And now you can read it! And things are slowly getting better.

Chapter 16:
Truths that Come to Light
Bella looked at her father and the two Winchesters that was standing in the doorway of the living room wondering what the males had been talking about. The doorbell rang again and the brunette headed for the front door leaving Jasmine to come the rest of the way down the stairs by herself. The older girl raised an eyebrow in the direction of Sam and Dean making both boys shrug in return that they had no idea who was at the door. They heard the door open and Bella talking to someone and the smell of pizza and breadsticks started to filter throughout the house. Dean's signature smirk appeared across his face as he walked over to where Bella was paying for the pizza and breadsticks and took the pizza box and breadstick box in his hands.
The aroma of the pizza was close to making Dean drool and Bella elbowed him lightly after shut the door so Dean wouldn't be tempted into digging into the pizza already. He proudly carried the boxes past the living room and into the kitchen grinning at Sam and Jasmine like he had won some sort of prize. In return, both the other two rolled their eyes watching as Bella followed Dean into the kitchen to get plates and napkins for them. Charlie winked at both Sam and Jasmine before leading the two into the kitchen behind Dean and Bella to get their own slices of pizza and breadsticks. Soon the five of them were eating the pizza Charlie ordered and discussing the case of dolls and Mr. Murray's ghost they had just encountered days before.
By the time they were finished with the pizza and breadsticks the conversation turned to if Dean and Sam had any idea how Dean had escaped Hell. Dean tried his best to explain things to them, "I don't remember Hell-" He cocked his head to the side. "It was like I just came to. I had to dig myself out of my grave. My first thought was to find Sam and once I had done that I wanted to look the girls…" He trailed off momentarily. "But Sam and I decided against it and instead started hunting again. Maybe it wasn't the right way, but we were just trying to protect them." Dean tried to explain it to Charlie like he had Jasmine and Bella.
Charlie frowned slightly at this, "Well, you boys already know what I think on this subject so I won't beat it to death, but how did you get out?"
In return, Dean shrugged and sighed, "I don't know. Sam swore up and down that it wasn't him." He sent a look toward his younger brother.
Sam rolled his eyes in his brother's direction. "I am telling the truth! I hunted for a way constantly to bring you back but none worked. If I had been able to I would take credit for it!" The look on his face was so convincing that Jasmine and Bella both looked like they believed him, but Dean still had a look of doubt on his face. They knew why Dean was so doubtful because of how Sam had tried so hard to break Dean's deal before hand that made him that way.
Charlie cut in, sensing that the boys had this conversation too many times and he decided he didn't want to hear it. "So that leaves the big question. Who or what did pull Dean out?"
Both Jasmine and Bella nodded in agreement to Charlie's words as they both had been wondering the same thing since they found out Dean was out of Hell.
"I have been trying to research what has the ability to have done it, but I haven't figured out anything with that type of power other than demons. I have come up with nothing, every single time and it is driving me nuts that someone or something other than me got him out." Sam remarked trying to control his temper.
"Dad might know a way to find out how Dean got out," Jasmine replied thoughtfully while biting her lips. "He seems to have a knack to figure our things that other can't,"
Charlie nodded at Jasmine's words looking around at the other four sitting at the table with him. "You are right, Jazz. Your father has been in the business a long time. What he don't know he can find out." He would have mentioned John as well, but Charlie was reluctant to open old wounds with the boys. John had always been able to find out a lot that others didn't know, but the whole way he did it wasn't always something Charlie approved of. Charlie couldn't say anything against John as he knew he did the best he could with him never really getting over Mary's death. He still wished that John would have thought of his boys in some ways more than he did, but him and Bobby did their best to help.
"Then shouldn't somebody call him, so Uncle Bobby can start looking," Bella asked glancing up from her slice of pizza. There was a look in her eyes that spoke of the pain she was feeling almost like she had the same thoughts as her father.
"I already did that what the four of you said that you were on your way here." Charlie remarked back with a satisfied smirk. "He said that he was coming up here to meet us." Charlie knew this information was going to make Jasmine very happy because her face was already lighting up. "It might take some time for him to get here. He will have to get someone to man the phones while he is gone." The police chief chuckled to himself about his old friend.
Jasmine looked extremely happy that her father would be coming soon though by the way Dean and Sam paled they were afraid of Bobby's shotgun. "It will be good to see the Old Coot." The spiky haired girl spoke as she stood up collecting all the empty paper plates to throw them away. She didn't have to pretend that she didn't know why the boys looked pale and had to smirk slightly knowing that Bobby wouldn't let them off the hook as easy as Charlie. Her father had always been quite a stern man and would make sure the boys understood his position even if it would be hard words for the Winchesters to hear. She cleared the rest of the table seeing that everyone was done eating and put the leftover pizza in the fridge, not seeing the stern look Dean and Charlie were giving Bella.
"Why are you giving me that look?" Bella asked looking between Charlie and Dean biting her lip at the intense glances and she couldn't help but avoid their eyes.
There was a moment of silence after Bella's question and it made her nervous to realize that neither Jasmine or Sam would meet her eyes while Dean and her father just looked at her. "Bella," Charlie finally started to speak for all of them. "I think it is about time that you tell me and the others the truth about some of this with the Cullens.
"What are you talking about?" Bella responded with wide eyes, trying to give Charlie the puppy look that she learned off Sam so many years ago.
Charlie only frowned in response not letting the puppy look effect him and there was twin snorts from Sam and Dean because Bella wasn't going to get away with not answering them. "Victoria, Bella…" Dean spoke frowning as Bella refused to look at him. "You never told us what happened to the redheaded bitch." He accused.
Bella looked like she was going to say something to protest when Jasmine broke in with a short glare. "Don't try and deny it Bella. You know we are not stupid."
She ducked her head unable to look any of them in the eyes and she didn't hear the slight footsteps coming toward her as Bella sat there. Dean had moved almost silently until he was standing directly there in front of her and reached out to grab her shin to make her look at him. He saw that she really didn't want to meet his gaze and forcing her brown eyes to meet his green eyes he could see the tears that were starting to form. "Talk to us, Bella. You trusted us with everything else, Baby Girl. Come on." He let out a small growl when she shook her head in response. Dean let go of Bella's chin unable to believe that him even asking wasn't getting her to open up and that not only troubled him but angered him as well.
He usually didn't get angry at Bella like he did with Sam and sometimes Jasmine, but the fact that she wasn't trusting him as she always did was insane. Dean never thought that Bella would hide something from him and the others and this wasn't something that he wanted to ever get use to when dealing with her. He cared about her in his own way and he had hoped the kiss would have proved that to her and he thought Bella understood. Maybe he was wrong though, if she wouldn't talk to him when he asked her about the most important thing. How could he trust her? "Now, you are doing just what Jasmine was doing earlier! Hiding away!" He growled out slamming his hands into the table in front of Bella.
None of the others said anything, not even Charlie as they knew just how vital it was for Dean to get Bella to open up to him and get everything off her chest. Bella looked like a deer caught in the headlights of a car seeing that all the others were waiting for an answer and she realized that she couldn't avoid this. "I don't want any of you hurt because of me…" Bella stuttered out her chocolate eyes echoing that she was truly afraid of something happening to her family. That was the honest truth when she lifted her gaze to Dean's he could tell that she truly did believe that by telling them they would be in danger and hurt.
"Hoe could we get hurt, Bells?" Sam spoke up with his hazel eyes boring into hers as he spoke to her for the first time since Dean and Charlie started this conversation.
Bella bit her lip again unsure if she wanted to go into all of this, but now that she started Bella knew that she couldn't stop. "Because she is still around… The Pack at La Push and the Cullens haven't been able to catch Victoria yet. It is like she knows how to always stay one step ahead of them. It is like she is waiting and when she comes I don't want you guys to get caught in the middle of revenge…" Bella trailed off seeing the dark looks that the others were sharing.
It wasn't too much of a surprise that Charlie spoke up first, his voice actually sounding gruff from emotion and anger. "You can't really think that as you father I am going to let some vamp take a bite out of you! You are my daughter and I will protect you!"
The brunette blushed at her father's words, but at hearing the chair next to her sliding out Bella looked up to see Dean sitting down beside her. His green eyes had gone dark and he was inwardly cursing the vampires that had brought Bella into this dangerous situation that she was scared of. Some would think it was weird that he was upset at the situation she was in when hunting was always dangerous, but to Dean it was two different things. "Baby Girl, I understand that you were trying to protect us and I know all of us appreciate it, but it would upset us more if you didn't let us help." His anger was gone with her words, but he still had this urge to kiss her, to claim her and he still had to talk to Charlie.
"Don't you understand that by hiding things from us by trying to protect us that you are putting yourself in worse danger." Dean cut her off when she tried to speak. "And don't say anything about those Cullens and the Pack. None of them know you are a Hunter and that could put you in a terrible spot. Not to mention that I wouldn't trust either of them after them both abandoning you." A dark look crossed Dean's face as he held Bella's gaze forcing her to recognize his words and what he was trying to impress upon her.
Bella went to say something more though she wasn't sure that she should and then Dean decided to point something else out to his brunette girl. "And now that I think of it how could the Cullens leave you behind when they didn't take care of all the nomad vampires." He hissed out. Bella blushed brightly knowing that Dean was right though she had never looked at the whole situation that way and she stood up motioning them to follow her into the living room.
"I never looked at it that way before, but I don't think they thought of the prospect of Victoria coming back." Bella remarked as Charlie sat down in his recliner.
Sam was standing near the doorway of the kitchen while both Jasmine and Dean were standing close to were Charlie was sitting. "Maybe they didn't realize on some level that they were leaving you in danger, but they should have made sure that all the loose ends were tied up." Sam agreed with his brother. "Though I am surprised that Dean talked this much to scold you." Sam snickered in Dean's direction who rolled his eyes in response. He was right that Dean didn't usually talk as much as he had here in these past few minutes, but then again Bella could always bring that out in Dean.
"Bite me!" Dean snapped at Sam giving his younger brother a deep glare and crossing his arms. Jasmine let out a snort of laughter looking at Dean before trying to cover her laugh with her hand so he wouldn't realize. "What is so funny, Jazz?" He asked turning his glare to the girl he could hear snickering behind her hand.
"We are talking about vampires and you said bite me!" Jasmine squeaked out between giggles, dropping her hand unable to hold in her laughter anymore.
Dean rolled his eyes again before turning toward Sam and Bella. "Sammy, I think you're going to need a new girlfriend because this one might be broken…"
Jasmine huffed with her arms crossed as she glared at Dean, violet eyes clashing with his green ones. "Careful or I will give Baby a tune-up of my own."
"You wouldn't dare!" Dean remarked angrily, though anyone could see in his face that it was mock anger. Charlie tried to break the two of them up, but was not getting any help from Sam and Bella who where chuckling at the pair with Bella using Sam as a crutch to stand.
The purple haired girl turned away from the older Winchester and flipped Dean off making him chuckle. "Sorry, you're not my type, Singer."
Jasmine smirked in Dean's direction before looking at Bella and then back to Dean. "Yeah, Winchester. We all know what your type is."
Bella turned bright red and quickly darted into the kitchen barely hearing Sam's laughter only grow as Charlie looked at Dean. "Something I should know, son?" Charlie already had a good idea what was going on from the way that Dean and Bella had been acting since they had returned to Forks together. He knew from little up Bella always had a soft spot for Dean and Charlie also knew the older Winchester had a soft spot for her as well. That is the thing that always got Charlie about Bella dating Edward as he was the complete opposite of Dean. To be honest Charlie always preferred Dean when it came it came to Bella dating because he knew Dean was loyal to the core even if he was a little rough around the edges.
He didn't mind the age difference between the two for Bella was always quite mature for her age despite some of the decisions that she had made recently. Charlie knew deep down even if Bella didn't want to admit it that Edward had been just a poor replacement for Dean who had been unreachable at that time. Despite that fact that Charlie liked Dean and hoped this meant what he thought it did, it didn't mean that he was going to make it easy for him. "So, Dean?" He prompted leaning back in his chair seeing that Sam and Jasmine also had disappeared into the kitchen with Bella.
Dean sat on the couch across from Charlie and knew that even if he didn't do chick flick moments he would have to bend it to talk to Charlie. He wasn't sure how to start speaking even though Charlie had opened up the way of conversation for the two of them. "I guess there is no good way to say this, but just come out with it and say it.." He took a deep breath. "I have known Bella since the day she was born. I would like to date your daughter."
The next few moments seemed like an eternity to Dean as he looked at Charlie's poke face. "Well, son, what makes you think that I am going to let you date her?"
He knew that Charlie wasn't going to make this easy on him and it wouldn't matter that he was a fellow hunter and a close family friend. "Because Charlie I think highly of your daughter and I want to have that chance to prove that to her."
Charlie didn't say anything for another moment until he smirked at Dean. "I guess you would be better than having a vamp dating her."
Dean let out a chuckle and shook his head. "I would hope that I am better than a bloodsucker." He leaned back into the couch. "Seriously, Charlie. I think the world of her."
The older man gave a genuine smile and nodded at Dean. "I don't know how the Cullens will take this. They really believe that Bella is Edward's mate." Charlie gave a sigh. "They may put up a fight to keep her so I think you should all watch your backs with them. I don't know how they are going to react, especially Edward. He might not let her go." Charlie's voice was soft and serious. "This could turn into a disaster.
"Any of them try anything and they won't be around long enough to know they screwed up." Dean's voice sounded calm and level, but there was a coldness in his eyes that Charlie had never seen before. Charlie knew that look must have come from being in Hell because even if Dean didn't remember it consciously it would still effect him on the unconscious level. That rougher edge he seemed to have now didn't scare the police chief for he knew that Dean couldn't come out of a place like that and not be changed from when he left. The young man that had died for his brother came back broken in a way along with a harder core. He wasn't afraid of Dean or for the others to be around him, it was actually comforting seeing that his protective streak was still there and accounted for.
Charlie went to day something more when Sam, Jasmine, and Bella reentered the room. "So, are you two done having the father to boyfriend talk over Bella?" Jasmine asked cheerfully.
Bella turned bright red at Jasmine's words and Sam looked like he was close to face palming because of his girlfriend's wicked sense of humor. The younger brunette elbowed her best friend and sent her a glare worthy of something that Dean might send in her direction, but like his it had no effect. Jasmine rested her head against Sam's arm ignoring the mini uproar that her words had caused and instead turned her full attention to Charlie.
There was an actual smirk on Charlie's face in response to Jasmine's question as he looked between his daughter and Dean who both were starting to look nervous. Whatever was making him smirk had Jasmine biting her lip and Sam suppressing his laughter like both of them were watching this like it was entertainment. "I still have one thing that needs to be said to each of you, Bella, Dean." The smirk Charlie had been wearing disappeared with the serious look he was now sending. "First of all, Dean, I think of you like a son and I trust you, but I warn you now… You ever hurt my daughter, I will shoot you." Sam covered his mouth to hide his laughter as Dean paled. "And Bella," Charlie's eyes met his daughter's. "I know you want to be kind to the vampires and such but things could go sour. Be careful."
"I promise, Charlie. I would never hurt Bella." Dean responded to Charlie's words reaffirming to the older male just what Bella meant to him.
Bella blushed at Dean's words and nodded at her father's words. "I know, Dad. I want things to go smoothly and despite how nice they still can snap. Especially with what I have to tell them."
Seeing that Bella and Dean were both taking him seriously, Charlie nodded and gave a smile. "Good, then I will say no more on the subject." The room went into silence, but it wasn't an uncomfortable silence because Jasmine was sitting in Sam's lap in one of the extra chairs while Bella and Dean were on the couch side by side. All five of them froze hearing the doorknob jiggle seconds before the door opened and a loud voice echoed through the entrance and living room.
"For a police chief you would think you would have stronger locks on your front door, old man!" And without a doubt all the occupants of the house knew who it was.
Charlie rolled his eyes in response, "You are the only one that I know of that would pick my locks, Bobby Singer. Most people steer clear of the police chief's house." Both Bella and Jasmine let out a laugh at the banter coming between the two older males making both girls wishing for the olden days with John. They could just imagine some of the insults and ribbing that he would add into his two friends like the three parents would do to each other.
By the time Bobby had reached the living room Jasmine had jumped up from Sam's lap to meet her father and wrapped her arms around him. "Dad!"
Bobby allowed the hug for a moment before brushing Jasmine back with a chuckle. "Alright, alright… Good to see you, too, Little Brat."
Bella moved from her spot beside Dean to greet Bobby. "Hi, Uncle Bobby!" Before he could say anything or move away Bella had leaned forward and kissed Bobby on the cheek.
He swatted at her, but Bella dodged with a bright grin toward Bobby. The older hunter shook his head, "I think you are hanging out too much with my daughter." Charlie, Dean, and Sam all repressed their laughter as Jasmine pouted at her father who acted like he didn't notice her being upset.
"Old Coot.." Jasmine muttered only to get Bobby smacking her lightly on the back of the head in response to her words.
Charlie went to get up from the recliner but Bobby motioned for him to stay as he turned his eyes toward the two Winchesters that he had wanted to see for such a long time. "Hello, boys." The way he said it had both Dean and Sam a little worried like they were afraid that he would bring out the shotgun on them. "You two boys are hard to keep track of. I had some hunter friends of mine keeping an eye on you, but they kept loosing you at different spots." Bobby chuckled to himself.
"So you are the reason I kept noticing that someone was following us?" Dean remarked looking at Bobby with a disbelieving stare. "Crafty old man." Dean smirked at the scowl that crossed the eldest hunter's face. "Should have realized that you would have had people out looking.
"Yes, you should have," Bobby responded with a stern look in both boys direction though the look was directed mostly toward Sam. "I had hunters keeping an eye out for Sam to try and bring him back to me and Jasmine. It was a bonus when the hunters spotted you two together." Bobby sighed, "It was my way of trying to make sure Sam was alright and try to get him to come home after leaving us." Bobby was pressing home in his own way his point to Sam. He turned his eyes on to Dean and moved to squeeze Dean's shoulder for a moment. "It is good to see you, Dean. Never thought I would get that chance again."
Sam hadn't said anything as Bobby had spoke knowing that the older man had been scolding him for leaving in his own way and felt bad that Bobby had sent out people after him. "I am sorry, Bobby. I needed the time on my own, but I thought in the end that it would be better if I just stayed gone." He had the puppy look in his eyes as he gazed at the man that looked like a trucker.
Bobby shook his head giving Sam his own look. "I can understand wanting to be your own for a bit but you should have come back."
The older Winchester watched the conversation between Bobby and Sam before finally speaking up himself. "I figured the same thing. I knew I would never see any of you again." He went silent for a second as Bella took a seat beside him again, quietly giving him comfort just like when she was little. "That is why I am glad that you are here. We can't figure out how I got out. But how did you get here so fast?" Dean asked suddenly suspicious.
The eldest Singer let out a soft chuckle giving his full attention to Dean. "I was actually on my way already when Charlie first called me. Rufus said he would take over the phones." Seeing that Dean had lost the look of suspicious he originally had been wearing Bobby continued speaking to him. Yeah, that is what Charlie was hinting at. That you wanted help figuring out what got you out."
Dean nodded as he saw out of the corner of his eyes that Sam and Jasmine was sharing a chair again. "What else other than a demon could pull me out of Hell?"
"I don't know off hand, Dean, but I am going to keep looking until I find out." Bobby said it with such conviction that anyone would believe him. Charlie had been right, because they all knew that once Bobby started research he wouldn't stop until he found the answer that he was looking for.
Bella had leaned her head against Dean's shoulder listening to Bobby and Charlie now throwing ideas back and forth and books to look through. The sound of their voices were slowly putting her to sleep after the long day and the familiar smell of Dean surrounding her helped her drift away. She had fallen asleep so quickly that the young woman had no idea that Dean had picked her up and carried her up the staircase to her room. Nor did she feel Dean settle her in her bed and pulled the covers over her body before exiting the room to rejoin the others in the living room.
Coming back down the staurs Dean caught the tail end of Bobby scolding Sam a little bit more. "You ever pull something like that on us again I will pull out of the shotgun."
The soft tone of his brother's voice replying, "Yes, sir," as Dean hit the bottom stair made him snicker as he wondered when Bobby would threaten Sam. He caught Charlie's eye as he reentered the living room and nodded in his direction to let him know that everything was alright. The older man nodded back in return to Dean before him and Bobby settled to watch a game on television for the rest of the evening. For the rest of the evening Dean, Sam, and Jasmine spent time talking in the kitchen before retiring to bed to start the day new.
The next day it had been a little less than a week since Bella and Jasmine had started their roadtrip, but it seemed so much longer after meeting the boys. Now, as Bella rolled over to look out the window a bright smile across her face seeing that the sun was actually peeking out of the clouds. This put her in such a good mood that even knowing she would have to talk to Edward wasn't enough to dampen her spirits this early in the morning. She rolled over to see Jasmine sleeping on the air mattress that Charlie keep for just when the Singer girl would sleepover in Bella's room. Another smile crossed Bella's lips as she stretched before making her way down the stairs to start some coffee and breakfast for the occupants of the house.
She could hear movement from the other rooms and chuckled knowing that the smell of coffee was what to wake most hunters she found out years ago. Then Bella started pulling out bacon, stuff to make pancakes, and fruit for something healthy to go with it. She knew it would be a hit for everyone especially for her, Dean, Sam, and Jasmine as they had been surviving on diner food and take out for the last week. Soon Charlie and Bobby had joined her in the kitchen getting their cups of coffee while Bella started frying the bacon humming to herself. The smell of bacon started filtering throughout the house and she chuckled hearing a groan from the kitchen doorway. "Wakey, wakey, Dean."
"Bacon…" Dean's sleepy face lit up as he made his way to the frying pan and tried to make a grab for a slice when Bella smacked his fingers away. "Hey, come in, Bells!" Dean pouted at her and in response she playfully stuck out her tongue making him think thoughts that he shouldn't with Charlie around. There was a twin snort of laughter as Jasmine and Sam came into the kitchen as well watching Bella and Dean taunt and tease each other. The group of hunters enjoyed a wonderful breakfast together and then as Bella was cleaning up the dishes she heard Edward's ringtone signaling she had a text.
Hello, Love.
Bella bit her lip and then let out a sigh to gain control over herself. Hello, Edward. I am home. We need to talk.
Do you want me to come over then?
The young woman looked thoughtful before mentally shaking her head. No, we have a lot of company and I think we should talk before you meet them.
Alright, Love. How about I pick you up? I want to make sure that you are safe.
Bella rolled her eyes and shook her head. "Still trying to control me, huh?" She sent back. If that is what you really want.
Yes, it is what I want. Be there in a bit.
She sent back a text to confirm with him and then wondered into the living room to see most of her family settle in there. "I am going to be speaking with Edward soon. He is coming to pick me up in a moment." Seeing the concerned looks on their faces she sighed. "I will be safe." She remarked before realizing there was one pair of eyes missing in the room. "Wait, where's Dean?"
"Outside, working on the impala," Sam replied and his eyes went wide. "Uh… oh…"
Jasmine huffed and frowned. "Man, I want to video tape this."
"Jasmine-"
"Oh, Dad…" She crossed her arms looking put out.
Outside Dean was just coming from up under the hood of the impala when he realized that there was another car pulling up into the driveway and the type of car it was made him frown. He couldn't help but snicker hearing the radio start playing out 'Bad Company' and he found it quite fitting for the pale male figure stepping out of the Volvo. "Now, the fun begins," He muttered. Stupid vampires. They're the ones that started this whole thing. Dean looked up to see Edward looking directly at him. Shit, forgot. A mind reader…
The front door opened and both males turned to see Bella standing there on the front porch. "Bella, love," The vampire Dean knew immediately as Edward spoke, "How does he know about us?" His voice sounded like he was scolding a naughty child. Not a good first impression on a now angry Winchester.
