Derailed chapter 16

. . .

Austin straightened his tie in the mirror and took a deep breath. This was it: his big night. In a few moments he'd see Ally in the dress she'd been keeping secret. Trish kept taunting him for the last two days with how beautiful Ally looked in it and soon he would be able to see for himself. Sure, there would be plenty of people there to see them and as excited as he was for everything that would happen, the most important part was that Ally would be by his side and they could celebrate together.

Well, he hoped they would be able to celebrate. All the buzz he heard was that he was the obvious choice to win a Billboard Music Award but nothing was certain until it was announced. Even if he lost he didn't think he would mind because he finally got to walk Ally down the red carpet for the whole world to see his gorgeous fiancee.

She flew in the for the first weekend of May and ended up spending friday shopping for the dress with Trish and wedding planning with Mimi that night. But he got to see her in person for a while every day for three days which was more than they'd had since his visit to London in March when he proposed. On Saturday Austin claimed all her attention while they drove around Miami looking at houses and neighborhoods where they would live after they got married. Ally was trusting him to pick a place while she was in London finishing her classes, but this was another chance to talk about what they wanted, their likes and preferences, together. Just a few months now and they would be married and moving into one of those houses. He was ready.

A knock on the bedroom door pulled Austin from his thoughts with one last glance at the mirror. His dad grinned at him from the hallway and Austin went downstairs to find Ally waiting for him. He froze at the base of the stairs and just stared. She was gorgeous in a dark blue dress and her hair curled to perfection.

"Ally. Wow." he said.

She smiled and held a hand out toward him. He regained control of his body and moved toward her, sliding his hand into hers.

"Not so bad yourself." she commented in return.

"You two look so good together!" Mimi cried happily as she snapped some photos of the couple.

"They look almost as good as we did at that age honey." Mike said as he slipped an arm around Mimi's waist and hugged her to his side.

"Oh stop." Mimi said with a pleased smile. "Now go win some awards Austin."

"Thanks Mom." Austin said as he ushered Ally out the door to the waiting car and driver Jimmy hired to take them to the event.

No matter what it was going to be a good night: of that Austin was certain. Ally was by his side, his career was picking up again with the release of some new songs, his dad's health was improving and profits at Moon's Mattress Kingdom were up. Nothing was going to bring him down tonight.

. . .

Ally glanced down at her hand and the diamond ring glinting in the morning light that streamed in through the classroom windows. It was the first of June and she was about to take her last final. She was one step closer to graduation and her future.

She had been busy since Austin proposed to her on their one year anniversary. She worked hard to make sure she did well in classes so she could ace every final. She spent hours on the phone with Austin talking about anything and everything, pinning down details, and making decisions together. She also logged hours talking with her family and his as they made plans for their wedding. And she slowly began packing, a few things here and there that she wouldn't need, her shelves emptying one book or keepsake at a time. Soon all of her belongings would be shipped to Miami.

She was going to stay busy even with school over. Austin was flying in that night so he could be there for her graduation in a few days. She had parties with her friends to fill the weekend and then she and Austin were off around Europe. He was doing a short summer tour during June and half of July and she was going to be there with him. When he organized it all with his producer Jimmy Star, Austin made sure they would stop in Germany for a few days. Penny was slowly warming to the idea of their marriage and they were going to spend time with her. Ally hoped to get her involved in the wedding planning just a little, even if it was last minute.

Then after the tour they would be married on July 13th. They decided to get married in London since the city was special to both of them. Their family and friends from the U.S. already had plane tickets and Scarlett, Austin's manager, had worked her magic once again and helped Austin and Ally find and book a hotel for them to stay in.

Just over a month and she would finally be married to her best friend. She would live in Miami in the house Austin bought last week. She kept all the photos he sent on her phone and glanced through shots of her new house daily as she got ready for that life to start: the next chapter where she would be known as Ally Moon. She couldn't wait.

. . .

Ally played through the song one more time, making sure she had written down everything she wanted in the new song on the sheets in front of her. Several pages were smudged where she'd made corrections and changes with her pencil, but she just had to get this right being the perfectionist that she was. Ally continued to scan the handwritten sheet music as Austin walked into the room with a glass of water for her.

She gratefully took the glass and drank some. She set the glass on the top of the piano and slid over a little so her husband could sit beside her on the bench.

"How is the new song coming?" he asked as he slid a hand lovingly over her round belly.

"I think it's done. Oh! And baby knows that daddy is here too." Ally said, placing her hands on the sides of her belly as well. They grinned at each other as they felt their baby kick.

"She's going to be a dancer." Austin said.

"Or He will play soccer." Ally responded.

It was their ongoing argument. Ally wanted a mini Austin running around while Austin wanted a mini Ally to spoil. They decided to be surprised and not find out the baby's sex at her ultrasound. So they played this game while they waited for their baby to be born. The due date was fast approaching.

When they told their families that they were finally pregnant three years after they got married, Mike and Mimi were simply over the moon. Lester was excited to be a grandfather and Penny, who was now stateside again working at an animal park in San Diego California, was even happy for her daughter. She came around and grew more supportive as she saw how Austin and Ally worked together and loved together. She couldn't deny that they were a good couple after all but she still had never come close to apologizing for separating the two as teenagers.

The baby kicked several times in quick succession. "Tap dancer." Austin and Ally said in unison. He chuckled and shook his head at their talent for thinking the same thing at the same time.

"How is the painting coming in the nursery?" Ally asked.

"Almost done. I finished the second coat of green on the walls and tomorrow I'll touch up the trim." he answered.

"Thanks babe. Sorry I can't help you."

"You're doing enough work down here writing my next hit and growing our baby. Keep up the good work." he joked.

Ally laughed and then their eyes met. "I love you." she said.

"Love you too." Austin replied and kissed her lips softly. They jerked apart as they felt the baby roll and they stared at Ally's belly in awe.

"One more month, right?" Austin said.

"If the baby waits that long. He's getting more active and moves almost all the time now." Ally said.

"Should we call your mom?" Austin asked.

"No. She's planning to visit after the baby is born. Your mom will be here and has offered to help with anything I need until I deliver. It means a lot to me that she's always been supportive of us."

Austin lay his head on Ally's shoulder and looked down at his hand splayed on her belly as he rubbed gently. "Our baby is going to be loved by so many people. Maybe being a grandma is what your mom needs."

Ally laughed. "Maybe. Either way, I have you and we make a pretty great family."

"Yes we do." he agreed.

The baby kicked again.

The End

. . .

So maybe this is a random place to stop but it feels good to me. Forgive me for not writing another wedding - I feel like those are done in plenty of stories and what you imagine for them will be the best in this case. I wanted to give you a little glimpse into their married life but I'm not prepared to spend several chapters there. This story has come a long way from a little image in my head of Austin and Ally being reunited at a concert after a long time apart! I'm happy with it and I truly hope you are too. Thanks for going on this journey with me and reading my stuff - it means the world to me. Let me know if you liked it!
