"Is this fine? Too much?" Olivia asked Fitz as she turned, examining herself in the mirror.
He was sitting on the edge of her bed, already dressed and waiting for her t finally deem herself ready for the dinner they were about to have with their mothers. To say she was freaking out was an understatement. She changed her outfit four times, trying to find the correct balance of smart, sweet, and good daughter-in-law material. Finally she decided on a leather trimmed pencil skirt with a simple white blouse.
"I told you the first ten times that you looked fine, so for the eleventh and final time, you look great," Fitz tried to convince his nervous girlfriend.
"How are you not freaking out? It's not every day you meet your partner's parents and you're just sitting there as cool as a cucumber," Olivia huffed, smoothing out her dress with her hands once more.
"I'm not nervous because for one, the way my mother feels about you doesn't matter. And two, if your mother is anything like you, I know exactly how to charm her," he joked, giving her his most charming smile, the one that always melted her on the spot.
"That's my smile, you better not go giving it away, not even to my mother," Olivia pouted, going over to sit on his lap.
"Yes ma'am," he said and kissed her soundly on the lips. "But now I'm going to have to rethink my entire strategy."
"Well now maybe you can see what a big deal this is. I don't introduce just anyone to my mother. I dated Jake for three years before I even mentioned him to her and almost a year after that until I finally let them meet. You are considerably ahead of the curve and I'm flipping out."
"Ok, let me ask you this. If your mother doesn't like me, how is it going to affect our relationship?" Fitz was beginning to feel nervous now, because if her mother didn't like him, she might end the relationship.
"Fitz, I'm not going to breakup with you if she doesn't approve," she reassured him. No, being without him wasn't an option at this point. "But she already has a preconceived notion about you just from the way we got started. She thinks your this bad boy that whisked me away from my husband that is going to hurt me when you've had your fill. I just want her to see how much you love me and how much I love you and that we're in this together."
"I don't see how she wouldn't see how much I love you it's so obvious in the way I look at you. We have nothing to worry about if that's all that's bothering you," he told her, pulling her in closer.
"Well…I know you said that it doesn't matter, but I want your mom to like me. Call it silly, but I don't want her to think I'm not good enough for you. I know that she has high standards," she admitted sheepishly.
"Livi, let me tell you this right now. I will never take my mother's opinion of you into consideration. She could hate you and it wouldn't matter. I know you and your heart and that's all that counts.
"Well that's good to know," she sighed and tucked her head into his neck, "because I don't think I could handle it if I lost you."
"You'll never have to worry about that," he told her sincerely. "Now let's go and get this over with so that I can come back here and have my naughty way with you."
"Mmm...do you promise?" she asked seductively, nipping at his bottom lip before pushing her tongue into his mouth.
"Livi," he groaned against her lips, trying his hardest to be good, "we don't have time right now."
"We always have time," she purred. "We don't have to go all the way, baby, but I need just a little something to take the edge off," she licked at the side of his neck and palmed his hardening cock suggestively. "I'll make it up to you later, I promise."
"You're bad," he growled into her ear, tugging the lobe between his teeth.
"And you love me anyways," she breathed, her breath hitching as his hand inched higher.
"Indeed I do." His palm shifted higher until it completely disappeared under her skirt. He groaned when he reached the garter belt holding up her thigh high stockings. "Can you get any sexier?"
"I knew…" his finger skimmed across her damp panties causing her to whimper, "I knew you'd like the garter belt."
Her fingers went to his zipper, not even bothering with his belt buckle before reaching in a fisting his erection through the hole. He was throbbing in her palm and she gave serious thought to sinking down on the tempting flesh. Had she the time, she would have. But they were expected to be at the restaurant in half an hour so this would have to be quick. She opened her thighs wider as she felt him tug her panties to the side. She wanted him to touch her there so bad, ached for it so much that she felt herself lifting her hips towards his fingers, just needing him to skim her clit so that she could come. Finally he did and her grip on him tightened, clasping him so tight in her fist that she could barely move her hand.
He was groaning low in ear, begging her to come for him, telling her how hot it got him when she was this wet and she moaned that it was only for him. His fingers found her g-spot at the same time her thumb passed over the tip of his shaft, both of them moaning at the feel of the other. She was panting now, her breath coming in fast spurts against his neck as she got closer. He kept going and so did she, their eyes catching and their lips connecting. She pulled as he pushed and soon her back was arching and she was calling his name as she clamped down on his fingers, her own fingers coated in the evidence of his orgasm. She sagged against him, weak from the ever burning passion between them until finally they got up to go clean up before heading out the door.
"Ready?" Fitz asked Olivia.
They were still sitting in his car in the parking lot of the restaurant. They had been sitting for a few minutes, Olivia silently freaking out and deciding that she needed another minute or two. Or three. She didn't know why she was so nervous. She hadn't been this jittery when she met Jake's parents, but for some reason, the opinion Fitz's mother had of her really mattered. Not to even mention her own mother liking Fitz. She just had a gut feeling that things were going to go as well as she hoping.
"Yeah, I'm ready. Let's just get this over with."
Fitz got out and opened Olivia's door for her, shutting it before grabbing her hand and leading her into the building. The closer she got the tighter she grasped his fingers, his hand becoming her lifeline and she was silently praying that he wouldn't let hers go. Almost reading her mind, he gave a little squeeze to assure her that he was right there with her. Opening the door to the eatery, he guided Olivia in and told the hostess their name.
"Your party is already there waiting, it's right this way," the friendly hostess smiled, grabbing their menus before leading them to their table.
Sure enough their mothers were sitting at the table, neither talking to the other which wasn't a good sign. As the women saw their children approaching, they each pasted a smile on their face and stood to greet them. Fitz leaned in to kiss his mother's check while Olivia gave her mother a one armed hug, her hand still firmly placed in Fitz's. They exchanged mothers, Olivia's opting for a handshake while Fitz's mother pulled Olivia in for a hug.
"Mom, this is Fitz. Fitz, this is my mother, Patricia," Olivia introduced.
Fitz did the same, pulling out Olivia's chair before taking a seat himself. There was an awkward pause before the waiter came to take their drink orders. The silence continued as they perused their menus, the tension so thick that Olivia could pick up the knife from the table and cut it.
"Sooooo…."Fitz drew out, trying to break the ice, "Mrs. Pope, have you been here before?"
"Once, with my husband," Patricia replied, a hint of sadness in her tone.
"I'm so sorry for your loss, if I ever lost Livi, I don't think I could…" he stopped at that the horror stricken look on Patricia's face.
"Why would you if bring up such a thing," Patricia asked, tears springing to her eyes.
"Mom, he didn't mean it that way," Olivia tried to placate her mother.
"So Olivia, Fitz tells me you're a doctor as well," Evelyn cut in, obviously trying to change the subject.
"Yes, Fitz and I work in the E.R together," Olivia responded, taking a breadstick from the center of the table.
"Where did you earn your medical degree from? My Fitz here got his from Harvard Medical School," Evelyn bragged.
"Johns Hopkins," Olivia's mother answered for her, her tone just as bragging as Evelyn's.
"Well…my husband was the governor of California from 1990 to 1994, we were hoping that Fitz was going to follow in his path, but we're still just as proud," Evelyn reported, her nose high in the air.
"Only one term?" Patricia smirked.
Evelyn decided to ignore the comment, and went back to interrogating Olivia. "So, Olivia, are you planning on having kids? I know Fitz is."
"I want kids in the future, yes, but I want to finish my residency before I start. Fitz knows that and he wants the same," Olivia replied calmly.
"You're planning on having kids with this man, Olivia? I didn't know that you two were that serious. You just ended your marriage for heaven sakes," Patricia said, a hint of disappointment in her voice.
"Mom, you knew that we were serious. I told you that I love him and that we were all in," Olivia reminded her.
"What did you mean by 'this man'," Evelyn said, not letting go of that little piece of Patricia's statement.
"Mom, let it go," Fitz told her in a hushed tone.
"No. I don't think that she thinks you're good enough for her daughter," Evelyn said hotly.
"Well any man that has no shame in going after a married woman clearly has no integrity and isn't someone that I want for my daughter," Patricia confirmed.
"Well any woman that steps out on her marriage clearly is not trustworthy and is not someone I want for my son," Evelyn quipped, thinking that she was doing something right by defending her son and not seeing that she was just making things worse.
"Are you calling my daughter a whore?" Patricia asked, cutting her eyes in warning.
"Well if the shoe fits," Evelyn replied offhandedly.
Before Patricia could respond, the waiter came. Sensing the tension, he quickly said, "I can see that you guys need a little more time," then awkwardly left.
Patricia opened her mouth, but before she could even utter a syllable, Olivia cut her off. "I love him. I. Love. Him. We are going to be together. End of story."
"Olivia, think about this for a second. You barely even know him and you're already planning a life together. Maybe you guys should slow down, maybe you should take a break," Patricia said, concern etching her tone.
"With all due respect Mrs. Pope, I love your daughter and we're not going to slow down. We are already past the break faze, been there, done that, I am not doing it again. I just want you to know my intentions. Within the next year, I am going to ask Olivia to marry me and if she says yes…"
"I'll always say yes…"
"And when she says yes, I am going to spend the rest of my life making her happy. I'm sorry if you don't like it or me, but I will not, I am not, going away," he said firmly and Olivia leaned in to press her lips against his.
"I must say, Olivia, that I at this point, I cannot give you my blessing. I raised you better than this, and to let yourself be taken by this man, a stripper no less…"
"What? Who told you that Fitz was a stripper?" Olivia cut her mother off.
"A week ago, Jake called to see how I was doing and we got to talking. I really think you should give your marriage another chance," Patricia told her daughter.
Olivia could feel Fitz tense up beside her and knew that he was close to blowing up. "Oh really. While you two were catching up, did he tell you he was planning on stealing from me and that I had to bail him out of his debt?"
"Everyone makes mistakes," Patricia said.
"So it's fine for him to steal from Olivia, but it's not okay for me to work off my debt the honest way?" Fitz asked.
"I hardly call what you do honest," Patricia sneered.
"You will not talk to my son that way," Evelyn's voice raised.
"This is going nowhere. Mother, thank you for lunch," Olivia said, getting up. "Evelyn, it was nice to meet you, perhaps we can do this again," she said sarcastically then turned to leave.
"I hope you two are proud of yourselves," Fitz said and followed after Olivia.
Once they were in the car, Fitz turned to Olivia who he could tell was trying to hold it together. "Baby? Are you okay?"
"I honestly thought that she would like you. I mean, how could she not when she saw how much I love you? I just…"
"It's okay. She'll come around eventually, she just needs more time to adjust to you being with someone else," he tried to allay her worries.
"You're right. I know my mother and she knows that in order to be in my life that she's going to have to accept you," she told him, letting Fitz no that she wasn't going to leave him.
"Now about my mother…I think it's best if I talk to her first and depending on how that goes, then we'll set up another meeting. "
"Okay, if that's what you think is best," she agreed.
"I do. She all but called you a whore and that's not going to fly with me," his jaw line was rigid, something he only did when he was mad.
"Fitz, I know that you were working on a building a relationship with her and I don't want to interfere with that. I'm ok with never having to see her again. Our relationship can be completely separate and that goes the same for my mother," she told him.
"Livi, that's our last resort, not our first choice. I know it'll kill you if your mother isn't at our wedding or isn't there for the birth of children and all the family functions that follow. It'll work out. I know that I will try my hardest and it'll be up to her if she wants to do the same."
"Thank you. She's the only parent I have left and I really want here to be there for me." She gave him a sad and squeezed his hand in hers.
"I'd do anything for you, Livi. Now let's go home because I believe earlier I promised to have my naughty way with you."
"That you did…"
AN: So here's the next chapter. I know, it's been a while, but I'm trying, so leave me a review and tell me what you thought, lol.
