WHENFIREANDICECOLLIDESPARKSFLYWHENFIREANDICECOLLIDESPARKSFLY

Throughout the 300 years Merida was a guardian, She had been watching people of all ages to see how everyone acted with one another. This was also how she became an expert on love herself. By watching relationships bloom and the do's and don'ts. Everything had changed. The way people dressed and acts, and how there were 'presidents' instead of kings and 'the Whitehouse' instead of a kingdom. She was now in the 'United States' in the year '2013'. Well, soon to be 2014 since it was almost December. And when there was December, there was snow. And when there was snow…

Merida stopped at that thought. 'That's right, Jack's coming over. He should be here any minute!'

After last night, Jack said he would come and get her when he was on his way to see Jamie, and Merida thought it would be a good opportunity for Jack to meet the triplets.

Merida was sprawled out on the bed, crimson curls spread out onto the bed. Right now she was fighting her feelings and so many questions were running through her head, and more or less, she was the 'Too-embarrassed-to-ask-mother-these-kinds-of-questions' type of girl. Does she like him? Did he like her? Should she tell him what she was feeling? She did like someone once, but she never liked to talk about it. Whenever she thought of the word 'crush', it made Merida cringe, because she had never felt comfortable with that word. (1). Merida rolls on her side, and sighs.

"It's ironic Willow. The expert and guardian of love is confused about 'er feelings. What do I do?"

Willow simply stares at her with an innocent blank look. Merida gives a small smile. "Don't blame ya far not havin' an answer there." Lying on her stomach with her feet dangling in the air, she rests her cheeks in the palms of her hands (also known as the 'girl-thinking-about-boy' position). This was certainly new, she never thought she would spend so much time thinking about a boy, let alone crushing on one.

She shakes her head furiously. 'No! It's not a crush! I'm might just be…overwhelmed…with this guardian thing…and…his smile…and attitude…and-'

Her thoughts were interrupted as she heard Elinor call her.

"Merida! There's a charming frost guardian down here who requests your presence!"

She silently chuckled. People these days NEVER talked as formally as she did. She grabbed her arrows and bow from the corner of her bed and sprinted down the hall.

When she entered the throne room, she was met with the sight of Elinor talking with the frost spirit. Elinor did seem to enjoy having Jack around. Well, she didn't blame him, he was quite charming. And Merida cringed at the thought of calling him 'charming'. Jack gives one of his infamous smirks as he notices Merida in the room for the first time. "Hey, Merri. Ready to go?"

Instead of acting nervous about her previous thoughts, she brushes the embarrassing thoughts with a grin. "Yar darn right ah'm ready to go. Boys!"

The three said boys came running from behind their mother's throne. Hammish, Hubert, and Harris. The boys were almost impossible to tell apart, with their orange curls and baby blue eyes (from their previous life), but for Merida, it was never a challenge, for she claimed them as her own brothers.

The boys wave in unison. They run towards the winter spirit, already taking a liking to him. Harris climbs into Jack's hood, making him chuckle. Hubert examines his staff with fascination, and jumps when it shoots frost, slightly frosting his hair, which makes him shakes his orange curls. Merida rolls her eyes with a small chortle and Elinor gasps at the boys' first impression.

"Boys! Get off 'im him. You'll tear th' poor lad apart!" Elinor clears her throat.

"Jack. This is Hammish, Hubert, and Harris. They are th' young cupids who gives young lads and lasses their first crush." Jack nods in understanding, and grins. To be young and have your first crush must have been very exciting (not that he can remember).

Merida bids the older female cupid farewell, as they depart for the town of Burgess. ('No, it's not a date, Mum! Th' boys are with me!' she hissed quietly though her teeth).

The group of 5 spirits walked toward the exit, with Willow at her side.

While Merida and the boys spread their wings and wait for Jack to take off, he simply hopped off the edge of the cloud without a care. Merida looked terrified, ran to the edge, and peered down.

"J-JACK!" she calls out. She hears a laugh as they see the mention boy flying using his staff and the wind.

Merida turns and also sees the triplets laughing. Hammish mocks Merida's actions by pretending to look devastated, which made the boys, including Jack, laugh even harder.

Merida pouts and runs a hand through her bush of red curls. She had forgotten for a second he could fly. What was wrong with her today?

"Ah'll get ye back for that, Frost." She mutters, but gives a smirk.

In a deep hole in the middle of Burgess forest, there was a man with a british accent, black hair streaked with grey, pale grey skin, and golden eyes stares at his apprentice in anger.

"Wrong target? That's never happened to me before!" he growls in frustration, but sighs. "Well, what was the target that the arrow hit?"

The said apprentice disintegrated into black sand, creating Merida's form with her wings. The man raised an eye ridge. "Does she have any connections with the other guardians? Is she still alive?"

The fearling returns to its original form, and nods at both question. Pitch remembers who this girl was.

"So, this is cupid's number one helper, huh? I remember lover boy stating that the number one helper always has to hang on to…it." He hisses the last part.

The nightmare king smiled. He turns to his mob of fearlings. "Everyone. Let's split up and find that girl. She must have the thing we've been searching for. Don't stop until-you've- found her" Pitch gives a step between each words and an evil smile. The plans processing in his head were only the beginning…

The 4 red-heads and Jack landed in a neighborhood that is only familiar to Jack. Almost as soon as they landed, a young boy, who looked about 12 (2), had mousy brown hair and shining similar colored eyes. In his right hand was the hand of small female toddler, who was now 4, had hair and eyes opposite of her older brother. Bright golden locks hung in front of her face, and as soon as she saw the guardians, her emerald eyes had a hint of glee in them. The older boy smiled as well and waved with his free hand.

"Jack! Hey!" he shouts while running toward them. But he stops as soon as he spots the red headed guardians. He gives a small wave, usually what he does when he first meets someone he doesn't know but wants to be polite.

"Hello. Who are you guys? Are you guardians too?"

Her eyes widened. "Y-ye can see me?"

He gives a small nod.

Merida gives smile and bends to eye level with him.

"I am Merida. I am the guardian of love."

Jamie raises his small eyebrows.

"Love? Are you cupid? I thought Cupid was a boy."

She was starting to like this boy. He seemed so polite and somewhat like a typical naive boy.

"No. I am cupid's number one helper. Ah'm pretty quite proud of my title."

He lets out an airy yet bubbly laugh. "I like your accent. It's pretty cool."

"Thank ye."

The little girl runs from behind her older brother in a not so shy manner. When Merida picks her up, she grabs for one of her fiery bush of hair. She giggles childishly. Jamie looks slightly embarrassed.

"Sophie!"

"It's ok Jamie, I love the wee ones."

"Fluffy!" She giggles again. This makes Merida laugh along too.

"Hey Merida, want to meet my friends?"

"Sure." She smiled. It felt good for another human to see her physically.

As if on cue, a group of kids came from behind the fence. A girl with short brown hair and brown eyes wearing a cream colored beanie was the first to notice Merida. When the girl looked into Merida's rosy colored eyes, she felt…something. Not for her, of course, but from. She smiles. "Your eyes are really pretty miss."

Merida looked kind of shocked as she did with Jamie. Kids were not able to see a cupid member until they learned how to love. Not only in a significant other kind of way, but also through family, friends, and even sentimental objects."Thank ye." She tilts her head off to the side. "Tell me, Lass. Do ya have a crush on anyone?"

The girl's eyes widened and her face was slowly covering in pink.

"H-how did you know? We just met-" Realization finally kicks in. "Are you…Cupid?"

"Not exactly. More like a henchman. And just a lucky guess, I suppose?" She stuck her hand out politely. "Th' name's Merida, by th' way."

She smiles. "Oh I can't resist that accent. By the way, my name's Pippa. A-And it-" She turns her had away. "Jamie…" She mutters in a low voice.

Merida couldn't help but smile. She thought of Pippa as her younger self. "Yer secret's safe with me."

A voice was yelled across the yard, which belonged to Cupcake. "Hey! Are you coming or what, Pippa?"

Cupcake is suddenly in front of them." We're not gonna start without you-" she stops, spotting the bush of red hair out the corner of her eyes. "Who's the chick with the wild hair due?"

Throughout the snowball fight, everyone was against themselves. When Merida raises her arm to throw a snowball, she was hit from behind by Jack. The snow melted into her fiery locks and she smirks and molds the snow into a ball. "Here's th' payback fram earlier, Frost!"

But before she had a chance to throw the snowball, something else hits her in the back of her head, and it wasn't a snowball. When Merida rubbed the back of her locks, instead of cold white snow, cold black sand graced the tips of her fingers. When she turned around, she was met with a pair of golden glowing eyes, that flashed danger. Before she had a chance to move a muscle, Pitch grabbed the collar of her blouse, lifts her up, and growls. "Where…is…it?" He asks with anger in his voice.

Merida only raised an eyebrow in response, but inside, she was terrified. "I have no idea what yer talking about."

This response only makes Pitch angrier. He clutches the collar tighter and raises her higher. "Liar! You know quite well what I'm talking about." He growls in her seemingly calm face.

Merida glares at the man she's never seen before. She knees Pitch in the stomach, causing him to drop her. Trying to look unfazed by the nightmare king's actions, she glares at him. "If I say I don't know what yer talking about, then I mean what I say. I don't appreciate bein' called a liar, ya crazy madman!" She snaps, even though she was quite terrified.

Jack was pretty amazed at the redhead, listening to Merida snap at the nightmare king like that, while the kids were trying not to laugh, and look terrified. Quickly, after snapping out of his thoughts, he forms a snowball , and aims for Pitch. It hits him on the side of his temple, which makes Pitch turn to face him, giving him a terrifying smile. "Why, Jack Frost. So glad to see you again. I tried to give you a little present yesterday but sadly, your little loudmouth girlfriend received it for you."

Jack narrows his eyes. "What are you doing Pitch? I told you we're not afraid of you anymore."

Merida looks toward the arguing duo, than quickly flies unnoticed to the crowd of terrified kids and stands protectively in front of the kids, her bow and arrow loaded.

"I Know she has the Flame. I've been searching all the cupid guardians all over the world. She has to have it!"

Confusion washes over Jack. "The flame of- What?"

Pitch does nothing but growl. "I'll be back. But be warned, You can't get rid of fear completely…" He descends into the air, his minions following. Merida turns to the group of kids. "Everyone alright?"

The group of kids nodded. Jack walks over to Merida and looks her into her fiery fuchsia eyes. "Merida…He didn't hurt you too bad, did he?" he asks in a too serious tone, even for Jack. Merida shakes her head slowly.

"Dude, that was so cool, the way you stood up to the bad guy!" The boy with dark skin, or Caleb shouts excitedly.

"Yeah, you are like one of the coolest girls I know! Besides me, of course." Cupcake smirks and crosses her arms while Pippa rolls her eyes at her girl friend's ego.

While receiving praise from the young group of kids, Jack leans in and whispers to her, "Enjoyed meeting these kids so far?" while giving an infamous smirk.

She nods in response, her red hair bouncing a little. "Actually, ah did."

After bidding the kids farewell, they all went home. When Merida looked back to Pippa, Jamie was giving his close girl friend a goodbye hug. Even from a distance she could see the blush spreading across the 12 year old girl's face.

"So-" Jack starts, "I've noticed Jamie and Pippa have gotten a lot closer lately. Was that your work?" He laughs and looks to the fluttering triplets above him. "Or was that the work of the 'wee devils?'"

The four siblings laugh and look at each other. "You tell me."

Jack clears his throat, hinting what he was about to say was serious and important. "Hey, before you go home, I wanted to show you something. You're my friend, so I figured I can trust you now."

Merida looked to her younger siblings, to which they smirk and get the hint. They bid Jack farewell, and fly off into their home's direction.

Merida follows Jack to a place she possibly had never seen before. They land in front of what looks a large, frozen lake. Merida turns to Jack, raising a confused eyebrow.

"Jack, why exactly…are we?"

He turns to her. Merida could have sworn he looked like he was about to cry, because his eyes were glazed over. Her magenta eyes were now full of concern, thus she gave him her undivided attention.

"Merida…This is Lake Burgess. This…" He turns away, to which Merida gives him a sad look.

"…The place where not only my sister, but I died…"

The curly haired redhead put a hand up to her mouth, an inaudible gasp passed through her rosy pink lips.

"Y-you had a sister? But how do you remember…"

"Tooth gave me my memories…"

"You can do that? Have memories of your other life?"

"Yeah. You can ask Tooth when you're ready."

Merida frowned. She had known what he meant by "when you're ready." She could easily be affected by her past life. But nonetheless, Jack is back to his old self within a matter of seconds.

"Well, come on, let's have a little fun. It's not like I brought ya out to be miserable." He says, stuffing his fist into his hoodie pockets and smiling. Merida laughs. "That wouldn't be very Jack Frost like, now would it?" He smirks and walks closer toward her. "Well, I am the spirit of fun, after all…" he mutters in a low voice. Their faces were merely inches apart. Merida cocks her head to the side, trying her best to hide the redness in her round face. To be honest, she didn't know whether she liked it or not. So she did what she always did when she felt afraid. Ignore her feelings.

"So…Ice skating?" She questions, raising an eyebrow. Jack laughs. "Yep, it's pretty fun." He holds out his hand. "C'mon, if you can't, It'll be awesome to teach you." Merida glanced from his hand and to Jack's eyes, which seemed full of eagerness. Merida shrugs and gives a crooked smile. "Guess it never hurts to try something new…" He pulls her out onto the ice, making the redhead nearly slip.

"Jack!"

"It's okay, I'll catch you when you fall…"

Damn, why did he have to use the most cliché line? She didn't want to fall and embarrass herself, but she got the natural hang of gliding on the ice, she didn't even need skates.

But there was something about this moment, something about holding his cold yet comfortable hand as he led her on the ice, something about him laughing not at her, but rather with her as she made mistakes. Merida laughed along with him, she didn't see why she thought he would laugh and make fun of her if she fell.

Jack, on the other hand, was admiring how she was such a quick learner. And the way she laughed at her mistakes, instead of whining and crying out, 'I can't do it! I'll never be able to…' She was always eager to try new things, even if it involved a little fear.

When they stopped, they did nothing but stared at each other, taking in each other's features. Jack with his frosted white hair that seemed oddly majestic, and his crystal blue eyes that matched the frozen lake. The way his arm wrapped protectively around her waist, his literal cold nature making her feel ironically warm.

Merida with her round pale face, small but thick rosy pink lips, her red swirls glowing in the moonlight, almost as if Man in Moon himself was smiling down on her. Her bright pink eyes that shimmered with passion and determination. He wonders, for a split second, what color they were when she was human.

Merida was the first to break contact, slowly freeing herself from his subtle embrace. Jack then spoke up.

"Ah…so, I'll fly with you home, is that okay?"

"A-Aye. Sounds…good."

"So, what did Pitch mean by a 'flame'?" Jack questions as they walk alongside the castle, after they land.

Merida folds her arms and frowns, fiddling with the edge of her white sleeve. "Ah'm still not sure. I really meant what I said earlier. I have to ask Elinor."

Jack turns to her at the mention of the older cupid. "I meant to ask you, is she your mother?"

She shakes her head. "Nae. She's just someone who works alongside me. I consider my mother, though." She turns to face him. "Thank ye Jack. Today was a lot of fun."

Jack shakes his head and chuckles. "Ah, it's never a big deal"

She walks toward the door and grins. "See ya 'round."

"Yeah. You too."

When she steps inside, she walks down the long hall and turns into the dining hall to see her mother. "Ah, Merida. Great to see you back. Fergus and the triplets were out, and I was starting to get lonely." Elinor grins. "How was your date with Jack, love?"

She threw her head back and groaned. "It wasn't a-" Aw screw it. "It was fine. He's very kind."

"You know, if I didn't know any better, I'd say he fancys you." Any other girl would have screamed, 'oh my gosh you think so?' but Merida just shrugged and shook her head. "Doubt it. I'm going to turn it."

"Alright. See you in the morning." Merida walks away to her room, unaware of her happy grin.

But Elinor caught it the moment she turns away and smiles herself.
