a bottle of perfume she knew she would never wear, it was much more her mums taste than her own and some socks, it was then it dawned on her how hard christmas could be on your own. She had decided against the christmas dinner and it wasnt until late last night she realised all she would be having for christmas dinner was cheese on toast. She flicked the TV on and layed back into her bed, she went through some of the channels most of which were childrens cartoons. She had recieved two texts this morning, one from Jo and one from her mum, she guessed that nobody else would really give her the time of day. She thought of the last year, she had married the man she loved but look where that had got her. Hearing the bang on the door, she flicked the tv off and headed over, she pulled it open and smiled slightly "Smithy.. what are you doing here?" she asked. He smiled "Its christmas... here" he held a present out to her and she grinned "I had no idea... you didnt have to do this". He nodded "I wanted to" she sighed "I havent got you anything" he shook his head "It dont matter". She stepped aside "Where are my mannors... come in" she spoke and he stepped inside. He rested onto the bed and lifted the socks "My mum" she spoke "Always impetical taste in presents". He smiled and gestured to the present "You going to open that" she moved and rested down next to him, she carefully unwrapped the paper and glancing over the box she opened it up and stared at the diamond necklace "I dont know what to say Smithy... its gorgeous" the diamond heart shaped lock and key on the long silver chain she couldnt help but think how perfect it was. She moved into his body and he held her close. He smiled as he pulled back "I am glad you like it.." she grinned "I love it". He sighed "We had so many plans for today... do you remember?" he asked, she nodded "Course... bucks fizz for breakfast... followed by board games.. our roast dinner.. you were going to wash up.." he cut in "We" she laughed and continued "Then we were going to play on the wii... before spending the evening.." she bit her lip and he laughed "In the bedroom". She grinned "It would of been an amazing day... have you and Anna-Marie got plans?" she asked and he shook his head "No.. I erm.. I told her I was going to see my mum.. I didnt really want to.." he paused and glanced round "You not cooking your roast yet?" he asked and she smiled "No.. the menu consists of cheese on toast". He frowned "Sounds perfect". She smiled "Do you want to stay?" she asked and he nodded "I would love too".

He smiled to Stevie sitting next to him on the bed as his phone rang "Its Anna-Marie" he spoke. She nodded "Answer it.." he shook his head "Na.." he placed it onto the bed and she smiled "Dont ignore her because of me.." he frowned "Its fine.." she pushed up and looked at him "How did you put things right with her?" she asked. He glanced at the phone as it began to ring once again "I just explained to her you will always be a big part of my life.. I was all set to end it.. she begged me not to so here I am". She smiled "Talk to her Smithy.." he shook his head "I dont love her.." she stared into his eyes, knowing what was coming she grinned "I have a date.. on Saturday.." she couldnt deny the hurt in his face but he had a right to know. He nodded slightly "Do you not think its... a bit soon?" he asked and she smiled "Most probably... but you know what.. I need to get my life back on track.. seems like a perfect way to start". He nodded "I hope it works out for you". She grinned "He seems nice enough... he is an accountant" Smithy laughed and she hit his arm "What?" she asked. He shook his head "Nothing... its just.. will you not get bored" she smiled "What do you mean?" she asked. He grinned "You just.. you like excitment.. you need someone who can keep you on your toes.. who can make you.." he laughed and she frowned "Make me what?" she asked. He laughed "Scream the way I can" she laughed "Mr Smith.. I will have you know I am going on a first date.. I have no intentions of letting him any where near the areas that make me scream.." he glanced over her firgure and she slapped his arm "I know what you are thinking... and stop it". He smiled "I have never fancied anyone as much as I did you... I still do.. you drive me crazy" she glanced down and he smiled "But you are stunning.. he is a very lucky bloke... and I hope he knows it". She smiled slightly "I might get started on the cheese on toast" she rose to her feet and headed into her small kitchenette. The man followed "I am sorry... I didnt mean to make you uncomfortable... its just.. I dont believe anyone will ever be good enough for you... I have such fond memories of us and nothing is ever going to change that" she smiled at him "I know... me too".

"Smithy..." the sergeant called as he headed to the bar "Thanks for coming mate..". Smithy gestured to the bar "What you having Callum?" he asked. "Pint please". The Inspector ordered the drink and turned back to the man "Its a good party... loads of people here.." the mans attention drifted and Callum laughed to himself as he followed his superiors eyeline "She is looking fine eh mate?" he grinned. Smithy turned his attention back to the man "What you on about mate?" he asked. Callum nodded towards the small blonde "Stevie..". In her small black dress, a zip all the way up the front, she was stood laughing with Mickey and Terry, clearly without a care in the world. "Yeah.. she is something special" Smithy replied before taking another sip of his beer. Callum laughed "You got it bad mate..you cant keep your eyes off of her". Smithy shook his head "Dont talk wet... she is my friend". Callum nodded "Sure.. so why are you itching to look at her again?" Smithy rolled his eyes at the man "Do one Callum.." he stressed before turning back to the bar, although he would never admit it Callum was right, he would never stop himself staring at her, he couldnt tear his eyes from her, she was more than beautiful. He had always worn his heart on his sleve and no more so than with Little Stevie Moss.

"Fancy a dance?" she asked, he looked at her quizically "Dance really?" he asked "Stevie Moss do you not know me at all?" he laughed. She frowned "Its a party Dale Smith... its what people do at partys... or are you completley incapable of having fun?" he sighed "I dont like dancing.." she smiled "You know they say that how a person dances... shows what they would be like between the sheets". He shook his head "Well the only way you will be finding that out sweetheart.." he paused as he leant into her ear and whispeared "Is to get me into the sack" he winked at her before walking off. She followed him with her eyes as he went, it was safe to say she had, had a crush on him for a few years but he had just taken it to a whole new level when he had upped the flirting. He stayed within her eyeline for a few moments before she noticed him pull his phone from his pocket, she guessed it was ringing, he looked frustraited as he moved out the door and into the beer garden.

She pushed lightly on the door and frowned as she saw him with his back to her, he was sat on a the top part of the bench and she listened for a few moments as he laughed and joked without a care in the world to the person on the other end of the phone. She placed her hand to his back and he glanced to her as she moved round him. She had stopped just infront of him and he grinned at her, he was eyeing her curves through her little dress. He glanced away before replying to the person on the phone "Yeah me too... see you soon" he hung the phone up and pushed it into his pocket. "Ok? she asked and he nodded "Yeah peachy" he replied, she smirked slightly and he continued "My mum.. she had a 'prang' in her car this morning... wants to know if I can pull some strings and sort it..." she smiled "Can you?" she asked. He grinned "No.. DS Moss.. she did an emergancy stop infront of a car to avoid hitting a pidgeon..." Stevie smiled "And you cant do anything because?" he sighed "Because that would be breaking the law.." she laughed "Shes your Mum" he frowned "Its good to know where your loyalties lie sweetheart... I wouldnt break the law for anyone.." she smirked "So you could never be temted to do anything... that you shouldnt do?". His eyes drifted over her as she teased her fingers down her neckline. "I always do things I shouldnt... I am aiming to change my ways and only do things I should.." she noticed his eyes drift over her legs and she smirked "So what should you be doing Smithy?". He reached out for her hand and she bit onto her lip as he pulled her towards him "You know damn well what I should be doing right now.." he grinned slightly "But we both know I aint going to do it" he pulled her purposly into his body and before she could respond his lips were on hers, her body was pushed against his, her hands holding tightly onto his shoulders as his wrapped round her waist. His lips felt alien to her, a tingle was shoting up and down her body, his lips were soft and he tasted sweet as his tounge invaded her mouth, sending her to pieces. This was it, her life was meant to be spent with Dale Smith.

"Our first night.." she noticed his grin as he glanced across the bed at her as he collected the last of the crumbs from his sandwich "I saw fireworks.. honestly it was the best of my life.." she smiled at him "It was good.. and it was the start of something truely amazing... and I honestly wish it hadnt had to end the way it did.." He sighed "Then dont let it... give me another chance.. I love you Stevie... and no one is ever going to come above you" she frowned "You are with Anna-Marie.." he sighed "Say the words and its finished... come on.. I know you still love me". She nodded "I do love you Smithy... I will always love you.. but I cant trust you.. you betrayed me.. when I needed you the most" he moved towards her "No.. no Stevie.." he pushed his lips tightly onto hers. She responded for a few moments "No.. please dont Smithy... I think you should go".
