New Friends and Eternal Partners
Chapter 2: The Journey Begins
Navi raced through Kokiri Village, dodging past its in habitants, the sure sign of somebody who is very late. Navi had overslept almost two hours, and if sheer embarrassment could change the universe, she could have warped time to wake herself up two hours earlier.
"Of all the days to be forced to wake up early," She mumbled to herself as she passed through a hole in a fence "Me, a guardian fairy! I thought I would spend my whole life in the lantern squad, but the boss just pops in telling me that they needed a new guardian fairy. Strangest thing, I didn't hear there were any new Kokiri that needed one," She ended her train of thought as she entered the home of her new charge(the fifth she had entered in her embarrassed panic), and, with a sigh of relief, noted he was still asleep.
Navi smirked, seeing how the tables had turned, and took a deep breath…
The edges of the world were blurry, obscured in a foreboding darkness. It was night, and it was raining heavily. Link stood before a large drawbridge. The bridge quickly fell, and as soon as it was open, two figures upon a white horse shot out and past him. A girl sitting up front loped back at him, worried. As Link looked at them recede into the distance, he felt a presence behind him. He turned. Upon an enormous black stallion sat a man in black armor, his horse reared, and Link drew his sword.
Oddly, the scene seemed almost liquid, like it wasn't completely sure of itself. If he concentrated harder, he could almost make out more people…
"WAKE UP!" Link nearly fell out of bed when a voice louder than it should reasonably be pulled him from his dreams. As Link, wrapped in his sheets, looked around for the source of the voice he saw a small bluish-white fairy floating above him. He didn't know how, but he knew it was feeling smug
"Ughn?" Link tried to formulate a sentence, but was having trouble having missed the period of between waking up and being truly awake, was having trouble.
Navi crossed her arms confidently(an act Link was unable to see as fairies appeared as winged orbs of light to everyone but other fairies). She was completely in control of the situation. "Do you know how long I've been trying to wake you up? An hour, an entire hour you lazy dope! Do you know how late you are? I was sent by the great Deku Tree himself to summon you an hour ago!" Navi added the last part. She had actually been told by her supervisor, who had most likely been told by his supervisor, and so on. Navi didn't know how many levels were between the big tree and herself, but she was fairly sure she was at the bottom.
Navi examined the boy. She had been told his name was Link, and the he was about ten, maybe eleven years old. He had blonde hair and blue eyes. A bit on the short side. He wore a green tunic, and a floppy pointed hat; both normal Kokiri attire. A bit of an oddity with the village; he did have a guardian fairy. Until now, she mentally added.
"I said, you've been summoned by the great Deku Tree, and I've been given the job of being your guardian fairy."
The gears in Link's head had begun to move when Navi had been looking at him, so he understood that part. "You mean I get a fairy?" He said, voice full of hope. The other Kokiri had always picked on him because he didn't have one.
"Yep, we're partners," Navi responded. "Now, if you don't mind, we should probably get going, because you slept for quite a bit."
Link nodded, prophetic dream unfortunately forgotten.
WOW. I am sorry to anybody who I've made to wait; almost a year. I just kinda lost interest in fan fiction for a while. I read Game of Thrones, I'm reading the Discworld books. But today, on a whim I checked the traffic stats on this, and noticed that people where actually reading it. But its back now. Yay.
