Magnus POV

The sun was grinning down at me as if Helios or Apollo were deliberately trying to cook me alive. I sighed and turn to my friend Ragnor who was lying on the surprisingly still slightly green grass. Ragnors' white hair was stuck to his head with sweat and he looked even greener than usual, which would have been funny if I wasn't in such a bad mood. Sighing I crouched beside him trying to get him to move knowing that if he didn't the Spartans would be all over us like vultures that had found a carcass. I shuddered at the thought.

"Rags please get up you know what day today is right?" without waiting for his reply I carried on "Today just like every year our masters go to that old shack in the middle of the city and guess what? They wage war against US. I mean why would they do that we're magnificent. " Still Ragnor stayed silent but slightly tilted his head so he could peer at Magnus while he was talking. "Well I'm magnificent not to sure about you though..." I said smirking.

"Mmh" Ragnor murmured as he moved his head back to the grass.

"RAGS GET UP" I screamed, I was getting quite annoyed at my friend now. We had been friends since the age of 11 which was 8 years ago. I still remember the day when I arrived at the farm.

-Flashback-

It was one of those rare occasions when it was pouring with rain. But for once I wasn't worrying about my hair or if I got cold because the rain coming down from the sky was hot against my skin. Also because, I was being dragged down a street away from the Lightwood household where I had been used by King Robert as a playmate for his eldest son, Alexander.

I smiled at the thought of Alexander, my little Alec. He was my best friend even though he had blondie, blondie how I hate him. Golden boy has such a big ego. I swear he can't talk without being sarcastic and hash, the qualities he holds so dear. More importantly he stole Alec from me.

I suddenly cried out in pain as I fell onto the hard dirty ground as the Spartan who was 'escorting', more like dragging, me to my new home or at least as much as a home I could have while being a slave and without my best friend Alec to help me through it. Alec Lightwood was the kindest person I have ever meet he has eyes that display his every emotion, the blue of his eyes that I love so much; I will probably never get to see again. Fate has made it this way and there is nothing I can do about it.

I look up to see a door much the same as all the others apart from the huge red V painted on it. Just like the L drawn on the Lightwoods dwelling. I slowly stood up as the guard knocked loudly on the door. The door was opened by a little boy with white hair and what looked like black eyes his skin looked slightly green even in the full light of day. I was tempted to say he looked like a frog when he spoke.

"Ragnor Fell sir would you like me to get the master sir" His voice small as he spoke to the guard, keeping his eyes fixed on the ground.

"Shut up Downworlder scum! Tell the Verlacs' that the slave they were promised by the state has arrived, and that King Robert Lightwood has no use for this thing anymore." He sneered. As the guard roughly grabbed me by the shirt and pushed me towards the door.

I stumbled a bit before falling through the doorway; I twisted my body before I hit the floor. I might have managed to save my face but my arm wasn't so lucky. I fell in such a way that my arm wacked against the doorframe and scraped some of the skin off my arm.

"Stop crying you snivelling worm." Only then did I realise that I was crying. "This is why we Spartans are better than your... kind. We are strong and you are weak." The Guard said with distaste as he glared down at me. And with that he swivelled round on his heel and marched off the way he came.

"Hey, come with me I'll help you clean your Arm." said Ragnor softly. His voice no longer displaying signs of fear.

"He was right I am weak for crying" I said between sniffles.

"No, he's wrong you aren't weak. I believe that who ever cries freely is braver and stronger than those who keep their tears hidden. "Ragnor said seriously. At the end of his little speech he smiled so brightly that I just couldn't help but smile back.

"Thank you." I said still grinning up at Ragnor as he helped me off the floor.

I knew then and there that we would become best friends.

-Flash-forward-

"Hey, Mags. Hello" Ragnor said as he waved a hand in front of my face. "You fell silent for a while I thought you'd been killed by those awful Spartans or even worse the not so 'secret' police." He said with a laugh.

"Wow and don't you look happy just thinking about my fabulous self dying in all manner of horrendous ways. Just think of what you would have done if I had perished at the hand of those oafs."

"I would have congratulated them and celebrate this almighty occasion every day until the day I die." Ragnor said his voice devoid of any emotion.

"Thanks for that awe inspiring show of unconditional love" I said my voice dripping heavily with sarcasm.

"Anytime." Ragnor said ignoring my sarcastic tone.

We both started walking higher up the mountain we had been heading too before the heat had got too much. We had been ordered to gather some herbs by the Downworlder leader of the slaves in the Verlac household. Boy did I hate Camille Belcourt. She was one of those people who liked to beat people down if they were under her leadership. Although, she was a Downworlder she had been kissing the backsides of the Verlac family for years just so she could control all the other slaves in the Verlac household.

My legs started to scream at me to stop and rest before carrying on up the mountain. I sat down on a rock under a huge fruit tree. Ragnor paused and looked at me rising an eyebrow he said "Really Magnus do you have to, we have to get back by nightfall. No time for breaks."

"Says you who layed on the ground for a good half an hour" I mumbled. Pulling myself up and off the rock. "Let's go" And with that we started off again.

Not noticing that with each step we took it was getting darker and darker.

We gathered some herbs and placed them into the bags we carried at our sides in comfortable silence. Before Ragnor broke it "Magnus"

"Yep"

"It's nearly dark"

"What it can't be" I exclaimed shocked.

"We need to go now before we get lost. You know as well as I do that there will be no lights in Sparta once it is dark to guide our way." I nodded in agreement as we quickly started to hurry down the mountain trying not to trip and fall.

The Spartans have a rule that no lights are to be used at night unless you are a guard on duty up on the entrance to the mountain passes in and out of the Laconia. The Spartan leaders say it's to harden their warriors and to show them they should have no fear of the dark, also it gets the Spartans used to having to 'see' when it's dark.

"Magnus I can hardly see, take my hand so we don't get separated." Ragnor shouted as he grabbed my hand. I squeezed his hand tightly as I took in my surroundings, well as much as I could see. I could just about make out the outline of the trees dotted around the mountainside, and the bushes were big black blobs in the dark. We were lost and we knew it.

Suddenly, I felt someone yank me away from Ragnors grip and pull me up to their chest. I now stood with my back to someone who was holding a knife to my throat. I could see the Angelic rune on the blade, as it shone in the darkness. Shadowhunter.

"Any last words Downworlder" I froze.

Alexander.

My little Alec.

This is how I'm going to die.

At least I'm going to die wrapped in his arms. I thought as I waited for the knife to do its damage.

AN. Thank you for read. Please Review it really would make my day. Until the next time BYE XD
